"Nom Wah Tu — the newest, full-service sibling in the Chinatown Nom Wah empire — suddenly shut its doors after just about six months on the Lower East Side. A representative for the restaurants confirmed that it closed after Saturday’s service but declined to give a reason. The restaurant from owner Wilson Tang, located at 22 Orchard St. between Hester and Canal streets, starting serving chef Jonathan Wu’s modern Chinese American fare in September 2017, essentially inventive takes on dim sum dishes like shrimp dumplings with blood orange-kefir lime oil and duck fried rice with Brussels sprouts. It was the replacement for less than four-year-old (but critically-acclaimed) Fung Tu after the restaurateurs decided it needed “a much larger change.”" - Serena Dai

This is a review of the even by Tasting Collective that we attended. It was a 9 course Chinese-Style New Year Feast. This spot used to be another Chinese restaurant, Fung Tu. The restaurant was reborn as Nom Wah Tu in September of 2017, with new menu but with the same people. If you are wondering, yes, it is a part of Nom Wah empire, partner with Nom Wah Tea Parlor. Nom Wah Tu is more casual, providing comfortable atmosphere, with a goal to become a popular “local bar” for the area. The inside is a bit on the small side, rather narrow and long. They have two communal tables and a few booth seating. The most interesting thing they had (in my opinion) was the projector on the ceiling! They had old Chinese movie with Jet Li playing on the back wall (without any sound) during our event. I think they play movies often there. At the event, we were able to try their Shaved Broccoli & Carrot Salad, Arctic Char Crudo, Pork Soup Dumplings, Fried Shiitake Mushrooms Caps, Taiwanese Scallion Pancake Wraps, Egg Drop Soup, Wok Fired Rice Cakes, Sauteed Porgy, and Oolong Panna Cotta. They were all very tasty, especially the dumpling, and panna cotta was great too. It was a nice event, we enjoyed all the food, made high quality and tasty. The portion was small, but at the end, we were pleasantly full and satisfied. The servers were efficient and did nice job around the fully booked space. It was a fun way to start off the new year, and a great first Tasting Collective event of the year as well.

Food was incredible. Drinks were decent, but bartender was slower than a herd of wild turtles. Food came out much faster than drinks, but I still give 5 stars, because food was so good, and everyone was very friendly. We bought the kitchen a beer, and you should, too ;-)

Okay place, but very loud. Somehow the interior echos the conversations. Only had a cocktail which was pretty watered down.
