15 Outstanding Chinese Restaurants in the East Bay

"As its name suggests, Noodles Fresh specializes in Chinese noodles. The restaurant’s main point of distinction is that it doesn’t have any one regional focus, but instead seeks to introduce diners to a wide array of highly specific noodle dishes: Guilin beef tendon soup with rice noodles, Taiwanese beef noodle soup, and Yunnan “over the bridge” noodles. It’s one of the only Bay Area restaurants where you’ll find Jiangxi-style rice noodles — toothsome and delicious, especially when served stir-fried with flank steak, peppers, and a fiery chile sauce. The restaurant has a second location in downtown Berkeley." - Dianne de Guzman, Momo Chang, Eater Staff

Winter 2023: The Best Dishes Eater San Francisco Editors Ate This Week - Eater SF

"While my Jiangxi noodle salad was quite delicious, with its seafood-flavored chile sauce, my heart belongs to a good Hainan chicken rice plate — especially if all the separate components are done well. To wit, the chicken was delicately poached, retaining a nice texture and not verging into the overdone territory. The rice was a lovely golden hue, imbued with the taste of the chicken broth, but without any slick oiliness. And the ginger dipping sauce was done in my favorite style, which is to say slightly too salty, ideal for bringing some depth to the combination of rice and poached chicken. It’s just a pure comfort dish, even if it’s not one I grew up with, in a soothing combo of rice, chicken, and sauce that makes rainy weather like this feel less dreary." - Paolo Bicchieri

I love the service and the chill vibe of the place. The appetizers are great, but the dishes can be a little watery, making the noodles taste bland. I will probably go again and focus on the appetizers!

Google
Really tasty noodles and friendly staff! We got the scallion pancakes and salt and pepper chicken wings for appetizers. The scallion pancakes were odd and not a lot of scallions. The noodle soups were all incredibly tasty and the portion sizes were great! I got the beef noodle soup which had really tender pieces of beef and long hand pulled noodles. My bf ordered the noodle salad which wasn’t what we expected - they provided us with noodles and vegetables on the side and some soy sauce and chili paste to drizzle on top. My friend ordered the hot and sour noodle soup which was very flavorful. The chicken wing were very moist and crispy - I wish they came with a sauce on the side. Overall, great reliable neighborhood Chinese restaurant and will definitely come back when we are in the area!

Google
Great place for authentic Chinese cuisine. I especially love their slow cooked pork belly! Highly recommend the beef noodle soup as well. Warms you up, especially during this rainy season.

Google
Came here for dinner with my parents. Didn't really know what to expect from this place given the decor is very East meets West. How often do you find classic Chinese tea sitting next to bottles of red wine? After getting seated we very quickly found out that despite the appearance, this place serve some traditional Chinese noodle dishes. My parents and I all ordered a different noodle soup with a salted duck on the side. All of our broth was very flavorful and everything in it cooked perfectly. The owners were also very friendly and came around multiple times to make sure our meal was good! All in all, loved everything we had, and I would love to come back and try some of their other dishes.

Google
Taiwanese beef noodle soup is ok. Xinjiang lamb soup is beyond our expectation. Not recommended for the Canton seafood stir-fly noodles, not authentic at all. Clean and easy parking.

Google
Dishes here are excellent and of good size. Each noodle dish is very different than the others trying to highlight different regional styles of China. They also have good tea at really reasonable prices. It was packed when we stopped in for dinner and staff was a little frantic, but did really well overall. Highly recommended.

Google
Delicious noodle soup, noodle and rice dishes and appetizers. The salt and pepper wings were hot and crunchy, though I would have liked a little more seasoning. Dumplings were hot and crispy. The broth in my seafood noodle soup was delicious and there were lots of prawns and pieces of fish. Only downside was the rice vermicelli. I would have preferred a better rice noodles, but it was fine. Overall a good meal. Friendly, prompt service. Worth going back.

Google
Tried the Guilin beef noodles, and while they were alright, not the best, it's a rare find. My partner opted for the Hainan chicken curry noodle, which turned out to be more of a Thai curry with noodles instead of rice. Not exactly what we were expecting, but the Guilin beef brought a unique touch, considering the limited noodle shop options around.

Yelp
I was cravng their vegan noodle soup - it is the tastiest around , better than any veggie pho !! Shanghai double happiness: special ramen wheat noodles w/gluten puff, day lily, woodear , shitake, carrot & scallion: so yummy !! Usually packaged to go w/ soup separate from noodles so they don't get mushy plus bonus fried peanuts !! Cheerful quick service, offer tea or water while waiting for takeout !! Pleasant eclectic artwork on the walls, spacious dining room !!& So many vegan selections- all so good !!!

Yelp
Authentic, welcoming atmosphere, stellar food and quick service. Dined in with my best friend and her baby on a cloudy Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was mostly full, including a massive group celebrating a birthday. The server was a bit frazzled but still took excellent care of us. We both ordered noodle soup and woah these bowls are massive. It fed me for 2 more days! I don't spend much time in El Cerrito anymore, but this place is a must for when I return.

Yelp
I haven't had the chance to dine in, but the two times we have had takeout, the food has been good. Also, I noticed the last time I was in the store, they had the football game on. That's not the only reason I would return, but it doesn't hurt. BB

Yelp
Came for weeknight dinner and the space was pretty empty. They have a little parking lot which makes visiting super convenient. The restaurant itself is bright and spacious which is nice. Service is also very prompt and nice. I ordered scallion pancakes, and the hk bbq pork bowl as well as a Thai iced tea. Thai iced tea was good! Hard to mess that up lol Scallion pancakes were okay. The fry on it was perfect, crispy and flaky. Just not a lot of scallion flavor. Hk bbq pork bowl was okay as well. The soup didn't have much flavor besides just being salty. Bbq pork had some tender bits and not so tender bits. I will say serving sizes are huge, so it's really worth the money. My sister ordered the jiangxi spicy noodles, and a few of the noodles were super hard and uncooked :c Overall, it's okay! Id say their dishes are hit or miss. Someone else in my group ordered the yunnan rice noodles and she really enjoyed that.

Yelp
Food: 2 stars Service: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars We came here with high hopes based on reviews. What a big disappointment, the food was! we ordered: spring rolls - 3 little rolls with a mushy filling of cabbage and a little bit of carrot. the tiny bit of garnish - pickled cabbage and julienned carrots - was tastier than the spring rolls Scallion pancake (if you can call it that!!) The ultra thin, flat, deep fried greasy thing they served was an insult to scallion pancakes! it has a few tiny flakes of green onion in it (see picture). Do not order this! they should be ashamed of themselves for serving that! Yangzhou stir-fry (Combo fried rice) was ok. it had 3 pieces of shrimp and some chicken. The dish was bland just like the other dishes above. we had to smother it in chili sauce to get any flavor infused in it. West Lake Dong Po pork belly - do not expect a dish as described in the menu (ginger and soy sauce braised pork belly). The sauce was basically a watered down version of the americanized, red sweet and sour pork flavoring. overall it was very disappointing. I had to apologies to my guest for the quality of food. We will not be coming back.

Yelp
Always good to visit here for lunchtime! I tried their curry noodles for the first time per my coworker's recommendation. It was delicious. It's one of those menus that can't go wrong if you give it a try. Mildly sweet and creamy. Chicken and vegetables were clean and fresh. I like that they added rice noodles, which is easy to slurp. The portion size is always generous - enough for two lunches if you are a small lunch eater.

Yelp
MENU OF DELICIOUS "GREATEST HITS" FROM MANY REGIONS OF CHINA! First, this is a family-owned [Chinese wife & Caucasian husband], restaurant, and they very clearly *care* about both their guests and the quality of the food they serve, which is both authentic and delicious. The menu consists of "greatest hits" from many different regions of China, and yet the chef seems to have mastered them all, despite the enormous range of cooking techniques, ingredients, and spices involved. Bravo, Chef! In stark contrast to most authentic Chinese restaurants, here the lighting and ambience are very relaxing and pleasant---no harsh, bright-white, operating-room LEDs here! :-) When I complimented the owner on this point, she instantly beamed and told me that she herself had designed every aspect of the restaurant, including the warm lighting! She was genuinely friendly and welcoming from the moment we entered. I should also note that the restaurant is impeccably clean, again in stark contract to many other authentic Chinese restaurants. TOP DISHES FROM TONIGHT'S DINNER: 1) Cold spicy cabbage--balanced, rich, mildly spicy sauce on fresh and crunchy cabbage. Great! 2) Cold Nanjing salted duck, which is *very* hard to find! No beauty to look at, but just shut your eyes and you will be rewarded with a uniquely delicious new take on duck! 3) Xinjiang lamb bowl: wonderfully light, delicate, and pure-flavoured broth with a hint of sweetness from the goji berries. 4) Xinjiang cumin lamb: unusually large pieces of lamb (not overcooked!) instead of the usual thin slices, with intense and delicious spicing. Not spicy, just mega-flavourful! I can't wait to go back and explore many other dishes from this enormously varied and intriguing menu. P.S. My wife said that her *brown* rice was delicious, but I forgot to try it, as I was very happy with the excellent white rice.

Yelp
I had a Szechuan noodle soup. Sure, spicy, but pretty much flavor-free. White chicken wasn't much better. The saffron rice was good. Lots of choices out there sadly this won't be one of them.

Yelp
Food is great. Service is nonexistent. I came on a Friday evening. The interior is well-decorated and it wasn't too busy. Tables were clean but all dirty dishes were stacked at the countertop. We were seated immediately and brought waters. That was the most of the friendly service. I got the Taiwan beef noodle soup and my friend got the Guilin beef tendon stew. To share, we got the spicy chao shou dumpling. These gave me more wonton vibes than dumplings. Ironically, the appetizer came last and the noodle dishes came first. Not a big deal. I really liked the Taiwan beef noodle soup. Good amount of tender beef and noodles. Soup was hearty. It's truly a comfort meal. My friend who got the beef tendon stew said it was also good but could've used a little more flavor/kick. The dumplings were overpriced and just ok. We re-purposed the chili oil it came in to add some spice to the noodles. The only times we interacted with our server was taking an order, dropping off the food and multiple attempts to wave down for the check. There were maybe only 4-5 other tables seated. Water was never refilled. My ?? moment was the fact that there were only 3 of us in the party and the guy put all the dishes at the end of the table and told me to push each dish towards the respective person. That was a bit odd. Overall, the noodles were good and well-priced. I would come back whenever I'm craving a comfort noodle soup dish.

Yelp
Holy hearty beef and noodles!!!! I got the stir fry beef flank dish to go, I think it's the Jiang Xi? I didn't know what to expect tbh but when I saw the noodles come outta the takeout bag I KNEW it was gonna be good. They were a pretty chocolate brown and the beef to noodle ratio was actually perfect. The mixed veggies were cooked to perfection and I scarfed it downnnnn. My spouse did the ordering and picking up and said the service was great, there's big ceilings inside if you wanna sit and enjoy tea. This was my first time getting this and it won't be my last! Spouse got the Dan Dan Noodz and said it was good but he pines for a particular place back home in Philly lol My dish did have a lot of chilis in it which I LOVED but if you're sensitive, ask them to hold or go light. Cuz they went heavy. They also seemed really slow so you should place an order if you're hungry!

Yelp
Was craving noodles so I got take out from noodles fresh. They have a lot of variety on the menu from sweet to savory noodles, rice dishes, and appetizers. I tried to braised pork belly and two different noodle dishes. The braised pork belly was sweet and gingery, very juicy and yummy! I also thought the black bean noodles were flavorful and savory, loved the thick udon noodles it came with! The stir fried noodles were good but we asked for spicy and it didn't taste spicy at all. Still was jam packed with meat and veggies. Final note, the chili oil was super smoky and fragrant, again not spicy but went well with everything!

Yelp
I walked in on a Thursday night about 5pm with my mother. There were no patrons present. Waitress immediately greeted us and brought out water to our liking, with or without ice. I ordered Hong Kong Pork with brown rice. My mother ordered the Shanghai Scallion noodle plate. The food took about 15 minutes to come out, which i assume is due to it being prepared fresh to order. While waiting we enjoyed the jazz playing softly and the colorful art work on the walls. Food arrived hot and presented nicely. While we enjoyed the great food the restaurant slowly filled with customers and also had a few to go orders picked up. The pork plate was flavorful. Pork was seasoned well and was tender. Brown rice was perfect, i have yet to master the technique at home. Tofu plate was my favorite of the evening. The noodles are out of this world. Very unique texture and taste. Also they did not feel heavy in the gut as some pastas have a tendency to feel to me. Price point was extremely reasonable and the portions were not light. I plan on returning soon and trying another selection or 2 from the menu.

Yelp
Solid lunch spot. Starred items qualify for the lunch special which is a great deal. The jiangxi noodle salad was good. Thankfully not really a salad but a hot dish. I swapped out the noodles for the ramen kind since I was skeptical about the GF one. I would've liked more chicken as it was extremely noodle heavy. I appreciated the little containers of soy sauce and chili sauce to customize the flavor but it creates a lot of plastic waste which is terrible for the environment. Ambiance feels a bit blah, like it's missing something. Service was friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
Great Service ! Very light meals Karina is very kind and knowledgeable I would recommend this place.

Wallace Y.

Yelp
A wide variety of noodle dishes, carefully plated, well prepared complex sauces, and delicious. Excellent service and reasonable prices.
google avatar

Yelp
Xinjiang lamb bowl was flavorless and daikon was mushy. No condiments on table to season it. Sweet & sour chicken came out lukewarm and some of the chicken pieces were tough and overcooked. Sichuan Chao Shou dumpling was pretty good and piping hot. Only two servers and they were running everywhere so I think they must have been understaffed. A little pricey for the quality of food.

Yelp
4.8! Ambience was pleasant and the server was very nice and helpful. We ordered Taiwan Beef noodle soup, scallion pancakes, beef tendon stew, and all were good. We came around 4pm so place was practically empty. Although we had a hard time looking for parking. We had to drive around the block then slowly drove by the front and saw the small entryway for the parking to the back of the building. Will be coming back! PS. They have gluten free options!

Yelp
This has got to be one of the best chinese restaurants in the Richmond/El Cerrito area! For starters the inside is beautifully designed and very spacious. The atmosphere is very calm and relaxing which makes for a great dining experience! The menu is pretty big so deciding between dishes can be pretty hard! I have come here a few times and can personally say the West-Lake Dongpo pork belly rice plate is amazing! The Hunan hot & sour is also pretty good and very filling! Also pictured is the scallion pancake(in the back), which is a nice appetizer to pair with many dishes! The service is decent, the staff will check in frequently and ensure everything is going alright. The restaurant is not in the best area but without a doubt worth a try if in the area!

Yelp
This place is dope! Just look at this Taiwan Noodle dish. Ramen noodles and a light and deeply, beefy flavored broth with an almost consommé clarity. There may be star anise in the broth and the aromatic vegetables (mirepoix) may have been caramelized somewhat. I like how it was delivered because it was easy to make sure the soup was balanced and well presented in one container were the noodles topped with perfectly cooked, truly baby, baby, bok choy, and very tasty, finely diced pickled vegetables resting on the top. In the second container was the soup broth with the beef. Very tender and delicious. I like it so much. I ordered it less than two weeks later for delivery again. Just as delicious as the first time! Can't wait to get more food from here.

Yelp
Coming here was not the initial plan but because New Dumpling House didn't have indoor dining due to low staffing, we were happy that Noodles Fresh was nearby to fill our hungry tummies. Inside was surprisingly spacious and seemed like a new establishment. Menu is pretty extensive and a little hard to read, but it did have great info about the food. Certified Green Business. No MSG. Very accommodating to dietary restrictions (vegan, gluten-free). They use corn oil and filtered water. We chose the following: -Taiwan Beef: comforting noodle soup, the beef was super tender and the broth was tasty. Only wish the noodles were hand-pulled. Probably one of their most popular dishes. -Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings: comes with 5 crispy flavorful portions -Sichuan Chau Shou dumplings: house-made pork, shrimp, fish, eggs and ginger in a flavorful savory tangy spicy sauce. Get this! -Garlic Prawns: cooked well with fresh garlic, snow peas, bell peppers and onions. -Green Tea: served in a fancy teapot and was pretty strong. Service was a little off in the beginning but our server explained she was training someone new. Food came out promptly and we enjoyed our meal. Although it was not that crowded when we went for a late lunch, I'm sure it gets crowded during peak hours. It was nice dining in a higher quality, MSG-free Chinese restaurant - I'd love to try one of my other favorites, Hainan chicken rice plate next time!

A N.

Yelp
Delicious authentic food. Their mapo tofu is incredible. Great service. I have been going here for years, and highly recommend.

Yelp
First of all, they have a huge space and accommodated 15 of us! The staff was super friendly and food came out fast. I loved the food I ordered, it was flavorful and the noodles were super bouncy! It's a good dish on a hot day out.

Barbara C.

Yelp
I go to their original location in El Cerrito. Tasty food prepared fresh. My favorite is Shanghai Double Happiness. The owners are very kind. If you are interested in Chinese tea they have a lovely selection of tea cups and accessories and an area for drinking tea apart from the dining area.

Yelp
Came here for dinner a while back for dinner with my sister. We arrived and parked in the back (there was plenty of parking available - the parking lot in the back of the restaurant was convenient considering that it is along San Pablo Ave., which is typically busy with limited street parking. When we entered the restaurant, it was nice to see that the place was spacious and clean. Lighting was a bit dim, but we were seated pretty fast. I was excited to try the Dandan noodles and Taiwan Beef Soup since they are some of my favorite dishes (also because the person I used to get this homemade from moved out of California, so I was looking for a nearby place to find the dishes instead of traveling over 30 minutes to get some), and my sister also threw in some dumplings to try. The Dandan noodles weren't as spicy as I thought they would be; it was quite underwhelming to be honest (I'd say a 3/5 stars at best). The beef noodle soup was light and brothy, but had a bland flavor to it compared to the homemade ones I loved or other restaurants I've had it at (also 3/5 stars). Dumplings were pretty good - I think it was made well and had a good texture (3.5/5). I was kind of sad since that the food was just okay, especially after seeing so many good ratings. Dishes here are a bit more pricier than other places. I wouldn't say this is my go to place, but if someone offered to take me out and pay for dinner here, I wouldn't contest it.
google avatar

Bonnie S.

Yelp
We came back twice within a few days - this place got us hooked! Admittedly we were not so sure of the authenticity as there is a variety of noodles from different regions on the menu but so glad we are wrong. The dishes are not only delicious and reasonably priced but also pretty authentic. The prices we're also reasonable and portions are healthy. We enjoyed everything we've tried on our two visits: Green onion pancakes - crispy and yummy, thinner Edamame- the spices made this so delicious Spicy wontons - solid dish Hunan sour and spicy noodles - strikes the right balance, great soup Dan Dan noodles - so much noodles and great sauce Sichuan spicy fish soup noodles - it's a fun twist of the classic poached dish dish Would definitely come back for more noodles!

Yelp
GLUTEN FREE noodle and rice options! Noting this first because it's truly rare to find genuine gluten free food at a Chinese restaurant. All of the noodle soup bowls are huge and delicious. If you have a big appetite, this is for you! Otherwise, plan to share. Hainan chicken rice plate is the favorite of the rice options. The chicken is consistently fresh and the Hainan flavored rice tastes amazing. You can also order Hainan flavored rice separately for $2.75. Canton Seafood Stir-fry is the star of the noodle plates. If you love seafood, the shrimp, fish, and squid are always fresh.
google avatar

Emmeline W.

Yelp
Decent Chinese fare. I didn't think much from the exterior, but Noodles Fresh is a solid spot to get your Canto fix. So glad this is walking distance from my new apartment! For COVID safety purposes, staff/patrons must wear masks, and tables are sanitized thoroughly. The bordering road has plenty of street parking. No wait on a Saturday afternoon, and service was quick + courteous. We had a handful of small dishes to share. For the most part, the seasoning's on the lighter end-- not bland by any means, but definitely not as heavy as most Chinese spots. Some favorites: Canton Seafood Bowl, Vegetarian Goose, and Vegetarian Mapo Tofu. Strangely, much better than their Berkeley location for sure. My immigrant parents gave the El Cerrito Noodles Fresh the Taiwanese stamp of approval :-)

Christopher L.

Yelp
Only 2 good dishes at this restaurant. Their beef noodle soup and their hainan chicken. Very friendly establishment and when we want either of those dishes we're very happy to go, but just a heads up.
google avatar

Jun J.

Yelp
Such a great place for rice noodles! My favorite is their guilin rice noodles, I love the soft but still chewy noodles, and generous portion of beef in the Guilin style noodles, and the sauce really hits the spot! Service is really nice and fast too.

Yelp
Food - 3 Service - 4 Value - 3 This place is a favorite for some of my family who live in East Bay, but I was a little underwhelmed with it -- it was hard for me to find something on the menu that appealed to me. I ended up getting a noodle dish with some shrimp and it was just so-so to me. The food was certainly fresh but the flavor just felt lacking. I'm sure this is just a personal preference though as the place was packed and most of my family raves about this place.

Vicky B.

Yelp
Been twice since hearing a friends high praises and the noodles are fresh, plentiful and affordable. Huge menu to choose from.

Sandra D.

Yelp
Our food was fabulous. I had the won ton soup (huge, by the way, got take home leftovers) and my friend had a beef dish with rice. All were fresh, lovingly made, flavorful. And I must say very reasonable prices. Our only complaint is that it seems they could use more than one server. Yes, it took a long time for things to come to the table because she was busy. However we loved it all and will be back. We can't wait to try other items on the menu!

Yelp
We decided to order out for dinner last night and support someplace local. Noodles Fresh came up on Yelp pretty quickly as it was both conveniently close and fairly highly rated on Yelp. Plus we noticed they were right next to our favorite dumpling place, so we decided to head over to give them a try. We placed an order over the phone, and had no issues communicating our order. The person over the phone was polite, efficient, and let us know that our order would be ready in 15mins. When we headed over, we discovered that Noodles Fresh has their own spacious parking lot, which you enter in from San Pablo. Plus, there's a back entrance from their parking lot which saves time from having to walk all the way around to the front of the establishment. While waiting for our meal, we noticed the beautiful wall of various porcelain cups, utensils, and clay tea sets that they have displayed and for sale along the wall. We also noticed a private dining area they have enclosed in a separate room that you could reserve for larger parties. We really loved the setup inside and thought it would definitely be a great place to host larger events/dinners in the future. We wound up buying a few of the porcelain cups on the wall for $10 ea, and ordered the Jiangxi stir-fry, Sichuan Dan-Dan, and the five-flavored tofu pork. In addition, we noticed they gave us a complimentary container of salted, roasted peanuts to take home, which turned out to be delicious and was quite the hit at dinner. As for the rest of the food, while everything was definitely fresh, and we loved the consistency and texture of the noodles, all the dishes we ordered seemed to be rather lacking in the flavor department. Everything had a very muted and toned down flavor profile, and nothing really wowed us. Not sure if this was because we ordered everything mild, but I would have thought that only pertained to the spiciness level, not the overall flavor of the dishes. Prices were reasonable given the times, and we did love the interior decor. Might come back in the future to try some different dishes.

George A.

Yelp
The place really went downhill. This used to be my go to place. Food used to be great and the owners came to speak with us. Great selection of food. This time the food was worse than mediocre. Served lukewarm, no flavor, sauce came in a plastic container. Really too bad. This was a wonderful neighborhood place which I will not visit again.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is not that great it lacks flavor and the service wasn't great, we're the only ones in the restaurant and they hardly come to check if we needs water or anything else I had to walk to the counter to get hot sauce and to ask for water. The ambience is good not bad.

Yelp
We tried this place for the first time recently and liked it overall. We tried the: - Sichuan Dan Dan Noodle: This one was our favorite dish. It is really flavorful and spicy! The noodles for this are also quite chewy and QQ, which makes for the perfect noodle dish! - Chongqing Beef Tendon: We also really liked this dish. It is mala and a little bit vinegary as well. It's a very refreshing cold dish, and we will definitely order it again next time. - BBQ Pork: This one didn't totally meet our expectations because some pieces were kind of dry and hard to chew. Not the best BBQ Pork... - Jianxi Stir Fry: The noodles for this dish were not my favorite because they're not as QQ as the Dan Dan Noodle. Next time if I want to order this again, personally I would ask the restaurant if it's possible to get this dish with the Dan Dan Noodles instead. The default noodles for this are a little more soggy. However, the flavor is quite good and actually my favorite part of this dish was the beef! They use good quality meat for this dish and there was a good amount of it too! - Complimentary peanuts: They gave us peanuts with our order which was really nice of them! And they were really good roasted peanuts - we finished them all! All in all, it was a good experience. We had some really good dishes and will definitely come back to try some more!

Yelp
A family favorite; we order take out over the phone since we are still not dining indoors. It's a little hit and miss depending on who answers the phone, whether they can easily accommodate our menu change details and how they charge it for us. But the food is always good. The peanuts they throw in are a highlight.

Yelp
The day is Saturday July 27, 2024, I placed my order as I've always done in the past, and sat down in the back near the kitchen next to the bathroom. I hear the toilet flushing, and at the same time, the door opens and one of the cooks, walk out, wearing in a baseball cap and talking on the phone without washing his hands, and wearing no gloves!! He then walks into the kitchen and starts to cook! This guy did not have time to wash his hands when I heard that toilet flush and the door open at the same time, and talking on the phone! But that's not all! Another cook, short man, was constantly rubbing his face, nose and mouth, and hair in a circular motion with the palm of his hands! And he's cooking! These guys are chopping up vegetables, chicken, beef, and doing so with unwashed hands! They stick their hands in a bowl a peanuts to mix the salt and the peanuts together with unwashed and gloveless hands! This would explain why I have gotten sick in the past and did not know it! Now I know why! This is just plain nasty! And I will not be going back ever again! I don't want dead skin, bodily fluids and hair in my food! And goodness knows whatever else that is under their fingernails, especially when coming from the bathroom! An outbreak of shigella occurred at the Mariscos San Juan Restaurant on 4th Street in San Jose, California, the Santa Clara County Public Health Department said. Individuals started to report symptoms including fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea last Saturday, health officials said. Currently, at least 24 of those sickened have been diagnosed with shigella, according to the health department. The restaurant was closed on Sunday and health department officials are asking anyone who has eaten at the restaurant and developed symptoms, including fever or sudden onset of diarrhea, to see a doctor immediately. No specific source of contamination has been identified, according to the health department. Shigella is fecal matter under the fingernails, on hands and fingers,, which causes serious bacterial infection. This is why no restaurant should be allowed to prepare and cook food for customers, without washing their hands and wearing gloves at any time! By the way, the one star is for the cashier being nice! Everything else failed!

Yelp
I been wanting to check this place for a while now. I am glad they are open for indoor dining. Thus far the the most tender beef noodle soup I have had in the east bay. That is what I would recommend getting here. I had a couple of other things like the scallion pancake, the Shanghai noodle and spring roll. They were okay. I would return here again to try other things. They are nice and friendly. Lots of seating and also a tea house.

Yelp
What a gem of a place! Service was quick, food was plentiful and fresh tasting. My husband and my daughter loved their dishes too. The noodles are light and they give you so much food there is always extra to take home. Parking in the back, ambiance is good - we went at lunch time so it was quieter but lots of Asian plates and utensils to buy that look authentic. Stop by if you're in the area!

Yelp
Yummmy! Ended up here after finding out that the restaurant we originally wanted to was takeout only. Can't wait to go back to this spot and try other dishes on their menu! Got the Sichuan chili fish noodle soup, braised pork belly rice dish, chicken wings, hainan chicken rice and pork fried dumplings! All amazing flavors and beautifully presented. The place is also super cute inside. Please try this place out!

Yelp
This place doesn't look like much from the outside, or, for that matter, inside, being functional, but not much more. But the food, at least what we tried, is pretty good. One of us had a noodle dish. The noodles had a great texture, and the fish and chicken in the soup were great, but the broth was a bit bland. I had the sweet and sour chicken plate and it was very good. Of course, it's good old Chinese American food, but the chicken was cooked well, and the sauce was on point. I ate up every scrap of it. We'll be back to try other dishes.

Yelp
Jiangxi stir fry$11.95 By far my most favorite dish here, noddle is fresh and the meat is tender. If you come here you must try it is simply delicious. I like to add chili to it. Salt & pepper chicken wings $7.95 They are delicately fried with a slight hint of pepper and salt. The batter is light and will not weigh you down. Its a great option for those picky eaters and just as a starter. Red fermented tea exquisite and delicious. The owner he is very knowable and passionate about teas. Tres 14 16 Pros: Jiangxi stir fry Red fermented tea Knowledge of teas Ambiance Fish soup Cons: Parking situation Service can be a hit or miss at times

Yelp
This place is great. The portions are really generous for a Chinese place. The price per person is roughly $12 which isn't too bad! I ordered the Beijing black bean noodles and had enough for to go! My boyfriend got the Hainan Chicken rice plate and the South Asian chicken noodle soup. I had a small bowl of his soup and loved it. I would get that on a cold rainy day. Their hot chili sauce is really good. Super toasty and has a great kick for those who like spice.

Yelp
We tried Noodles Fresh during pre-COVID times but haven't been back till this week. Glad to know the restaurant is still around with indoor dining and the food is still delicious. Even more surprising is that with cost of everything going up their prices are still very reasonable considering the generous portion and quality of food. The menu is an electic mix of Chinese cuisine from different regions (Cantonese, Northern China, Yunnan, Hunan, etc). This time around we had the Double Happiness Wheat Gluten Puff and Garlic Cucumbers for appetizers, and Beijing Black Bean Sauce noodles(zhazhiangmien), and Hunan lamb for our entrees. The Double Happiness was a vegetarian delight, with wheat gluten puff that is marinated well with lots of umami, and there were also daylilies, mushrooms, carrots and peanuts. The garlic cucumber has a nice zest, but I had to sprinkle a bit more salt cuz it was more vinegary than salty, and it could use more garlic. The Black Bean Sauce noodles were yummy, and the Hunan Lamb(one of the chef specialties) was spicy but not too hot and very tasty. Noodles Fresh has their own parking in the back, but street parking in front was not a problem. The interior has a upscale vibe with plush and comfortable furniture(tables and booths), and there is a tea lounge in the back where you can tried their high quality teas. Service was attentive. We were glad to have come back to dine at Noodle Fresh.

Yelp
Quick Summary: - Best tasting fried rice (my type of fried rice) - Friendly staff - A lovely tea experience - Large portions, entered hungry, left near 100% full If there is such a thing, I would like to nominate this restaurant as the best restaurant I've went to in 2019. I still have a month to go until the end of the year, but this will stand out as the best experience I had. We found this restaurant when we were walking around the block to El Cerrito Plaza. It was a new place then, and the sign and the bamboo stalks caught our attention. My family loves noodles, so we saved this spot and decided to go on our next visit. Weeks passed, and here we are. We entered the restaurant in the late afternoon (3pm). The staff welcomed us and led us to our seats. It was 3pm and we were pretty hungry, so we ordered the dishes we typically order at: fried rice, some type of pan fried noodle, and soup. After observing the menu, we ordered the Yangzhou stir-fry, vegetarian stir-fry, and the Hunan hot and sour. We also ordered our first ever green onion pancake here. We also ordered a set of tea, oolong, because the photos on yelp showed a beautiful tea set and we wanted to see how the tea tasted like. The tea arrived first and the owner explained the wait time before serving it. As we waited the dishes came in one at a time, the pancake came first, then the fried rice and noodles, and finally the hot and sour soup. All the dishes were delicious! This is my first time eating a green onion pancake, so I'm not not what the best tastes like, but I really enjoyed it. The outside was crispy and the inside was chewy. I liked how the pancake was thin too. As a person who loves green onions, I loved the taste of the vegetable. For me, it was subtle, but my relative who doesn't eat as many green onions as I do, said it was strong. What we really enjoyed and loved was the Yangzhou stir-fry. This is the fried rice we were searching for, is what we almost shouted in unison. The flavor was on point; despite the dish having a faint color, each rice grain was packed with flavor. The shrimp was plump and sweet, and it tasted very clean too. It was so good, if my stomach wasn't so full, I would have asked for seconds xD I was also pleased with the vegetarian stir-fry. Despite no meat flavor, the dish had a rich flavor in every bite. I liked how the staff first mentioned to mix the dish first before eating, and that was a good tip. The sauce was at the bottom, so after some tossing, the noodles got a coffee brown color. I liked the faint vinegar-like taste in the sauce. Finally, the hot and sour noodle soup. I usually order hot and sour soup because it's my favorite dish. This one was different from the ones I had because this had the name Hunan. I liked this one too! When asked for the spice level, we opted for mild. It was some spices, and if I ate that with the soup and noodle, I almost coughed xD The overall dish, as mild, I can eat without the need of water, but it's the specks of spice chilis that was spicy. We were surprised of the noodles; it was something I never had before. I can't really explain the exact description on the texture, but it's soft that I can cut it without much pressure on the teeth. However, the noodles were sturdy, that it didn't overcook in the broth. I'm not forgetting the tea! We ordered the oolong tea, and the mouthfeel was creamy and round. I really really loved the aroma that emitted from the steeped tea. I was surprised that when the perfect and good steeped tea was very light in color, but when I sipped it, the flavor exploded in the mouth. The beautiful teapot filled three drinking cups twice, so we drank it while we ate our meal. When we were done eating and the plates were empty, the staff came by with a jar of hot water for us to fill and enjoy post-lunch. She offered a third, but for this time we declined -- but we will definitely consider it the next time. Before I forget, I would give extra stars for the staff, or the owner of the restaurant. She was so kind and friendly to us during the whole food experience. It almost felt like we visited her home and she welcomed us with tea and a delicious dinner. I enjoyed having a chat with her while she brought in dishes. For sure, we will come back again.

Yelp
I love the vegan broth and soup (I get thin rice noodles instead of ramen noodles) Also the vetarían fried rice is really good!
