15 Places In Philly To Eat And Drink On South Street

"With Lorenzo and Sons and Rita’s nearby, you’ll usually find a crowd near 3rd and South that looks like the one near the Swann Memorial Fountain on a hot summer's day. But it’s Nora’s Kitchen—with their lineup of tacos, tortas, and burritos dripping in smoky habanero and salsa verde—that offers the best option on the busy corner. Everything they put on their house made corn tortilla here is excellent, including the shrimp, carnitas, and al pastor. And since they have plenty of vegan options like chorizo tacos made out of TVP (textured vegetable protein), it’s a fast and casual place where you can bring any of your friends when you want a laid-back spot that’s not near one of the busy bars on the street." - candis mclean, alison kessler

The Best Damn Nachos in Philly | Eater Philly

"While this South Street gem is known for its array of tacos, burritos, and quesadillas, its loaded nachos are an undercover crowd-pleaser. They feature a generous portion of crispy tortilla chips topped with cheese, beans, sour cream, pico de gallo, pickled jalapeños, and chipotle aioli." - George Banks-Weston

Nora‘s kitchen is a great place! From the nice gentleman taking our order, to the cozy upstairs eating space, to the outstanding food, this place is five star! I had the loaded nachos with chicken, which was so tasty and full of flavor. The homemade chips stay crunchy, even to the last bite. Each member of my family had a burrito. Each one was loaded & was so delicious! Highly recommend this place!

This is a gem in South Philly. We had tacos today but they have much more to offer. The service is great and the ordering process is so easy to use. The food and the atmosphere is very good indeed. I highly recommend Nora's Kitchen.

Google
The food was not bad. I got the Nachos, and they had pretty much everything I wanted. I would have preferred pinto or refried beans over black beans, but I wanted to try as advertised. The location itself was very small, and the chairs are a bit restrictive to larger people such as myself, but the little place had charm. The staff were very nice and helpful, I just wished the food was a bit better. I think the chips were a bit stale and possibly from an old batch which is disappointing Would consider try again another time.

Google
The food was great and the service was excellent. My only complaint was that the background music was too loud, but then I'm an old person and known to be cranky. Would definitely eat there again and recommend it to anyone liking Mexican food

Google
Absolutely the best tacos I’ve ever had. Put together thoughtfully with care. Ordered 3 beef and 3 chicken; they gave me 2 forks as I’d this wasn’t all for me, and started with the beef taco - about as perfect as a taco as you can get. Was saving half for later but put 5 down in just a few blissful moments of food heaven.

Google
I fell in love with the food here. Food is made so well. The spicy 🥵 is hot. The sauces are fresh. Meat cooked well. Chorizos were crunchy on the outside and nice and moist on the inside. Now let’s go to the star of the show…the red beans and rice which is only 4.00 but you get a nice hefty amount and the beans don’t taste like they are out of a can but soft slow cooked with perfect rice…..yummy!! I got a to go side. Now it’s a smal smal place but head to this place immediately!!

Shawn S

Google
the ingredients are delicious, the food is well seasoned, the meat choices are all great. authentic cooking. but they have the Worst deal in burritos in South Philly. a TINY burrito for $14 that's half the size of anyone else's.

Atmosphere: Nora’s is a fast food restaurant that serves Mexican Classics. The space inside the restaurant is very small - only a few tables and chairs, a front counter, and kiosks on the side counter for customers to input their orders. I went during the weekend when there was a street festival outside, so the restaurant was packed with customers waiting for their orders. They also have a small outdoor seating area for customer overflow. Service: This was really quick - I ordered my food via the self-service kiosk and got my tacos after 15 minutes. As far as I could tell, you needed to wait until the person at the front yelled your name to know when your order was ready. Food: I got three, jam-packed Birria Beef Tacos which came with two sauce sides and a few limes. Overall, the food was savory, flavorful, and filling! I had the save the two other tacos that I couldn’t finish in one sitting. Tips: If you are waiting outside like me - after 15-minutes of putting in your order, check with the front counter to see if it’s ready. More than likely it is!

Yelp
It's been some time since I have ordered. I am pleased with the timelines of the delivery via DoorDash. The freshness of my Fish Burrito Bowl, that comes with tortillas and I selected the mild green sauce. Great presentation, cost effective for a nice portion.

Yelp
This is a nice authentic Mexican food spot that I enjoyed trying. I got the Santa Fe enchilada style burrito. It was nice and saucy with crunchy chips and cheese on the side. I would have preferred less rice and more beans next time. Service was good and there is additional seating and a restroom upstairs.

Yelp
Both times we ordered from here it was great! We've tried birria tacos and chicken, steak and al pastor bowls and all were excellent. Fresh ingredients, great flavors, the rice is really good too. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
We stopped here by chance after shopping in a neighborhood store. The portions were perfect, and the food was great. I ordered the Taco Sampler, which included tacos with the following proteins: chicken, steak, al pastor, fish and shrimp. Take out terminals are provided for ordering, and those with cash can order at the counter. The interface of the terminals is easy to understand and use, customization of orders is possible, and electronic payments can be made when using them. While there are only three tables downstairs, there is a larger dining area upstairs for those who wish to dine in. We're definitely open to eating here again!

Yelp
AMAZING service. Great BYOB as well as of my favorite places to go on south st. Don't miss out on greatness if you are in the area. Food is amazing but the ambiance is even better. Love it here. 10/10. Highly recommend

Yelp
Nora Kitchen may seem like a small restaurant, but they have plenty of spacious seating upstairs. The service was quick; I believe I received my order within 10 minutes.I got three chicken tacos, which were really meaty and filling. The sauces brought out the flavor of the chicken nicely, and they provided a generous amount for each taco. Overall, it was good for a one-time try. I probably should have purchased more toppings to enhance the taste.

Yelp
best tacos ive ever had... takes a few extra mins for ur order but its so worth it, it comes out hot and fresh and the red spicy sauce i literally could drink it with a straw. also super clean. been craving them for weeks and i just havent had the time to go down the philly recently ... so sad ! ill be back asap

Yelp
Kind of a far drive but it's worth it! Everything I have tried so far has been amazing, definitely worth checking it out.

Ryleigh M.

Yelp
The food was delicious and came with great portions for the price! The music was so fun and we were dancing for our whole meal. We didn't buy drinks but they gave us water on the house; amazing service and would 100% recommend if you're visiting Philly!
google avatar

Yelp
While visiting from out of state, we popped into this small taco spot, and it was a delicious experience! You get the ease of ordering on a tablet which made the process quick and convenient. I loved the option to select different types of tacos when ordering a 2 taco combo - a great way to sample their variety. The food was exceptionally fresh and delicious, from the flavorful tacos to the spicy cucumbers and the tasty rice & beans. The quick service was also a plus. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I love Nora's Kitchen!...we order takeout... the fish tacos are outstanding... last night we ordered the 5 taco combo, and it was great!!!...

Yelp
A great option for takeout. I especially love their enchiladas. I don't think it's the best place for a sit-down meal though

Yelp
Small quaint restaurant with very good, authentic food. I am from San Diego and am very particular about Mexican food. I recommend this place.

Syi F.

Yelp
Hair inside of my TacoNever again will I eat here. As I an chewing I feel something stringy in my mouth I assumed it was lettuce until I swallowed most of the chewed taco I realized it was not lettuce its hair. I really want my money back and I better not get sick PLEASE ENSURE YOUR WORKERS HAVE ON HAIR NETS.

Yelp
We ordered both the shrimp and fish taco. The shrimp taco is much better than the fish taco. Overall, the food is pretty good. The dining room upstairs is nice. Ordering is easy with the tablet.

Yelp
Almost didn't walk in here. Was hungry after a show at Repo Records and was looking from the outside when someone said from the street "Just go in. Best Mexicans food in Philly" Not a lie was told. The Quesabirria Tacos were amazing. Will come back when on South Street
google avatar

Sewit J.

Yelp
Been waiting to stop by this place for weeks because I heard they had birria. Unfortunately that's wasn't on the menu but not worries because I ordered the steak tacos and a side of chips and guac. The tacos were so filling and flavorful. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning The only downside of this place was that I was told they'd give me my food while I waited outside but they never did. I waited an extra 20 minutes because I assumed it was never ready but I went inside and it was just sitting there which was disappointing. Food: 4/5 Service: 2.5/5

Viviana A.

Yelp
Visiting from Florida, picked up Quesabirria tacos, chicken tortilla soup and a chicken quesadilla. Everything was delicious. The quesadilla was packed with meat (chicken was moist and tasty) and lots of cheese. The soup was perfect for a rainy day. My Quesabirria tacos were the best, great flavor and plenty of meat. I will definitely return next I am visiting Philly. Awesome local spot .

Owen S.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service. Food was very subpar. The chips were quite hard and I would not recommend my birra tacos. Seating was dirty but place is cute.
google avatar

Rick M.

Yelp
I ordered from here, on Tuesday, and then again on Thursday. Ground beef tacos and avocado salad. Unbelievable! I'm so glad I found this place.
google avatar

Linda G.

Yelp
I love their fish tacos, the birra tacos and even the veggie tacos! It's my go to Mexican spot whenever I am in the city.

Harold R.

Yelp
Quality is pretty good. Portions are a lot. The birria tacos are what I usually get. Steak tacos are not bad but I find the portions for the steak tacos to be small The only issue is that everything is overpriced for what you get. Makes you feel like you're over paying for the sake of providing profits as opposed to getting more food
google avatar

Yelp
A solid, not-too-expensive taco joint on south street! With the likes of El Vez and Mission Taqueria in town, it's nice to find a more affordable options for good tacos without venturing into south philly. For the location and price, I enjoyed my meal of zucchini tacos! The veggies were filling, and pretty tasty. We also shared some chips and guacamole for the table, which was good as well. My friends tried a variety of the other tacos, and enjoyed those as well. I did see a delicious looking plate of nachos on the table next to us, and am eager to return and try those as well!

Lara S.

Yelp
We spent Memorial Day weekend in Philly and walked, ate and drank through the whole city. Found this place on YELP and decided to give it a try. VERY small place, more take out with 4 tables inside and a few tables outside. The food was outstanding. We had the carnitas nachos and elote (Mexican street corn). It's BYOB so bring your tequila. Don't miss out on this cute little gem.
google avatar

Colby P.

Yelp
The tacos slap, but helping the people that own it slaps even more. Great place to support the community
google avatar

Chloe M.

Yelp
This place is seriously so good. I'd recommend every type of empanada (but you only get one in an order which is kind of expensive in my opinion). The taco meats are well seasoned and the spicy mayo on top was phenomenal. Try all the salsas too, they make it for me. Just a little spot with limited seating but I come by myself and sit at their shelf-seating facing the wall. It's seriously so good and tastes authentic.

Yelp
Nora's is really close to where I work and is a popular break-time lunch spot! We decided to try it out for the first time for take-out and decided to order a chicken burrito & chicken over rice dish. Noticing this from each time, Nora's make their dishes really quick and there's barely any wait time! Their food tasted delicious and would definitely come again to try more foods from their varying menu items!!
google avatar

Whitney S.

Yelp
The food here packs a punch. I am still thinking about the loaded nachos and fish tacos we ordered. The tacos here are easily among my favorites in Philly. The best part about this place, though, is how affordable everything is. You won't break the bank on a meal, but you WILL leave here satiated.
google avatar

Justin J.

Yelp
Taco Tuesday? Cinco de Mayo? Doesn't matter the occasion. Nora's Kitchen did not disappoint when it came to their tacos. I got the al pastor and steak. Both phenomenally marinated and bursting with flavors. Will be back to try the Chorizo and the birria!
google avatar

Kristin S.

Yelp
Just so full but feeling healthy!!!! So fresh! I am obsessed with the shrimp taco!!!!

samantha m.

Yelp
i'm from San Diego and this is one of the best fish tacos i've had. My order came out super quick with a smile on the waiters face. Lots of flavor would def recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
It was amazing! So yummy, don't just walk past. Head right on in & order the most delicious food!!
google avatar

Ramya B.

Yelp
Ordered this place for lunch delivery on a Saturday and it was delicious! Got the Wicho Nachos and Fish Tacos. Very reasonably priced for the quantity of food they give. Will definitely be ordering from here again to try their other menu items.

Yelp
Nora sure knows how to attract her customers! A FREE margarita with a purchase of an entree?? Yes, please! My friend and I stumbled upon this place on a sunny Monday afternoon and decided to try it out. First and foremost, we were served our complementary margaritas which were pretty good, not strong but I didn't expect them to be. We left feeling good nonetheless. I ordered the grilled chicken tacos with onion and cilantro and my friend got the chilaquiles with a fried egg on top. We thoroughly enjoyed our entrees mainly because the chicken on our plates was deeeelicious! It was juicy and perfectly seasoned. The only thing my friend wish she could have changed about her chilaquiles is the cook of her egg. It was slightly overcooked for her taste but that's just her preference. They also serve complementary chips and 3 different types of dips if you're into that! I know I am. This place was perfect for a quick and affordable lunch! I highly recommend.
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
Nora's was a decent taco. The Al Pastor comes with a modest portion of pineapple marinated pork and heaps of condiments. The pork was not well-executed. It seems like they didn't let the slow heat hit it long enough. The bite was moderately tough. Flavor was more pineapple-dominant than Al Pastor I've had elsewhere. The vegetable toppings, while heaping, did not shine as being particularly fresh or flavorful. Think grocery store salad bar. They seem to be there just to kind of take up space. I should have figured that a place on South St would be subject to the tourist-inflation factor. This is not 4.5 star material. I would eat here again, the tacos are OK, not exceptional.
google avatar

Luba P.

Yelp
Wow this was a very unexpected delicious discovery. This place is super cute and very casual, but with food on par with Tequilas and El Vez for a fraction of the cost (around $10). Perfect for a birthday dinner or girls night out, because they also provide a fantastic fresh margarita mix (also BYOB!). All of the food was truly delicious with large portions. I loved my taco salads, it was so good and refreshing, and not heavy like in other places. The chicken nachos were perfect, as well as the guacamole. For dessert we got fresh churros. Highly recommend if you are in the area!

Lukalalie 0.

Yelp
Overpriced and a little ass. Was also out with a friend, and the street tacos are apparently too dry. The burrito was bland asf -- cute place tho, nice people
google avatar

Mark K.

Yelp
I have stopped in here a few times for the fruit drinks and I personally love the cucumber lemonade. That said, today I had the California burrito. I have not had one of these since I lived in San Diego and it was just amazing. I would say even better then any of the ones I had or tried in San Diego. It's just stuffed with steak and crispy fries. It's a large meal only made better with the side of fresh guacamole. The fish and shrimp tacos are also very good and to finish this off the owner is just the nicest lady. Definitely give this place a try!

Carlos L.

Yelp
Best tacos that you can ever taste in Philly! Amazed with the flavor and the excellent service, very professional and good. Gracias por la soda viejon
google avatar

Daniel R.

Yelp
This food is amazing!!!! Making my way through the menu but so far it's all delicious. Burritos are awesome. Tortas up next. Five stars.
google avatar

Kyle B.

Yelp
Nora's never, ever disappoints. My wife and I are regulars and the cravings never go away. The menu has evolved with more options, although we always get tacos and burritos. We also had Nora's cater a big party for 20 and it was a huge hit. We love the family feel and that it's a local small business.

Niki M.

Yelp
The first time I trekked out here it was closed for unclear reasons, despite the ability to order delivery online and it being during normal business hours. I tried again! There's a storefront with cashier stand to pay cash as well as electronic kiosks. I had a question about the menu, but no one came out for at least 10 minutes...so I had to call them, while standing in the store. Bit odd but figured they were short staffed so trying to focus on getting orders out? The California burrito was pretty plain unfortunately, even with the added sauce, so definitely didn't compare to anything you'd get in, say, San Diego. It did come with chips. I would try something else from the menu though since the meal did taste fresh! No indoor dining currently but there are two tables outside.
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
The food is always amazing here ! The prices are really good. Staff is always welcoming and friendly! The menu has a great variety to select from. The place is nice in side has two floors, you can sit downstairs or upstairs. Can pay cash or card.
google avatar

Yelp
I wanted Mexican food. So, my son and I came here coz it was close to his apartment. Well, it's nowhere near the Mexican dishes I've had in Arizona or New Mexico. I wanted carne asada, which to my surprise, wasn't on the menu. I guess I was setting my bar too high. However, the food was pretty good. I had the marinated bite sized pieces of steak which came with rice, black beans, and a salad. My son had the three different kinds of Tacos, fish, chorizo, and steak; the same steak that was on my plate. Overall, this place is an okey Mexican restaurant.

Chris C.

Yelp
Yummy and filling! This was our first time here. We placed our order, I ordered a chicken quesadilla hubby had chorizo street tacos. We were both pleasantly surprised with amount of food we were given. My quesadilla had sooo much chicken I couldn't finish it. The only hiccup was a hair on the lime wedge. The hostess was apologetic and quickly gave us replacements. The lemonade was perfectly sweetened and refreshing! Can't wait to try something else!
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
My go to spot for burritos. I've eaten plenty in this city and for the price, these are some of the best around.

Yelp
Avoid this place at all costs. Ordered online and sounded good. Big mistake. I had three chicken tacos and sat in bathroom that night and morning. My wife had shrimp tacos and broke out in hives the next day. Never had them before. We shared nachos so something wasn't right. Drs office visit, food and lost time in bathroom not worth it. Never again!
