Nestled in Queensway Market, Normah’s Cafe serves up vibrant, home-style Malaysian dishes in a cozy, no-frills setting that’s always buzzing with eager diners.
"Cancellations on the District line? Normah’s curry laksa will keep you occupied. Got caught in the rain after the weather app lied to you? Normah’s fried chicken wings will make you feel better. Any bad day we’ve ever had has been made better by Normah’s roti beef rendang—and, of course, the welcoming one-woman-show chef herself. This Malaysian spot inside Queensway Market has a hold on our thoughts and our bank cards. But don’t worry, it’s one of the few London spots where you can eat a satisfying meal for under £20." - daisy meager, jake missing, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak, jake missing, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, sinead cranna, jake
"Although it feels hidden, this small Malaysian spot tucked inside Queensway Market, isn’t much of a secret. Because when you’re serving food as tasty as Normah is, word gets out. Everything from the unbelievably crispy fried chicken wings and comforting prawn laksa, to the roti beef rendang is a cut above the rest. Come with a group so that you can try a bit of everything, then return alone so you won’t have to split another flaky roti." - rianne shlebak
"One welcoming chef, one cosy restaurant, one roti beef rendang that will become two when you just need to double check that a roti can be this gloriously soft and flaky. Yes, Normah’s, a tiny, low-key Malaysian spot inside Queensway Market, is the kind of place where sharing seems like a good idea—the fried chicken, laksa with king prawns, assam pedas seabass, and that roti beef rendang are all essential orders. But you’ll quickly become as protective over the food in front of you as a poodle with a chicken bone. It’s a place that’ll remind you why London is the greatest city in the world, and after a meal here, you’ll want to protect chef Normah at all costs." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley
"Normah’s roti, like the finest croissant from a Parisian patisserie, is a flaky and buttery thing. The Malaysian stalwart’s bread is made to be shredded apart, its multiple layers soft and crumbly, all to hold the sauces of beef rendang and other curries. Or, in our opinion, best used as a makeshift and delicious napkin. Like all great bread craftspeople, chef Normah knows that while her rotis may only be seen as vehicles for other more substantial or saucy things, it’s a lovingly kneaded and slapped bit of dough that separates the wheat from the chaff." - jake missing
"Open for: DinnerPrice range: $$Chef Normah Abd Hamid and her family team offer a Malaysian comfort menu that makes the restaurant one of the best in the city from a nook of a unit in Queensway Market. Sour, hot assam pedas; roti to rival London’s King in Euston; and beef rendang or nasi lemak to go alongside. Normah’s is quaint and Normah is brilliant; this remains one of central London’s best restaurants to visit with a small group of friends and one to take out-of-towners visiting the city.Know before you go: The food is halal, and no alcohol is allowed on site." - Adam Coghlan
