Happy Pills Candy Store Opens First U.S. Location in Boston | Eater Boston

"I found a brightly lit, pharmacy-themed candy shop in the North End — Happy Pills' first U.S. franchise at 121 Salem St. — where customers fill pill-bottle-like containers with one or more of 88 different candies and then choose from a variety of labels; private events can get custom labeling. The Barcelona-based concept recreates the ambiance of a pharmacy, offers some sugar-free options now, plans to add gluten-free and vegan options soon, and is closed on Mondays." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Google
Very cute place with delicious ice cream!! The owner makes everything from scratch. I had the seasonal apple cider donut and it was one of the best flavors I’ve ever had in my life! The owner said that for that flavor she makes the donuts from scratch to add into the ice cream!!

Google
This place is so cute! I keep going back whenever I am in Boston! It’s not your typical ice cream. It's so creamy and so many flavor options to choose from. The service is exceptional, everyone was so kind! Highly recommend to try if you’re in the area!

Google
Delicious ice cream and other treats. I got chocolate and bourbon maple pecan ice cream. Both were great, but the chocolate reminded me of the malts I would get as a kid at the stadium. The brownies were recommended to me and they did not disappoint. Soft, rich, and cakey. They also have a great selection of unusual and classic candy. Definitely worth a detour.

Google
Great place for ice cream in the north end. They offer a small candy store alongside some classic Asian flavors. There are even options for the addition of boba. I highly suggest their tea flavor ice creams and don’t forget the toppings. I got the milk tea and Thai Tea coconut flavors. For someone who likes simple ice cream but with a wits I highly suggest their milk tea. It was a nostalgic taste.

Google
OMG, a hidden local gem. Amazing ice cream and very cute little candy store. Has the historical feel. I bet it will bring nostalgia to some people. The Matcha strawberry ice cream was one THE best Matcha I've had. The pistachio had real pistachio in it that you actually chew the nuts. The pecan maple syrup was disappointing. Just tasted bland. Unfortunately you can only try two flavors before making the selection (and I went for pistachio and pecan maple) so I couldn't try others. Price is really recent for the amount you get. Please be mindful that these ice cream contain ALCOHOL though, and there are limited non-alcohol options. Planning to come again to try their other sundaes and tea/ice cream floats. Would highly recommend!

Google
We tried the Taro, Thai Tea and Raspberry chocolate chip ice cream, and they were all delicious!! However, slightly disappointed that you can only taste test 2 flavors. I taste tested the Bourbon Maple Pecan and it the bourbon taste was too strong for me personally.

Google
I stopped by North End Creamery and tried their chocolate ice cream in a little cup — and wow, it was divine! Rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced in sweetness. You can really taste the quality ingredients. The portion was just right, and the texture was so creamy it practically melted in my mouth. The service was also excellent — very fast, efficient, and incredibly friendly. Definitely one of the best spots for ice cream around. I’ll be back to try more flavors for sure!

Google
Choco mint was much better than bask in Robins! And Taro was unique and tasty too. It surely rich Homemade ice cream!

Yelp
Small shop, but very well organized. This team and business have a workflow that works well when people are paying attention. They have candies and other products you can browse while standing in line. The ice cream was very creamy and delicious. I had the oreo (cookie). Staff was efficient and polite. If I'm ever back in the area, I will ABSOLUTELY stop here again!
google avatar

Melody B.

Yelp
Very creamy ice cream in the north end of Boston! I got a small cookies & cream and it was very fresh. To keep the line moving, they only let you taste test up to two flavors. There was a small line when we were there, but service was quick & friendly.
google avatar

Alyssa C.

Yelp
milk tea flavor was incredible. the flavor was perfect and the texture was super creamy. the matcha strawberry was also fantastic, with the matcha tasting not artificial at all. next will have to try the thai tea coconut. there are not too many ice cream places with flavors like these, so this was a very pleasant surprise. service was kind of weird, they put my cup down and walked away as I was paying without saying anything
google avatar

Jac B.

Yelp
Cute little shop. All the flavors we tried were good but I especially liked the cereal milk. The fruity pebbles were a little soggy but I was into it. Duality small batch ice cream!
google avatar

Theresa C.

Yelp
Love the smell of waffle cones. This place has a mix of classic flavors and some that are not your norm. We all really enjoyed the fall apple cider flavor. Pumpkin custard was unfortunately sold out. Cute little ice cream place in Little Italy.

Yelp
This genuinely was some of the best ice cream I've had in forever!!! We were visiting from out of town and came across this spot while walking around after dinner. It's a fairly small storefront with no seating, but the line moved fast and the staff were kind. I got a cake cone with one scoop of taro milk and another scoop of fruity cereal. Truly, so yummy! I wish we had the time to go back during our stay in the city.

Yelp
Is it a sin to get ice cream instead of gelato when you're in the North End? Maybe a venial sin. But the thing that's really sinful is the flavor and creaminess of the ice cream. They have a nice mix of traditional and creative flavors. My favorite was the bourbon maple pecan. The price for the ice cream is a bit above average but a better deal the more scoops you get. The bigger surprise to me was the cost of the cones - had I seen that in advance, I would have gotten my ice cream in a cup. Plus, my cone was quite dense and tough. Any future visits, I'll just get ice cream and be completely happy.

Yelp
Cute storefront along Salem St in the North End! Balanced flavors and interesting combinations. We were talking about the Thai Tea Coconut ice cream long after it was finished!! The staff is super conscious of allergies, changed scoops and opened a new container for my order. (Photo was from a past visit)

Yelp
I went to the north end creamery the other day with my friend and it was SO GOOD. The flavors are so unique and absolutely delicious. I got the pumpkin chai custard and my friend got taro--both were amazing. The girlies there were super sweet and the store itself is super cute! Would 100% go here again and try more flavors

Yelp
Item(s) ordered: Small scoop with Taro and Thai Tea with coconut The Review: There aren't many ice cream shops with interesting flavors around here. North End Creamery fills that gap! The taro flavor was amazingly creamy and the Thai tea was not sweet, but textured with the coconut pieces. The staff were really nice and customers are allowed to taste flavors (a rarity around here!). Nice stop when you have a hankering for ice cream in the North End.

Yelp
Yummy ice cream! Loved the espresso oreo and milk tea flavors. Gelato equipment ice cream style. Great service. Girls were sweet and friendly. Happy to drop by this creamery in the Italian neighborhood and not far from Paul Revere house. Thanks for making our Boston trip super sweet.
google avatar

Bonnie G.

Yelp
Everything everybody has said. Five stars all the way for this homemade ice cream where every single flavor is great. Would come here every week if I lived here. The espresso Oreo and Thai tea coconut were nuts. Coming back. 5 stars!!!!
google avatar

Joy Q.

Yelp
Ice cream is not bad. I tried matcha and taro, and went with taro since it's less sweet and tastes more creamy. Service was nice. Don't be afraid of the line - the line moves fast. A great summer bite after an Italian meal at North End!

Yelp
My favorite ice cream is birthday cake, so I was excited to see they had this flavor! I liked it had cake pieces and sprinkles in it, I wish the frosting was creamier but overall it was really good and staff was friendly! It's a small place so you can't eat inside, but they have many flavors and different desserts.
google avatar

Rachel T.

Yelp
Very yummy ice cream with totally unique flavors! We were looking for ice cream or gelato and wandered here. There's a bright atmosphere inside and so many fun flavors to choose from! I got the Thai tea and strawberry matcha both of which were fantastic! I'm a huge ice cream foodie and this definitely met my standards! Service was pretty good and efficient, I'm pretty excited to come back!
google avatar

Molly L.

Yelp
We came here on a weeknight and it was open pretty late. We got a double scoop of coconut Thai tea and watermelon sorbet. Both scoops were just okay. The Thai tea had a sort of strong taste where we couldn't taste the coconut. The watermelon sorbet was very thick and the texture was a little off. We also bought some candy such as pop rocks, hubba bubba bubble gum, clove gum, and sour belts. The prices were reasonable. But overall we thought the ice cream was just okay.
google avatar

Adam R.

Yelp
Awesome icecream. Very creamy and great option of unique flavors. I had the banana with caramel and cookies and cream. The cones here are amazing. They are supper thick and crunchy and are more like cookie then anything
google avatar

Pete W.

Yelp
Delicious treat on Salem st. The people working here are cool and listen to good music. They make their ice cream themselves which is quite rare in the ice cream industry. Great spot if you want something other than cannolis and gelato in the North End.

Robert S.

Yelp
Service was amazing and fun. Taro and pumpkin spice chai were great! Priced reasonably. Go!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite ice cream places in Boston! If you are around the north end area you gotta try this. The taro flavor is like a childhood memory and it's not commonly found in the US. The matcha strawberry swirl is a great choice if you like matcha. Also you can't go wrong with lemon sorbet in a hot summer day!
google avatar

Eva A.

Yelp
Homemade! The owner literally makes the ice cream in a machine in shop. They usually have dairy free flavors, but they ran out and we didn't have time to wait for it to be made. The owner was super nice and offered a cookie on the house instead or lactaid! The ice cream itself was good, but the vanilla lacked in flavor. The fudge brownie was very rich and the cookie dough was decent, but with the vanilla base so it was sweet but not super flavorful. The portions were decently large, I couldn't even finish one scoop. Overall would go again!

Yelp
North End Creamery is regularly rated as one of the best ice cream places in Boston. I tried it for the first time today and I must say I was delighted with the place and the service. The store is a small, brightly-colored establishment located in the middle of a bustling North End full of restaurants and eateries. There was a queue inside (it was a Saturday evening after all), but the line moved fast. The service was efficient and the servers were polite and welcoming. I ordered two scoops in a medium cup (around $6) -- the quantity was decent. I tried Thai tea coconut, espresso Oreos, bourbon maple pecan, and taro. The taro was outstanding -- so creamy and luscious and just the right amount of sweetness. The maple pecans came in a close second. The espresso Oreos felt like any store-bought coffee ice cream. The Thai tea coconut was a flavor I couldn't get on board with -- it wasn't completely horrible, but there was very little coconut (maybe that's what Thai tea coconut tastes -- I haven't ever tasted it, so I apologize if my observation is wrong!). However, the taro blew everything out of the water and ensured that I'll definitely return to North End Creamery and try their other flavors. 10/10 -- would recommend!

Yelp
Cute little creamery! Some unique flavors, and the Waffle cones were really good! It is quite small and no area to sit, so plan on taking it to go and walk around North End

Yelp
I've got high standards when it comes to ice cream and I can say this place hit the mark. I stopped by on a Sunday night in July and it was pretty busy, with a line out the door, which is always a good sign. It's a pretty small shop, so you'll probably have to take your ice cream to go. I'd recommend sitting by the waterfront area, as long as you don't mind your ice cream melting a bit along the way. The best part about this place is the unique flavors. I would have asked to try a few samples had it not been so busy, but I was very happy with my selection. I really enjoyed the Taro and Thai Tea Coconut, which reminded me of bubble tea. The coconut flakes were a nice touch and the ice cream itself wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. I'd love to try the Fruity Cereal next time!
google avatar

Yelp
They did not accommodate for my nut allergy at all. Very disappointing. The ambiance was nice though.

Yelp
I had a great experience at North End Creamery on date night with my wife. Staff were friendly, the ice cream was top quality and The price was in line with what I would expect from a high quality ice cream shop. I had the thai tea ice cream. The only note I have against it was the larger flecks of coconut in the ice cream. I think it would have been more enjoyable if they were smaller and blended in more with the thai tea ice cream.
google avatar

Yembur A.

Yelp
I'm new to Boston and I've been struggling to find a high quality ice cream shop with unique flavors (and good vibes). Found it! So happy that this spot opened up. The employees are super helpful and friendly, and they have a nice selection of interesting flavors that taste delicious. I loved the fig+olive oil+walnut flavor, which I paired with the sugar cookie flavor. They have plenty of options for toppings too. A great place to stop by for dessert, especially if you don't feel like waiting in line for cannoli at Mike's!
google avatar

Salman K.

Yelp
North End Creamery offers some tasty treats (a mix of icecream, chocolate, and candy) in the heart of the North End in Boston. It's in the heart of the Italian District, but offers a reprieve from purely Italian desserts. Overall, they offered interesting flavors and reasonable prices. They unfortunately don't offer any seating inside or outside, and the portions were on the smaller side (they didn't fill the small cup and left awkward amounts of space). If you're in the area, check out this location. It's only been open for a few weeks!
google avatar

Brittany T.

Yelp
Very yummy and creamy ice cream. Fun and unique flavors. I love that they are so happy to let you try flavors. They were making their mint flavor when we walked in and it smelled SO GOOD. I had half mint chocolate chip and half raspberry chip. So yummy and rich
google avatar

Janelle L.

Yelp
Some of the best ice cream I have ever had! Honey lavender and ginger matcha are flavors I would pair with everything if I could. Absolutely perfect texture and creamy. Small little storefront but all the places are here in Boston. Very nice staff that let me sample multiple flavors!
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
Very good ice cream. The lavender honey has pieces of lavender plant in it so you know it's homemade! The ice cream sandwiches were HUGE and well worth the price. Busy place but staff kept it going quickly.

Mason T.

Yelp
They said the cookie dough ice cream had no nuts but it did and I threw up DO NOT RECOMMEND
google avatar

Jimmy M.

Yelp
Best ice cream in Boston! In particular, the Taro and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough are incredible. The Taro is a must try. Super friendly staff, and caring owners (who not only make the ice cream in house, but are just genuine and kind individuals). The cookies are really solid too - can't go wrong with a chocolate chip. I love this place and will be going regularly for some Taro and any other new flavors they have on their menu (they seem to have a few new, great flavors every week!!!)

David C.

Yelp
My family loved the ice cream. My favorite is cookie dough, and I'd say their cookie dough flavor is one of the best I've had (and I've had a lot)! Lots of tasty dough in it (sometimes you order cookie dough and there is hardly any dough, mostly just vanilla ice cream). The one I got here was awesome. Highly recommend - it's great!

Christopher S.

Yelp
Came here bc my wife has dairy allergy. They had 2 choices and she said it was fine.mine was too I don't love ice cream. Get the one scoop unless you want a pint.
google avatar

Maddie V.

Yelp
This is my FAVORITE ice cream shop of all time. The flavors are so unique, fun, and delicious. They also are constantly changing and so well done. I have been her many times and have yet to be disappointed with any of the flavors. The owner and staff are also very friendly which just makes the visit even more worth it.
google avatar

Michelle V.

Yelp
Vegan flavors on their website, but when I went in to order one they said they just hadn't gotten them out for the day. Do not recommend.

Tara L.

Yelp
The staff has been closing the store 30+ minutes early the last few weeks. They also treat you like an inconvenience as opposed to a customer if it's closer to the end of the evening. Would love to see that change as someone who used to regular with no issues like these.
google avatar

Ann C.

Yelp
The cutest little ice cream shop in the heart of the North End! The owner is the sweetest and always has a few fun Asian inspired flavors tucked away on her menu. I'm a sucker for the matcha and taro flavors when she has them. Ice cream is creamy and her shop also has other fun sweets to try out, like chocolates and cookies. You can't go wrong here.
google avatar

Bailee P.

Yelp
Actually some of the best ice cream I've ever had! We got the chocolate chip cookie dough and it was delicious. I feel like the milk and cream they use must be very high quality because you could really taste the difference.
google avatar

Shreya G.

Yelp
Amazing ice cream!!! I love getting an ice cream sandwich from there (the brownie cookie ). The staff is so friendly and super nice- it has a little ice cream store vibe to it and feels so friendly. The flavors are awesome and there's some unique ones too which are great. Definitely recommend!!!
google avatar

Monica L.

Yelp
really good ice cream! the ginger matcha is so rich and has strong matcha flavor. the single scoop is also massive so it's well worth it! pretty small inside so it can get a bit crowded. they also let you sample flavors!
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
Pretty good ice cream!! The two employees were super nice the cookies and cream was yummy

Amy W.

Yelp
So delicious! Worth driving there and took 29 mins to find parking. Hope they would have more stores in the city.
google avatar

Katrina P.

Yelp
This shop was a cute little shop we popped into while visiting. Their flavor selections was wide for dairy ice cream lovers but I was disappointed that there wasn't a single non dairy offering. They had a lot of vintage candies that are hard to find which was cool. The staff was friendly, serving size was fair, and I loved that all the ice creams were made in house. It was good, but not great and I really wish they had at least one non dairy flavor as shown in menu pictures from previous reviews

Jenna P.

Yelp
Pretty good ice cream- not the best I've ever had per se, but good for a sweet treat stop! It's so cute inside and in a good location.

Carter L.

Yelp
Hours posted are not accurate. Walked by at 9:15pm and they had just closed. I get shutting off orders close to closing time for hot food, but ice cream takes 1min to scoop, don't say you're open until 9:30 if you're not.
google avatar

Preston N.

Yelp
Amazing service, amazing treat. Try the Irish cream chocolate chip or the Oreo espresso

Xing X.

Yelp
Very creamy ice creams! Very creative flavors! I tried espresso Oreo and pistachio wine! Both are very tasty! Not easy to find a parking spot. A hidden gem!
