Yelp
The North Highland Pub has long been a vaunted take out spot among the people living in the apartments surrounding the pub (N. Highland Ave., Inman Park), of which I am one. The menu contains typical pub grub (burgers, wings, chicken fingers), but it is the quality of the ingredients that set them apart. As my next door neighbor, Josh, said, "I've never had something there that I didn't like." The "pub" as locals call it, also has a hip, yet comfortable bar scene. I don't typically partake in it but on a recent Monday night my wife and I decided to check it out.
Be for warned, if you do not smoke or have a serious aversion to cigarette smoke, this is not the place for you! The pub is very smokey and closed in. There are no patios to sequester smokers to. However, they do leave the front door open on occasion. Knowing that it was like this from my many takeout trips there, we prepared ahead of time by wearing our "smoking clothes." Which consists of jeans and one of those funny t-shirts you get from Target or something from a consignment store.
We walked in and initially the smoke factor was not that bad. We decided to sit down at the bar, because that's what you do at a bar, and order menus and two cosmos. Be for warned again, the drinks are extremely strong, if you are a lightweight (nothing wrong with that), stick to beer or wine. Otherwise, you will be feeling it in the morning.
After sipping our pinkish drinks for a few minutes, we made our order. I ordered the bucket shop chicken rolls, my wife order the fish tacos. Both are appetizers so we ordered a side of fries to split. By the way the service is excellent. They may come off a little gruff initially, but they really are very nice and prompt. Our food came out just in time for our second drinks; a Bass for me and another cosmo for my wife, yes she can hold her own.
The food was excellent. The bucket shop chicken rolls are tender chicken, peppers, and cheese sauce, wrapped in chalupa-like tortilla. It is substantial as a meal with a cheesy, spicy taste. The fish tacos are self-explanatory but excellent, tender, with a little spice to them as well. With the fries we were full and ready for trivia and our third drinks.
Be for warned on more time, trivia is difficult, especially when you've had three drinks, but if you love trivia, try it here on Monday nights. It's a team format and covers a wide range of topics. The winner gets a free bar tab for the night. Not to bad! And this place is excellent. For good comfort food, in a comfortable and fun setting, North Highland Pub is a good choice. Also, did I mention you can watch the Falcons there.
