Yelp
On business in the area and the business partner and I wanted a quick dinner meal before wrapping up the final work day.
I got on the trusty Yelp App and found some choices nearby. We decided to go to the area which had a bunch of restaurants. We would walk around and see what caught our eye. The first place we came to was North Italia and since Yelp had them at 4 stars, that was OK with me. Coincidentally, I was craving some Italian food.
We put our name in and were told it was a 15 to 20 minute wait, which was find with us. I was a really nice day, so we just sat on the bench outside and people watched for the next 10 minutes. At that point, the buzzer they had given us went off and we proceeded to the hostess stand and then shown to a high top table. The place was packed, there were servers moving quickly around with meals, empty plates or drinks. Seemed very hectic, but not extremely loud and everyone seemed happy especially the service staff and bartenders. Cool!
Both the business partner and I were not starving so we passed on an app and salad and just ordered our entrees. For me it was the Squid Ink Tonnarelli (whatever the heck tonnarelli is). This has, the unknown (to me) tonnarelli pasta, tiger shrimp, calamari, wild fennel pollen, mint, spicy tomato sauce. The pasta has the squid ink to make it dark, almost black. The business partner ordered the spicy rigatoni pasta. This was rigatoni with italian sausage, crispy pancetta, shaved garlic, torn basil and grana padano.
I feel like I have said this on many reviews recently, but the food came out very quickly. The place is packed, every table has food or empty plates and yet the kitchen kicks out our pasta in less than ten minutes. Maybe 5 minutes?? I know it was fast. Really fast.
Plates were warmed. Nice. Pastas were steaming. Nice. We had some bread and oil/balsamic dip to keep us company while we waited for the pasta to cool off.
Throwing caution to the wind, along with cares about burning our lips, tongue and roof of the mouth, we dug in. Actually, by this point the temperature was perfect.
I liked it all. Pasta. Squid. Shrimp. All cooked perfectly, not overdone and rubbery. The stand out was the Wild Fennel Pollen as it really gave a kick to the dish that I was not expecting and kinda mind blowing. JUST KIDDING. I have no idea what wild fennel pollen is and how it affected the dish's taste. I did not taste any fennel like I assumed I would. This was a great dish and I was very happy and full when done.
The business partner liked his spicy vodka rigatoni and he can be pretty picky when it comes to food while traveling.
The service was 5 stars and as I mentioned the place was packed and busy. Kudos for the staff, and our server specifically, to work in that environment and provide excellent service. Thanks!
Go. Eat Well. Try Tonnarelli and Wild Fennel Pollen. HAVE FUN!!
