Italian Infusion Brings Pasta and Pizza to Fashion Valley - Eater San Diego

"North Italia is a modern Italian restaurant, part of Fox Restaurant Concepts, opening its fifteenth location at Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego. The restaurant is led by executive chef Rich Sweeney, a former 'Top Chef' contestant, who has been cooking in San Diego for over a decade. North Italia offers a from-scratch menu of pasta made fresh daily, pizza, and dishes that bring a bright and ingredient-forward perspective to Italian classics. The 8,500-square-foot restaurant and bar seats nearly 300 guests and will be serving lunch, happy hour, dinner, and brunch." - Candice Woo

The food’s a coin toss—some days you score, other days you’re wishing you’d risked the food court orange chicken. The hot honey pizza, though, is fire—one of the better ones in San Diego. Bar service is always on point, making it the perfect place to hide from mall chaos with a glass of wine and something that doesn’t come on a plastic tray.

3 slices of Balsamic vinegar and olive oil bread. A simple green salad with grilled salmon was very good. Bolognese pasta was Al dente but almost too hard. I liked that the pasta did not have eggs or dairy. Our server was professional and friendly.

We had an absolutely enchanting evening at North Italia in Fashion Valley, and I must say, it was truly a night to remember. As we stepped into the restaurant, we were immediately enveloped in a warm and inviting ambiance that set the tone for a fantastic date night. The décor was sleek and modern, with subtle nods to Italy's rich history and culture. Our server was incredibly attentive and knowledgeable, guiding us through the menu with ease and making expert recommendations along the way. We started with the burrata appetizer, and oh, it was love at first bite. The creamy mozzarella and fresh tomatoes were perfectly balanced, and the accompanying basil and balsamic glaze added a depth of flavor that was simply divine. For our main courses, we opted for the pappardelle Bolognese and the spaghetti carbonara, both of which were cooked to perfection. The pasta was al dente, the sauces were rich and velvety, and the portion sizes were generous, to say the least. But what truly elevated our dining experience was the exceptional wine pairings. Our server expertly selected a few glasses that complemented our meals beautifully, and we thoroughly enjoyed sipping on each one. The ambiance and environment of the restaurant were truly special. The lighting was dim and intimate, with soft music playing in the background to create a romantic atmosphere. The outdoor seating area was beautifully landscaped, and we loved watching the sunset while we dined. What impressed us most, however, was the exceptional service we received. Our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, and the entire staff seemed to be working together seamlessly to ensure that our experience was nothing short of fantastic. All in all, our experience at North Italia in Fashion Valley was truly unforgettable. The food was exceptional, the wine pairings were superb, and the ambiance was romantic and intimate. If you're looking for a great place to take your significant other on a date, look no further than North Italia. We'll definitely be back.

Slightly overpriced but so delicious. Came with 6 co-workers and we were sat right away. Service was quick and very friendly. Generous portions that can easily be shared.

Was supposed to meet someone here but they canceled so I decided to have a quick meal at the bar. Sat for almost 10.minutes before any of the 4 staff members behind the bar even greeted me. I ordered a glass of wine, salad and pasta. Wine was nice. Salad came quickly and was delicious. Then I sat for another 30 minutes with no entree. The bartender asked me twice if my pasta arrived and she seemed concerned. I ordered a second glass of wine for the wait which I wasn't planning on having. Pasta never arrived so I asked to cancel and close tab. $60+ with tip for a small said and wine. Bartender asked if manager had spoken with me and I told her they had not. Doubt I'll return but since it's in the mall I doubt they'll miss my business. Probably why service isn't a priority.

We went here last night and are still taking about it! We had the kindest server and the food was amazing. Highly recommend starting with the olive oil balsalmic bread. The squid ink pasta with calamari and tiger shrimp was pretty spicy (in a good way) and easily the best dish I’ve had on my trip to San Diego. We also got the hot honey prosciutto pizza which was amazing with the ricotta dip. Overall would ABSOLUTELY return any day.

Google
Good Italian food for a franchise! Pizza was delish as was the shrimp scampi. The hazelnut torta is very decadent and heavy but worth it.

This place was amazing! Last minute stop for a lunch with my friend, we were craving Italian so we stopped by this place. There was no wait to be seated, and our server, Josh, was very friendly and attentive! The food was AMAZING. We got the calamari to start off with, a couple of drinks and we ordered the Chicken Parmesean and Chicken Pesto for our entrées. Not a single bad item was on the menu. AND we got a free brookie sundae for dessert:) Will definitely be recommending everyone to try this place out! Not too expensive either. Good quality Italian in Fashion Valley. What a hidden gem.

Yelp
North Italia is located at Fashion Valley Mall, I've always had wonderful dining experiences here. I decided to spend the last day of San Diego Restaurant Week here for brunch. They had a separate restaurant week brunch menu which was cool. The interior is very large, bright and has an open concept. They also have an outdoor seating area that is shaded. I decided to sit at the bar since I was solo dining. The bartender Colin was very attentive and helpful. Food/Drinks: Resiling: 5/5 Standard, California style Riesling. On the sweeter side. Heirloom Tomato & Burrata: 4/5 Very light and refreshing salad. Burrata was very creamy. Breakfast Carbonara Pasta: 3/5 This isn't my favorite carbonara I've tried, was decent. I did enjoy the spiciness to this dish. The lumache pasta threw me off a bit. This dish was different, not bad just different. Pancetta was crispy! Italian Donuts: 5/5 Wow, so warm, fluffy and delicious. Not overwhelming sweet, nice ending to my meal. Three courses for $30 can you complain? I think not! I'm glad I got to enjoy this delicious meal on a budget. I will be back.

Yelp
The squid ink tonarelli is THE BEST DISH EVER. if you like seafood, this dish is for you. The squid, shrimp all work together in a slightly spicy sauce with great fennel flavor and a sprinkle of greens. The squid ink pasta is homemade! All their pasta is homemade!!!! Cooked to the perfect al dente. Also tried the braised short rib lumache which had very nicely flavored short rib and a bit of a zest on the pasta. Sauce was creamy but not cheesy which was amazing! Takeout from this spot is quick and easy. Parking is easy because it's at the mall!

Yelp
The food was very delicious and the service was great. The environment was very pretty as well with lots of natural light. - White truffle garlic bread: 5/5 - Bolognese pasta: 4/5 - Hot honey and smoked prosciutto pizza: 5/5

Yelp
The space is nice, modern decor and airy. The staff were friendly and attentive. Food took a long time, about half an hour. Our waiter apologized for the wait. When the food arrived it was hot and delicious. The squid ink pasta was a bit spicy and I enjoyed it! When it came time for the check our waiter gave us the wrong bill but sorted it out quickly.

Yelp
Had dinner with my girlfriends here. My first time. We made reservations and were seating basically right when I checked in at the hostess stand. The food was all very fresh and very tasteful. Good portions! The lighting kept getting dim and then slowly bright and back to dim. Decor is cute!

Yelp
Pretty decent experience. Restaurant week try out. Came in a 3 course meal of a plate of prosciutto, one entree (I went with a crab and shrimp pasta dish), and a dessert. Place has a full bar where we waited out our reservation time. We were taken right on the dot for our reservation. Service was adequate. I'd like to try out the pizza next time I am here.

Yelp
I recently visited North Italia with a party of four, and unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. We specifically chose this restaurant because of their diverse gluten-free menu options and open-air seating. We waited for 20 minutes before being seated, which was expected for a Saturday afternoon. Our order included Grilled Bread with Ricotta ($10.50), two orders of Bolognese ($25.50 each), Chicken Parmesan ($26.00), Strozzapreti ($28.00), and the Naples White Pizza. Since several members of our group have gluten allergies, we opted for gluten-free crusts and pastas, which added approximately $4 per substitution. One of our orders, the Naples White Pizza, was requested without onions due to an onion allergy in our party. We clearly communicated this to our server. Unfortunately, despite our request, onions were hidden under the cheese, and our friend unknowingly consumed them, leading to a severe reaction. Our server, Bayleigh, was incredibly sweet and apologetic. She immediately took the pizza off our bill and made a sincere effort to make things right, which we greatly appreciated. However, when the manager came over to speak with us, he downplayed the seriousness of the situation, remarking that he was glad the allergy "isn't that bad." This comment was not only inappropriate but also dismissive, as he's not in a position to assess the severity of a medical condition. While the service from Bayleigh was commendable, the overall experience left us disappointed, especially considering the importance of food safety and the way the situation was handled by North Italia management. UPDATE 9/2/24: You can see that Guest Services asked me to reach out to them. I did around a week ago; no response.

Yelp
This place is okay in my opinion. My family and I made a reservation for my mom's birthday, table for 5. We were seated shortly after arriving and were seated at a round table, a little tight for 5 people so our plates were crowded but we made it work. Our server, I don't remember her name. She asked us if we've been to the restaurant before and we all said no. She said that she was happy to help us if we had any questions cause she "loved to talk". For someone who loves to talk, she didn't talk much lol. My mom had ordered calamari, wrote it down, walked away. We wanted to order more appetizers so we had to wave her down a couple times and let her know we were ready to order We ordered the calamari, beef carpaccio, and the white truffle bread. The appetizers came at a decent time and the 3 times were verryyy good! We all ordered different items and honestly the entrees were pretty underwhelming. My husband got the scallops with risotto. It was good but the corn risotto made it a little sweet with the scallops. I had the branzino and that was alright as well. The fish could have used some salt for sureee. My brother got the chicken Parmesan which wasn't bad, probably the best entree of the table. My dad had the pesto and that was alright too. Would I come back? Eh. Probably not

Yelp
Recommend making reservation or expect a wait time especially on the weekends. Give yourself time to find parking. It's located at a mall and the lot near the restaurant is small and packed for a busy weekend. The restaurant had high ceilings and an open floor plan. The booths aren't high so it can get loud with chatter. Basically with good eyesight you can see everyone in the restaurant. The bolognese was delicious; a classic favorite. Would have liked a bit more meat, but that could be the carnivore in me. The burrata was delectable. Light and fresh and a great compliment to the pasta. Got dessert to-go and the lemon olive oil cake (not photographed) was a great sweet but not too sweet treat to have later. I would go again if I was craving pasta and in the area. Sad note for any wine lovers: they didn't have Pinot Gris. Was hoping an Italian restaurant would have it, but sadly no dice.

Yelp
Happy hour here was fantastic. Great service, great vibe, delicious drinks, and even tastier food. Perfect time of the year to grab a drink and enjoy the cool breeze at the wraparound bar outside

Yelp
Who doesn't love a good mall day with some pasta My partner and I ate at the one in el segundo last year and decided to try it again closer to home and both times were great! I would not skip the white truffle garlic bread. So delicious! The little gem caesar salad is one of my favorites, too. This time, I was craving pesto so I got the chicken pesto and it hit the spot. My partner got the steak and eggs since they were still serving brunch and we loved it. Steak was cooked perfectly and the home fries came with this Calabrian pepper mix that was tasty. Only issue was we we wish the potatoes were crunchy! But flavor was definitely there. Service was good as well, they divide up the salad for you if you mention you'll be sharing! The location is in the mall so I'll def come back for an after shopping treat.

Yelp
Went for lunch on a whim after arriving from the airport. Did not expect much from this restaurant being at that it's a chain at the mall and I was fairly surprised at how great everything was. Clean aesthetic inside with the patio area open, perfect for San Diego weather. The waitress was nice and very attentive. Calamari was a little overcooked (slightly rubbery) but the breading on it was perfect. My cousin and I split the salad and it was the perfect size for one person. I'd definitely come here again.

Yelp
Made reservation online 3pm Tuesday anniversary luncheon was quiet not busy at all , music not to loud . Seated right away , friendly waiter didn't catch his name as we didn't see his name tag . He's was attentive we ordered as appetizer the W H I T E T R U F F L E GA R L I C B R E A D. For entree we order the Squid Ink Tonnarelli and that chicken Parmesan sandwich which was extremely salty I mean exaggerated salty couldn't even eat . Picked at it we told waiter he offered to make something else but at this point was too late disappointed and had too much of salty taste to try anything else : Dessert was Tiramisu which was courtesy of house since was our anniversary. Overall friendly staff but for $85+ bill food could if definitely been better .

Yelp
Well, they didn't bring the dessert we ordered for so long that we canceled the order. That, and it was way too expensive with a fat tip they added themselves. We won't be going back.

Yelp
I stopped going to North Italia after the quality seemed to have gone down over time but that was at the Del Mar location. I figured since most places are dependent on the staff/cooks, I would give it another try at a different location and this place cooked the way we fell in love with when first trying North Italia, I hope this was not some fluke but if I do crave North Italia, I would come to this location even though it's further away from my home. Noodles were cooked perfect al dente and staff was very attentive. Dishes were seasoned well (not over salted) and not overcooked either.

Yelp
Dined here with my friend last year. It's been awhile but I do remember how cute the restaurant was. Service and food were definitely on point. The pizzas were so good along with the spritzer that I ordered (I don't remember the drink name). It was quite refreshing. Pricing was decent. I've been meaning to go back. Maybe this year.

Yelp
The food is average but the decor and ambiance is great! - White Truffle Garlic Bread (5/5) - Squid Ink Tonnarelli (2/5) don't get this. It tastes like tomato and chili flakes with bland seafood and pasta - Seasonal Vegetable Salad (added salmon...cooked perfectly) (4/5) - Tuna Crudo (5/5) - Zucca Chips (3/5) - Brookie Sundae (1/5)
google avatar

Yelp
From the moment we walked in - the host staff were so friendly, so it wasn't a surprise that our waitress was as well. It was a fun, hip restaurant. Not overly loud. And tables weren't too close to your dining neighbor, so it was comfortable. The food was amazing. We ordered the heirloom tomatoes and burrata (5/5 ) and I ordered the ricotta cavatelli (4/5 ). It needed the sauce to be a bit thicker or bread to sop up the butter sauce. But was overall so delicious.
google avatar

Patrick K.

Yelp
Do not like the wait area, too much foot traffic for restaurant and mall. Server was helpful and friendly. The food was good, for the most part, prices are decent. The half chicken was juicy and soft, the pig pizza was spicy, and good, crust was alright. The scallops decent size and tasty, but never enough. Apps was calamari and the cheesy bread, we ate it all, so I would say good.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is amazing! It is busy so I highly suggest a reservation. Casual attire and kid friendly. Our server Mike was top notch. Very friendly, attentive, and made our experience very enjoyable. Started off with Prosciutto Bruschetta and their garlic bread - both are must haves! This bruschetta had asparagus and truffle on it which was a new take on the dish for me, however it was delicious! Chicken Parmesan and the Spicy Rigatoni for dinner also very tasty. In my opinion the Spicy Rigatoni was not very spicy so don't let the name deter you from trying. For dessert - Tiramisu - yummy, but I could have gone without the coco balls on top. They kind of went all over the place. Caramel custard - I can't remember what this was called so calling it a caramel custard. It was very similar to Flan. Husband really liked it. If you're in the area definitely check this place out!

Yelp
Delicious lunch at North Italia! The squid ink pasta is a highlight, rich and tender with shrimp and squid, a hint of spice, and sweet onions cooked to perfection. The spicy meatball pizza has a perfect char and bold flavors, making it a standout. And the charcuterie board? A beautiful selection of fine meats, cheeses, and accompaniments that adds a delightful touch to the meal. The staffs are very attentive and the restaurant has very nice ambiance. We had a big group. I called only 15 mins ahead to reserve, but we were lucky to get a nice table inside.

Yelp
North Italia has become one of our family favorites. From our experience the food has been delicious and we all order a variety of food. I ordered the Roasted Salmon and it was so good I forgot to take a picture of the before. My husband had the Parmesan chicken and he says so far it's his favorite. We had calamari as an appetizer and it was all great ! Even my picky 7 yr old eats it without a complaint. Our server was nice and for such a busy day (Mother's Day) the food came out at a good pace. Our biggest complaint is that we sat outside, our reservation was at 5:15 and the sun was hitting our faces, they could not bring down the awning because it was broken. As it got later, it's San Diego, our spring nights are chilly and fashion valley is windy. It was so cold, it really took away from our experience. We were rushing to finish because the cold was too much. It seems another family complained of the same and another server tried bringing the awning down but was told not to because it was broken. I understand it's a hazard but then people shouldn't be sat outside in that area if they aren't going to fix it. The server noticed our discomfort was apologetic and we were not charged for our deserts, we appreciate them acknowledging the problem. We will be back because the food is delicious but maybe we will proceed with caution if we are ever sat outside again. Note: They do have heaters outside but that was not enough to keep us warm from the wind.

Yelp
This establishment is located at the heart of FASHIN valley Mall so parking is plenty however, it tends to get very busy and crowded so it is recommended that you make reservations. So 4 of the 6 entrees come out and it took another 10 minutes before the rest came out. All the food should come out at once because what are we supposed to do, wait and let the food get cold or eat and do not wait for everyone else's food to come? The bathroom is a bit dirty as it is Friday and it was packed. If you have an establishment like this then it should be staffed properly and the restroom is a big one to take care of. Our waitress Bailey was very courteous and helpful as she attended our needs. The others who bussed out tables were not as they took a half glass of Martini and did not even ask if we were done, so that is a big no no. Appetizers: Calamari-nothing special, just like ordinary calamari. Italian Meat Ball-this was actually good and very tasty. We recommend it. The serving was only 3 and was a bit pricey for the amount. White truffle Garlic Bread-this is a special as everyone enjoyed it and we highly recommend this dish. Entree's: Braised Short Rib-meat is tender and tasty but overpriced. Maybe add a side to it then it would be worth for what you pay. Pork Milanese-of all the dishes we ordered this I would do again and recommend for anyone who dines here. Hot Honey & Smoked Proscuitto-simple overpriced thin crusted pizza. Strozzapreti-overpriced pasta. Roasted Salmon-good salmon and would recommend. This is a restaurant chain so do not expect the dining experience nor the food to be all that of a local Italian restaurant. There are better one's in San Diego. If you are looking for a more of an intimate place for dinner this is not the place to go as it is very hip and loud.

Yelp
Happy hour at North Italia was great. For drinks we started with the Negroni Rosa and New Italian Spritz. Negronis can be hit or miss for me, especially when they are too sweet but I loved their take on it with the gin! It was great. We also started with the grilled bread, which was solid. On the heavier side but delicious. For entrees I ordered the seasonal anolini which was a creamy mushroom and mushroom filled anolini (ravioli). Super rich but delicious. My wife ordered blistered tomato red sauce. Very refreshing. The service and ambiance were great. Very chill day and relaxing happy hour dinner.

Yelp
Everything was fine until 5 hours later when my girlfriend and I started having stomach pains after eating there. We ordered ZUCCA CHIPS MARGHERITA PIZZA A CESAR SALAD At 8pm of august 24

Yelp
This place was great! Loved the ambiance! While we waited, we ordered drinks from the bar, super nice and accommodating. Dinner, we ordered Spicy Rigatoni Vodka, Tuscan Kale Salad, and Margherita Pizza. It is all delicious, very good, and so fresh, especially the pasta. It was very flavorful. The dessert was yummy as well. Everything was just delicious! Our service was okay, the waiter was slow, and he forgot a few things, had to repeat it like 3 times. But overall it was really good!... I am vegetarian so everything I ordered was vegetarian.

Yelp
BLUF: Clamari (yes) Pig Pizza (yes) Butter Cake (yes!). We had din at the bar and all the bar tenders were consistently very good! Service was second to none here. We had the Calamari and it came with two sauces, a red pizza style sauce and an aoli style sauce. Both very good. The Pig Pizza was outstanding! We also had the small salads and that were fresh and tasty. We finished with the Butter Cake and ordered a small side of caramel on the side. Pure joy! Note to the managers here, add caramel to this dish. Trust me, it made a good desert VERY good! Enjoy!

Yelp
Always a great time here. Sit at the bar. Bartenders are engaging without being overly so. Meatballs are fantastic!

Yelp
For a chain restaurant the food quality is higher than average. Our takeout order included cheese pizza, truffle bread, and the salted caramel budino. The kid's cheese pizza was pretty basic, as much kid's meals are, but the sauce was very good and flavorful. Definitely not the canned stuff some businesses use. The truffle bread was good, but the smell of the truffle became overwhelming for me and I ended up eating all the bread. Remaining was the budino. I never had one before, but I was expecting the consistency of pudding. Once I tasted it, it was more similar to flan. The flavor of the salted caramel was good, but there was a strong undertone of alcohol that threw me off. I'm not sure if this is usual for the dessert, but I couldn't finish it. I believe the food is slightly better than average, but the price point compared to the portion size is also why this place only gets three stars. I'm sure they probably have other delicious dishes on their menu, but financially I don't have the flexibility or patience to spend more money on small portioned food I may not like from here.

Yelp
I happened to be nearby and thought I would try North Italia as it sounded good. Robert/Host took a few minutes to inquire what I like when I asked for his recommendation. I chose the Pesto, garlic bread and the Affogato for dessert. Laura, my waitress, was friendly and was sure to advise of things and offer the WiFi password when she saw my laptop. The Chicken Pesto was yummy. The Garlic Bread with the truffle oil and house made ricotta was also good. My dessert was ok. Maybe I would try something else next time.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was friendly. No reservation, walk-in even though they said wait was -45 min we were seated in -15min. They have wide variety of Italian food and place is modern and clean. Open concept with glass wall to see kitchen cooks. I recall we went to another one of their franchises in Phoenix or Scottsdale as their decor seems very familiar. Food was good as was their drinks. Plates range $25-$30, slightly more than other franchises but quality of food was good. Worth another visit.

Yelp
I really liked the spacious dog friendly patio , but unfortunately my dish, Strozzapreti was less than desirable. The parmesan cream sauce was bland, and the mushrooms were definitely overcooked, slimy and soggy. I couldn't continue eating the dish. The waiteress was very understanding and removed the item from the final bill. I also tried my brother's chicken parmesan, which was overcooked as well and dry. I don't usually eat at franchise restaurants, but it was Father's Day and someone else picked the restaurant. My father's Bolognese, the house specialty, was also bland, not memorable.

Yelp
North Italia is quickly becoming one of our favorite locations to dine. Not super fancy and not your fast food joint, a step up from your casual weekday meal. The first time we visited was in the summer to celebrate a birthday and everything was delicious. Bad thing... everything was delicious and I order with my eyes and stomach! So naturally, I ordered way too much to eat. Heres what we tried and absolutely love! Drinks: Overall, can't go wrong with any selection. Staff makes sure you like it! Certain ones they can make non-alcoholic. - Sangria: tasty, not too sweet or dry - Pomegranate mule: Both our favorite and this can be made virgin too. - Golden Fig old fashioned: Hubs enjoyed this. - Mojito: not your normal mojito. I'm usually not a fan of mojitos but this was light and delicious. Appetizers: - White truffle garlic bread: So yummy! This is decadent and filling! Beware! - Crispy calamari: like a calamari salad, calamari was not chewy or overly breaded. - Wild shrimp scampi: shrimp is well cooked and tender. Bread is a bit much but tasty when dipped in the scampi sauce. - Beef Carpaccio: Absolutely delicious! Perfect piled high in the crostini. One of my favorites. - Tuna Crudo: Light and tasty! This sells out quickly. We rarely are able to catch this for dinner. Another favorite. - Little Gem Caesar: Love this salad! Just enough dressing and no giant croutons. It's perfect. Main Entrees: - Spaghetti and meatballs: nothing extraordinary, standard comfort dish. - Short rib Cavatelli/Lumache: short rib dishes are cooked well and flavorful. - Chicken Parmesan: another standard comfort dish, very filling enough to share the large dish, chicken is not tough or dry. Dessert: - Bombolini: I was thinking beignet like, not quite. Still tasty. - Tiramisu: different take on tiramisu and I love it! All those crunchy little crisp chocolate balls...can I have a million more!?! I can eat this all day long! Great place for a casual dinner, date or birthday celebration! I typically reserve a table on Open Table to ensure I get the table I want at the time I'd like. It's fairly easily and no you don't have to book weeks in advance. 30 min to an hour of when I want to go. That's it. (And you get open table points, double win!) They have plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. I enjoy seating in both areas. Typically in a booth. Outside has a nice covered area so you get to enjoy being outside without having to melt in the direct sun. Parking can be a bit of a pain if you want to park upfront. Get there earlier in the evening to miss the dinner time rush. Enjoy!

Yelp
The food was extremely flavorful. I ordered the chicken pesto with gluten-free pasta and you couldn't tell the pasta was GF. My husband got the chicken Parmesan, great flavor but chicken was slightly dry -- still moist enough to be good though, especially paired with the delicious pasta. The service was excellent. We enjoyed the ambience. I got the seasonal butter cake, if I wouldn't have added ice cream, it would have been pretty dry- $7.50 for a scoop of gelato is a little expensive. The butter cake at CPK and Bay Park fish company is better so was disappointed.

Yelp
Had Caesar salad and scallops...scallops were super salty..,corn was mixed into the risotto, my mistake not reading the menu as I am not a fan of corn... would've been fine, but the scallops were the saltiest scallops I've ever had in my life, first time eating there, don't think I'll be back

Yelp
If you were looking for top-notch Italian fare, look no further. North Italia is the perfect place to enjoy a five-star meal after a long day of shopping at fashion valley mall. I didn't know what to expect, but was incredibly surprised at the quality and presentation of my meal. The fish was cooked to perfection. The drinks were beautiful, and the service was fantastic. the ambience is clean and modern and has an open kitchen. You can also belly up to the bar for some conversation at a cocktail. This will be my go to place when I am in Mission Valley. Plenty of parking out front.

Yelp
Wow! I found a new fav restaurant in MV! I usually avoid restaurants in and around mall areas because they can be very "big chain" like but North Italia was quite the opposite. I stopped by after a 10hr work day hoping for a late bite at the bar. Walking in, North Italia has an upscale, open space and awesome chill vibe. Music was even perfectly matched for the space. The bar extends out to an outdoor patio with seating throughout. I was greeted almost immediately after grabbing a seat and the bar duo was very attentive. Jordan? was super helpful in navigating the menu. The fig infused whistle pig old fashioned was 11/10! So good I ordered two. I kept it simple with the little gem Caesar and the spicy meatball pizza both 10/10 as well. Good pizza is so hard to find in SD and North Italia hit the mark. Excited to come back and try out the happy hour! Check this place out!

Yelp
I recently had lunch here with a group from work and I'll definitely be back- it blew me away! I love the bright and airy atmosphere and the staff were wonderful. The restaurant is in the Fashion Valley mall over by PF Chang's. There's a good amount of parking right there but during the holiday shopping season it might be a bit rough. I had the Spicy Rigatoni, which was phenomenal. I tried my friend's bolognese and that was delicious as well. For dessert we had espresso and tiramisu, which was an amazing way to end the meal. I can see this being a great place for group meals and celebrations, or a date night. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Delicious Chicken Pesto Pasta and Arugula Avocado Salad. The Jump Start special coffee was AWESOME. Logan was such a great server patient, easy going, communicative, accommodating. Colton brought us the Jump Start and gave good guidance. This was a perfect dinner for my wife and me today. We are very thankful.

Yelp
I've been to this location twice now but I've been to almost all the North Italia locations before. Now that I live in San Diego, this location, I've been visiting this location most frequently. I love all North Italia locations so I love this location as well. Everything is fast and smooth. I like that it's in a mall as well so you can shop while waiting for your table. Last visit we ordered the white truffle bread, squid ink pasta, and the rigatoni. Everything was delicious! Would be back!

Yelp
This is our go to spot when I have a shopping day with my girls. We love this location here in Mission Valley. It is attached to t her Mission Valley mall. Our server here was very friendly and attentive. It was a busy day but still had wonderful service and the food was delicious. We started out with Arancini and then had the Bolognese pasta Parmesan cream pasta. Everything was great!

Yelp
My group enjoyed a lovely dinner here. I called to make reservations for a party of 6 (3 adults and 3 kids) for 6:30pm on a Friday night. The place was packed when we arrived but our table was ready and beautifully set up. Service was excellent!!! Staff was mindful of the needs of the children, took their orders first and brought out bread (on the house) when we encountered a small delay. The food itself was amazing. We had the squid ink seafood pasta, calamari, beef carpaccio, strozzapreti, and pig pizza. Everything tasted super fresh and flavorful. Not a single complaint from all 3 hardcore adult foodies and that's not an easy feat. When you don't need to add any salt or pepper from the table, and everyone just stopped talking (including the kids) that's when you know you got yourself a solid dining experience.

Yelp
Visited North Italia a handful of times, experience has always been consistent. Easy to book via OpenTable ahead of time. We did a walk-in recently on a Sunday afternoon. There's a parking lot directly in front of North Italia, but it can be tough to find a spot during the weekend. The restaurant is really spacious with a bunch of seatings, but when it's packed, it's packed. Our party of 5 ordered a bunch to share. For starters + appetizers we got the wild shrimp scampi, white truffle bread, arugula + avocado, and the tuscan kale. For the mains we ordered the chicken pesto pasta, bolognese, funghi pizza and a hot honey pizza off their specials menu. We asked for the pastas to be split so it'd be easier to share + sample amongst the table without reaching over one another. We thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp scampi, truffle bread and tuscan kale. The arugula salad was a miss, and for a salad to include 'avocado' in the name, there was barely any. The chicken in the pesto pasta was a bit dry, but was plentiful. Bolognese was delicious. Funghi pizza was ok, I think it lacked some flavor. We typically love hot honey on pizza but we agreed that this version was too sweet. I think North Italia is a fine place to dine if you're already shopping @ Fashion Valley, but not something I'd go out of my way to try.

Yelp
Well mother daughter shopping and lunch day of course called for one of our favorite spots North Italia. Funny enough we discovered this spot in Phoenix years ago and it was our go to spot every time we went to visit because we loved it so much. Now we have had one in San Diego for a few years and it is always such a treat to go and enjoy. We always start with the zucca chips they just melt in your mouth and are an easy snack for start of your meal. We ended up sharing a pizza and Cesar salad for lunch this day and we made the pizza bomba style which comes with a dipping sauce for your pizza that was spicy and we both enjoyed it. This location is awesome too with lots of tables indoors and outdoors and a large bar area as well.

Yelp
I walked in for dinner on a Saturday night with my boyfriend and was told the wait would be about 45 minutes. However, if there is an open seat at the bar (which there was) we could seat there and get full menu items and drinks. We opted to do that since we didn't mind. We wanted a quick casual dining experience anyways. My advice is to probably make a reservation on weekends if you want a table though. Since it is located in fashion valley it can get quite packed. My boyfriend and I shared the squid ink pasta and calamari. The squid ink pasta was surprisingly spicy but it was a good kind of spice. The calamari batter was super crispy and overall we enjoyed our meal! I will say the only thing that surprised me was there was no free bread (most Italian places I go to give it for free as an appetizer) but it's ok. I wish they had a bit more selection on their menu for pasta. Maybe some more white sauce options? Again, I really enjoy my dining experience here and would love to come back and try some other options. North Italia is the perfect place to go if you want a casual date night however if you want more options I would say check out the restaurants in Little Italy since the menu here is kind of limited.

Yelp
One of the best happy hours in San Diego! They have happy hour 3-6pm Monday-Friday. My girlfriend and I came around 3:30pm on a Saturday Wednesday and there was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating in the bar/high top area where happy hour is served. We were immediately greeted as we took a seat at the outdoor bar and the service was phenomenal throughout the experience although only one gentleman was running the show. It became increasingly busy as the night progressed and he stayed on top of it! Wish I got his name to commend him. We ordered the chefs board and bottle of wine special. So worth it! I believe it's around $36 for both. We also got the margarita pizza and meatballs. All the food was so good! The Pinot Grigio house wine was also tasty. This place has a nice ambiance and is very affordable for California which is refreshing. I will definitely be back!
