The Best Barbecue Restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"Located just off Hiawatha on 38th Street, Northbound Smokehouse is serving a diverse menu of barbecue favorites, smokehouse sandwiches and award-winning apple wood-smoked jumbo chicken wings. Show up Friday through Sunday to score the weekend brisket, 1 pound of the smokehouse’s best barbecue effort. Don’t miss the patio, which was voted one of Minnesota’s best in 2024 by the Star Tribune. Orders can be placed online for takeout." - Eli Radtke

The Twin Cities’ Best Breweries With Outstanding Food | Eater Twin Cities

"Smoked food and good beer are the themes of this aptly named brewpub, where even the wings are smoked with apple wood. While there’s an eclectic mix of beer styles and food, the smoked trout and fish and chips stand out, and the Alaskan pollock battered with Northbound’s Pravy Pilsner is a must for Friday night fish fry — all perfectly flaky. For smoked flavors that mingle delicately with fat, salt, umami, all washed down with chocolatey smoked porter — a rare beer style in today’s beerscape — this is the place. Online ordering is available." - Louis Livingston-Garcia

The best restaurants and bars near Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis | Eater Twin Cities

"Fresh fish, 18-hour porketta and craft beer are all smoked in-house to perfection. The cozy interior has huge picture windows and hop vines shading the patio. The hand-cut fries are just the right amount of crisp, and between the sizeable selection of house and guest taps, there’s a beer on the menu to pair with any dish. This brewpub has friendly, fast service and outrageously flavorful food." - Eater Staff

Google
Seriously, this is the best patio in Minneapolis. Most of their food is made from scratch, even the sauces. The BBQ sauce is from another planet and the Buffalo sauce is my favorite in the city. If it’s your first time, get the porketta.

Jeff Bhend

Google
This is a Guy Fieri Diners, Drive-ins, Dives restaurant. He actually came here two different times. He and I both had the 18 Hour Porketta. Delicious, and so was their beer. Put this restaurant and Pub on your must do list. Enjoy…

Google
Cool place in a neighborhood setting in Minneapolis. Enjoyed a flight of their beers and some delicious chili dogs served with chips. People around me had BBQ and wings and everything looked delicious. Great fast service. Has a big outdoor seating area.

Google
Delicious meats!! So tender and juicy!! I enjoyed the porketta sandwich but would've liked much more meat than what was on the bun. Too much cheese and bread which got in the way of the meat taste. They didn't have any in house NA beer, so water it was. The poutine was good, definitely a share item. Word of caution: it's a smokehouse, you and your clothes will smell smoky (and greasy, oddly) if you dine indoors. On street parking only which isn't too horrible for the city.

Google
Fantastic Ruben sandwich and the Smokehouse Porter and Big Jim beer was great 👍 👌

Google
I had this place once before and don’t recall this being my previous experience. However this time I was disappointed to have paid almost $30 for what I got. The cheese curds were just okay and the burnt ends were pretty tough. Both were very small servings for the price in my opinion coming in at $12.50 and $16.50. Many places in the area have better quality and more reasonably portioned items that are similar that I’ll be choosing in the future instead.

Google
We came just after a big rainstorm, but they have a nice patio that was shaded. We got the brisket bowl and the brisket Ruben. The best patio of the bowl was the hush puppies and the brisket. I really wanted to love the smoked mushrooms but it was pretty meh. I also think I would have loved it more if the food was warmer than lukewarm. They should consider selling the hush puppies as a side or app. I’d go back just for them.

Google
Bachelorette party stopped here and sat outside in a cute shaded spot with privacy under the trees. Our server brought us slushi bombs, our cocktails and mocktails were fabulous. We’ve had many espresso cocktails in our day and these were some of the BEST they tasted like real espresso. The food was incredible we all gave it 5 stars. I had beet salad and they had brisket bowls and I also had the gin herbal drink . Highly recommend.

Yelp
Beer is more a four The food makes it a five star Just a cozy place Northbound is pretty unique, at least in Minnesota. They are a full fledged brewery, but they also have an in-house kitchen and a full bar. Forager in Rochester is the only other one that comes to mind with this trifecta. The beers at Northbound are solid, but I don't put them in the very upper echelon. The Anniversary Ale 2024 that I am sipping on now is fantastic. Love the food here. The Porketta, the Wild Rice Burger, the wings, etc. All awesome. Northbound really knows how to smoke some meat. I'm here pretty regularly. If I lived within walking distance, it would probably be weekly.

Yelp
We've travelled to almost every southern state and ate our way through their best BBQ along the way. This place most closely resembles the quality & technique of the southern states, with a northern twist. They are doing BBQ their way! We ordered the Alabama white sauce wings, and a platter. We also tried quite a few of their beers, including the award-winning Doppelbock. All of them were fantastic and no matter what your preferred style, I think you'll enjoy it! Everything was fall off the bone, extra saucy and tangy. Well developed flavors overall. When the meat is cooked right, it makes it easier to enjoy and experience their unique flavors. Although the wings are named "Alabama" white sauce, the flavor just makes sense in mayo and ranch loving MN! LOL. Creamy, unique, and delicious! Loved pairing everything with pickled things and bright slaw! Their house made pickles were nummy! Street parking, large tropical ambiance patio. Friendly service. I believe there was a single server holding down the whole place at one point and he was killing it!

Yelp
We really like Northbound Smokehouse! This was our second visit and we loved being able to bring our pup with us to their dog-friendly outdoor patio. The patio is a little bit on the smaller side, so just keep that in mind. The service is friendly and quick. The real reason you come here, though, is the amazing food. We got the burnt ends, brisket philly and hand-cut fries--all were great. In the past, we've had their bowls which are also delicious. Most of their cocktails are great, too! My wife enjoyed the Bacon & Smoke Old Fashioned and the Spanish G&T. It was a hot day so I tried the mojito slush and it was so-so.

Yelp
Most definitely my favorite wings in the city. My wife raves about the black bean burger and the beers are pretty good as well. I love that it's clearly a place with lots of regulars. It also has a great patio for the warmer months. I've never had a bad experience here. Just a hilarious one when a friend who had not been drinking made a lame joke to the waiter and was cut off after she thought he was too drunk :) we still give him crap for that several years later. But thats how long I have loved this place.
google avatar

Susan K.

Yelp
The interior is pretty stark but the food is delicious. No GF bread options if you like sandwiches but the bowls (pre-set or design your own) are always an options. Love that the bathrooms are unisex. Server was attentive but not pushing the most expensive menu items. Full bar as well as beers they brew. The Bloody Mary was tasty! I like mine a little spicy & it fit the bill!

Yelp
4.4* (out of 5) Food: 5* Atmosphere: 4* Value: 4* Service: 4* Would I go back / Recommend?: 5* (Definitely) Total check/person: $41 05/16/2024 My wife found this place while searching for places where "Guy had been" to meet her sister's family - and boy was it ever a gem! We had 10 in our group, so it was very difficult for them to arrange tables to accept our group inside - so we agreed to sit outside on the picnic tables. It was a bit chilly, but we made due given the circumstances. Beyond the historic brick building and great smokey smell as you walk up, their in-house craft beer and mocktail lists were impressive. We started with a round of their craft beers and since I always like to try multiple different beers, I went with a Flight (see picture). I was impressed with their craft beers as usually there are multiple that you wouldn't order again - but I found all except 1 to rate on the high end of my Untappd rating scale. My only disappointment was that the picnic table tops were extremely uneven - which caused all of the beers in the flight to tip over onto my son when I slid them across the table in their rack. A server came out to clean up and said that he usually warns people about that when they order...but no offer of even a discount on the refills. On to the best part of our visit - the food! We started with Smoked Wings (see picture) and were delighted with the flavor, tenderness and moistness of the chicken. For our main courses, we ordered the Reuben, 18 Hour Porketta and Smokestack sandwich - all with a side of fries (see pictures of each). My wife and I shared the Smokestack and as the cut-away picture shows, it is one large stack of different delicious smoked meats! As we usually do, we all shared samples from each dish and all of us really enjoyed all of them. Beyond the obvious and delicious smoked meats, I really enjoyed the home cut fries. As the pictures show, they had a good brown color on the outside, the seasoning was perfect and the ranch sauce was a great consistency for dipping! Exceptional smoked meats, scrumptious fries, and an extensive variety of quality in-house brewed beers make this a must-visit destination. Yelp
Finally tried out northbound smokehouse and it did not disappoint! They have both an indoor and outdoor seating area great for when weather permits! (Picnic tables outside on the patio) There are plenty of drink options from beer, cocktails, wines, to non alcoholic. I ordered the cider sidecar (7/10) and tried one of the IPAs (8/10) and thought both were pretty good. For food we got smoked wings (sweet and spicy 7/10) and cheese curds (8/10). For my main meal I got the brisket grilled cheese which was delicious! (9/10) Our server was very tentative and our food came out timely! I will be returning in the future!

Yelp
Great food, beer, and outdoor seating area. Nice value as well. Very happy to have it in the neighborhood!

Yelp
Food was good. Ordered BBQ chicken sandwich. It was tasty, but very messy. Fries were ok. Cheesy shells are super good! Service was good, but they're busy so we weren't visited too terribly often. Place is clean and a good vibe overall.

Yelp
Tasty. Fun atmosphere. Good drinks. Fast service. Chill dogs YUMMY AND you get your money's worth. I also liked the salad I chose to have rather than fries ( it was hard though fries yum). May come back one day.

Yelp
Saw that Northbound had restarted Sunday brunch recently. Decided to try it today. I got the corned beef hash, Doll got the egg sandwich. I always remeber they had pretty good food, both of these dishes were fantastic! Big tender chunks of corned beef with caramelized onions and potatoes and two over easy eggs over the top. Perfectly seasoned. Doll couldn't stop raving about her egg sandwich. Two thick slabs of brisket, eggs on toast with a swiss mornay sauce. Spoke to our waiter how delighted we were. He said that since they were just restarting their brunch service, they wanted to focus on a small menu and make it perfect. I would say they nailed the approach, can't wait to come back for their dinner menu.

Yelp
Looking for a place to unwind and enjoy some delicious food and drinks? Look no further than Northbound Smokehouse & Brewpub! This hidden gem has a beautiful outdoor patio seating area, perfect for a cold beer on a hot day. It's not just the ambiance that makes Northbound Smokehouse & Brewpub a must-visit spot - it's the friendly and knowledgeable staff who are always happy to chat about their in-house brewed beer. And speaking of beer, you won't want to miss out on their amazingly affordable happy hour pricing on their Northbound brewed beers, available from Sunday to Friday. One of the standout dishes is the Poutine. Trust me when I say this is a must-get item on the menu. The meaty gravy sauce is the perfect complement to the crispy fries, and you'll find yourself savoring every last bite. The white cheddar cheese curds were slightly melty from the gravy, which created that beautiful cheese pull between each bite. Another standout dish is the Northern Fried Chicken sandwich. The best part about this sandwich was how crunchy and well-seasoned the chicken breast was. I appreciate them putting the Dijon honey mustard on the side, but I wish they gave me more of the sauce so I could coat the sandwich in all that deliciousness. And don't sleep on the house salad, it was simple and yet so tasty. If you're not a fan of a vinaigrette dressing then you might want to skip this house salad and get chips or upgrade to hand-cut fries. My only complaint is that the chicken breast was a bit too thin that the meat was almost a bit dry for my liking. But even with that minor complaint, this sandwich is still a must-try. I would come back here in the future, it's a great spot for happy hour and there's plenty of seating indoor and outdoor!

Yelp
Really enjoyed dinner here on a Friday night! They were still pretty busy around 8pm on a Friday, just a short wait for a table. Enjoyed some cocktails and the bbq sampler platter, along with the fried fish and fries. All the meat is so smoky and delicious. Check them out.

Yelp
We decided to stop by here before a game at the college. They were busy even though it was late for lunch and early for dinner. We were seated and brought water and menus. Our waiter was friendly and efficient. We each ordered a beer my husband had an IPA and I had a chocolate raspberry stout. We ordered cheese curds for an appetizer. The breading was light and the cheese was melted nicely. The sauce was delicious. My husband had the Vegetarian Rueben with coleslaw and I had the Vegan bowl. I loved the smokiness of the mushrooms. The beets and pickled onions were also delicious. We got our food quickly. There is a glass window behind the bar where you can see the brewing tanks. There are mirrors on two walls of the seating area which give it a more spacious appearance. We saw a few more things on the menu we would like to try so we'll be back.

Yelp
First time there, on a Sunday afternoon. Burnt tips as appetizer could not have been drier. I ordered the 18-hour porketta as a bowl with rice, caramelized onions, and coleslaw. No flavor to any of it. The porketta was spindly and could essentially stand upright in the bowl it was so dry. Small portions and totally overpriced. (How could they be resting on their laurels already!?) Everything had to have been left over from the day (or days) before. And the person who had the nerve to throw this bile on a plate was a shameless idiot. The incessant flies were a nice touch. Do not recommend.

Yelp
Delicious! I had the bacon and smoke old fashioned and the Northshore Fish Platter. Tasty!
google avatar

Troy I.

Yelp
Nice area smokehouse. Would go back to try other options and drinks. My wife loved her Brisket Philly sandwich and daughter let me try the Knuckle sandwich with Wagyu beef (excellent). The Classic BBQ Platter is a great idea for a meal. Wished they had other BBQ sauce options - the hickory flavored sauce did not finish well. The ribs were great, chicken was moist, the porketta needed a different sauce and would not eat again. The coleslaw was good and pickled onions were a great touch. Could have used some butter with bread. Don't waste your money on $7 Mocktails. Good flavor but in an old fashion size glass with 2x2 ice cube. It's just simple syrup and you get 2-3 sips. Staff was great and friendly. Nice shaded outdoor seating.

Yelp
Nice brew and smokehouse with lots of outdoor sitting. Friendly service. Asked how the Ruben was and Tina stated it was her favorite. Fresh crisp side salad with a hot, delicious, Ruben that was amazing. Miaboch beer was great.

Super surprise. Picked it off Yelp...my go to source! It was great. Friendly staff. Great outdoor space. Nice indoor space. Good beer. Good food. Good service very friendly. Good prices. Great location. Gay friendly bakery across the street. Hmm propensity of male customers.

Yelp
I visited Northbound Brewpub for some bomb BBQ and beer. I got a flight and split the marvelous 18 hour smoked Porketta and the award winning buffalo smoked chicken wings with my partner in crime. Everything was fine too perfection and recommend making a stop here. Barrel Aged Block Heater: A barrel aged Barleywine aged in 10yr Eagle Rare and 14yr Elijah Craig bourbon barrels. Molasses and dark caramel with oak/vanilla. Slight bitterness, but definitely sweet leaning. One of the better barleywines I've had in a while. Bridge Hanger: A Belgian Dark Strong brewed all Belgian from the year to the Belgian Pale Malt to the Dark Belgian Candi Sugar. Caramel sweetness, dark dried fruit, and spicy phenols. Lovely beer! Pracy Pilsner: A Czech Pilsner brewed true to style with light bread malt and spicy hop. Bold, yet crisp, clean, and balanced. Rye Fieri: A Rye IPA brewed in collaboration with La Dona Cerveceria. Medium light in body, medium bitterness, and pleasant spicy rye flavor. _______

Yelp
This is the best Fish n Chips I have ever had. Such amazing food, wonderful staff and service. I will be going again. Everyone in our party loved their food. BBQ sampler, poutine, porchetta sandwich. All amazing

Yelp
This is a great spot if you have a crowd with several tastes. The food meets my expectations and their drink menu is great and wide. It's definitely a summer spot for me so I can sit outside.

Yelp
I can't believe we've never been here in the 11 years this place has been open. It just might be our new favorite brewery. Not only is it great food, all of the beers were excellent, and we tried quite a few (and we have a very high bar)! Our favorite was the Bridge Hanger, named after the movie Lost Boys (so of course, how could we resist?). The story that went with it was as good as the beer! The one sour note was the "Additional 6.4% added to all food purchases to support back of house staff". Dear Northbound: Please, please PLEASE understand how much your patrons HATE this practice. Everyone would MUCH rather see you mark all the food prices up 6.4%. But we so enjoyed our time, this one misstep was not enough to knock off a star. They have an incredible happy hour, which we stumbled into on a Sunday afternoon. I think all the beers were half priced or something crazy like that! We were going to get flights, but instead we shared regular sized beers for basically the same price as a Flight. Enjoying the last gasp of summer, we sat on their really cute patio, with loads of lovely plants under a hops-covered pagoda. We were having a late lunch, so we decided to split the Northshore fish platter and a side of fries, which turned out to be just the right amount of food. The fish platter was to die for!! Everything on it was interesting, delicious and perfectly executed. Smoked trout, smoked salmon cake, white fish dip, smoked pimento cheese spread, dill goat cheese, bread and butter pickles. Top it off with the really genuinely friendly and fast service from our server, and it made for a perfect experience. We can't wait to go back!

Yelp
GAHHHHH SOOOO MUCH GOODNESS. Atmosphere: This place was packed to the brim. Not a single seat open. And I completely understand why. They need to expand. They can't contain their awesomeness to such a small space. Food: These cheese curds are enigma. They have a texture that is so....melty? Tender? Fluffy? It almost had a donut texture on the outside breading. I don't know but they were magical. The burnt ends bowl was so well balanced. Just YES all the way around. Service: Our server was really friendly even though she was juggling tons of tables. But the second we needed a drink refill she was on it. This place is a gem.

Yelp
Looking for a place to have a brew and snack after a high school basketball tourney game and you find out not a lot of breweries are open on a Tuesday early afternoon. WTF? What do you do? You go to Yelp and search for breweries and find one that's open (with food!) about 4 blocks from where you are. Northbound Brewery was perfect. It was pouring rain and it was cozy and welcoming. We got a great booth/table on the window. Service was excellent. I opted for the Dopplebock. Loved the rich, smooth taste. Snacks were the jerk rub wings. So good and so steaming hot. I'm pretty sure I left the table with jerk rub in my teeth but it was worth it. Parking was as right in front. Twins preseason game was on. I would definitely like to come back on a nicer day as the patio looked very inviting. Great spur of the moment stop.

Yelp
Solid spot. Great food, nice ambience, quality service. Perfect place for a hot date or a little bromantic getaway with the boys. Honestly a good vibe all around for many occasions!

Yelp
We've been here twice on two separate vacations and truly can't wait to visit again next time. The service is helpful, friendly, and gracious. The ambience is pure Minnesota! The food is dynamite; love that fish plate and those crispy house fries! And the beer - so many choices, so refreshing, really a great pitstop for just about any interest you may have. Stop in, we certainly will.

Yelp
Stopped in a few afternoons one week. Each day the friendly brewer was there and the friendly and knowledegable AJ was slanging. Each beer had a perfect description and of course, was delicious!! As not a smoke beer fan, I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the Cigar Smoked Imperial Brown, Castro's Reserve!! I also really enjoyed All Them Apples, an apple mead braggot. Another style I'd never had. Then I opted for a good common beer, the Maibock. All were delicious!! Coupled with being able to chat beer with the brewer and just good beery conversation with AJ; made for a great afternoon!! I must have had my timing right, because there was only a few other patrons at tables, lunching. Thanks for great beer and wonderful conversation AJ and Andy, truly made for delightful afternoons!! Cheers!

Yelp
Being a BBQ guy I always enjoy trying local BBQ spots when I'm traveling for work. Saw this place had high ratings and figured I'd give it a try. The brisket as you can see while it was more than enough was dry, discolored and obviously reheated before being served to me. For a $50 meal, I'd expect something more fresh and at least smoked that same day. The sides, service and beer were all awesome but what I went there for unfortunately did not come close whatsoever to hitting the mark.

Yelp
I am visiting my daughter in Minneapolis and looks up dinner driveins and dives and this was on the list. We ate outside which was shaded and so inviting. We ordered the cornbread dippers with a maple Butter only downside not served hot. I got the beet salad with dill goat cheese. Omg delicious. My daughter got the blt and this place makes their own bacon. Nice choice when you are in Minneapolis

Yelp
Cute, neighborhood spot with great food, beer and a full bar. This is the place to go for a quality, delicious and hearty meal that will satisfy your hunger for tender, smokey and made with care food. I enjoyed it.

Sunny S.

Yelp
I live nearby and was excited to finally try Northbound. The ambiance and service were good. Hush puppies were delicious, and the meats were decent. However, some of the other items we ordered were completely inedible: Smoked mushrooms tasted like propane. Disgusting. Three of us had them in our dishes and all had the same reaction. Cooks should've tasted the batch before plating. Kids menu items: hot dog bun was stale and hard and hot dog was completely charred. Mac n cheese tasted several days old and reheated. We went on a Monday night, so maybe the more inexperienced cooks were in the kitchen. I understand that maybe not many kids menu items are purchased here, but if you are going to offer different items on the kids menu than the regular menu, make them fresh or otherwise just do smaller portions of the regular items. Seems like a great place, but they hired a cook or two that has zero pride in what they are making and doesn't care about the customers.

L H.

Yelp
Let me start off with the fact that I usually take what I get when eating out, even my friends and family were surprised I said something. The burger I ordered was charbroiled, even though when asked how I wanted it, I said medium- pink in middle. I asked for a new one and it wasn't much better, they also left off some of the toppings I asked for. I expected a thicker burger but this was as thin as a fast food burger. With it that thin why ask how a person wants it? Not to mention when they did bring it back half my fries were gone and what was left was dried out. The server wasn't happy when I showed her the charbroiled one and wasn't very nice after that. I wasn't going to keep sending these back as everyone else at the table had already finished their meal by the time I received a new burger. I asked those with me how their meal was which they said wasn't the best they've had. I was really upset as we looked forward to the you g a new spot in our area.

Yelp
We visited Northbound Smokehouse today and were underwhelmed. The food was just okay, but the experience was marred by several issues. The cheese curds were mostly burned, making them unpleasant to eat. Additionally, there was no dessert menu, which felt like a major letdown. The water was served tepid, not the refreshing cold you'd expect. The waiter was absent for long periods, leaving us unattended, and the noise level was quite high, making it hard to enjoy our meal. Overall, not impressed. Rating: 2/5.

Yelp
Great service and food. I didn't try the beer but the food was great. I enjoyed the raspberry tea. I recommend the brisket sandwich. It's very soft. The portions are generous. No one in my party were able to finish their fries. They had ample outdoor seating. I love the lights they had.

Yelp
There's a rumor that Guy Fieri will be coming back for DDD and I also wanted to be one of the cool kids in-the-know before that happened. So my wife and I met up with friends for some food and merriment. With award winning beers brewed right on site and two industrial smokers, there's not much on the menu that's not right up my alley. The two beers I enjoyed with dinner were the Big Jim, a very hop-forward IPA at 7.2% ABV, and the Granola Girl, a creamy, earthy, and toasty ale. Both were outstanding and complimented our pub grub nicely. What we ordered: Cuban Reuben ~ House-cured ham, smoked corned beef, homemade pickles, smoked Swiss, and an ale mustard on marble rye. **the large amounts of smoked corned beef in this is dynamite! This thing is certified Nicki Minaj Thicc! I love a good Reuben and love a good Cubano so this sandwich was made for me!** Northbound BLT ~ quarter pound of house-cured and smoked Duroc bacon on toasted white bread, and locally sourced bibb lettuce, tomatoes and mayo. **I'm super glad my wife ordered this cause I knew I needed a bite! The house smoked bacon is perfect for a BLT -- thick-cut and perfectly smoked and salty.**

Great service. Good beer selection. Good food. Meat was just a little dry but flavorful. Fish and chips top notch!

Yelp
We got the BBQ platter and everything about it tasted off, the flavors were so far from classic BBQ.

Yelp
Super small portions and drastically overpriced for mediocre food. Won't be going there anytime soon.

Yelp
Lunch spot picked for smoked BBQ and beer selection did not disappoint! Trying beers is always best when flights are offered, and I came away with a few happy tastebuds The classic BBQ platter was perfect for me to sample dry rub ribs and porketta and chicken. Moist and flavorful. Highly recommend for casual dining (we sat outside under pergola) that is dog friendly.

Yelp
Great cheese curds! Crispy on the outside and the curd is perfect on the inside. Also the bowl was really good, but maybe a little less filling if you're looking for a meat heavy dish. The outdoor seating was great!

Yelp
Northbound is one of those places where it doesn't really matter what you order because you will most likely really really really like what you got. Just close your eyes and pick something off the menu. For those of you who aren't quite convinced, this is what we ordered and loved. Northbound is known for having some of the best wings in the Twin Cities. We went with the dry rub - jerk rub. Absolutely loved it! It's a really sweet but also carries some kick and spice. Their wings are crispy and smokey. I would absolutely recommend the wings, especially if you are with a group of people. It's a great appetizer but can also serve as your entree. Our friends ordered the poutine. They loved it and really enjoyed the gravy. For our entree, my husband and I decided to split something and we just could not quite agree on what we were in the mood for. We decided on the Northshore Fish Platter and were fighting over the goat cheese that came with! We really enjoyed it and it was really filling. Pro tip - ask for extra crackers. Our friends got the BBQ pork chicken sandwich with a side of shells and cheese - the sandwich basically disappeared before I got to ask about it (probably a good sign to order it!). Our other friend got the trout bowl which she really enjoyed. What I really love about Northbound is that they have a lot of options (BBQ, fish, vegetarian) smokey options to pick from so everyone in your group is going to find something that they will enjoy. As far as drinks, they offer wine, cocktails, and beer. We had an assortment of all of the above and we were all happy with our choices. Service was great! Our server was amazing and remembered everything we ordered without writing it all down? Quite talented! Street parking available and easy to find for us on a Saturday afternoon.

Yelp
Great food, friendly service, great space and patio. I personally like bowls so I can have meat, veggies, and rice, so that was a win too

Yelp
Always a good time, great beer and smoked wings. What else can a person ask for? Great Tuesday happy hour, too.

Yelp
So disappointed! Ambiance is great, it's a super cute place, but I can't remember a time we've had service this bad in Minneapolis. Took her about 20 minutes to take our drink order then another hour to get food for two people. Server didn't say more than 5 words to us at a time until we were paying the bill. Normally we're chill but this was baffling! Food is super mid - chicken sandwich is good if you like breading, fries were cold, and the shells & cheese were giving nursing home cafeteria - and for $100... it's a no from me. Hopefully you have a different experience!

Yelp
I've been a long-time fan of Northbound - they've got great beer (and cocktails), delicious food, and the service has always been friendly and fast! If you're looking for a solid neighborhood restaurant/bar with great meat selection and a solid beer selection, look no further! Northbound is a locally owned/operated brewpub with a relaxed environment, a variety of food options, and a variety of beers and cocktails. While the burgers are solid and the meats are always delicious, I recommend the Cuban Ruban! It's the Northbound spin on a traditional Ruben with hickory smoked ham and corned beef. The Smokehouse Porter is also one of my favorite local Porters, if you like dark beer. If you haven't checked it out yet - give Northbound a visit, you'll be happy you did!

Yelp
Finger lickin good! Loved the Mpls Mule since I have been on a Moscow Mule kick. So that was a great experience back in 2015. I've been here since, but only a few times for drinks and appetizers. Think I like the wings. However, we ordered three pounds of smoked, pulled turkey and a quart of gravy for Thanksgiving dinner in 2022. My boyfriend sent the email to the catering email address, per a Facebook event regarding ordering holiday food the Friday before Thanksgiving that was a to be picked up a day before the holiday. I called to confirm that the order was going to happen (the day we were supposed to pick it up), but they hadn't received either the original request for our Thanksgiving main dish *TURKEY* - nor the one he sent 4 days later after not having heard back with a confirmation. After a few phone calls today, they agreed to hold our order until I could get there to pick it up. I got there and it wasn't even busy. He said he looked for the emails from my boyfriend and again said he hadn't seen either of them. I told him I was happy that we at least were going to have food to serve the next day! I paid for the food and didn't tip him because of the debacle, of which he responded passive aggressively by not grabbing the bag of our food when it was set on the other side of the bar. I had to walk around, look at the ticket, and grab it myself. I walked out NOT happy...and THEN I opened the pan and the turkey is not even pulled. Pretty sad. I won't rely on them for an event again.
