"A dumpling list in Atlanta couldn’t exist without this Buford Highway restaurant, and for good reason. The dumpling-heavy menu here features everything from baskets full of warm and savory soup dumplings to pork and fennel-filled fried dumplings. Try the pork and chive steamed dumplings or pork, shrimp, and chive fried dumplings, too. Don’t skip the Chinese crepes with crullers at breakfast or the cumin lamb, Mandarin pork belly and glass noodles, and chong ching spicy chicken. You can also order frozen dumplings to take home. "Northern China Eatery is tucked away behind an eyewear store, but you’ll spot it once you clock the red awning and the line that stretches out the door during dinner. The place is small-ish and seating is limited, so you might end up sharing a roundtable with some strangers. Don’t worry about awkward conversation though—everyone is too busy devouring family-style Chinese dishes like giant bowls of housemade noodles and saucy stir-fried meats. "Though hidden beneath a Buford Highway eyeglass store, Northern China Eatery doesn’t need much signage because a crowd waiting outside the door will point the way. This is the place to go for family-style Chinese. And that's why it has a special place in our hearts, as we've had many get-togethers here, sharing dumplings, noodles, and entrees. Order what they call the Mix Dumplings on the menu—any three varieties so you can try a little of each. For entrees, we love the Spicy Griddle Fish, which consists of large chunks of battered fish, sliced lotus root, and other starchy veggies piled on a large platter.
