Northern Sun Winery and Vineyards

We had a great time today with Emily. What a hidden gem of a winery. Left with a handful of various wines to take back to central Wisconsin. We will make this a regular stop when visiting Island. Thank you, Emily, for making our visit so enjoyable.

We stayed as harvest host members here. We did a wine tasting and enjoyed all of them Mary poured. We liked that they grow all the grapes used, right on their property

What a beautiful location with an outside wine tasting area where you are surrounded by the vineyard. Melissa explained to us how they are an estate vineyard and all of their varieties are grown there. All the wines are made there as well. My husband and I tasted six or seven of the different wines before choosing to purchase quite a few bottles to take on our travels with us. Highly recommend this sweet vineyard. Also if you are familiar with the harvest host program, know that they are members of that as well.

Melissa was very accommodating and we enjoyed camping overnight at this lovely vineyard through Harvest Hosts. The vineyard is gorgeous and the tasting room is so charming. The wine is tasty and definitely recommend this little jewel tucked away down a quaint country road!

I LOVE this place, everything from the wine, the view, the staff, and owners. I wasn't much of a wine drinker but I fell in love with just about their whole line up of wines. My favorite of the whites is Ragazza Di Sole. My favorite from the reds is Pater Familias. The Rubarb is also a must try. All the grapes are grow and processed right on the vineyard.

Northern Sun is a beautiful estate with some nicely made wines using native varietals. It's west of Escanaba, and out in the countryside. The first time we went, we parked our car and were greeted by this big white dog. He started barking at us, and lead us right to the front door of the tasting room. Talk about service! They have a beautiful vine gazebo to sit and overlook the vineyard in, or sit inside the building and taste away. If you're in Escanaba, take a short trip outside town and check them out.

I rarely post reviews but I must for this one! I had the best experience at this winery, perhaps the best in all of Michigan so far. The wine is amazingly flavorful, the atmosphere is welcoming and cozy, and they have the friendliest dog outside! Highly recommend for any wine lover. Even bought 3 bottles all for myself to enjoy later!

Nice hidden gem. Wines made from hybrids and very nice. Kudos to the vitner! Pretty setting. Definitely will stop by when next in the area. Come taste for yourself and enjoy sipping a glass outside under the Nothern Sun.

We tasted seven wines and enjoyed them all! The setting was breathtaking, the service was top notch, and the wine was delicious. I couldn't have asked for more! Definitely worth a stop.

A little hidden gem. Compared to most wineries in the Travere city area, Northern Sun had superior wine!

This is a wonderful stop for wine tasting local varietals and leaving with some bottles for later. The owners are so friendly and Smitty the winery dog is lovely! You can sit outside and enjoy a bottle with some cheese and chocolate surrounded by the property's grapevines. It's a beautiful property- peaceful and green. There's a football to throw around for your younger family members as you taste and enjoy. I highly recommend this stop if you are in the UP. You will recharge and drink some lovely wine. All the grapes are grown on the property! And the dog is a local, too!

This winery was just MAGICAL. We did a wine tasting outside on a perfect summer day. There was live music, and a pen of horses grazing! They grow all of their grapes on the property, and the view is just gorgeous. The wines were really good too! After our tasting, I ended up getting a glass of the rosé and my boyfriend got a glass of the Brianna, and we got a bottle of a white wine that I think was called Ragazzo di Sole to take home with us. The inside of the place is TINY and maaaybe seats up to four people, but going on a beautiful summer day was definitely an amazing experience!

My mom and I were Lucky enough to visit Northern Sun Winery as one of our stops on an American Queen Voyage shore excursion. Peggy, who works part-time at Northern Sun, was one of our tour guides and she was a great representation of this Lovely vineyard and winery and also an amiable guide and companion for the afternoon. She introduced us to the owners, Wendy and Melissa, who make their own wine. We sampled three different wines of our choosing (with nice pours!) and all three were so Wonderful. My favorites were the Apple, Rose, and Brianna wines, each different and special in their own way. We could see that the grounds of the vineyard must be very nice in the growing season (it was still very cold during our visit, so the vines were not yet in bloom). The small winery itself is also very warm and appealing and is filled with gift items to peruse while tasting the Delicious wine.

Very tasty wines, very friendly staff, beautiful views and the sweetest dog in the Upper Peninsula! Worth a stop as long as you have room in your car for all the wine you're going to want to take home with you!

What a treat! Although the Upper Peninsula is not known as wine country, this place is delightful. We enjoyed sipping unique wines while relaxing in the exquisite gardens. It is a fabulous way to spend an afternoon off the beaten path.

We strongly recommend this winery! We were visiting the UP for the first time and we were so glad we visited Northern Sun Winery. This stop was definitely one of the highlights of our trip! Being from the Midwest we were expecting a selection of mostly sweet and fruit wines, but the reds we tried were a drier red that we prefer. We can't decide whether the award winning Marquette or Sole Di Sera was our favorite, so we got a few bottles to go. Other than the wines the setting is BEAUTIFUL and storybook-like. On top of all of that our service was out of this world. Peggy made our experience unforgettable. She was a knowledgeable host, funny, and friendly. She even gave us great recommendations that we took advantage of the rest of our stay. We hope to return next time we're in the UP! THANKS PEGGY!
