"Located on the edge of the Bergse Bos forest, with a romantic terrace and a pontoon on the River Rotte to the front, and a cosy, luxurious atmosphere inside, Nova is a really wonderful establishment! Your elegant hostess extends a warm welcome, and chef Vaandrager proposes an appealing menu. His contemporary dishes combine playful ideas with impressive culinary expertise. Whether preparing a salade niçoise with mi-cuit tuna or giving pink-roasted lamb a southern twist with a ratatouille garnish, he puts the focus firmly on bold flavours – and all at excellent value for money. Don't miss the chance to take a boat trip on the Rotte, perhaps with some snacks. You won't be disappointed!" - Michelin Inspector

The professor was very rude at me and giving me that bad attitude and he told the class what to do. Mrs. Burklew is my mother and there was one student who was sleeping during class time while she was teaching the class. That's zero respect for any of the staff at the Anna Dale campus. The students are very nice. I highly recommend not going to the class. I tried to sign up for duall enrollment but I called them and they didn't answer the phone but it goes straight to voicemail which is very frustrating to me. Please don't go to this college anymore and try not to contact them.

I had a great experience there. Professors are professional and very criative on activities. I got classmates from all over the world, from countries that I didn't even know it existed. It did not just gave knowledge, it changed me in so many ways, it changed my life forever.

Most people on the reviews are unhappy about the school's tuition prices. I honestly don't have much knowledge about price within the U.S higher education system (was on a full financial aid) but, apart from the price topic NOVA is a great school! First the quality of education is top notch. Second almost all the professors and advisors I've worked with were very supportive and caring for students' success. Third as long as you made the most use of them NOVA's got plenty of free and available state of the art high quality resources to help students succeed and have a great college experience. Library, tutoring centers, labs, open computer labs, student life, clubs, bookstores, cafes, lounges, etc, and even internship career connections! On top of all that you get to transfer to any four year college of your choice while holding an associate degree or some certificate which comes as beneficial for your internship or part time job. NOVA's campus environment and physical area is equivalent to a university. It's a wonderful school for a community college! SN: It's the second largest and one of the top community colleges in the country.

Don't Take Mrs. Sexton for English 101 and Don't take Mrs.K. because they not good at communicating nor do they follow their own Sybil's and don't ask the information desk for information ask classmates or friends for example about the shuttle etc.

NOVA seems determined to make it difficult for me to become a student. As someone new to college, I've called multiple times seeking help with my degree and how to get started. Each time, the advisors insist I need to come in person, and when I explain that I work full-time and can't do that, they tell me they can't assist over the phone. It’s frustrating that phone assistance is even an option if they’re unable or unwilling to provide real help this way. At this point, without starting all over with another college, I have to start at the end of January with NOVA. I will transfer to another college ASAP.

*** This is my second attempt at writing a review on NOVA as they removed the last one. They are deleting my negative review that warns underprivileged families of their severe inadequacies, and this should concern anyone looking to attend this school. The public college should be more concerned about the welfare of their students rather than their public image. I will continue writing this review should they remove additional attempts. If this behavior continues, I will be contacting state and local authorities. *** It is my partner's third semester attending Northern Virginia Community College, and each year, the school takes exponentially longer to disperse financial aid. We are nearly half way through the semester, and he still has not received the funds he was awarded. He now needs to find part-time work in order to survive because the school is incompetent to disperse funds during the beginning of the semester. Students should not have to worry about securing funds for housing and food while receiving higher education. This is a complete failure, and anyone responsible should be reprimanded and/or fired for their gross incompetence.

Nova campus police doesn’t protect student and will charge you with bogus charges after you were the victim of an assault Interesting nova campus police turned off their reviews

Google
Northern Virginia Community College, a.k.a. NOVA, is one of the best great college for students who want to save tuition. Plus, they can have more time to think their appropriate major in here. For foreign students, NOVA’s ESL program is very well organized and popular so that you can experience the ethnic diversity in here.

Yelp
Most of my associates degree classes were here. Sure I took a couple classes at Manassas and Woodbridge. Yet by and large most of my education there was here. Parking is a headache. Be sure to get your car registered, or park in a visitors spot and pay it. If not expect agony. Yet I'd like to focus on this campus, as I spent some time rediscovering where I went when I had hair. There have been a lot of changes, but much is the same. Friendly easy going campus, and the pond out front is as pretty as ever. What I liked about this and all campuses of NVCC, is that your professors had real world experience. They weren't some frumpy tenured person, who enjoyed adding their brilliance to the new expensive class book. Here most of my instructors were assistant FBI directors, or high up in public safety agencies. They taught so you'd learn and remember, as while test taking can be important, retention is the best indicator of an education. Have gone to other schools, but this one is a friendly place for all to learn. Am a big supporter of this and other community colleges.

Yelp
I never take the time to write reviews, but IF YOU ARE A VETERAN PLEASE FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE. The military service department is absolutely terrible. The communication is seriously lacking, you can expect to receive one reply a week and they are never in the office. They also do not know what they are talking about and every employee will tell you something different about your benefits.

Tristan N.

Yelp
Advisors recommend wrong classes for students, financial aid doesn't understand how grants work. Staff is rude, some phone calls aren't registered to get help for problems. Overall a useless school with useless workers.
google avatar

Lilia G.

Yelp
Everyone at NVCC has been beyond kind and helpful toward me today in getting me registered for my class. Thank you so much! Exceptional school with very caring staff and an amazing help desk- thank you so much to Jeremy for calling me and walking me through registering for the class, and to the gentleman I spoke with at the help desk who wrote the help desk ticket and welcomed me back to NOVA. And thanks to the caring woman I spoke with initially who transferred me to the help desk. NVCC hires incredible employees. They care about their students and take pride in their work. I am humbled and so blessed to be an NVCC student.

Yelp
I signed up for summer 2021 classes. had an appointment for the advisor to schedule classes and they forgot about my appointment! very unprofessional!! And on top of that even after getting financial aide and a pell grant they never applied it for this semester and never released it so i could NOT get all the books needed for the classes! Financial aide department is a laughing stock!!!! If you want to have all your time wasted with ZERO SUPPORT from this trash school then by all means go here! lol What a joke this place is!!!

Yelp
Clean rooms, friendly staffs, great events, massive parking lot, etc... I went there to see a ballet show 'Nutcracker!' The concert room is much smaller than I thought. There were many cute local dancers. They have four different shows next year. So I'll go back there again soon;)

Yelp
Let's just say this place left me a really bad impression. I registered for summer classes here for transfer credit to another university. Since the courses I wanted to take had prerequisites, I had to go see a counselor to show my transcript from my university. I came in around 3pm on a Wednesday and I had to wait an hour to see a counselor. When I finally did meet with one, she was so rude and condescending. She barely looked at my official transcript and said I needed to go see someone else, because "it wasn't in her interest." I tried to schedule a follow up appointment with her to talk about sending an official transcript over to my university and she was like "even if you don't come, I still get paid." Way to treat your students. If you hate your job so much, then why are you there? She then proceeded to refer me to person in charge of class registration--who retired two years ago. I didn't even know until I went to the office she referred me to told me that. So another trip to the counselor's office. This time, I met up with another counselor. She was actually really sweet and helpful. She referred me to the department in charge of the class I wanted to take. Summer classes here tend to be fast paced due to the course length--mine was about 6 weeks. The professor I took was actually pretty bad at teaching and there was little interaction in the class. It was 3 hours of full on lecturing. He didn't even encourage class discussions. Whereas at my university, students would have some time to work on class worksheets and the like. Good thing though was that he was available often for office hours. The class was just poorly structured and grading shouldn't just be based off of exams. I also took an online class and let's just say that was a hot mess. They don't provide lecture videos or anything. Just straight up textbook reading FOR A MATH COURSE. The professor was rarely present; it was mostly an independent course where you had to do things yourself. I tried to attend one of his office hours, only to find out that he changed his hours. I felt like I wasted $900 and didn't really learn anything valuable out of that course. If you're a student looking to transfer credit to another university, I'd recommend going to Mason instead. The professors actually care and put in the effort in their classes. You definitely won't be wasting your money and dealing with crabby counselors who hate their jobs. There are also better online courses if you search hard enough. Penn State offered the same online math course as NOVA and it was so much better structured. The professor had his office hours available ONLINE, included his own lecture videos, and had so many resources available for help. Don't waste your time or money when there are better options.

Yelp
I was raised Buddhist, a faith where the concept of a "God" in the monotheistic sense is quite blurred. But I will make an exception here to say GOD bless NVCC. From 8 years ago up until 6 years ago, when I transferred to a 4 year university, I was a student at NVCC. At the time, all I could hope for was to leave and join my former high school contemporaries in living it up at university. All these years later, it has been over a year since I graduated from university and I REGRET having not taken more classes and being comfortable being at NVCC. Please, there is no shame in attending NVCC, it's a brilliant choice especially for your wallet and getting your undergrad credits completed.

Yelp
Student services was wonderful. Went it and got to see everyone we needed to see without having to go anywhere. They were just doors away to each other. Wait to see someone was little over 5 minutes and everyone we talked to were genuine about information and transferring.

Yelp
I've done multiple classes here at the Annandale campus and there isn't much I can complain about. The classes are affordable and comparable to what you see at other schools (I've been to both kinds of schools so I can compare). Most of the teachers work at George Mason so the quality is pretty good content wise. I think with community college classes you get what you put in to it in effort and time, try your best and it will be an enjoyable experience.

Yelp
In the last 20 years, out of all the different schools I've been to, NOVA - Annandale has been my best experience! The administration team is awesome and organized. I felt like I was treated much like an individual and the service from sign-up to my awarded degree was felt on a personal level. When I needed answers and a route to be guided through, admin definitely was there for me helping me obtain all personal and academic goals. The professors are wonderful...they care! Happy studying!

Yelp
I attended a meeting in the Mark Warner building. The meeting was in a lecture room. I was impressed by the modern facility. They have modern audio-visual displays. The room had stadium seating with comfortable chairs. This review is simply for the facility (not the education program).

Yelp
If I knew any better, I would've gone to NOVA after graduating from high school. Nope, I decided to spend thousands of dollars at a private college in Philadelphia. When I decided to change majors from Fashion Design to Management, I moved back to DC and took some general courses at NOVA. At NOVA, there is little to no social life. It's a two-year college with no dormitories, after all. I did make some friends, but not many. Whatever, I didn't go to NOVA to party (or any school for that matter). I really adored my professors. They were knowledgeable and personable. Many have been teaching for decades or they've taught at four-year institutions. There will always be "duds", but NOVA is known to be one of the best community colleges in the country. I believe it. There is so much negative stigma associated with community colleges. They deserve much more credit. NOVA is a smart choice for high school graduates. The classes are much less expensive, and they can be transferred to your future four-year college (make sure they can). Plus, you'll have more time to decide which major to pursue (instead of diving right in like I did). In the end, you'll get the same degree from your four-year college regardless of where the first two years were spent.

Yelp
Community college. Hm. Well, it ain't the worst thing to happen to me. But it ain't far behind. I did night classes at the alexandria campus. My teachers were absolutely terrible. One didn't speak German, and the other was trying to teach us the about why Hitler wasn't "so bad." What an... experience? :| Now I'm taking a drawing class for my degree back home at this campus in annandale and my teacher is an imbecile. She wears extremely unprofessional clothes including seethrough shirts with her bathing suit top underneath. She's probably in her 40s. Do I NEED to see that? No. I could go on and on. (I do have a teacher in my class who teaches ESL and is very kind. I can't judge her as a teacher but I'm sure she's wonderful. ) The campus is really nice. Even with construction it's nice. The parking permit is stupid. 75 bucks for one car? On top of tuition? I'm not against community college. It might be great for people who are just there to take a class or two and not learn a thing. I on the otherhand come to learn and I expect my teacher to challenge me and not give me the same assignments as level 1 gets. If you want to be challenged go to a university. That's all I've learned from MY experiences.
google avatar

Brandon K.

Yelp
I think that this campus location is pretty good in terms of location and size. It's definitely large and expansive, and has plenty of parking (a garage and a huge lot). The professors here seem a bit too casual in my opinion, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Taytay W.

Yelp
If I could give a negative star review I would. I originally sign up for classes, that I completely forgot about since the Coronavirus Pandemic furloughed me from my job. I didn't know I was still in the class until someone from the business office contacted me about a payment. Typically the college would drop you automatically from the course If not paid, but I guess this time they are money hungry. They redirected me to a link with student refund and the link has scenarios of what would contest as a refund. "Financial Hardship" was one I thought would put me in that category and "National Emergency" ( Mitchell told me that neither one consider hardship nor a national emergency, I gave them proof)... I am very upset I waited a month and half for someone to contact me, just for them to say I have to pay 1400 for a class that I never attended (or be sent to collections) and I have to wait till next year to take a specific class because of the hold and the lack of response. Thank you Northern Virginia Community College I will never take a class at your facility again. Taylor W

Yelp
The teachers working at NVCC in Annandale campus when I attended back in the late eights and early nineties were incredible college professors. NVCC professors make learning fun! The General Studies Associates Degree program was an interesting degree program for those who have multiple interests. I highly recommend community college.
google avatar

christine c.

Yelp
The education you get is comparable to universities in the area. Many of the instructors at NVCC teach classes at George Mason and other nearby universities. The work is just as hard, if not harder. You will learn plenty and it will be challenging. You'll definitely be ready to advance yourself further. Why not 5***** ? Well, I think NVCC is quite pricey for a community college. DON'T count on counselors or advisors--if you dont get the run around or wrong information to begin with. That mistake can cost you extra time (at least 1-2 semesters) and extra money (couple thousands).
google avatar

Ruby V.

Yelp
This was my favorite campus: Not too far, had a variety of classes with more times and the parking is great. I have met some cool people that I still talk to despite community college not being 'a cool social scene'. I like the way the campus is laid out. The buildings are big and spacious. I still come here even though I graduated years ago because parking is free at certain times and it's a great place to study. The only downside is that the advisors are so so, you find out more by looking up information on your own. Take advantage of college/university fairs because advisors from other schools will be there to help you out. For the transfer process to be smooth, talk to an advisor of the school you want to transfer to.
google avatar

Garry K.

Yelp
This school (all campuses, including ELI - online) has potential since the classes are offered at a great value. The problem is, this school has many teachers that are just collecting a paycheck, and providing the bare minimum in instruction. Also, the administration is not interested in doing a damn thing about it. That means, do yourself a favor and look up EVERY SINGLE TEACHER FOR EVERY CLASS you take here at http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ . There are many good teachers that you should take classes from. Avoid the bad ones like a plague, and maybe the administration will take a hint.
google avatar

Brina T.

Yelp
This is one of the largest Community Colleges of Virginia with multiple campuses and a variety of classes. The classes bring me back to high school and the price for them beat the ones I take at VCU.
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
I had been approved for financial aid so I took a semester before transferring only for them to ask me for verification at the end of the semester and then tell me I was ineligible for aid and I must pay everything back for that semester. My fafsa application was completed ahead of time and when I called the financial aid office they told me they awarded me "too much" and so I must pay it all back in full or I get sent to collections. When I asked them for a payment plan they said payment plans are only available during the semester and now on past due balances. So they lied and told me I had aid throughout the whole semester only to then adjust it at the end, once the classes were taken and credits were received, and have me pay back in full. If you're a college struggling student with a part time job, you're obviously going to have problems paying back $5K+ instead of asking me to verify my aid before I took the courses they asked me to verify it after. They were the ones who awarded me the aid only to then take it back, coincidentally, when I am no longer going to attend their school.

Yelp
I live for this location. It's one hundred time better than the campus at Alexandria. I love the parking garage for daily use. And the overall facilities. The testing center which I use is also opened an hour later, clean/clutter free, and has friendlier cooler staff. Will absolutely drive the extra 30 to get here.

Yelp
Nova is good for someone on the go. Classes are overpriced compared to other community colleges talked to some friends at other community colleges. You kind of have to guide yourself in order to pick the right classes the counsellors will mess you up.
google avatar

Greg W.

Yelp
They really do not work well with helping students get on track. I chose to attend NOVA because I heard some great things about the school but my experience has been overwhelming. Keep getting the run around with the counsellors and really needed someone to reach out to me from campus to help me go over goals. I'm paying out of state, barely getting by and now have to pay a parking citation of 95 after buying a parking the pass the same day. Overall I've had some great professors but the good in this campus is definitely outweighing the bad. This will be my first and last semester here, great to know they how much they actually care..

Jane T.

Yelp
The classes are affordable, unlike GMU down the road. I like the teachers and students here better than GMU because they seem down to earth. But I only had 3 classes here so I didn't get a wide sampling. The students are diverse, and seem to have been through a lot, they have different skill levels. But the teachers seem very accommodating. In a given class, you will have students that just graduated from high school, retirees, and also middle aged. I tried their cafeteria once, it really sucked. Don't eat on campus under any circumstances. Parking here is also better than GMU, at least cheaper! I can't speak to the social life here, I wasn't on campus much. I went here to learn.

Sydney K.

Yelp
I'm very glad I left here smoothly. I never finished with my associates degree, but Thank God I finally met a great advisor who was helpful. The other counselors weren't helpful/rude, but my advisor was the best and made my transition from high school to college smoothly. I'm am very grateful and fortunate that I met my advisor! Plus, my advisor is the sweetest person ever! After I showed my sat scores, I did not have to take an unnecessary placement tests since I already took the sat so I enrolled straight into my coursework like it should be unlike what the other advisors who weren't helpful and told many people to take placement tests. I signed up for the affordable classes as soon as possible with decent profs and it made my first 1.5 years (part-time) as easy as possible then I transferred straight to Mason no problem. Try finding the best counselor if you can! Many aren't helpful but only a few are a good exception! Keep talking to as many until you find the right one that is helpful!
google avatar

Yelp
Well, this was for the purpose of shredding documents and it happened to be at NOVA; however, the whole thing ran incredibly smooth. A long line existed, but they moved us through efficiently. Once I arrived at the shredding truck that took about a minute and off I was to enjoy the rest of my weekend. I will go back again to shred more documents. Great program by Fairfax County.

Yelp
I haven't been here in yrs good change though Lots of rennovated classrooms...added new building once where parking used to be...prices keep on rising since I once were here...I prefer medical campus...alexandria seems to be rennovating as well...manassas needs overhaul...
google avatar

Yelp
I am transferring in for one year and had the worst time finding any classes, getting placed in (due to placement tests or poorly stated pre-requirements) The website states Transfers dont need placement tests but then you do when registering. They are slow at approving transfer credits. Their online help and onsite counselors are not helpful. Their website is disjointed so it is very difficult to find anything. Thankfully it is only an intermediate step so you only HAVE to be there for 2 years.

Yelp
Horrible school. I have been here several times and my experience was... really, really bad. My first year - the students - kept bullying me, calling me names such as a "retard", and many other derogatory statements. Some Prof. at this school are pretty good, pretty up-standing. But many are very rude, unprofessional and don't care about their students. The social life here is extremely bad, nobody here wants to be your friend, or willing to help you out in class, they try their best to avoid you. The administration and faculty refuse to do their job, help students out, and many other things, and they try to avoid you and avoid interacting with the students. My second year was extremely bad, few people in the financial aid office workers actually told me to kill myself, and one of them actually told me that I'm ugly, and of the students said a very creepy statement about me, "nobody loves you..." In 2014 I toke one of my classes with one of my former teachers at NVCC and she actually bullied me and said I'm an idiot, a little guy, unimportant. One of her students actually... actually, 2 of her students actually said very, very creepy statements about me, as such: "nobody loves him", "nobody likes him." I also toke a professor at this school and my experience with him was very bad. He started to harrass me for no reason, called me names and said I'm nothing and unimportant. He kept his harassment, since the duration my time in class. He would gossip me about me to other Professors, and at the end of the class, he told me to "go kill myself", said I'm "worthless", for some odd reason. I will not state the Prof. name on here but it starts with J - W. Ever since then, I have been very sad coming here. Nobody here even treated me with respect and even wants to see me succeed. If you are looking for a great community college, I will not recommend here. It's dreadful, cringe-worthy, and makes me wanna rip my skin out and crawl out of my skin. Go to Southwest Virginia Community College. It's very nice there, with great people. I assure you, you will absolutely love it there, and enjoy your time there. I'm in the Alexandria campus, still a student here, with no good experience. I don't want this to happen to you, so stay away.

Yelp
I am happy i attend school here. The website is easy to navagate and what better place to learn than in our nations capitol.

Yelp
Campus is better then the Woodbridge campus but Woodbridge is building a new building on campus...we'll see how that goes.

Mathews S.

Yelp
An honest review - my wife and I have been looking at NOVA courses for the last two years. Our friends joined here two years ago and dropped out. We will not be joining NOVA. Here is the reason: Yes courses and credits are cheaper - BUT - for every course, there is a pre-req. For every pre-req, there are additional pre-req. So for a two year Associate deg. you will end up doing two plus years pre-req even before you can actually start your associates program. So basically, you have spent more time and as much money as a private college. TOTAL waste of time.

Yelp
Oh, Nova... I've heard many things before registering for your classes. 13th grade, comes to mind. People have to understand, yes Northern Virginia Community College has college in it's name, but it's not going to be the typical college experience, and people shouldn't expect it as such. People may say the social scene isn't that great, but I've met some great people, whom I hope to be friends with for a while. While, I have also met a few people who I want to slam my textbook against their head. But, hey... it happens. It does seem that a lot of the classes have to "dumb" the classes down for the majority of the students who either don't do the work, cause they just don't give a @#$% or they are busy with their lives, since there are many adults coming back to school to get an education. That's what I like about Nova is the diversity at the school. You'll have the typical high school pothead, who goes to class when he wants a place to rest his head or the stay at home mom, who wants to go back to school whether to get back in the work force or get a degree for herself. Also, there are those that came to Nova to save some ca ching, even though they were accepted to some top schools. Nova will definitely help you save a lot of money. Mason's tuition, which isn't even that high compared to many of the private universities in the areas, is still three times the tuition of Nova, which really adds up. So... why not take the "easy" classes at Nova, get your GPA up, if it wasn't looking so um... "hot" in high school, and transfer to state university of your choice. REMEMBER GUARANATEED TRANSFER AGREEMENTS, meaning they HAVE TO take your @#! if your GPA qualifies for their schools. The minimum gpa for the transfer agreements aren't even that high, Mason is a 2.75 I think, but remember I wouldn't aim that low, because you still gotta apply for to the major of your choice... I personally like the fact that the majority of the classes are smaller, but thats because of my personality... You aren't going to see as many people on friday and saturday classes, which may be a positive or negative however you look at it. Positive being hell of a lot easier to find parking that pretty close to the building and not have to wait on other cars to get the hell out. I would say the majority of classes are busiest between 11 and 2. I personally like the fries, with mmm ketchup and mayo mix. HEY, don't knock it till you try it!

Yelp
I liked NOVA and their teacher selection and some of their classes. Basically you found teachers that taught at other universities around the area like GW, GU, VA tech, George Mason, Marymount, etc. So you got the same quality of teachers for the most part which made the classes just as hard if not harder than your average 4 yr school. The downside is that although a cheaper tuition relative to other 4 yr schools the tuition has climbed a lot since 03 when I last went there. The other downside is that it seems way too easy here to stay longer and thus more years spent in college. You have to complete more requirements to graduate and transfer in English, math, and gym and if you change courses of study you have to go back and complete req for those courses. So it's not unlikely that a student here graduates at age 24 or up. I think that is the average. Upside is you meet people from all walks of life and of every age and country. Same goes for the teachers. Bad thing is that people are more involved with their study or their other lives. Basically it's a commuter school. You're in and you're out after class is up so no social life here and no friends. **update: They stopped admitting people after the session starts even with permission from the teacher meaning more time wasted for the student who needs to change classes after registration.

Yelp
Instructor at Medical Education Campus was extremely unprofessional and should not be teaching the course. NOVA must hire more experienced instructors with a least a bachelors degree or masters. Equally important is the need to ensure those instructors treat their students professionally and do not demean them in front of the class the way this one did to me. Thanks for reading my review. I wish all students luck as they take courses at this college. I am extremely thankful I have no need to take further courses there ever again.

Yelp
The application process was absolutely ridiculous. It was literally a Jerry Lewis movie. I would talk to admissions and they would send me to IT who would send me to admissions, who would send me to IT. You get the picture. I finally went to the campus and immediately admissions sent me to the phone to talk to IT who were rude and said why are you calling us, talk to admissions! In the end, the admissions people were able to provide the information that was causing all of this ruckus in the first place but only after they got ticked enough at IT to help me. I talked to other people about this experience and I'm not the only one who struggled with admissions. I only took 2 classes and transferred. I started to wonder if they would be able to handle transferring my classes to another college. I'm still working on that, so that's still to be seen.

Yelp
The administration, advising, and records services of this school are awful and extremely unprofessional. A positive thing I will say is that most of the professors and instructors are very good at their jobs and want to see their students be successful. Outside of that, my experience at NVCC has been a nightmare. When I was attempting to have my credits transferred from a separate institution and register for classes here, the "advisors" did not do one bit of advising. They would not answer my phone calls, would not respond to my emails, and i couldn't get anywhere with them even after visiting their offices in person on four separate occasions. I had my transcript from my former institution sent over a month prior to the start of classes, but NVCC lost my transcript and did not tell me. I called and emailed the dean's office numerous times to try to get them involved, but nobody seemed interested or able to help. This prevented me from registering for the classes I needed as my transfer credit had not been evaluated. Classes had already been in session for almost a week - a week that I missed - by the time my assigned advisor had to override the system to get me registered. My transfer credits were not put into their system until midterms. Now, I am attempting to transfer out of NVCC. Unfortunately, despite having my request for an official transcript entered and supposedly processed over a week ago, neither myself nor the institution that I wish to attend has received it Overall, this school's administrative and non-instructive staff is nothing more than mediocre. They do not want to help you, and they do not care about your success. I have never encountered any sort of organization that is this unprofessional and uncaring in their work. While NVCC does provide a great option for students coming out of HS and who want to use it as a stepping stone to a four-year, be prepared for dealing with its staff to be a highly unpleasant and frustrating experience.

Yelp
Ive been going to nova for two years now and it is great! I have loads of friends who go to a university and I don't feel like I am learning any less or not getting a good education. I am, however, paying less than half the price of an average university!

Yelp
I came for an awards ceremony. I have never been to this campus and I had no idea it was so large. I was put off by the lack of signs to identify the buildings. It's essentially a loop, but for first timers, I struggled to find my building and google maps was of little assistance. Once I located the building, I parked in the faculty parking to avoid the parking garage which charged for a Friday evening. Thankfully, I was not cited but it appeared others were doing the same. I can imagine during the day it would be necessary to enforce parking restrictions. The community center building was average, nothing spectacular. Overgrown shrubs and missing letters on the building prevented a clear sight line from the street. The ceremony was located on the upper tier and the noise from other groups could be heard at the back of the room. The facility had many activities but no physical help or guidance materials. My event did have a sign that but I encountered two sets of people struggling to locate theirs. I couldn't help them since I was new to the campus. Better signage would be my recommendation.

Yelp
The online science classes are a complete joke. They base who passes on who knows technology - not who's the one with the most knowledge! I'd rather pay more money and receive proper instruction. Never again will I waste money at NOVA - Loudoun!!

Yelp
I had to return my books for my first Fall semester at NOVA. I ended up not being able to return them on time because I had some family things to deal with back at home. Knowing I had a $500 plus bill to pay back to the school, I was so stressed about how I was going to come up with this money- especially with just registering for my spring semester and having to buy my new books as well. Anyways, today I went into the book store to see what i could do or work out and that is when I spoke to Dana Deleon Ibrahim. She was not only understanding; but compassionate, kind and really wanted to help. She took care of the whole problem for me and I have never dealt with someone so kind and caring. Her attitude was uplifting and dedicated as soon as I walked in. If anyone has any type of issue with their books or needs help finding anything in the book store at the Annandale Campus, I HIGHLY recommend asking to speak with Dana. She was happy to be there, upbeat and makes NOVA college in Annandale an overall better place. I cannot say enough about her and her quality of work!

Yelp
Read www.RateMyProfessor.com, and www.StudentsReview.com before you attend NVCC. I guarantee you will want to think twice before attending. Especially, do not attend ELI. The level of instruction is ridiculously variable. You may get a great teacher, or you may someone who actually hinders you. There's no way to know until after you've paid and started the course. And if you think you can demand a refund for poor performance on the part of your professors, I recommend you read the College Manual Very, Very Carefully.

Yelp
The NOVA college needs to retrain the Admissions employees because their professionalism in handling the students applications process is the worst I have never seen. We plan to have our son to attend here to get the general courses done before he transferering to the University system, but the counselors here are slow, lazy and unprofessional. As a result of their actions, we decided to have our son attend directly at the 4 years college level. Remember you get what you are paying for and definitely our son's education is more important so we will not have him settle at NOVA. Please do your research.
