This place will definitely bring you the country vibes you are looking for. With the barn outside, frequent live bands, and a cozy taproom, you'll feel right at home. A fun atmosphere when there is music. Otherwise you will notice right away that it's very small, one of the smallest taprooms I've been to. They have plenty of outdoor seating for all of their events and nice summer days, so you aren't stuck inside. Like their taproom, the beer selection is rather small, with only a few beers and then some other options for cider, wine/mead (cyser?) and some snacks. They have a food truck outside which provides some variety of food. Now for the real reason I went here: the beer. It was alright. There was some decent basics for the flavor, but nothing too special from their top IPA and Porter. I also sampled the stout and felt it really lacked any strong flavor. Overall I think that they could go more bold and distinct with their flavors as the three beers I had were fairly generic in flavor. Perhaps their cider and mead direction is better, but that isn't my thing. The staff was very kind and welcoming.
They need to step up the flavors to compete with some of the other great Michigan breweries.
A few points of feedback which I would like management to consider:
1. The idea of a sample costing $1. I've been to 200+ breweries and this is the first time I've ever heard of charging for a sample. Luckily our bartender removed the charge when we ordered the beers, which was very kind. She explained the justification and I can appreciate that there is some loss from people sampling everything and walking out without buying something. Perhaps that's less of an issue if the beer is a bit more interesting. The idea of a charge for a tasting will likely lead to people jumping into a beer they may hate and having a bad experience overall.
2. Plastic cups. This is also the first brewery, not at a convention, festival, or event where I was served in a plastic cup. It does not add to the experience and really makes the product feel cheap. I highly recommend glasses.
