I was lucky enough to visit the museum for more than the few minutes Hurtigruten Coastal-Express guest get to rush trough it. And I highly recommend to take the time to visit the museum.
After a short introduction by the museum staff, i started my travel back in time. And it was simply fantastic!!
The part of the "old" DS Finnmarken lets you go back in time to the beginning of the coastal lines. The cabins are equipped with beautiful contemporary decoartions. Great atmosphere!
The higlight surely is the MS Finnmarken from 1956. The whole ship is like a gigantic time capsule. The spirit of the 80ies/90ies is perfectly conserved. The smell of linoleum flooring alone brought me back to my childhood. 😃 It feels like time froze, when the ships acrive career ended in 1993.
There is so much love for the details. For example: the fully equipped post office, original flyers in the reception, the radio room with sounds of real radiocommunications, and even some of the closed cabins give you the feeling, that the ship is alive : you can hear people partying in one cabin, in an another one a family is discussing,...
In the salon you can have some snacks and drinks. And if you take a seat there, you can completely forget, that you are still on land.
It's a fantastic work, the people from the museum did and are doing to preserve the ship.
I only regretted that the engine room is part of an extra guided tour. I didn't know that in advance. I have a reason to come back. :-)
Thank you! Greetings from 🇧🇪!
