Old-world lagers, Czech & German styles, biergarten, food trucks

"Remember when everyone was going full send on IPAs? Well, around the same time, the founder of Notch Brewing went in the complete opposite direction to focus on session-style beers. Order their crisp, Czech-style lager and you might even get educated about the nuance of a mlíko pour, which is mostly a bunch of flavorful wet foam. Notch’s Brighton location is spacious, but the indoor area can fill up quickly on weekends—they share the all-season outdoor patio with other small business vendors in the complex. Get some pies from Pizza Project and empanadas from Super Bien, or something from Notch’s own kitchen that’s pumping out flavorful pretzels and German-style sandwiches. " - valerie li stack

"A spacious brewery taproom with a year-round beer garden offering around a dozen session beers on tap; the location welcomes outside food and families during most hours as it grows into a larger riverside complex." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

"Opening July 9 at 4 p.m. in Brighton, this North Shore brewery’s Boston debut occupies a 3,766-square-foot former horse stable inside the new development. The airy, spacious taproom typically pours 10 to 14 beers at a time, emphasizing session styles such as pale lager, dark lager, and pale ale, and will offer cans to go. Guests can spread out in a massive year-round, 2,000-square-foot beer garden with picnic tables and room for about 200 people; the layout is designed to accommodate gatherings while allowing ample distancing. Outside food is permitted (and the taproom plans to host food trucks as more vendors open), children are welcome except after 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and dogs are not allowed per city rules except for service animals. The brewery first opened in Salem in 2010 and has operated a taproom there since 2016." - Terrence Doyle

"Super Bien customers will be able to eat onsite — there will be a bit of indoor seating at the shop, as well as outdoor seating in Speedway’s general courtyard — or grab food from a window and head over to Notch Brewing’s beer garden." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal
