Visited on a Sunday morning. Lively market, highly recommended especially for the grilled chicken, pies, and macchiato from the mobile coffee shop. The Notre-Dame Market in Versailles (Marché Notre-Dame) is one of the most vibrant and historic markets in the Île-de-France region. Located just a short walk from the Palace of Versailles, it dates back to the time of King Louis XIV, who established it in the late 17th century to serve the growing population of the new royal city. Today, it continues to be a beloved local hub for fresh produce, artisanal products, and a taste of authentic French market culture. Set in a charming square with arcaded buildings, the market consists of both indoor and outdoor sections. Inside the covered halls, you'll find a wide range of goods—from fresh cheeses, meats, seafood, and baked goods to fine wines and prepared dishes. Outside, colorful stalls are filled with fruits, vegetables, flowers, and local specialties. The market is busiest on Tuesdays, Fridays, and especially Sundays, when it becomes a lively gathering place for locals and tourists alike. Beyond shopping, the Notre-Dame Market offers a cultural experience. The friendly vendors, the smell of fresh bread and herbs, and the bustle of people create a true French atmosphere. It's also a great place to pick up picnic supplies before visiting the Palace gardens or simply to enjoy a leisurely morning exploring Versailles like a local. Whether you're looking to try regional delicacies, buy high-quality ingredients, or just soak in the charm of a historic French market, the Notre-Dame Market is a must-visit spot in Versailles.

Versailles DO THIS - go to the market, buy cheese, wine, pastries or whatever you love and do a picnic by Grand Canal. You will need to rent bikes or a golf carts or better yet do a bike tour. A great experience, much better to see all of Versailles than just the palace

Great selection of cheese, fruit, vegetables, and already prepared foods. All vendors we encountered were very kind and could speak either English or Spanish. Great stop after visiting the palace… highly recommend.

Oh my goodness! This market is a dream for anyone. Whether you are a tourist, a chef, or anyone just passing by, the market is crazy to visit. They have many shops selling meats, cheeses, vegetables, desserts, and fish. The indoor stalls are arranged around a ring of buildings, so it's easy to walk around. I, especially, thought the dessert shop was mouthwatering. It's a shame I didn't get a chance to try the desserts. Next time...

Google
Wonderful lunch after visiting Versailles! After touring the Palace of Versailles, we were looking for a good local spot to eat, and AI recommended the Marché Notre-Dame — and it was the perfect choice! We ate at Rôtisseur & Traiteur, one of the food vendors inside the market. The food was absolutely delicious — full of flavor, fresh, and perfectly prepared. The service was also very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. The market itself is charming, vibrant, and full of local flavors. It’s a great place to explore and eat like a local. Definitely recommend stopping here if you're in Versailles!

Google
Love the market, great, fresh produce. But walk around, as there are really large price gaps between stands, for similar products. So whenever you come to Versailles, visit the market, but try to be early

Yelp
We came on a Sunday morning, so the market was in full force (until 1pm). It was full of people including lots of locals. We got cheeses, baguettes, charcuterie, honey, fruit, butter, wine, pate, and a rotisserie chicken for a picnic. Pro tip: they can chop up the chicken for you. Some vendors do take credit card, but come with cash.

Yelp
All I can say is AMAASAZING! The fresh take away salads make the perfect picnic basket for Versailles. They have wines and cheeses too!

Yelp
The produce portion of Versailles' very large food market is impressive, on par with La Boqueria in Barcelona. Unfortunately, it doesn't have any sit-down or countertop restaurants, or it would be dang near perfect. If you're heading to Chateau Versailles, make sure you go on a day that the Marche Notre-Dame is in service. If you can make it to the Chateau early enough, head there first to avoid the lines, then go to the market around lunchtime to pick up a fantastic picnic assortment. If you're feeling up to it, high tail it back over to the Chateau, go to the right side of the gardens, pick up a bike, and have your picnic somewhere secluded and incredibly enjoyable. The walk between the Chateau and market is around 15-20 minutes. If you're like us, you probably didn't make it into Versailles until lunchtime, at which case you'll have to brave the crowds after eating the market food. Fresh produce rules here, and fruits and vegetables abound. Within the halles, there are boucheries and fish mongers ready to hawk their goods. For a hearty meal, the best bet is to pick up a poulet roti from one of the many vendors around. There's also available sides at these places; I suggest finding the one that serves the amazing spicy stewed potatoes. And don't forget the essentials: pain, vin, fromage (bread, wine, cheese) to round out the meal. I guarantee a good time here or your money back.

Yelp
Wonderful Market! This market has just about everything anybody could want. Even if you have nothing on your shopping list, it is a pleasure to just wander through all the stands to see the sights and smell the aromas.

Yelp
My roommate and I came here every weekend when we were exchange students at Versailles. I came here again with my wife and visiting brought back wonderful memories. The vendors yell out deals as the market closes, often pretty attractive ones. Like all French open markets, this one has great cheese and cooked food. We bought some excellently spiced chorizo sausage here, which unfortunately we did not buy more. Not as large as the one at Bastille, but on par at least, if not better (less touristy).

Yelp
Very nice place in the market square to pick up picnic lunch to have for lunch while in the Palace of Versailles.
