Nuan Xin Rice Roll

The chicken rice roll is what I ordered only $5.75 it hit the spot for a quick snack tasty a little bit sweet mostly rice but the rice is purple and the chicken was a little sweet and delicious with some white sauce and lettuce and a few other tasty things

It’s yummy! It’s just not very stuffed with filling. Is very much mostly rice. But it’s yummy. It was ready super fast, like 3 minutes.

We stopped by for lunch around 1pm on a Saturday. We ordered the special Fantuan (rice roll), jasmine milk tea with no sugar, and some Taiwan sausage. There was no wait, we got our food in about 5 minutes and were able to sit at the restaurant to enjoy boba with our Fan Tuan. The purple rice was cooked perfectly and the food was delicious, healthy, and filling. Highly recommend for lunch or quick snack!

This is a great place for a snack or a light meal. I never tried a rice roll with purple rice before so I was curious how it taste. I got the braised pork with pickled vegetable and it was surprisingly exceeded my expectations! It was served warm so it's nice to eat outside in the cold. FYI, there is a playground across the street with benches. The rice was cooked perfectly which provides a nice texture. The pork wasn't fatty and they give a nice amount of pickled vegetables. I was surprised that they added mayo and it goes so well with the roll. The cost is under $5. I'm so glad this place exist!

Wow. I am addicted to this place. Their rice rolls are great - warm, tasty, and cheap. I got hooked by their rice over milk tea and wondering what it was, but after the first try I cannot believe I never had this thing earlier. It combines the best over carbs and milk tea. And guess what, their milk tea tastes like actual TEA. Not like those artificially flavored industrial produced milk tea. So yeah — try it out. Rice over milk tea, it’s my summer.

I got the crawfish rice roll with Sichuan sauce. After tax, it was $6.80. Inside the rice roll, there’s crawfish, pork floss, and lettuce. Spice level is just right for me. They sell rice ball, pudding, and milk tea. I also really like their purple rice over milk tea. It takes a while for them to make the rice roll. Really cute inside with the lights on the wall and seat. Very cozy inside and good music.

I’ll definitely come back for more fan tuan! There aren’t a ton of options back in Boston, so I’m happy to go to this restaurant with all of the iterations. I got a sweet rice roll this time, but maybe vegetarian next time? I also added youtiao. The roll was HUGE with lots of rice. I was surprised there wasn’t an entire youtiao but rather little pieces. But I still liked it. Very filling.

I prefer savory breakfasts over sweet any day. (Think: tamales, shakshuka, menemen, grilled fish and miso soup, etc...) So no surprise: Nuan Xin's warm, Taiwanese-style fan tuan are exactly how I like to roll -- especially on a cold winter's morning when temperatures are hovering well below 20F. These fan tuan rice rolls (distinct from cheung fun, which are also often identified as "rice rolls" on menus) are big, hearty, sushi burrito-like cylinders, wrapped with nori and a high-quality, warm purple rice. You choose a "main" filling, which can be anything from curried vegetables, shrimp, or chicken to duck, beef, or eel. Unless you ask for omissions, your chosen ingredient will come alongside lettuce, cucumber, Taiwanese pickled radish, fried cruller (yiou tiao), pork floss, and a "special sauce". The ingredients and textures are nicely balanced, though as a personal preference, I could do without the creamy, mayonnaise-like sauce. I'll ask for that to be omitted next time. Also on the menu: Taiwanese sausages; shaved ice desserts; grain and nut-based drinkable porridges (similar in texture to avena); various milk, herbal, and fruit teas, which can be ordered hot or cold, with or without bubbles (tapioca pearls), jellies, popping fruit boba, or red bean. My nine-year old and I shared a hot taro milk tea, which was from a mix and standard issue, but of course very welcome for defrosting purposes. There are a few bar stools at counters along the east- a south-facing windows (five seats in all), but the seating is clearly designed to discourage loitering. Staff were absolutely wonderful and hospitable and I do wish I'd been given the option to tip using my credit card. (Speaking of credit cards, there's a $10 minimum.) I'd like to come back for the fresh teas, soon -- especially since Nuan Xin is right next to Sun Ming Jian, an old favorite.

omg this place hit the spot i heard about it somewhere that there was inexpensive rice rolls at this place and have been wanting to go ever since i got the braised pork and preserved vegetables and the duck rice rolls and they sid not disapoint i also got the matcha latte and it was perfect something about milk at asian restaurants that tastes so good even for lactose sentisitivr individuals the food was waiting for me when i was there (ordered for pickup) so quite fast and it was wrapped up very nicely there isn't much dining space except around the perimeter of the place also contrary to social media reviews it isn't the cheapest place to get food in chinatown but i'd still come back

This food was AMAZING!!!! My boyfriend and I got the rice rolls and the mango pudding. So delicious and so cheap! We got the best bang for our buck. If I wasn't from out of town I would frequent this place. Staff was very nice and tentative. Bathroom was very nice and clean too! Love it

I stop here for the fresh tea and hands down the easiest 10/10! When i tell you the this place has amazing tea, i mean it. I wish i could drink it everyday! The tea was so fresh and flavorful, it didn't taste fake or syrupy. It was lovely and fresh! great for a hot day! * Kiwi Tea: 10/10 * Mango Tea: 9/10

Decided to check this place since it was so close to our hotel. Turns out it was a great idea! I got the pork roll and fresh mango tea. The pork was nice and salty and the tea was lightly sweeten. The service was very quick and they had cute decorations up.

I love Nuan Xin Rice Roll because the rice rolls are so affordable and worth the price! I always order the Chicken Rice Roll because it's so flavorful and also healthy. They use purple rice, pork floss, lettuce, chicken, and a mayo sauce which tastes amazing. Everything is wrapped in seaweed and one rice roll will keep you full. I love grabbing this on the go and you can see the employees making it fresh. They also sell a variety of drinks making it the best quick stop.

When I first saw the name of the place, I assumed that it was cheong fun but it turned out to be an uncut Chinese style sushi which I was not very down for, but at least it was cheap? Came here on a weekend and there weren't many people in the store. - Pork Rice Roll - A bit confused about this rice roll as there were 2 pork belly pieces and pork sung filled in the parts without pork belly. I thought at least they would make it like a Taiwanese breakfast rice rolls but it was not that and I wasn't the biggest fan of the mayonnaise they put in it. Would definitely be a bigger fan if they had more pickled vegetables and a you tiao in there. - Peanuts & Walnuts Hot Drink - This was scalding hot when I first got it, but this drink was actually so good. It kind of reminded me of the canned 牛奶花生 drinks you get from the supermarket which I absolutely love but is honestly so scarily full of calories. I liked the subtle walnut flavor although I wish both flavors were stronger. Overall, would not get the rice rolls but the hot drink is not too bad. Honestly would recommend them changing their rice rolls to be more like Taiwanese style to attract more customers.

My favorite fan tuan I've had in NYC! Can't beat the price for what you get. I paid $6 and got the roast duck rice roll which had all the right flavors and textures -- crunchy duck and pork floss with the savory rice and veggies. I did have to wait 20 minutes for my roll which was longer than I expected but it was a busy Saturday lunch time.

I always wanted to try Nuan Xin Rice Roll because I love fantuan, and I finally took the time to drop by while I was in Chinatown. I ordered the eel rice roll because I love eel and it did not disappoint. It hit the spot and it was an affordable yet filling meal. I will be back whenever I stop by Chinatown again, which might be very soon.

A convenient place but it was okay, veggie rice roll was very filling & enjoyed purple rice. The mango pudding seemed like powder & water and definitely over priced for what it was. I would get the rice rolls again but nothing else, it was okay good filling option for lunch!

I was craving fan tuan and found this place and wanted to give it a try. It's not exactly like the traditional fan tuan I've had before but it's just as delicious. I absolutely love the purple rice. It has a nice texture and is different from other rice I've had before. I got the eel roll ($5.75) which had lettuce, Mayo, pork floss, eel and the purple rice with seaweed on the outside. I paid with card and there's a $0.40 fee for under $10 so I recommend bringing cash unless you plan to buy multiple items. I definitely want to come back and try their other flavors too, like chicken and shrimp.

Great value for the price! It was really unique and did feel like a mini sushi burrito Eel rice roll 4.5/5 The mayo sauce in there was perfect and the eel was really unique. It tasted really fresh to me Mango fresh tea with cream 5/5 When mixed, it was so deliciously creamy and filling as well. I would definitely come back to try more flavors They take Apple Pay and cards which is rare for the area too

Came here to grab a quick lunch. Tried the pork rice roll and black pepper chicken rice roll. The black pepper rice roll was okay. Didn't really amazed me. I felt i like the pork rice roll better. There were 2 pieces of pork belly meat with some lettuce and radish. Service was nice and quick. I felt i needed 2 rice rolls for me to be full.

Many years ago, there was a restaurant in San Francisco where you would pick your meal according to your health issue. All the dishes had Chinese herbs inside, so the food was good tasting but also medicinal. That's what their hot drink menu reminds me of. They have hot drinks with Chinese herbs like purple yam, Chinese yam, red date, black seed, etc. Very cool idea and it would be nice if they'd add more like dang gui and gou qi zi, even huang qi in the winter. I'm sure a nearby herbalist could help create something to boost their business even more. Not that they need it though, it was decently busy.

Came for a quick bite - unsure of what to get I went with the "special" or namesake rice roll $4.50 which included pork floss, lettuce, mayo, pickled greens all rolled in sticky purple rice and seaweed wrap. Though unexpected I enjoyed the crunch from the fresh lettuce. I was missing more pickled mustard greens and more floss equitably distributed. A crispy fried donut (you tiao) was noticeably missing too. If I lived closer I would try another flavor to properly assess.

A while back when I visited NYC and was craving fan tuan, Yelp's top result was Ho Foods. I checked out Ho Foods back then and was beyond disappointed with my experience. On my most recent visit, Nuan Xin Rice Roll popped up as the top search result so I knew I had to try it out. I stopped by today right when they opened and ordered an Eel fan tuan along with a braised pork one. Food came out quickly and there's some counters you can lean against to consume your food inside. WOW. The fan tuans here are hearty and delicious. Unlike your traditional fan tuan, the ones here are rolled up like a sushi roll and have mayo inside. Generous amounts of filling inside and everything balanced nicely with the purple rice. This is going to be a regular stop for me on future visits to Chinatown in NYC.

Talk about FLAVA. I'm gonna keep it real with you, I came across this by complete accident. When I heard rice roll all I could think of was "sushi burritos". I was instantly intrigued. This place is delicious! I ended up getting a chicken rice roll and the pork with preserved vegetable rice roll. Both of these rolls were delicious. They come in a small bag but don't let the appearance food you, they were pretty weighty. I feel like they really fill those puppies up. Ordering was pretty easy and everything on the menu is pretty cheap. They even have bubble tea so that's definitely a plus. Food doesn't take long at all to come out. I think I only waited like 8 minutes tops for my two rolls. I would definitely come back here.

My grandparents recommended this place and honestly, it's a total Chinatown gem. I ordered several rices rolls including: eel, crabmeat, pork, chicken, and beef. For less than $5/roll, it's actually quite filling. They also add lettuce, mayo, and pork floss to each roll. And I really like that the multigrain rice had a sticky rice texture to it. While I didn't try them, they also sell bubble tea/fruit teas here.

Love this place! My go-to comfort food takeout even though it's a more modern twist on your traditional fan tuan (and their purple rice just hits different). I've tried a couple different items on their menu, but I always gravitate towards the eel rice roll. It's also nice that you can swap out the sauce to another one if you're feeling a different flavor that day! They have decent boba drinks too--their milk teas are on the milkier side and they use real fruit in the fruit teas.

Fun play at Taiwanese fan tuans. These rice burritos are better than their drinks. Nuan Xin offers them with a variety of fillings from sweet to savory (even eel). They use purple rice, which is also a little healthier than white.

Such a stand-out snack!! I had already gotten lunch at Wah Fung, but wanted to try this rice roll. At first, I told myself I would just take a bite, but immediately I realized I couldn't just take a bite and set it down. It was so good!!! It was also loaded with lettuce, sauce, meat, rice, pickled veggies, and as someone who loves fan tuan, this is certainly one of the more unique and stand-out ones. It wasn't dry at all either due to the sauce. I'm only in NYC for the weekend, but I definitely wish I had access to this everyday! There is also a beautiful park next to the shop to eat and enjoy your fan tuan.

I recommend the spicy squid rice roll here. It is the most tasty along with the eel. I could do without the mayo though. I recommend a better selection of sauces and maybe offering light mayo. Drinks are tasty, but aren't really worth it.

There are a lot of great things about Nuan Xin: - They use purple rice, which they cook exactly, stickily right - They wrap it tight - fillings do not fall out onto your clothing - It's very cheap and very filling - The ratio of filling to rice is perfect - Squid is tender and delicious But: - far too much mayo, like, why is mayo even a part of a preserved pork/veg roll, or a spicy squid roll? And I don't mean the mayo is part of the spicy sauce, I mean it's on top of it. Mayo is NOT listed as an ingredient, by the way. - random lettucy salad vegetables in both rolls, I think more care could have gone into complementary flavors/textures Also, I ordered three rolls but she only heard/gave me two. I'd go back and try some other flavors armed with the info that I need to specifically ask for no mayo.

Nice take on the Taiwanese rice burrito. Got the eel rice roll and braised pork/preserved vegetable rice roll. Awesome that they use purple rice! Except, too much mayonnaise. And meat floss. Usually those are fine in other things but they are not needed in this to be good. Next time will opt of those ingredients. Great snack place will come back for more!

Was looking for a quick bite to eat and had wanted to try this place out and it exceeded expectations! The duck was flavorful and had the perfect mayo-rice ratio so it wasn't too dry! The rice roll is decently sized so definitely can serve as a full meal.

I was running some errands in Chinatown today and wanted a quick bite and I remembered seeing this place last time I was on Hester street. So I asked the wife to run and get me a shrimp roll. I can honestly say this little roll was nice and filling, the purple rice was cooked just right, and it was very tasty. Now I have a go-to spot anytime I need something on the go. I think they are reasonably priced for the quality of the food. I say stop in and try them out if you are in the area and just want something that won't fill you up but won't leave you hungry as well. If that makes sense

Been wanting to try this place since passing by a while ago. Can say I was pleasantly surprised. Their rice rolls are similar to a sushi burrito. It's smaller than the size of a phone and comes with pork floss, cucumber, lettuce, and mayo. I didn't expect the rice inside the rice roll to be warm. I've tried the eel and some other rice rolls, but I think the eel is the best. I've also tried, but am not a big fan of, their drinks. Their drinks are decent, but nothing special. A big plus for having a bathroom available for customers!

This is a quick on the go lunch option! The rice roll (more like a sushi burrito) does not look like much, but it keeps a person full for several hours. It is served warm. I ordered the beef ($4.95 w/o tax) and the eel ($5.50 w/o tax). I recommend the beef more as there are sizable chunks. A unisex bathroom is available for customer use and there is a counter for customers to eat in if they wish.

Super yummy rice roll, recommend eel rice roll. Each roll is so hearty and enough for a meal. The spicy squid is pretty good as well, not that spicy though.

The most refreshing kiwi tea I've had out in the city. They basically add a entire kiwi to your drink and the pieces are small so they don't clog a straw! Great spot to hop in for a quick drink to start your day off right. #tellemcraigsentyou. Pro Tip: they also have a bathroom, customers only!

Unreal. This place is the gem of all gems. Asian comfort food is the name of the game of this place. All different types of green, fruit, and milk teas and rice rolls that remind me of what my parents would buy for me growing up The passion fruit tea came with actual passion fruit seeds and was not too sweet. The braised pork with preserved veggies was spectacular - took me so long to narrow down which rice roll to get. It was creamy, and had a hint of acidity that I love in my rice rolls. My total was less than $10. What a steal! So grateful that I am close to this spot - I'm a regular for life!

Ordered four rice rolls and I liked the roasted duck one best. The other salty ones also taste really good. Didn't really like the sweet one. It feels like old fashion Chinese mooncake flavor. Too much sugar in it. All in al, really cheap price and good quality, highly recommended!

Hurray, finally some place that makes salted cheese actually salty (though not TOO salty)!! The peach tea with salted cheese foam is really good. The peach flavoring is strong, and the sweetness goes so well with the salty cheese foam. For those who aren't familiar, don't be scared about saltiness and cheesiness of the cheese foam! It's cream cheese and the salt brings out the sweet and creamy flavor.

While I can't comment on its authenticity, I thought the rice rolls here were affordable, filling, and enjoyable. Once the restaurant works out how to keep up with the orders faster, the rolls here would make for a good quick (and heavier) snack or a good small meal on-the-go. I stumbled upon this spot during Grand Opening weekend and the shop was completely chaotic. Customers were packed into every nook and cranny, and the servers were shouting out orders left and right. I actually waited 45 minutes for one "Special Rice Roll", but having said that, the cashier also warned me ahead of time that the wait would be long. The staff was visibly hard at work, but it seemed like they were severely unprepared for the amount of orders they were taking. I tried the "Special Rice Roll", which included toppings of pork floss, lettuce, and mayo, rolled up into a sticky purple rice roll and wrapped with seaweed. The roll was surprisingly filling for its size, but could've used more pork floss and toppings in it. Overall I thought the rolls were solid with a good price at $3-5 each, but the wait time was just way too long. Hoping they sort out their service time soon, because there's potential here!

There's only one person making the rice rolls, which is why it isn't as efficient as it could be. Two girls making bubble tea, one cashier, and one more to the assembly line of answering questions and packing orders. Normally, this set up is fine, but for a grand opening, not so much! Braised Pork Rice Roll ($4.25): the rice rolls are PACKED - you guessed it - with rice. I watched as the guy shoveled out a gigantic portion of purple rice before flattening it against the seaweed. Meat/veggies filling isn't too generous compared to the rice ratio, but for my braised pork one I did get about two and a half thinly sliced pieces. The mayo here was a little too sweet for my liking, but overall, it's okay. I have no praise, but also no negative vibes about the not-a-sushirrito Shrimp Pork Rice Roll ($4.25): get this one instead! Shrimp was good, and this roll itself is much creamier and overall, tastes better. Reminiscent of onigiri Also, be prepared to be STUFFED (from the carbs). You'll suffice on just one order, unless you're a "fantong" (rice bucket).

Sticky rice wrapped around seaweed and has fillings. It tasted okay, with more rice ratio and has mayo inside along with some veggies. Had more of a sour taste which was not my style. I would maybe try a different one next time.

Hands-down one of my staples when I'm in Chinatown, and I make the trek down to Chinatown a LOT. For less than $5, you get a hefty rice roll - purple rice, your choice of protein filling, with veggies and sauce and other goodies inside, all wrapped in a sheet of dried seaweed. The first time I ordered one, I was surprised at how much it weighed! Since then, I've gone back more times than I can count. I almost always get the duck roll, which is my favorite, but the eel and shrimp fillings are also decent. They've always been generous with how much roasted duck breast they put in my rice rolls. It's just so economical without compromising AT ALL on flavor or variety! The downside is that you may need to wait ~5-15 min after you order depending on the size of your order, because this shop is entirely manned by a young couple, with the lady in the front taking orders/making boba or tea lattes and the guy mostly rolling the rice rolls by himself. The lady is lovely though, and we chat away about kids and politics and business, and then I walk away with amazing food. Really wish I didn't live so far away from here, but every chance I get, I'll stop by.

Ordered the cheese than, pepper beef, eel and the house rice rolls. I love the package and how it looked, but flavor wise it was really lacking. The ham and cheese was the first one I tried and it was completely bland. It needs a lot of seasoning or sauce. I ordered them all with spicy Mayo but I didn't get or taste any inside the rice rolls. They are a good size as a snack, 2 could be a small entree. I wanted to love them bc I love onigiris in general er and this place is close by, however I really didn't care for any of the favors.

I thought I had already left a review for this place, but I was initially intrigued by the purple rice. However, the rice to stuffing ratio is WAYYYYYYYY off. I find this unfortunate ratio with Asian foods such as onigiri. Always way more rice than stuffing. I got the veggie one, and it was OK. A ton of calories, the ingredients were delicious. It's also a fake healthy because the purple rice gives it a healthy look, but they do not do vegan milks or substitutions.

It was our first time there and my wife is a big fan of rice rolls. While I am not a fan of purple rice in general, I do have to admit I like what they are doing here. We got the roast duck rice roll and the combination of the duck, rice, lettuce and the delicious sauce all wrapped together just works to perfection. I do wish they put a tad more duck but for around $6, it is reasonably priced. They also serve hot and cold tea drinks and we certainly took advantage of that. The place is immaculate and the service is top notch. Definitely will go back again.

Got the beef and also pork and preserved veggie roll. It looks not that big but good for the price. Super filing cause of the rice. Wish it was roll a bit and had a better rice and filling ratio but overall really enjoyed it. The sea salt green tea was also great

Yeah, this place is legit. I got the eel roll and pork + preserved vegetables roll, both with mayo. Both were excellent. Perfect balance between the rice (which itself is very very good) and filling. If I lived closer I could see this easily being a regular spot for a quick and filling lunch. I also got the hot purple yam drink, which unfortunately spilled half during the delivery (nature of delivery drinks I guess) but the half that I did have was super good. Very interesting and brought back memories of the yam latte's I had in South Korea. Planning to try all new stuff next time, and I'd recommend this place to my kids if I had any. Omega A+

I've tried a couple of different rice rolls here and they're all very good! They also pack the ingredients so it's so worth the price. ALSO, the drinks especially the fruit teas with cheese on top... the mango fruit tea is SO GOOD!!!! They taste like the happy lemon cheeese foam tea drinks, delicious and such a big drink size for only ~$5.50, cheaper than other bubble tea places to be honest.

Pretty good when hot! The japanese mayo gave the rice roll a creamy kick. The purple rice was freshly steamed and not dry at all. The letteece adds a crunchy contrast to the soft pillowly rice. You have a choice of variety of meat or veggie toppings. We had the duck and the eel. The special roll is served with pork floss. If you never had pork floss, its finely sweeten shredded fried pork. Think of these as chinese rice rolls or sushirito. All great deals for under $5 ea. I would personally i would avoid the drinks. Esp the boba ones. The bobas was way too soft.
