Nuchas Artisan Empanadas Review - Koreatown - New York - The Infatuation

"With multiple convenient kiosk locations throughout the city, Nuchas’ slow-braised short rib and vegan shiitake curry empanadas are some of the most inventive we’ve ever had. Baked to perfection and perfectly braided, the empanadas here are both soft and simultaneously crunchy with a particularly impressive repulgue. They also have many vegan and vegetarian options, including the miso ginger-roasted Korean pumpkin, which is a delicious surprise. Nuchas empanada packs are available for nationwide shipping and can be ordered online here." - Monica Prestia

Hi Nucha team, I wanted to share some honest feedback about our recent experience at your Stagecoach location. I’ve been following you on Facebook for a while and was really excited to finally try your empanadas after a family outing to the nearby mini golf. Unfortunately, the experience left us very disappointed. When we approached the food truck, the person attending didn’t greet us or even make eye contact. I asked enthusiastically if we could order the 12 dozen frozen empanadas for takeout, and her response was a flat “ok,” without even looking up. We tried asking about the available flavors, but her tone and body language were dismissive and irritated. When we asked for a box to carry the empanadas, she said “no”(the only word she really said to us) and it came with no explanation. Selling 12 frozen empanadas and expecting customers to bring their own container seems like something that should be clarified upfront. It also took four hours to get the empanadas warm and ready. When we finally received them, we thanked her, but she didn’t even acknowledge us. She seemed frustrated and rushed us off as if we were a burden. When we sat down to eat, we realized there were only 10 empanadas instead of 12! To top it all off, the worst part is that I had already tipped 15% at checkout. You charge upfront, and the tip prompt is automatic, it felt like just tapping a button without really thinking. For situations like this, I honestly wish there was an “untip” button. We were so excited to support a local business, but this was a letdown from start to finish. I hope this feedback helps improve things, especially at this location, because as it stands, I can’t recommend it...

I bought their empanadas at the Ferry Bldg farmer's market today. It was 3 for $12* and there are both savory and sweet options. They had generous fillings and were pretty yummy. They are not warm when you buy them there so you have to reheat on your own. They definitely taste much better once reheated. I bought 6 in total since they keep in the fridge for a while. *Their regular price is 2 for $12, but if you go after 1pm, they are 3 for $12 in any combination. There are lots of flavor options.

I got a pineapple handpie. The hand pie was so awful I spit it out. The dough is insipid. The pineapple filling did not stand out. The handpie was microwaved so the crust was soggy and rubbery. To add insult to injury the cost is $6.00 for pie smaller than one from McDonald's.

Overpriced, very underwhelming empanada. The filling is bland and the pastry is bone dry.

My experience with Nucha Empanadas was not the most traditional 5-star experience, but I am so glad I picked it. I ordered off an App and the order was missing a few items when it arroved. I called the restaurant to explain the situation. The woman on the phone was very helpful and apologetic. I didn't expect anything more than a refund (which she offered). I was really surprised when I received a call from an employee (sorry I cannot remember the name) and he offered to deliver the missing items to be personally. I was so happy. He arrived quicker than the App delivery driver did and gave me some complementary items, which were delicious. I am so happy with the service and the food, this place is not like all the other restaurants that are just trying to make money, you can tell they care about their customers. I will order again soon!!

Great empanada. We even had a Spanish chicken one, and it wasn't overwhelmingly bell pepper flavored for once. We'd get it again!

Google
Empanadas are tasty but they often mess up and don’t send the sauces with the order when it’s delivered and even when you ask and add notes, they keep forgetting. They need the sauces! Guess I won’t be gambling with my orders for delivery here again - bummer!

I love empanadas, and these are easily the best in San Francisco. The classic beef, the spicy chicken are great and the spicy smoked pork is off the charts delicious.

Yelp
I am a sucker for empanadas so I couldn't resist ordering after smelling fresh aroma while walking past this yellow vendor! Service was patient and friendly. Bread was soft & flaky. The chimichurri packed the perfect punch with herbs, saltiness, and vinegar. I just bought 2 and will come back to try more flavors (& take pics of the cross-sections lol). Traditional Beef - 5/5 - The beef had so much flavor mixed with grilled onion and peppers. I can see why this is their most popular flavor. Ham & Cheese - 3.5/5 - Can't go wrong with this simple combination. Although it was warm, there was no cheese pull at all. Still great quality but was disappointed the cheese didn't melt.

Yelp
Great food, tiny empanadas, big price. Tried the classic beef and chicken. Short reviews if to the point mean as much as a book. Tiny village cute. Inadequate parking.preorder service quick.

Yelp
I've been to Spark several times and never actually noticed that there was an empanada spot until I discovered it! Nucha Empanadas is tucked away within the food truck park as a small stall with an assortment of diverse empanadas that cater to a diverse palate. I ordered the: - Traditional Beef Empanada which consists of organic ground beef, onions, green onions, raisins, sugar, spices & green olives. The meat was incredibly flavorful and the empanada was well stuffed. One thing to note though is that the empanadas are a bit pricey, granted many spots at Spark Social are a bit pricier. One empanada will be $5.75 so just keep that in mind. That being said, the one i did have was very delicious!

Yelp
Nucha Empanadas is a small Argentinian food truck/stand at Spark Social in SF. You can order online for pick up... it was ready in about 15-20 min for 4 empanadas on a Saturday evening. Service was standard, our savory treats were ready when we arrived, and we were able to quickly enjoy them at the picnic tables in the general seating area. We got 4 for sharing, unsure of how big these empanadas would be. We weren't exactly full when we finished, but it was still very satisfying. Based on the size, I'd say about 3 empanadas per person would be a good full meal (so we ended up still hungry later). We tried the mushroom and gorgonzola, pepperoni and cheese, spicy beef, and Spanish chicken. I liked all of them, but mostly the mushroom and gorgonzola... all of them with warm generous fillings, fresh ingredients, no raisins (which I don't like), and great spices blended in perfectly. I especially liked the chimichurri sauce on the side, there were 2 kinds, one was a bit spicier, they were both good. The pastry shells didn't wow me (the crusts weren't flaky or buttery) like other empanada spots. Also, they didn't mark which empanada was which, nor were they shaped differently to identify the fillings (like some empanada spots do), so we just cut each in half to see what it was while we were eating. But can't complain too much. The empanadas were overall good, and served in a lovely setting, Spark Social food truck event. I'd gladly return for more.

Yelp
Had the mushroom empanada and it was fairly tasty. But it's both kind of pricy and not very big, which is always a tough combo. Not that anything at spark social is cheap exactly, but this is a tough value proposition.

Yelp
I love this place! I first found this place years ago when I had a family gathering at Spark Social SF before COVID. I hadn't been back until recently and it's just as good as I remembered. There are plenty of selection for meat eaters and those that vegetarian. I love the spinach and feta empanada. I tried the chorizo empanada the last time I visited. The flavors were good; it was just slightly on the drier side. I added some of the sauce that it comes with to add back some moisture and it was so good. My other go-to empanadas are the spicy pork and the spicy beef. 2-3 empanadas would probably make a meal but be careful as there are plenty of other food trucks in the area.

Yelp
Some of the best empanadas I have ever eaten. Super Tasty! I try to always keep some on hand....

Yelp
Tasty empanadas! Great selection and vegetarian friendly. I tried the eggplant and the ham & cheese, and both were delicious. I would recommend ordering 2-3 if having as a meal; otherwise, try one as a side of another food truck dish.

Yelp
Really delicious! There are a lot of meat options and a couple veggie options. I tried the mushroom empanada and I found it to be really tasty, plus they give a sauce on the side which goes really well. Definitely would get it again. *I only ordered one, it's not a meal but I got food from other trucks around to get a taster of multiple things
