So my best friend and I are having a "boys weekend" to get away from the everyday humdrum. Yesterday, as we always seem to do a lot of Italian, decided to switch it up and do German. Nurnberger Bierhaus has only been open since August 2020 with the Yelp "New and Hot" flagging, and they were close to our rental, so this was the choice. Boy, it was a good one!
Even with COVID-19, the place was full of customers and the owners told us they've been busy since opening. Staff are all wearing masks, there's enough distance between tables, and it seemed everything was being done safely.
The fully German choices were all hits that my friend and I had. We stared with a special appetizer of smoked trout served cold with a very tasty and not too intense horseradish sauce. The sauce was so good I asked for some to go home and I'd pay for it, but unfortunately that could not be done. I had Wienerschnitzel which was two nice pieces of breaded and fried veal along with the noodles (I'm forgetting the German term) and some broccoli, carrots, and a jam. This was all great. My friend went with the sampler sausage platter which included four different sausages along with potatoes. This was another winner. For drinks, we each had a dark Krombacher but I had the Bee Sting which included honey liquor mixed in. OMG was that good; probably the best dark beer I've ever had! We both ended up asking for one to go each because we thought due to COVID-19 that restaurants were allowing takeout drinks. Once again, we were wrong and instead went for round two in the restaurant. I definitely was feeling good and talking a lot. I wanted to have a cordial, and because the restaurant couldn't accommodate the takeout or horseradish sauce, ended up giving us the fig cordial on the house. Wow. My friend and I finished with a kid-sized one scoop of special apple crisp ice cream.
Everything was so good and we had a wonderful time. Turns out the owners were originally from NY so we had a little discussion about that. Everyone was friendly and attentive to our desires.
If you're in the area in the mood for German food, this is the place!
We did have a little issue with the reservation as my friend called and had to leave a message instead of speaking to someone. The owner said they were having issues with the phones and cannot obtain any messages left. So, since we technically didn't have a reservation, we had to wait all of about 15 minutes before we could be seated which was not a problem. Owner said to make sure for now you actually speak to someone to make the reservation.
About $130 for two not including tip. Two appetizers, four beers, two mains, and dessert. And they threw in the cordial.
I wish the business continued success!
