Celebrated old-school joint featuring traditional Polish cuisine, kitschy decor & live polka music.
"Inspired by days on a North Dakota family farm and named for a beloved grandmother, Mary Ellen’s is a warm and affordable breakfast and lunch addition to Minneapolis’ Northeast neighborhood. The brunch board feeds 3-5 and comes with three biscuits, a hot pretzel, toast, scrambled eggs, two kielbasa sausages, greens, and more. Be sure to add on a growler of cold press coffee." - Alicia Banaszewski
"After ending a 66-year run in 2016, the owners, Rob and Toy Jacob, of Nye’s Polonaise Room are tackling a new project called Nye’s Piano Bar. The new spot is slated to open in Northeast Minneapolis Thursday. It’ll occupy the same space where the Nye polka bar once stood at 112 E. Hennepin Avenue and will officially open its doors at 4 p.m. on January 11th according to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal. This take will be significantly smaller—1,300 square feet instead of the 11,000 square-foot monster that once was—but will serve up cocktails and beer, martinis, wine, champagne, and more seven days a week. Don’t come hungry, though, because there won’t be any food." - Cinnamon Janzer
