On the Grid : Ô Banh Mi

"At Ô Bánh Mi menu is straightforward just like their hours. They're open 12-4 everyday and serve about 5 types of bahn mi sandwiches, 2 choices of papaya salad and 2 curry bowls. That's it. Everything is $7.50 except for the drinks, of course. It's a tiny hole in the wall but man, they do it right. There's seating for about 8 inside, cash only and no visible street sign. Seek and you shall find." - Presshaus LA

The Best Lunch Spots In Hollywood

"It’s hard for us to even say “Cahuenga” without picking up a banh mi from Banh Oui. In some ways, we prefer these somewhat non-traditional versions over the straightforward cold cut or grilled pork iterations you’ll find at places like My Dung or Saigon’s Sandwich. For starters, the insides of the baguettes here are always fluffy and soft, with a crunchy exterior. Chicken liver oozes out of the sides at even the gentlest touch. And fillings aren’t typical—they’ve got chicken katsu, fried rock shrimp, sous vide duck breast, and plentyof vegetarian options. We gravitate towards the katsu, balanced out with loads of herbs and crunchy pickled vegetables. Banh Oui is fast, it’s fresh, and if you set your mind to it, one sandwich (and maybe a side of fries or mushroom salad?) can stretch into two meals.  " - brant cox, arden shore

4 Restaurants to Try This Weekend in Los Angeles - Eater LA

"In a part of town that’s chock-full of well-branded restaurants — complete with cool logos and design-forward interiors — it was quite a trip to step into O Banh Mi in Los Feliz. With its name scrawled in permanent marker on the glass door and a barebones interior, the restaurant is putting its energy where it counts — and that is in the food." - Eater Staff

11 Great Sandwiches To Eat Alone In Your Car In LA

"ORDER: Chicken Katsu Banh Mi Maybe your right side mirror flew off on the 101 in the Santa Ana winds. Now you’re at Autozone during your lunch break, you can’t stop saying “Get in the zone, Autozone,” and you’re hungry. Head to Banh Oui in a strip mall on Cahuenga in Hollywood. This little counter-service lunch spot uses ridiculously fresh ingredients (the produce comes from the Hollywood Farmers Market) to construct sandwiches worth crossing town for. We almost always order the chicken katsu—the crispy katsu holds up to the handful of cilantro and pickled vegetables, and chicken liver oozes out of the sides and into the fluffy baguette. Get in the zone, Autozone. " - brant cox, arden shore

Excellent bahn mi! Pictured is the classic cold cut sandwich that comes with a deliciously salty sauce on the side. The bread is the ideal texture of crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. If you love bahn mis, this place will not disappoint! The staff is also very friendly.

Google
So delicious! The steak banh mi was perfect, the jerky salad crunchy fresh delightful and the Vietnamese coffee smooth, robust and the right amount of sweet. The Owner was so nice too. 5 stars!!

Google
The food was so delicious. I had the steak sandwich (in photo) and it was a perfect composition. My hubby got the pork sandwich (which isn't always available) and he loves it. I also got their Vietnamese Coffee and let me tell you it's the best coffee I've had in years. Watching the cook out the sandwiches together was like watching an artist work.

Google
Love this place! Had the Tofu Banh Mi and Vegetarian Curry and it was amazing.

Google
Cute spot and super quick. They have parking for to go orders.

Google
Hole in the wall where it's food is what you are coming for. I got the roasted pork sandwich, and it was really good. The oil that you drizzle in made gave it a good oomph, the veggies were fresh, the pork was brined to a great level, and the bread kept it all together in a great package. I would definitely recommend getting it taken out or delivered though. There isn't much seating and not really a super friendly place to hang out. The food is great though, and it's good value too

Kris M.

Google
Small space but big flavor! The roast pork sandwich is 🔥. Limited seating inside bench seat, one small round table and two small bistro tables outside. Service was slow and waited about 20 mins for my sandwich, all good bc only one person working and sandwich was worth the wait.

Google
I love Banh Mi and was excited to find a place specializing in it, however, the experience was disappointing especially for the price. While the bread was perfect—the rest of the sandwich fell flat. I was excited for the pork judging from others photos, but it was flavorless and the crispy skin was so tough I could not bite through it. The Vietnamese coffee was also lacking in it’s usual bold and strong flavor.

Yelp
I will update my review to reflect a review of the food when they UPDATE THEIR HOURS to reflect their ACTUAL HOURS so people don't drive across town to eat when they're CLOSED!! Honestly I gotta stop bothering with this place. Calling to see if they're open doesn't work, they won't always answer even if they are. And I've ordered pick-up online before, had the order go through, only to have to get a refund because they're closed. Might be time to give up on this place, which is sad.
google avatar

Yelp
Love the sardines Banh mi, especially with the consommé! Chef's kiss! French baguette is fresh, and sardines is cooked with the right amount of shallots and garlic, not an overpowering flavor. FYI - sardines are good to keep your skin's barrier healthy. Ur welcome! Service is always helpful and friendly. Ambiance is small and quaint but appreciate the seating area to enjoy a quick bite.

Yelp
Honestly? It was the most lackluster banh mi of my life, and the most expensive, which is a double edged sword. I'd understand if it was boasting with flavor and amazing ingredients but all i tasted was the baguette really. i love banh mis and love to try every shop at least once but the roasted pork on was so disappointing:( got it with their vietnamese coffee and it was bitter and sour. Paid $24 total for both and left feeling super unsatisfied. 4 stars because i don't want to mess with their rating. service was sweet, the lady was nice.

Yelp
Pretty good banh mi. They were a bit expensive for the size but the meats/cuts were well seasoned and pickled veggies were nice to balance out the sandwich. Baguettes was more on the crunchy side so it would cut the roof of your mouth but not too bad.

Yelp
Food: me and my wife ordered the chicken curry and it was good not bad and you get a ton of bread with it so it's nice to eat with the sauce. It is a little spicy to beware. The shredded chicken sandwich was okay also not bad but also super spicy so I ended up taking out most the sliced chili. The sauce it comes with is nice I would suggest to ask for extra because one is not enough... for me at least. The iced Vietnamese coffee was not bad it definitely had a strong coffee taste with a bit of sweetness. Service: it's a quick order and 2 steps walk over to the table. Nice and responsive. Ambiance: this place is super tiny there is only 2 tables inside and seats max 8 people. I would recommend no parties larger than 3 coming here. You will be really crammed so it's nice for a quick meal for lunch.

Uglyoriginal L.

Yelp
Good but I just can't believe that I paid $32.85 for 2 banh mi recommend for those who believe that price is just a number, this is the indulgence you didn't know you needed
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty decent Bahn Mi Sandwiches here. Its a little small and easy to miss, but you get good service here. I'd say the sandwiches are little more on the expensive side for what you get, but I guess that is sort of the norm in Silverlake. Tip: This place is very easy to miss since it is small. If you have not been there before it is a good idea to have your navigation app like googlemaps on.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place, I really did. The Banh Mi Dac Biet that I ordered was just okay. The bread was too hard and unpleasant to eat. The flavors of the meats and fillings were good though. But the point of a banh mi is the bread. Banh mi literally MEANS bread in Vietnamese. I also got the Spicy Chicken Curry bowl. I loooooove dipping my baguette into some curry but this was not it. The flavor was rather bland. It needed more saltiness and sweetness. The chicken was super tender though which was a plus. The curry was not spicy at all. I'm not sure if they're catering to an American palate, but I do hope they improve their dishes!

Blake W.

Yelp
It was delicious, I recommend the sardine banh mi if you're up for something different.
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
Pretty solid banh mi, we got the chicken and roast pork, for me personally I could have my pickles and Daikon a little more vinegary and papaya salad
google avatar

Jackson U.

Yelp
Very unassuming location, hard to spot! Love the no frills traditional feeling interior with the stools, feels very authentic. Good sandwiches, really enjoyed the chicken banh mi!

Yelp
The move away from cash is something I really just can't get on board with. This place only has one method of payment - a card with a chip. If it doesn't have a chip (my temp card while I wait for my permanent one doesn't have a chip and is swipe only) then you can't pay. They don't accept Zelle, cashapp, Venmo, or any other form of payment. Your cash is literally no good here. Also the woman working here truly and genuinely sucks. Fuck this place.
google avatar

Claire S.

Yelp
Love this place! It's in a very unassuming spot and is easy to miss when you're driving- the inside and outside are pretty bare. It's super minimal and very quiet inside. I always sit out front for that reason, or just take it away bc I'm a little shy and awkward. But HOT DIGGITY! That is one heck of a Banh Mi, and worth feeling weird for. I always get the chicken, but I hear the cold cuts, and veggie options are also great! Comes with fresh, crispy jalapeños, and a side of dipping sauce- similar to an aujus (Idk how to spell that). If it weren't almost 11pm I'd go get one right now. I think about them frequently. Go!

Yelp
Rico sándwich . Lugar muy limpio . Para llevar se tardan mucho en la entrega. De la comida .

Yelp
Walked in and seemed like there was only 1 staff working the front desk and making the food, so it was a bit chaotic. Felt bad for the staff who had to take all the orders and make the sandwiches. I ordered the number 4, and i was a bit disappointed. The bread was good, but the chicken didnt taste good, wasnt sure if it was chicken or tuna. overall i would pass.

Yelp
After I moved back to Los Angeles, I gradually noticed how much I missed having regular access to my fave Bay Area bahn mi shop (Saigon Sandwich will always have a piece of my heart!). Luckily, it turns out that there's a good bahn mi shop that happens to be in my neighborhood. Ô Bahn Mi offers a limited menu of sandwiches, but I've enjoyed what I've tried during recent visits. Their sardine bahn mi provides a tomato-based fish stew that I found uniquely satisfying. However, my favorite sandwich by far is their Friday special, which is a bahn mi made with lechón. The crackling skin combined with the flavorful pork is great, and it is provided "au jus" if you want to dip your sandwich in some tasty roasting juices. It's a small shop, so be prepared for limited seating options.

Yelp
This is my far the worst Banh Mi I have eaten in my life. Period. Heading from Glendale and really didn't want to make the drive to Alhambra for sandwiches so looked on Yelp for somewhere within close range. This place popped with decent reviews so why not. This place is literally the only business on a busy drive through street. Had to look hard for this place behind a big tree. we missed it twice driving by. We got 1 pulled pork, 1 beef, and 2 of the roast pork sandwiches. The roast pork was available on a Saturday even though it said only for Fridays. In hindsight now, they are probably leftovers from the day before. The bread is about 10 inches long and the thinnest I've ever seen. The ingredients inside the sandwiches were skimpy!!! Barely anything inside the sandwiches at all!!! The roast pork sandwiches didn't even have any picked veggies. All of the sandwiches were Tasteless and some parts, even questionable whether the ingredients have gone bad. Worst of all, those 4 little crappy sandwiches robbed $50 out of me. Yes, those Sandwiches are $12 each! They are not even worth $5 if you ask me. I never felt like such a sucker for buying from this place. Trust me, don't go. Don't get fooled by the good reviews here. They are not true.
google avatar

Ignat P.

Yelp
Really tasty sandwiches!! Got the tofu and the pork options with extra jalapeños. Love the sauces they give you with the sandwiches which guarantees you won't have a dry sandwich (you wouldn't anyway here). The tofu was delicious, you could tell it was marinated with a lot of pepper and seasoning. I got mayo so it wasn't vegan, just vegetarian, but there is a vegan option as well. Added some sriracha along the way. The pork was delicious but very rich. I would say they are on the pricier side for a bahn mi at around 12 dollars and not massive, for the very hungry person one may not suffice. I am excited to try the papaya salad next time.

Yelp
I have never fancied myself a sandwich person, rice has always been my carb of choice. I have to admit... there is something magical about banh mi. Crispy thick cuts of French bread stuffed with all kinds of magic: smooth and savory pate, tender cuts of meat, aromatic sprigs of cilantro, and crunchy and tangy slices of radish and carrots. This establishment is very unassuming from the outside, there are a few tables for outside seating. Inside is a very quaint and straightforward establishment, one long table to fit a few guests and the order counter a few feet away. I've seen many posts about the roasted pork sandwich; which we were lucky to have on a Saturday... disappointingly, they were out of the crispy pork skin garnish that was coveted by many. Unfazed, I decided to order that as well as the lemongrass chicken banh mi, ca ri ga or spicy chicken curry, and their iced coffee. Lemongrass was delicious, although I would have a preferred a more distinct aromatic flavor. My boyfriend enjoyed the roast pork sandwich but noted that the flavor would be a lot better with the accompaniment of the crispy skin. The ca ri ga exceeded my expectations, I highly recommend ordering it with your sandwich so you can dip your sandwich into this deliciousness. It does have a little bit of a kick for those sensitive to spice, but it is so flavorful, hearty, and warming. Their coffee was on point. Overall, a decent place for banh mi if you don't want to travel out farther to Alhambra and such. If you do get the roast pork sandwich, ensure to get some skin and juice for maximum satisfaction. Also, Don't sleep on the ca ri ga!
google avatar

Kedar D.

Yelp
O Banh Mi is a tiny shop in an isolated area. It has two vegan options on the menu---banh mi and curry with rice. The lemongrass tofu banh mi ($8) is one of the better ones in the area, with good bread and fresh ingredients. I found the tofu to be too spongy, and the lemongrass flavor doesn't come through at all, but the sandwich still comes together on a whole. That's a testament to the quality of its ingredients. The vegan options seem to sell out faster than the meat options, so come here before 1 p.m. if you want a chance at this sandwich.
google avatar

Hannah E.

Yelp
When I saw that my skinny $8 cigar-shaped sardine sandwich came with what looked like salsa, I figured I could probably write this review in one sentence: "Just what one would expect from a Silver Lake banh mi joint." But really, it wasn't bad. As long as I didn't hold in my mind that I was 'supposed to' be eating banh mi, dipping the sandwich in the chunky, oily tomato broth (in taste more like a warming soup than a salsa) was nice, like eating French dip or something. And it needed it, because there was no healthy schmear of pate mixed with mayo that is the cornerstone of a lot of banh mi, so the sandwich tended towards dry. But the peppers were spicy and the pickled carrots and daikon nice and thick and tangy, and overall I enjoyed it.

Evies R.

Yelp
Nice guy, but he used the same gloves to touch the iPad screen for payment and resumed with making the banh mi with the same pair of gloves. It's very unsanitary
google avatar

Brenda N.

Yelp
Loved seeing that they give their recycling bottles to an older man that is trying to make ends meet. Says a lot about the ppl working here. Bought lemon grass Banh Mis. They provide a small side of chicken broth on the side. Only minus is the baguette is on the thin side.

Ann R.

Yelp
Ordered staff lunch from these folks by accident (thought I was ordering from somewhere else LOL). Happy accident as the sandwiches were delicious; good bread, perfect ratio of quality and tasty filling to bread and great service. Will definitely order from them again.
google avatar

Shannon R.

Yelp
I promised I would be FIVE STARS FIVE STARS if they got vegan mayo AND THEY DID! I recently had a less-then-stellar banh mi elsewhere, and I needed to rectify the situation pronto. I went to O Banh Mi to order in person, and they had marked the vegan options on the menu in store. When I saw the tofu banh mi was marked vegan, I asked, "Do you have vegan mayo?" "Yes!" And the heavens opened and the angels started singing. I ordered, paid, and quickly got my sandwich, packed to go. Everything I said before still stands - excellent bread, awesome tofu, lots of delicious herbs and daikon pickle. It's currently my favorite banh mi in the area. Just in case, I will probably specify vegan mayo each time, but man, I'm thrilled they have it.
google avatar

Elli A.

Yelp
Best Banh mi EVER. It's a must go. Specially their Friday pork banh mi which is one of the best.
google avatar

William C.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect for one thing: Banh Mi Sandwich. Best I've ever had. Roast Pork (not always available) was amazing, beef was very good too. Other places do great Pho or Satay, but serve these sandwiches as an afterthought. Not so here. Actually, the exact opposite here! A couple of salads, a couple of curries, but really: just Banh Mi. No atmosphere, just a few seats. Seems like most people get it to go. The sandwiches take a long time to come out (if you compare to Subway I guess), but as so many places say: good food takes time. These sandwiches are worth the wait.

Sharon C.

Yelp
Best Vietnamese sandwich in Los Angeles. Love the dripping and had the chicken Highly recommend
google avatar

Ramon L.

Yelp
Lots of good things going for this place: hole in the wall, small menu, friendly staff, made to order, great neighborhood. The banh mi itself was just okay, though. I got the steak banh mi, but it didn't ring any bells. The bread, protein, and toppings were just standard. I wished there was something that popped with some sweetness. Plus at the higher price point, I expected a bit more.
google avatar

Joemm B.

Yelp
As far as traditional Banh Mis go my go to is still going to be Banh Mi My Tho in Alhambra. However, the #6 Roasted Pork/Lechon Banh Mi is on a whole other level, quite possibly my favorite sandwich in LA. Period. Is it double the price of a normal Banh mi? Yes. Is it worth that price? Yes. Is it the sexiest thing I've ever seen? Yes. Would I marry it? No, it would be my naughty mistress. I've never had a sandwich that tastes as good as it looks. I always ask for extra skin and juice on the side. You should too.
google avatar

Bianka G.

Yelp
It's Friday so you know what time it is... Pig Time So I work across the street and finally tried one of their signature banh mi sandwiches; the roasted pork banh mi! Btw, only on Fridays! So this place always has a line out the door and because the close at 4pm, people are rushing to get their orders in. We called ahead to avoid waiting in line and sure enough it was ready in no time. The sandwich was like a foot long and the baguette was crunchy. The roasted pork was delicious but they really didn't put enough in it. Also came with cucumbers and cilantro inside, plus this yummy vinaigrette on the side. The sandwich overall was tasty, but had more bread than fillings. Plus if I'm waiting all week to get this roasted pork sandwich, the nice thing to do would be to serve you a good amount. So for almost $8, you do get a pretty tasty banh mi.
google avatar

tim a.

Yelp
I miss this place! I hope its closure is temporary. The pork and chicken banh mi are both delicious.
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
Small little shop with really good banh mi's. Their Friday special with crispy pork is def worth. Parking is tough around here though
google avatar

Elizabeth F.

Yelp
Was in the area on Friday, so I lucked out on the pork. I Walked in and there is a small crowd in the unassuming place. Roasted pig looked fresh and I ordered the Friday special. Apparently everyone else did as well as at least 5 pork sandwiches came before mine. The pork was cooked well and the skin a crispy nice treat. The bread was amazing and didn't overpower to ingredients which can happen with other banh mi. Cilantro makes it better and the jalapeños were a nice touch. I ordered light jalapeños and it had a good kick.
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
I had a definite craving for banh mi and found this place on yelp. I'll preface this by saying that I'm not from around the area so it was incredibly difficult for me to find. I literally did three U-turns and thought that I was going crazy. I finally just decided to park and walk along the street to find it. Tip: park on the same side of the street for free parking as it is metered across the street. I finally saw the sign written in black permanent marker on the door. Upon wandering in, the place looked pretty cute and I was greeted by the cashier. The sandwich itself was solid but not worth the $8 as there are much better sandwiches in the Monterey/Alhambra area for under four with the same amount of meat and veggies. I would add that I would have definitely turned around had I not placed an order online. Ultimately, I would probably not come back.

Mike M.

Yelp
O don't bother. Not all it's hyped up to be. Pretty much a disappointment. Move along. O veh.
google avatar

Marisa K.

Yelp
* cute mom & pop shop in Silverlake * always consistent with their sandwiches * vegan option (delicious)!

Yelp
[[[if you know, you knooooow]]] And O Banh Mi. Super legit, most official banh mi outside of SGV.
google avatar

Yelp
Steer parking only. 12 chairs for seating. Food is good. Hole in a wall. Open until 4pm only. I would come back again. Hidden gem.

Yelp
They finally take credit/debit cards! Let me just start off by saying that rating this place anything less than 5 stars is fucking crazy. I've had the cold cuts, lemongrass chicken, lemongrass tofu, beef and the coveted roasted pork. Each sandwich comes in a delicious baguette that's crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The protein is always perfectly cooked, retaining its juices, though they do provide you a small side of broth with each sandwich to provide more flavor. For those who want more than just the kick from the jalapenos on the sandwich, sriracha blends perfectly well with the flavors of each sandwich. Of all the sandwiches in the lineup, the roasted pork is by far, the winner. Only available on Fridays, you can see the whole pig they use for the sandwiches on display right when you walk in the door (yeah, its that serious). The pork in the sandwich is succulent and herbaceous, but not only do you get roasted pork IN the sandwich they slice off a piece of perfect crackling skin and put it on top of the sandwich for an extra bit of amazing. On to the coffee. Just, damn. If you have enjoyed Vietnamese coffee before, you know what you're getting into. This place probably serves the best Vietnamese coffee I've ever had. Strong and not too sweet. The perfect combo. Do yourself a favor and get a friggin sandwich from here. ESPECIALLY if you are reading this on a Friday.

Lily C.

Yelp
The roast pork in the Friday special sandwich has no taste, it was not even seasoned. The only thing I liked was the crispy pork skin. The iced Vietnamese coffee was strong and on the bitter side, could use more condensed milk. Overall, the sandwich was not worth the $12 price tag. The cashier also acted like she did not want to be there.
google avatar

Glen M.

Yelp
O banh mi, more like "O shit dats a good banh mi"!! Go for the pork if they have it. If not get a different one. Thoughts... yeah i thought so. Pork is a must have... if they have it. Au Jus is on point. Make sure you say hi to buddha. Classic Vietnamese music bumping really sets the mood for a good sammich. + mexican cokes & orangina. Cool hang out spot for preying mantis, lizards welcome as well. Did i mention the pork? A bit pricy for the banh mi, but o so good. Nice employees. And they accept cards now, but they prefer cash $. Cool... let's eat

Imran A.

Yelp
They're back! They have reopened as of March 2022 . I was worried this gem was lot forever to the coronavirus but the best value Banh Mi in LA is back back back.
google avatar

Roy V.

Yelp
amazing!! I loved the way the chicken was shaved into the bread, along with a side of Au Jus which was totally different and really ramped up the plate. I also had the veggie papaya salad, a fusion plate that is more Thai but done in a a totally different way!! great retro Vietnamese music as well!!
google avatar

Cindy C.

Yelp
Disappointing. I've been wanting to try their sandwiches for ages and finally made it and on a roasted pork Friday. Good aspects were the bread and pork. Sad elements were everything else or lack of. The slices of pickled cucumber were weak in acidity and flavor. The bits of cilantro thrown in did nothing. Yes the quantity of the ingredients is probably better than other places but it wasn't satisfying.
google avatar

Brenda S.

Yelp
It's such a cute place and definitely worth coming to on Friday's if you're a fan of pork or chicharron. I for sure love myself some crispy pork skin. I was surprised to see the pig with an apple in its mouth in the display case, but you could see how your food was being handled. The ingredients are so fresh. The jalapenos, cilantro, and greens. Free water in accessible in the front corner. There is limited seating inside (about 10 seats total) and a couple outdoor seating for two people each right outside the shop. If you need a wake-me-up, this place also serves Vietnamese coffee. The chocolate milk in the glass milk bottles in the fridge is not actually chocolate milk--it's how they store their coffee.

Vartan H.

Yelp
The store is closed at 3 pm but thay klaim that it's open until 4 pm and I bike from Glendale for nothing
google avatar

Tommy N.

Yelp
Some of the best curry I've ever had. Amazing. Sandwiches are delicious. New favorite lunch spot

Yelp
Delicious traditional Vietnamese Banh mi in silver lake, friendly cashier. This is my To go place in town whenever I have a crave for Vietnamese baguettes . If you come on Friday, make sure to try the roasted Pork!
