Yelp
New spot in LA, came across it and was feeling the menu, so off we went to see if the food was as good as I was hoping!
Had a reservation made and we were seated right away on Friday night. Wasnt overly crowded, but it is new and will start earning a name and reputation. Itzell was taking care of us and was quick to get us water and cocktail recommendations. We started with the Revival, Nutty Professor and Guarapita. The Revival is gin based with banana syrup and key lime asking with guanabana. The initial taste feels muted with the fun coming through, but then you get the nuances of the fruit and it becomes a refreshing drink. The Nutty Professor has a peanut butter whiskey with espresso, where you get that espresso taste upfront and then peanut comes in on the back end. Also very nice. The Guarapita has tequila and passion fruit along with cointreau and sweet tea syrup. The tequila is also very forward and I felt the sweet tea syrup muted the passion fruit.. it ended up being the least favorite of the cocktails, but not a bad drink by any means. We also tried the Game Changer which has Hennessy, single malt whiskey, agave, pineapple juice and lemon. Very whiskey forward, but the agave and pineapple help cut through and gives the drink a nice overall profile
For food, it is served family style for everyone to try. Con Ellos is an arepa, and, honestly, just amazing. So many flavors and textures in each bite, presentation was on point, just so very good. Would highly recommend! The Pesto di Nello is a linguine pasta with Genovese pesto and parmigiana and, again, was great. It comes with roasted pine nuts to get it texture and a crunch when and was just a great bite. Again, highly recommend! The Pulpo Libre is charred octopus with a sweet potato puree and crispy chorizo. The octopus was cooked well, maybe could have had a harder char on the outside, but still good. The puree with the chorizo was, again, great, and paired together you get a little sweet, a little salty and the flavor of the octopus... just great. The tostada El mar looks beautiful with the crisp tortilla, dressed, and sitting on top of the red snapper ceviche mixture. You make it yourself and enjoy. It didn't necessarily stand out, feeling like a ceviche tostada, but was still very tasty. Finally was the Lo Slancio Ravioli, a lobster ravioli with caramelized scallop. A lot goes on with these bites with pea puréé, brown butter citrus sauce, crispy pancetta, parsley oil, micro tarragon. Also a nice bite.
Overall, new location with great food and food presentation. Staff was super nice and Itzell provided great recommendations and service. Without highly recommend O to everyone and definitely get Con Ellos and the Pesto di Nello without hesitation!
