My husband and I recently celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Oak Steakhouse. This was our first visit there, after hearing many people sing its praises. We started at the bar for cocktails and appetizers. The two bartenders we interacted with were happy and helpful. (Sorry I didn't catch their names...it was a male and a female). I had a blood orange mezcal margarita...they definitely did not skimp on the mezcal! It was delicious. My husband had a glass of Oban (scotch). We ordered oysters on the half shell and shrimp cocktail. The shrimp was delicious...fresh and large. The oysters were not great. I'm not an expert, but because they came out fairly fast and they had a firm film on the top, I'm pretty sure they had been pre-shucked. Once I scrambled them around a bit and added all the good stuff, they tasted fine... but the film was a little off-putting. Also, I did encounter some large chunks of shell in my mouth. I'm still giving five stars because honestly, that was the only negative thing about the night. We were then seated for dinner. Our food server was Saji, and he was very pleasant and talkative. We discussed wines and regions in California and he was suitably knowledgeable. We decided on a bottle of Austin Hope 2021...great choice! We both ordered 8oz filets, cooked medium rare and they came out perfect. I don't eat steak often, so this was wonderful! Along with our main course, we had loaded potato purée and jalapeño cheddar corn bread. Both were tasty! Oh, we also split a wedge salad to start. Very crisp and fresh. Since it was our anniversary, we splurged and ordered two desserts...carrot cake and vanilla cheesecake. By this time, after the Mezcal and most of the bottle of wine, I was feeling good. The next day, when I saw the leftovers in our fridge I was excited to have some more dessert...but alas, we apparently finished all of that. Haha. Oh well, I guess we'll have to go back for more. The ambience of the restaurant was nice...tables were spread out appropriately and it was not too loud, even though the place was fairly full. I would happily return for a fancy meal...just will avoid the oysters.
