Oasis, "Wonderfall"
Today is gonna be the day
That they're gonna weigh your food for you
By now you should've somehow
Realized what you gotta choose
I don't believe that anybody
Loves this buffet more than I do, how about you now
Back beat, the word is on the street
That Oasis is the best about
I'm sure you've heard it all before
But I don't really have a doubt
I don't believe that anybody
Loves Oasis more than I do, let's go right now...
And all the roads we have to drive are winding (after all, this is Boston)
And all the lights that lead us there are blinding (turn off your brights, Masshole)
There are many dish names here that I would like to say to you but I don't know how...
Because maybe
You're gonna be the one that pays for me
And after all
Let's sit by the wall...
I said maybe
I'll eat this so fast you can race me
And after all
This food's wonderfall...
So I'm not sure if you read my review for Oasis Bakery next door, which is off-the-charts 5-star Brazilian Acai Bowls and Caldo De Cana (Sugar Cane juice, fresh squeezed) as well as sucos and jugos (fruit drinks, so good), but as good as it is, this Brazilian buffet that is next door, is every bit as good, and may be the best Brazilian buffet I've ever had, including the ones in Brazil.
What to get: All the buffet items, especially the fish stews, feijoada (beans and pork, it looks black), and other wet dishes. The wets is the best.
Why: Because Liam and Noel told you to, and they will beat each other - and you - up, if you don't.
Oasis is the primary reason why Boston went from "place I don't go to for food" to "place I break speed limits to get to for food." Yes, the BBB at Toscanini and the Gelato at Morano in the Chestnut Hill Mall are utterly incredible. But Oasis makes every other New England eatery seem bland. And I mean both the bakery next door, and this amazing buffet, known as a "Steakhouse."
I thought Brazil would be heaven because of the girls. And boys. And such. Little did I know, it would be the drinks there that would rock my world most of all. As well as the only alcoholic beverage I actually love (Caipirinha) which is available here although I haven't tried it, and the gems such as Acai Na Tigela and Caldo De Cana, available next door, my food fave in Brazil is definitely, easily, the soups and stews and amazing dishes at the weighed buffets. NYC has a few of these weighed buffets but none, nowhere, are as good as Oasis.
There are 2 Oases side by side, actually. Same owners, totally different interior. This one is the Steakhouse, which is a weighed buffet of Brazilian food, and is a *must try* for absolutely everyone. I do believe you can order the items from the Cafe menu off the Steakhouse menu, so you should head over there if you're hungry. Or go here for lunch, and then go in there for dessert and snacks. Brazilian weighed buffet is to the lower income people of Brazil, what Churrascaria is to the rich. It must be tried. Insanely good. From next door, you need to get the Acai Bowl and the Caldo De Cana.
So back to the buffet. Definitely try all the wet items, and have a little bit of everything to see what you think. Bear in mind it is quite pricey, so don't overload your plate or you could easily pay $20. I'm aware that it's overpriced, but I feel it's so worth it. The only sad part is that they weigh based on the meats (Churrascaria style), so if you're just here for the soups and stews, which are by nature heavy, you're getting really overcharged. Still, very worth it.
The meats themselves are good, but it's not the reason I give 5 stars. I much prefer the Churrascaria meats in the chains (or locally owned) rich-person steakhouses such as Fogo De Chao, Texas De Brazil, and so on.
There is nowhere in Boston I would emplore you to visit more than the 2 Oases, side by side in Medford. This one for the wet stews in the weighed buffet, and then next door for some of the best Brazilian drink treats ever.
I just got dealt a hand of cards, I need at least two aces in order to win this game, hold on...
(looks at cards)
OH, ACES!
