Where to Eat Near the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) | Eater LA

"Breads and pastries vary from traditional to gluten-free at this casual Scandinavia-inspired Goleta shop, with another location in Santa Barbara proper. Stop in for something sweet or savory with the family." - Farley Elliott

Oat Bakery Review - Santa Barbara - The Infatuation

"Oat Bakery is a small Scandinavian bakery on Lower State Street that makes gorgeous seed-crusted bread loaves with organic ingredients, down to their sourdough starter. Don't expect to linger around with a coffee and pastry though, because it's not that kind of bakery. It's more of a grab-and-go operation where you pick up olive-studded focaccias and date-almond buns that you'll probably snack on in the car. The swirly blue and white sourdough is also a must-try, especially with the shop's vegan artichoke spread that should be generously slathered on top." - Sylvio Martins

Google
Great spot! Great food and super service. The owner and his wife are really nice. I had their granola and yogurt bowl, my husband had the Prosciutto and cheese sandwich. Both were delicious. We would definitely return. Highly recommend!

Google
So happy they’ve opened in Goleta! Highly recommend the rosemary olive focaccia :) We’ve tried several of their breads and pastries, they are all delicious! I also appreciate their veggie sandwich — perhaps the greenest and most flavorful veggie sandwich I’ve ever had.

Google
Incredible bread, unique baked goods, and breakfast bites. Get the Danish Breakfast sandwich and add prosciutto and habanero jam - you won't be sorry. In session, the tomato toast is not to be missed. Cute but small outdoor patio seating, interesting high end options to take out spreads from the fridge.

Google
Hidden gem--what a find for healthy and incredibly delicious food with tons of vegetarian options.

Google
Best bakery we have ever been to. You can tell it's fueled by love and pride. Had the cheese stick bread and the bean salad. Coffee was excellent too. People were nice and the little circular loaves were so tasty. Will be back again.

Google
We're regulars of Oat Bakery downtown but decided to go check out the Goleta location today and grab some bread and maybe a little lunch. At 2pm they were out of most of their prepared menu, but we were still able to get a Danish Breakfast sandwich and a Fava Bean Toast. So delicious, and perfect portions. We also tried a Lime & Salt Ghia Spritzer. Unexpected find! Service was great. Nice little outdoor patio that had some shade, where we could sit with our dog. And we found plenty of parking in the lot next to AutoZone.

Google
The best, most original bakery in the tri-county region. Real Danish-influenced flavors and great moisture content in all the baked goods. Love having this gem in our community.

Google
Oat has been a significant anchor point to what is becoming the Boom Years of Old Town. The new parking options and pedestrian/cycling friendliness along Hollister makes this is a great destination. My only complaint is that I want Oat to be open from 9am to 9pm every day. More hours, please. Keep those ovens firing and that good coffee brewing.

Yelp
Awesome new location in Old Town Goleta! Great bread and they said more to come in the coming year! Went in the other day and it smells of fresh baked bread. You can even see them make the bread right in fron The staff was also very friendly and I'm excited to this place add to the growing Old Town community!

Yelp
Beautiful breads. So worth the price. Glad to have them in Goleta. Bought a bunch of breads to eat that day and then froze the rest for future eats.

Yelp
Oat Bakery is such a gem! I wish the Goleta location was open more often! I love absolutely anything I've tried from there. It's always fresh and tasty and so so worth it! I usually get a loaf for friends and family while I'm in there bc it's a fan favorite and there is something for everyone! I am obsessed with the Hygge bun (pronounced Huga) it's so good! I also love any of the focaccias, the date loaf, and the sage and garlic loaf. If you haven't tried them yet, you definitely need to!! Staff is always friendly too :)

Yelp
This is a cute cafe to go to for a lighter breakfast or brunch! Their selection was pretty good and the size of their breads are fair. My absolute favorite was the miso scallion foccacia. I am so happy to snag the last piece!! This foccacia is the reason I want to go back. The sage garlic roll was also very good. This is a nice bakery to visit in Old Town Goleta. Their breads are fresh and I gotta come back for that focaccia!!

Yelp
The food was mid, but with a lot of potential. The bread was good on the prosciutto sandwich, but the rest was a mess. I really didn't appreciate how the sandwich was built. The filling was literally a huge mound in the middle. I loved the prosciutto, but couldn't really appreciate the fact that it was paired with 3 layers of cheese eslicThe cheese was entirely too thick, like 3 layers of cheese is a lot, especially when they're improperly put in the sandwich as a giant stack. It's like the person making it has never eaten it before. The ingredients have a lot of potential if they were better distributed and the ratio was tuned better. Being a fan of a good sandwich with great bread, I wish I could rate this higher.

Yelp
Had a beautifully made by Sheldon! She was super sweet and helpful when making my sandwich. It was very tasty and I enjoyed the bread the most! The sandwich was beautifully made and will definitely return to try another one of the specials!

Yelp
Delicious seasonal toasts and baked goods. I love their hygge buns and their olive foccacia!

Yelp
I liked everything about this place. My coffee and farmers market frittata were excellent. I can't wait to come back to try the breads and pastries. They all look delicious.

Yelp
Good service, decent options both vegan and non-vegan. I'd go again especially since a local eatery.

Yelp
My coworkers were excited to try the new Oat Bakery in Goleta, so we stopped by for lunch. The atmosphere is amazing, clean establishment, friendly employees and fun music. They have freshly made bread and pastries and also some homemade goodies in the fridge too. Two coworkers ordered the Lima bean soup and enjoyed it and one ordered some marbles bread with butter, whhchlooked amazing.

Yelp
Do they still say this place is the bomb? Well if so this place is it. An explosion of fresh, organic, wonderful flavors will delight your taste buds. Tried a couple pastries and the Hygge Bun was amazing with lots of cinnamon and a light sweetness. Also tried the turkey and veggie sandwiches and both were so good I'm still not sure which one was better. Came back for more later in the afternoon and many items were sold out. Great service too and good prices for flavors you will remember. I'll be back. Read more about Oat Bakery at: https://www.independent.com/2023/05/20/oat-bakery-expands-to-old-town-goleta/.

Yelp
Have been coming here less and less as the quality has sadly fallen. Frosnappers seem 1/3 of the size and are often burned now. They taste nothing like they used to. The bread is still very good but is extremely expensive. Also, the counter service is just that - counter service - so the preprogrammed tip amounts at the register are just over the top. Hopefully once the Montecito location is underway this place will return to its former quality.

Yelp
I have been to Santa Barbara many times and this is the first time I have wondered into Old Town Goleta. Oat Bakery is a fantastic little spot that serves fresh ingredients with great customer service. The bread is delicious. They have an outdoor dining area that is perfect to relax and enjoy the quiet neighborhood. I truly enjoyed my turkey sandwich and look forward to coming back.

Yelp
Wow! The date hygge bun is dynamite! Bought one to share with my daughter and wish we would have bought two :) Also can't wait to slice into the charcoal sourdough loaf we brought home. It's gorgeous

Yelp
Went on a Saturday morning wasn't too busy and staff was really nice! Their bread is good and sandwiches are tasty.

Yelp
Oat in Santa Barbara has amazing bread and Oat in Goleta is no different. I don't even need or prefer gluten-free bread. but I will always buy anything from Oat because it's just top-notch baked goods. Their olive focaccia is off the hook and they have tons of lovely chewy seedy yums that are truly delicious. These are clearly artisan products and though expensive it's indicative of that adage 'you get what you pay for.' Either location is great! This location has some seating while the Santa Barbara location does not, so that is nice to have if you want to chill out for a bit. A great addition to Old Town Goleta.

Yelp
Take a jaunt to Copenhagen without ever stepping foot on an aircraft. The vibe is very Euro hygge with a clean yet modern feel (think upscale IKEA). While the OG miniature (literally a walk-up window) Oak Bakery location is downtown off Haley and State Streets, this one has slowly been increasing its production as the primary facility. Sadly, their selection of products still remain a bit limited. They do normally offer at least one gluten free option here which is a perk. Their breakfast and lunch selections always change, hence the black permanent marker on tape stuck to the counter. I personally enjoy their Hygge Bun (organic unbleached wheat flour, house made organic oat milk, organic walnuts, organic dates, organic cinnamon, cardamom, agave, organic coconut oil & organic hemp seeds) which is slightly sweet with date. It makes me feel slightly healthy while enjoying a carbohydrate treat given the superfood ingredients. On Tuesdays and Saturdays you can find them at the farmer's market with their Country Sourdough. I wish they had an espresso machine, yet I understand they don't want to compete with their Old Town Coffee neighbor. For that reason, they serve Prolog drip coffee out of Denmark. Nonetheless, I look forward to what they have in store in the future.

Yelp
I walked down to this location for lunch while my car was being serviced at Toyota. I had the veggie sandwich - jalapeño spread (mild fortunately for me), avocado, cilantro, cucumber and lettuce on their focaccia bread. So good!

David S.

Yelp
Better options in the area. No real seating with shade and kind of dirty. For $15 for a turkey sandwich I'd rather head over to three pickles.

Yelp
The bread is divine! Fresh, perfect consistency, our loaf had dates and nuts. Super tasty - it's hard not to eat the entire loaf in one sitting.

Yelp
The bread here descends from the heavens. It is simply next level and incredibly fresh.

Yelp
Incredibly thoughtful business, from every inch of their decor to their menu. The staff is exceptional and very friendly! They also stock the yummiest treats to go, from drinks to lovely oils and tin fish!
