Obbie's Pizza

My great grandparents loved ordering this Pizza throughout my life. I have always been very fond of Obbies Pizza. I love picking up a Pizza from Obbies anytime I'm in this neighborhood. I will literally go right to a park with my kids and eat an Obbies Pizza!!! I wish they had it to where you could dine-in at this place. I'm sure they would do very well. Anyway, they have a great pizza and you won't be disappointed.

I am still giving it 4 stars because I want to the new owner to correct the issue. The topping, cheese , sauce all tasted delicious and that pizza looked the same. I do miss being able to watch them make the pizza while I wait. Bad: I always arrive early because I want the pizza fresh out of the oven but something has changed with crust and it doesn’t have same amount if any cornmeal on the crust, so it’s missing that flavor and no longer crispy. I do not know if this is because of the cornmeal or just needing to be left in oven additional 3-5 mins. I always eat a couple slices outside because i love the crispy crust even getting home the crust was always still firm and crispy after 15 min drive I did go back in and told the staff and informs them several other people have left reviews about the crust and I am noticing the same thing. I hope more people speak up and just don’t stop going to Obbie’s so they know what needs to be corrected.

First time trying since owners changed. Very disappointing. Was told it would be ready in 25 min. There I was 50 min later still no pizza. Pizza definitely tasted different and the crust was noticeably different. Old Obbies would’ve never put this much sauce on their pizza. Just a sloppy mess It’s a shame. Nothing will beat the old Obbies I guess it’s time to just order Pizza Hut.

Gave this place another chance but was disappointed, we were a faithful customer and ordered pizza every Friday night. But since the new ownership it’s not the same. Flavor is good but too soggy.😩👎What did they do to change it?

We had to try Obbie's as I was visiting my daughter in Oak Lawn. I seen on the Illinois Storm Chasers post that it was the best pizza. It was good. It's the best I've had since my daughter moved there. Only suggestion is a little more cheese please for what the price of the pizza is.

Been living in the area forever and didn’t know about this Gem until last year!!! Pizza is thin crust and super crispy. The sauce and sausage make it even yummier! Super Awesome cause you can watch the Pizza Artist at work while wiaiting through the window. Customer service is 100% and always friendly. Always get the order right. My son raves about their wis as well! Must try! Sorry ate up the pizza before we could take a pic. They are not skimpy on the always fresh toppings!

Drove to Chicago from TN for the first time ever to the city. Some friends of ours introduced us to Chicago with THIS pizza. It was awesome! Loved your pizza and your city, Obbies!

Easily the best pizza in the area. Consistently great with a friendly staff. I was very worried when I saw it was for sale, but the new owner seems to have kept the recipe the same so far. The remodel adds a nice retro charm to the small pickup area. I love the old school paneling. Great choice!

I have been a regular at this establishment for many years, but the change in ownership has sadly led to a decline in the quality of their crust. The once thin and crispy cornmeal crust has replaced with an inferior version. To add insult to injury, the garlic bread that came with my broasted chicken dinner was also disappointing, lacking the soft and chewy texture that I've grown accustomed to. In its current state, I cannot recommend this establishment. Note: the cheese topping was a 5 very good but the crust is a 1.

Gave Obbie's a shot for late night delivery, guy on the phone was no nonsense in the best way possible. They were good delivering to us a few miles away...allowed me to throw a tip on the card for driver (nice). Driver had food to our door, albeit a little cooled off in about 45 min....he was extremely thankful for the tip which I appreciated! Ordered the fried chicken, it's broasted which gives the skin an unmistakable crisp and juicy meat. 4.8/5 chicken, so solid! On to the main event, ordered a medium cheese...was excited for the tavern style that I fell in love with down at Nick and Vito's earlier in the year. Pizza was heavy on the cheese...definitely a blend beyond mozz, maybe provolone..was a little too skunky for my liking. Cheese was well cooked, best part of pizza. Sauce lacked the sweetness i like on a tavern, wasn't bad, maybe a bit too mild. The crust was the miss for me, it was too thick and bready- not hot and definitely not crisp. It took away from what I appreciate most about the tavern pizza which was disappointing. In the end, it's a +1 for the service and the chicken was phenomenal...it missed for me on the pizza, your mileage may vary..

I am so full because Obbie's over served with best food. I love their pizza always delicious. The cornmeal on the bottom of the crust makes it even better BUT the BROASTED CHICKEN is the best chicken I have ever had. Ordering a pizza and thought I heard something about their Broasted Chicken. Ordered a 4 piece bucket. Brought it home about 6 miles. So crunchy and juicy. I just wanted a bite to taste because the pizza was the main event. I could not stop eating the piece of chicken. Of course I had some pizza but and it is delicious. But have to say the Broasted Chicken was the star!! Broasted Chicken is very unique and not really available. You can look up the story behind Broasted Chicken it's interesting. These pictures do not do justice to one of the best meals.

My go to pizza spot in the area. If you're looking to sit down and eat, this is a take out spot fyi. Never had issues over the year with ordering over the phone, staff has always been friendly, and the pizza always consistent. Never had issues with delivery either. I do prefer this over trianos- nothing against them just my preference. I always thought this pizza was crispier in comparison and overall slightly better. I always ask to get it slices in pie style as well. Just good consistent Chicago style pizza that you should try if you're in the area.

Can I give this place a solid 3.5? Decent tavern style pizza serving the Southside. I was devastated to hear that my favorite Southside pizza place closed down and Obbies came to the rescue. We called ahead and were instantly put on hold for like ten minutes. We finally get someone and you can hear the craziness behind the phone. We ordered our thin crust pizza and headed there. Our pizza took about 45 minutes and upon arrival, Obbies had the makings of a great pizza shop. Hole in the wall look, busy with customers in and out, people in the back busy making those pies. We finally got back to my in-laws home (along with a couple 1-Liter RC colas of course) and started on it. Overall, I would revisit the sauce and revamp it because it was mediocre. A mediocre sauce will make everything a little off. It was still decent for sure. Pricing was also pretty good. Service was a bit lackluster. I would give this place another shot and hopefully by then, they figure out that sauce situation, it was just a bit too tangy. They serve sandwiches and other things too.

I'm a rideshare driver and a passenger recommended this pizza saying it is a neighborhood favorite. I found it to be too greasy. I did like the sausage.

My husband's favorite pizza place (and he grew up in the neighborhood). I have other friends that are also obsessed. Mary is the BEST delivery driver!!! It's important to me to have a female driver and she is AMAZING! Our pizza is always hot and fresh. Not to mention delicious! We refer Obbie's all the time.

Good old time neighborhood pizza place. It's been around for many years. You won't be disappointed

New owners took over but left the original name and now it's horrible but I didn't like the point that they never changed the name so people would know before ordering.

In my opinion not the same quality and taste with the New ownership of OBBIES PIZZA .Also did not honor Their own advertise coupons that was in the Chicago sun-times. Very disappointed with the new management at OBBIES PIZZA.

It's just not the same after Nick died. Greasy as ever and no longer worth the $$$. I wish I could support this local business as I know it's important for the community but after several fails, I just can't do it anymore.

A family favorite since the early 1980s. Been enjoying this local neighborhood pizza for decades. It had been a long time since I had Obbie's Pizza. Recently ordered as part of the super bowl feast and the taste of their pizza flooded me with great nostalgic memories. This place will forever be an all-time favorite! I'm not repeating our trauma. Just look at the photos and see what their driver MIKE did when my husband wouldn't take the credit card receipt because he had put it in his mouth. We watched him do this from our security camera. We were assaulted and feel utterly violated and the owner was just as abusive over the phone. We are seniors and this man totally abused us. He also took my neighbors handicapped parking. The pizza was paid for in advance by credit card on the phone AS USUAL. He then took to pounding on our glass door for several minutes after we shut the door. There is one other review with the actual video posted by an occupant. Frightening!

Highly recommend this great neighborhood pizza place ! One of the best ! Great place for one of the best pizza's! Food is awesome ! From my experience the service is outstanding! When you walk in you see the Giant pizza oven that makes it all happen! Very clean ! You will find out why it's Chicago's Best!

Not sure what going on here. This was THE pizza joint to go to, not anymore. Weird taste, not sure if it's the sauce or cheese but almost smells and tastes like soap.

Great pizza but the last couple of times we had delivered and the pizza was cold. Its sad. They need to have their delivery people deliver the pizza in boxes like other pizza places. I give the pizza a 5 star and their pizza covered just in paper a 0.

Great pizza. The thin crust was amazing. One of the best pizzas I've ever had. I also got the mushrooms. Very good. I believe they make them there. Didn't taste like frozen.

Another southside classic that does tavern style the right way. Carry out only, no nonsense menu and service, and the best crust around. Salty crust with a little bit of char, some of that caramelized cheese around the edges, and the slightly sweet sauce sing in harmony. Don't sleep on the institution that is Obbie's!

obbie's Pizza is my go to place for pizza I no longer live in Chicago and have to travel some distance to get it but it is so worth it it's greasy but great my specialty is sausage mushroom and green pepper. I called on the phone and order it and immediately get in the car to travel a half an hour to pick it up.

I was not that impressed. I thought the pizza was exceptionally greasy and was sort of a poor man's foxes pizza. No offense to anyone at all, it just wasn't my type of pizza.

I'm not sure why this place was featured on Chicago's best. Imho this place can't stand in the shadow of some of Chicago's greatest pizza establishments. There's nothing that separates this from Pizza you can find in the frozen section at your local grocer. I was simply trying to break up the monotony of My regular pizza but to make the trek here especially during rush hour turned out to be a negative experience. The pizza was brought out to me curbside by an employee & it was piping hot to their credit however that's where the compliments stop. The inside is also extremely bare as in no menu board or anything. Just a business lobby with a refrigerator for sodas. The pizza was also huge as I opted for an xl in anticipation for some greatness however now I'm left with a sad rendition of a huge pizza

Very good, fresh thin crust pizza! Do not expect crust to be a feature on this pizza because it is flat to the edge. Checkout is always busy & not very engaging/answering the phone: pay & go. Friendly & appreciative customer service, though.

I had a friend that lived in hillside that came to visit and we ordered from Obbies Pizza. It was delivered and with half of the first piece in his mouth he said where'd you get this? He's a very picky eater and for the most part hates italian food. After taking the menu with him, He would occasionally go the 7 miles from home to get a pizza. I don't have to tell you that it's great pizza, do I?

I have had Obbies many times over the last 5 years. My wife's family has had it regularly since they've opened. Not sure what happened but what was once a 5 star pizza is now well below average. It was not just one aspect of the pizza. The sauce tasted different, the sausage was very generic, the cheese was flavorless, the amount of meat was poor and the crust was just not good. Very disappointing. It's not worth anywhere near what they charge for this. Greed and arrogance in the food industry has appeared to rear its ugly head.

Smh nasty! I'm not sure who they have cooking on Sundays but never ever again. My pizza tasted like bear, no cheese on it really, the sauce was sour like can tomatoes. My my Onion rings was dry and hard, to top it off the meat balls on my meat ball sandwich was way under cooked still pink. Done

Simply the best! I have moved out of state and must get my Obbie's fix whenever I am back in town. To me, the sauce is a big reason this pizza is superior. It is not heavy nor overly sweet like some sauces with a heavier tomato paste base. The crust is crispy and light, and the cheese blend delicious. Try it, you'll love it!

Best thin crust in the city. Dont fall for the Vito and nicks trap, the pizza is better at obbies and half the price

Obbie's is by far one of the best pizza places in the area...and I'm not just saying that because I worked there back in the 80's during high school! Their thin crust is always perfectly done, and hasn't changed in all the years since my family lived in the area and ordered from them every Friday for dinner...which is appreciated, because some things - like great pizza - don't need to change. Chicken dinners are crispy and juicy, and their beef sandwiches are just phenomenal. I've tried pretty much every pizza in the south side / south suburbs. Obbie's was and still is one of the best.

I went to this place after working all day. I wanted to pig out on a tavern style pizza, thin crust, drink some beer and call it a night. I thought to give Obbie's a try. I ordered a half pepperoni/half sausage garlic pizza well done, pie cut: the usual. Yelpers, I have to give it to ya, you were right about this place. Is the pizza greasy? Yep. Is the place a hole in the wall? Yep. Have you had better pizza? Yep. Is the ingredients all the way to the edge of the pizza? Yep. Do they have good sausage? Yep. Would I come back again? I doubt it. The sausage side of the pizza tasted like pizza should taste. The pepperoni side was missing something. Something. But I did love the edges, that semi-burnt, caramelized cheese is something special. The place is transparent, so I did enjoy watching them make pizzas. I bet in the summer it is cool to watch them work through the front window. As it should be. If it was up to me, I would give this place 2.5 stars, so I am being nice about this. I would come back again and try their fried chicken, but why would I do that when the best fried chicken around is right across the street from this joint???

BEST PIZZA I'VE HAD IN MONTHS!!!!! I've had them bookmarked for months. I always saying I'm stopping by & haven't. Well 2night I'm craving fried shrimp, I decide to try another bookmark Shrimp Shack & they were closed! Guess what was across the street?? Obbie's!!!!! I walked in & ordered a small sausage/green pepper/mushroom, with extra sauce well done. Young girl says 15-20 mins. I'm skeptical it'll be well done enough, but at this point WHATEVER. I go back to the car for 20 mins come back and it's packaged & ready for take out. Hmmmmmmmmmm I get to the car & take it out, it's BEAUTIFUL!!! I Excitedly ate half the pizza LMAO yes I couldn't wait the 30min drive. I burned the roof of my mouth it was so hot. SOLD!!!!!! MY NEW FAVORITE PIZZA SPOT

Excellent pizza. We had a thin crust sausage mushroom. Their sauce is so delicious. They made delivery very quickly too.

This has become my favorite pizza in the neighborhood, the only reason I am only giving 4 stars is because from time to time when I try calling to place an order their phones are down! I get "your call cannot be completed at this time please try again later" and this has happened on more than one occasion. This forces me to settle for other pizza places in the neighborhood that are not as satisfying, I really wish they would fix this issue :(

This place is fantastic. It's going on my Mt. Rushmore of chicago pizzas. I'd call it a cross between Vito and nicks and Fox's in beverly. Sauce Is great, corn meal bottom. Getting it well done is the way to go. So glad I ventured to Garfield Ridge ti try this place. Will be back many times!!!

Obbie's's pizza is some of the best in the city! Friends of mine just did a pizza trolley tour and one of them picked up Obbie's. They're all north siders. They all messaged me about how good it was and it was their favorite of all the pizza they tasted. Ignore any reviews that say the pizza is bad. They have bad taste! ;)

I was out having drinks at a local watering hole and ordered a pizza from Obbie's. Fast and awesome. Love their pizza. Only problem was the delivery guy forgot the crushed red pepper and extra parm cheese even though I asked for it when I placed the order. Not a deal breaker. I'll make sure I check the order before he leaves the next time

This is our favorite place to order thin crust in the neighborhood. Delivery is almost always on time or a little easier than expected although one of the delivery guys, an order fella, is rude when he delivers. He just seems like the kind of person who hates everything - but I can't hold that against them. When we order we always ask for extra sauce since it's usually cheese only on the pizza. We also always ask that they do NOT put the tinfoil over the top of the pizza and about half the time they remember to leave it off. The other half of the time, we tear a lot of cheese off the top of the pizza. I think when you get toppings the foil is unable to stick to the cheese but when there are no topping... it's a flawed process as the it sticks very solidly to the cheese and it kind of ruins it for us. Good pizza - great crust and sauce and we like it a lot. It lives up to the name. In my opinion, Villa Nova a couple miles north is the best thin crust around but this is a happy second place.

If you like thin crust, and I'm talking "thin" - then you must try Obbie's. Its not wafer-cracker-crust thin like Vito and Nick's, and unless you've had Vito and Nick's, please don't argue with me ;) Obbie's has more texture; flaky. Sauce has a great flavor, almost reminds me of a good Italian gravy (aka sauce). Mild, tasty and just the right amount to balance crust and toppings. Sausage is very good. All the toppings / cheese just meld perfectly with every bite. Its sort-of addicting... Went with all mushroom, half sausage, half pepperoni. After one bite, you just want another, and another, and another. This isn't a 'heavy' pizza. Toppings are generous and fresh...and you don't feel like a heffer after eating it...but I will say, it does not reheat well. You'll get a limp crust and not the full Obbie's experience the next day. Better to eat when its super fresh and hot. We also got an Italian beef to try, and it wasn't good. Really salty and had a funky flavor. I don't recommend. Word to the wise - they get VERY busy. Its more of a take-out joint, but they deliver also. We placed our order fairly early on a weekend and the wait was about an hour. Personally, I think that's a long time to wait to pick up your pizza, but then again - when I want pizza, I want it NOW. I need to work on being more pizza patient ;) Give it a try! Never tasted a pizza like Obbie's - its one of a kind...you'll get hooked.

Love the pizza. Been going there for years. Onion rings also a plus. Xtra crispy way to go.

I've lived in Garfield Ridge for almost 10 years and sadly only started coming here the past few months. Saw them on Chicago's Best and decided to give it a try after seeing they use fresh ingredients (no canned mushrooms). Me and my family have been ADDICTED every since. We pace ourselves and order about every 2 weeks now lol. Best pizza in the neighborhood by far, a throwback spot that has lasted for a good reason.

Obbie's Pizza is top notch! Definitely the best in Garfield Ridge area. The crust is always crisp to perfection, I always make sure to ask for mine well done. The sausage and sauce have just the right flavor you're looking for in a pizza. Also, even on their busiest nights you can manage to get your pie within about 25-30 min. for pickup! You can't go wrong with the Obbie's Special or just the plain old sausage & mushroom too.

Obbie's is mine and my family's favorite pizza in the entire Chicagoland area, HANDS DOWN. Both of my parents are from this area, but moved north years ago. They still will make trips down to the south side just to grab some Obbie's. It's THAT good. Nothing beats a sausage deep dish well done and an XL thin crust with sausage & green peppers. Obbie's is the best... nuff said:).
