"The historical hamlet of Kohlhof, nestled in an idyllic location above Heidelberg, among meadows and fruit trees, is something of a gourmet island in the forest. Exuding rural allure, the cobbled courtyard is your first port of call: sip on an aperitif, before moving on to the charming, lovingly decorated dining room, which has a pleasantly intimate atmosphere. In the open kitchen, a cleverly devised modern set menu of 13 delicacies is rustled up. Chef Robert Rädel cooks creatively, setting great store by regional and seasonal ingredients, many of which come from the surrounding area, including the wine. The chefs also get involved in serving and explaining the dishes. In between courses, guests are occasionally whisked off to the kitchen, where they can chat with the team at the small chef's table. Only German wines are stocked in the wine cellar – walk in and choose yours! N.B. My wife and I had the pleasure of dining here last summer and to this day, we still recall the delicious food and unique experience we had that day. Whether it is the excellent conception, the creative presentation of the dishes, the diversity of ingredients, the endless cooking methods and superb techniques, it is all amazing, giving us surprises one after another. The location and atmosphere is great as well. If I have to nitpick, it would be the difficulty of getting a reservation because it is extemely popular!

Just had an amazing meal at Oben! I am visiting Heidelberg for the summer and had tried unsuccessfully to get a table. A spot opened up on the waitlist for a day I couldn't actually attend, but Robert was very accommodating and communicative and got me a table the very next week. The food was delicious, and they were able to make a pescatarian version on short notice for my friend. My favorite was the charred cabbage with eel! The wine pairings were also quite noteworthy, my favorite being a Georg Lingenfelder Silvaner. Would love to go back :)

My Heidelberg experience completely changed last night after an excellent dinner at Oben. It showed me Heidelberg’s best. From beginning to end, the creativity and honesty of the dishes did not stop. Pork dish was my favorite for the evening and trout for my partner. But the last dish of lettuce and raspberry was simply extraordinary. I visited Heidelberg from Japan where food and seasonality are always considered and I saw that at Oben. I will definitely come back when I’m in the Heidelberg again. What I found I interesting experience also was the payment - it’s bank transfer lol, but nonetheless a great experience.
