Best Restaurants in Fredericksburg, Texas | Eater Austin

"Unwind at the wine and chocolate bar in Ocotillo, where silky drinking chocolates are sourced from Colombia, Madagascar, Mexico, and Vietnam and served by flight ($14) or in a mug for $8, with the option to add espresso. Pair your drinking chocolate with the decadent double chocolate chip cookie with Texas pecans and finish with a glass from one of its self-pour machines. If you have time, dip into its sister lounge, Six Twists. The Champagne bar offers a unique selection of sparkling wines and is currently the only establishment in Texas to import and serve N.V. Paul Dethune Champagne Grand Cru Extra Brut. At Six Twists, visitors can choose between four types of Champagne flights, including a sampling of rosé or its Wild Card flight, a lineup of eccentric sparkling wines featuring pours from India and Slovenia. Take the experience up a notch by adding a single bump of caviar or a flight of three different caviars, curated by owner and caviar sommelier Melissa Humphries." - Brittany Britto Garley

I’m the owner of Mead Wine Tours — a fully customized, concierge-style wine tour service based right here in town. I’ve visited nearly every tasting room and wine bar in the area, and I can confidently say this: You won’t find better quality wine at any wine bar in town than what Ocotillo is pouring. Not only do they showcase some of the finest wines Texas has to offer, but their curated selection also includes exceptional wines from California and Europe, making it a standout for both local and international palates. If you’re looking for authenticity, craftsmanship, and serious flavor — Ocotillo should be at the top of your list.

This was the highlight of our trip to Fredricksburg. We had not only some of the best wine we’ve ever drank, but amazing cookies and brownies as well. The owner was so kind and explained all of the variations of wine available on tap, and she happily answered our (many) questions. She was super knowledgeable and helped guide us towards wines she thought we would like best based on our individual preferences. The food and atmosphere are also incredible. Definitely a must try on Main Street!

Ocotillo has turned a Fredericksburg-skeptic into a fan. We stumbled into this lovely wine bar on the road back from Marfa, and ended up hanging for a several hours with its wonderful steward, Jeri. That magical evening turned into a birthday trip — I truly couldn’t wait to go back! We had amazing wine, and scrumptious food. But the best part of all is Jeri. She is incredibly knowledgeable, passionate, and helped facilitate a deeper curiosity for wine — a subject which has historically felt intimidating to me. She may very well be one of the coolest, most interesting people in Texas. Truly, I love Ocotillo and I can’t wait for our next adventure in the Hill Country!

Ocotillo is exactly what I was looking for out of a wine tasting when I came to Fredericksburg. It's a small, intimate wine bar tucked in the courtyard behind Six Twists with local and imported wines abound and a specially curated collection of whites and reds on a tap system that can be bought in increments of 1oz, half pour, and full pour. The owner and curator of this wine bar (Jeri? Jerry? Gerry?) may be the nicest person in Fredericksburg. They are so intelligent and eloquent in how they present and explain the wines here. If you can swing by while they're not super busy I fully recommend getting the full tasting and getting the run down on everything. On top of the wines I think I had the best brownie and cookie of my life here, I need to come back for the drinking chocolate tasting (which can be paired with the wines, incredibly) and keep an eye out for some of the upcoming menu items they have. I saw an espresso machine behind the counter, but must have missed what it was for in my amazement for all that this tiny little wine bar had to offer. Thank you all so much!

Great atmosphere and very friendly service. You can buy a wine card and try different wines from the machine. Get the cookies as well. A relaxing atmosphere and they have a wide selection of wines

This was our first stop on our trip. Such a unique and cozy spot! The wines were delicious and being able to visit with the owners just added to the experience.

I truly love visiting Ocotillo. The new management is so friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. The chill vibe inside and the courtyard area are so relaxing. I love the delicious mocktails that are cell considered and not gimmicky, as well as the delicious lite bites that are perfect for everyone and include things for a difficult eater like me with gluten free and vegan options. They also offer low alcohol options which is a welcome diversity in this wine town. 15/10 recommend!

Love the self-serve wine dispensers and sampling by the ounce, 1/2 glass, or full glass. Drinking at my own pace in the Courtyard and zero tipping is a nice alternative sometimes.

Yelp
Excited to try this new wine bar, just a short walk from our usual Fredericksburg lodging site. It did not disappoint! Beautiful ambience both inside and out. Particularly loved the self serve wine station with a wonderfully curated selection of wines, which we paired with an assortment of chocolate bonbons to accompany our relaxing afternoon visit. The staff were welcoming and pleasant, the other patrons were also sociable and friendly. It's always a good sign when the locals choose to spend their time and money there too. We will certainly be back on our next visit to Fredericksburg!

Yelp
Loved everything about this place! The wine and drinking flight were equally delicious. The tapas were also amazing. We enjoyed sharing the empanadas, cornbread, and olive tapenade. It's rare that I walk away buying two bottles of wine from one tasting. Thank you for such an enjoyable evening! Add Ocotillo Wine Bar to your must-experience list when visiting Fredericksburg. You won't be disappointed!
