"SB has many tips of the hat to its predecessor Odessa Restaurant, including this pickled beet salad flavored with dill, but then it shoots off in a nutsy direction with shards of pretzel, sesame seeds, and an underlying bed of jalapeno cream cheese. Totally satisfying, but it will leave you scratching your head in wonder." - Robert Sietsema

"East Village: The 24-hour Ukrainian diner Odessa has officially shut down and the space is on the market, according to the real estate broker managing the sale. Previously, the restaurant’s former owners said that they planned to bring the space back to life this year after the diner ceased operations last July. The owners are now retired, according to the broker." - Erika Adams

This place is awesome. They've got cheap diner classics as well as some Ukrainian staples. It's quiet, unassuming, never to busy, the perfect amount of people watching... It's great. It's a 24/7 diner that you might not even notice on the street. Perfect for a late night snack or a meetup with friends. You might even recognize this spot from the Netflix show Russian Dolls.

If you are around the East village, NY you definitely need to go and try the monte cristo French toast, simple, back to basic and delicious!

Huge quantity of food in each serving, even if it doesn't feel like it's the healthiest. Wait staff were extremely friendly, it felt like everybody in the restaurant was family. Inexpensive, good for a low-key, no-frills experience.

Really good food and I love that they have skylights in the back of the restaurant. Such a throwback to restaurants years ago. You don't see that very much anymore in New York City. Quality food is really good. My girlfriend and I both enjoyed it very much. We'll definitely be going back. They can handle larger crowds like 10 people in the back of the restaurant.

I wandered into this diner after late birthday to get some grub. It was moderately filled for after midnight which I knew already was a good sign. The staff was polite and very helpful. I picked perogies and was pleasantly surprised with the result. Maybe my late night dining experienced was biased but I got to say this diner charmed me.

Food was good. Sunday around 8:30, not many patrons but service was undesirable. Had to call over the waiter for the first refill coffee, couldn’t find him for a second. Had to flag him down after about 20mins to take the order. Waiter never showed back up after delivering the food.

For a Greek owned diner, they sure know how to whip up a good Polish dish. They know the secret to keeping a successful diner you bought out is to master the dishes that made it successful in the first place. These guys are amazing at what they do. The portions are generous and the staff are beyond friendly. This diner is a staple of the East Village eateries.
