Off The Hook - Review - Mystic - Mystic - The Infatuation

"When a seafood market opens a restaurant, you know the fish and shellfish are going to be quality. That is indeed true for Off The Hook, which is a counter-service spot in downtown Mystic from the J&R Seafood team. They have a pretty wide selection: fried halibut sandwiches with crispy lettuce and tangy tartar, poke bowls with ruby red tuna, and a flight of three small lobster rolls. It’s a gift for the indecisive lobster lover as you get one hot and buttery, one cold with chives and mayo, and even one that’s tempura style. Take it with you back to your boat, the park, or your back deck, and know that they deliver to the local day sail, the Agria. photo credit: Lisa Nichols photo credit: Lisa Nichols photo credit: Lisa Nichols photo credit: Lisa Nichols Pause Unmute" - Tanya Edwards

Google
Off the Hook was absolutely delish. My lobster flight was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. A truly standout meal! My son was thrilled to have a Del’s lemonade. The staff was super friendly too. A perfect spot for fresh seafood and family-friendly fun in Mystic!

We had an order of two hot lobsters rolls, clam fritters and a bowl of NE clam chowder. The lobster rolls were packed with fresh lobster and the bread was super fresh and toasted with butter on both sides. The clam fritters were supposed to be loaded with clam bits but that was not the case. There were scant little pieces but they were few and far between. The NE Clam chowder was also supposed to be loaded with bits of clam and bacon but it was nothing more than potato chowder. The lobster rolls were amazing but I would not order the clam chowder or the fritters again.

We ordered their fried halibut (Nashville hot) sandwich, fried fish tacos, clam chowder, and a mixed order of the scallops and corn fritters/clam fritters. We would give the sandwich a 6/10 since it had a lot of breading on it which made it difficult to really taste the fish. The fried tacos were ok..but I felt like it needed some flavor seasoning (6/10). Some Sriracha aioli would have made it better rather than plain tartar sauce 👍 I'm sorry, but the clam chowder was absolutely terrible. It was so watery and had no flavor (0/10 would not recommend). It was not a chowder at all. The clam fritters were pretty plain, so we preferred the scallops and corn fritters since it had more flavor. If you're in the area and looking for a snack, we would recommend trying the scallops and corn fritters! Cashier was super friendly and nice 👍

Superbly fresh seafood from local boats presented in both classic and creative ways. A divine lobster roll trio of classic butter, lemon aioli, and tempura with spicy mayo is the coastal flavor bomb of my dreams! Pure heaven! Sensational mini fritters are packed with fresh, large chunks of clam, scallop, or shrimp for a perfect walking snack. Beer battered cod fish and chips are cleverly cut into “finger” shapes to make outdoor dining easier and the hand cut fries are divine. I brought home a classic tuna poke bowl for dinner but shrimp or lobster salad poke bowls are all completely customizable. The smash burger with hand cut fries was messy but also delicious. Don't miss this mid-day stop as they are open 11am-6pm on the corner of West Main and Pearl Streets. Curb delivery and cute mercy too.

Although it’s a small place, it’s a fantastic spot for a lobster roll—so far, my favorite! If you order the regular lobster roll, it comes hot, fresh, and just melts in your mouth. My go-to is the lobster flight, and every bite is absolutely delicious. Definitely a 5 out of 5 for me!

The lobster roll trip was hands down the best food we had on our trip. The tempura roll with spicy mayo was absolutely amazing.

Google
Stopped in for a quick bite and we were not disappointed! I always try a lobster roll on all our trips if we’re on the coast and this one was sooooo good. We were also pleasantly surprised by how good the fries are—we got the malt vinegar aioli for dipping and it was delicious! They’ve only been open a few weeks but they’re killing it. Would love to try one of their poke bowls on our next visit, I bet they’re good too. The owner and his employees were super friendly and welcoming. We had a nice time and we were stuffed when we left! We’ll be back next year!

Google
Definitely miss youngbun doughnuts but off the hook fills that void in my life. The fish tacos were so crispy and full of flavor. The poke bowl had giant chunks of fresh tuna with great flavor as well. Cannot recommend enough.

Yelp
With every restaurant on Mystic's Main St touting that they have the best lobster roll, and having tried my fair share of them, I have to give the title to Off the Hook. The Hot Lobster Roll was $29 and heaped with buttery lobster in a toasty, fluffy split top bun. We went for an early dinner at 5pm and although this casual eatery is small inside with limited seating, we were able to find a table, service was quick, and the bathroom was clean. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
We stopped in for lunch on a Monday in late September. There were other diners when we arrived but it was not crowded and we were able to place our order quickly. The restaurant is small. It can only seat about 10 people. It's clean and has a welcoming feel. The food... We wanted to get the clam chowder, but they were out. So, we got a dozen raw oysters, fish tacos and a lobster roll. - The oysters had grit. It wasn't a pleasant experience to eat for $3.50 a piece. I'd go elsewhere for raw oysters. - The lobster roll was ok. It was kind of bland. We've had better. - Where they redeemed themselves a little bit was with the fish tacos. The fish was lightly fried and tender. The corn salsa and sauce complimented the fish very well.

Yelp
Fair price, quick service, buttery gold! We had the hot lobster rolls and order of fries! The lobster rolls come with potato chips ( not noted on menu)! Everything came out hot and delicious! Super casual atmosphere which we appreciated mid day for a quick lunch!

Yelp
Off The Hook is a new seafood spot in Downtown Mystic. The name was very well thought out and definitely part of the overall marketing scheme. As an extension of the well-known J&R Seafood Market, it maintains high quality fresh seafoods that are quite literally caught daily "off the hook". Super friendly local family and staffing, a great addition to the area, with an overall great experience. The menu features creative options like lobster roll flights, a build-your-own poke bowl bar, fish taco trios, and more-all designed for quick and delicious dining. With a relaxed atmosphere and an innovative take on seafood, Off The Hook is a go-to destination for both locals and visitors looking for a flavorful and easygoing meal- all equally " off the hook" That poke bowl thou Cheers

Yelp
Stopped in on our way out of Mystic as we wanted to give it a try. We ordered one dish off of their small plates menu - the lobster risotto pops. The dish was good. However, it took 25-30 minutes for us to receive our food - which was 1 small plate. The restaurant has a huge kitchen space and very limited seating, which was full of people also waiting 20+ minutes for their food. It seems like the intent is for it to be a fast casual place, which is not conducive with how long the food takes to come out. If you're stopping in, plan for a longer wait!

Yelp
Wow wow wow! I heard great things about Off The Hook and decided to stop for lunch - so glad I did!! I got the build your own poke bowl and added lobster salad along with a bunch of other yummy toppings, and it was one of the best things I've ever eaten. I've had A LOT of lobster in my life, and this was maybe the best I've ever had. It was perfectly cooked, super tender, and lightly tossed in mayo - just delicious. All of the other ingredients in the poke bowl were so fresh; the cucumber salad was my favorite next to the lobster. My son had the smash burger and fries, which was also absolutely amazing. The fries had a yummy seasoning and were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. We ordered online and the food was ready when we picked it up. The service was quick and friendly. I recommend grabbing your food to go and sitting by the drawbridge as there is limited seating at the restaurant. This is a must try!

Yelp
Excellent hot lobster roll. I was trying to find a lobster roll within mystic I could get for brunch and off the hook was one of the earliest openings (11am). The lobster was perfectly prepared and appropriately portioned and seemed to fly under the radar at least for now - no line! The bun was freshly toasted and offered the perfect crunch. They also had fresh poke if looking for a healthier option. I started the morning at a nearby pastry shop called sift and this was about 1 min walk across the street. It was the most splendid morning you could imagine. I'd highly recommend both!

Yelp
Service was good. Didn't have clam chowder or the fish tacos so I opted for the fish and chips instead. I ended up with thee tiny "fingers" of fish. My fiancé got the shrimp poboy which was great. However he did say no tomatoes and we received that with tomatoes. For $57 I didn't think it was definitely not worth it. Three tables for seating.

Yelp
This place was amazing! we had the lobster flight and mini fritters and they were seriously the best we ever had! don't walk past this place because it does not disappoint!
