"The tiny dining room at this longtime strip mall izakaya gets packed nightly. Like any good izakaya, expect to order a few drinks (ice-cold beer or chilled sake), followed by sushi rolls, seared saba (mackerel), agedashi tofu, and other small bites to help soak up the booze. The udon carbonara and salmon ochazuke are noteworthy." - Matthew Kang

Came for a late lunch and it was busy but we were seated quickly. Food came out very fast and was absolutely delicious! Ordered the udon carbonara, takana fried rice, and the una ju and everything was so tasty. Service was great as well. Would love to come back!

Something special is happening here. Yes, excellent Japanese food BUT they are experimenting with hybrids. Enjoy any entree. One must finish with the green tea cheesecake. Simply delicious. We will return.

Google
Pleasant dining experience and food! Food was delicious and hit the spot. Food was quick to be prepared, and was fresh hot. Service was nice and friendly. Location is small, so the place feels intimate, and cozy. Would definitely come again, if I were in the area. Recommend.

Google
Actually such a nice restaraunt! I would say it’s better than din tai dung as we came here because the wait was too long but we did NOT regret it at all. It was a 10/10 everything was so yummy and it seemed very authentic as well we also got a dessert as well, kids loved it as well as everyone else involved.

Google
Extensive menu with tasty offerings. Ordered: ~Udon Carbonara: udon was bouncy and chewy topped with mushrooms and bacon strips in a creamy sauce. Good flavor. Must try. ~Spicy Miso Ramen: flavorful broth and chewy noodles. ~Takana Fried Rice w/ Clam Chowder Croquette: fried rice was good, loved the pickled mustard greens. The egg was a lil overcooked. The croquettes were crispy. Small restaurant with limited seating. Plenty of parking.

Google
Awesome Japanese food! A little pricey but it has everything you want for Japanese food. They all taste great, so I think it is worth the price. I ordered udon carbonara, Ika Yaki, and Beef Tataki Set. Amazing experience, and the restaurant is always busy at night, so it is better to make a reservation before going. FYI, don't go there when you are very hungry because the portion is somehow small

Google
We had lunch here for the first time, and was pleasantly surprised to find tasty, authentic Japanese food, not some wannabe copycat. I liked the subtle seasoning of each dish which were carefully prepared. The menu is extensive so would love to visit again to try something else. It's located in a strip mall with ample parking in front. Servers are friendly.

Google
Small izakaya serving authentic Japanese small plates. We had the rainbow roll, toro sushi, hamachi collar, and omurice. The rainbow roll was good, and the fish was fresh. The toro 🍣 doesn't taste as premium as I would like, but it's good enough. What was troubling about the service was that the servers couldn't tell toro sushi from their beef sushi. They gave us the beef sushi first, and we promptly told them the order was for toro and not beef. 2 servers have to come by to look real close before they realized that the 🍣 was indeed beef. The omurice was decent, but we would have like the egg to be a lot more runny.

Yelp
Came here around 8:45. Two people, waited about 5 minutes the party ahead no showed awesome. Scallop Croquettes- dope AF. I would only come back here to have a beer and this. It was this cream cheese inside, idk about the scallop part but was good. I wanted the clam chowder ones but they were sold out. // Clam Miso Soup - literally clams in miso soup, good, not too salty, could have been a little more // Shishito Peppers - had bonito flakes. Was average // Omu-Rice - fire I would get this again. I got tonkatsu with it, meat was a little tougher than I liked. If I order this again I'll get it with the croquettes instead. The rice and egg were good though, very creamy and acidic, so good. // Coffee Jelly - perfect, no too sweet, cream on top delicious

Yelp
Torrance is full of amazing Japanese eats, and Ojiya definitely makes the list. Came here on a Saturday for lunch. It was very busy, but we got seated after about 15 minutes. Don't be fooled if all the front seating is full; they have a back room with additional tables. They offer so much here; sushi, sashimi, rolls, bento boxes, and other classic dishes. We ordered the tonkatsu ramen, which was delicious and rich. They only do one kind of ramen here, and they do it well. We also ordered the agadashi tofu, chicken karaage combo, which came with rice and miso soup. The karaage pieces were fried perfectly. Fish was really fresh, and you can definitely tell they care about the quality of food here. They close for a few hours after lunch/before dinner so plan your visit accordingly. We definitely will be back.

Yelp
A great Japanese restaurant that reminds me of the Japanese restaurants in NYC! It can be hard to find certain Japanese dishes, such as omurice, in LA to find or that's as good as the ones in NYC (yes I know Japan would be a better comparison but mostly everyone reading this probably won't go to Japan anytime soon and NYC is second best in Japanese food in my opinion). However, Ojiya does not disappoint in the quality of their food. I ordered the Takowasabi & Solf Shell Crab as an appetizer, and Omurice & Udon Carbonara as an entree. Everything this was amazing at a great price! The only downside to the menu was the alcoholic drinks. Their sake bottles are more pricier than most places. Expect a small restaurant with not too many tables. I went on a Tuesday so I didn't have to wait at all, but then again I had to sit at the bar. So my guess would be that it can be a wait! The service could of been a little better. At first, they were slammed with tables which is understandable. However, once new tables came in and I noticed they got their water first, that kind of bugged me a little. It's okay though, we're all human. The workers were still really kind and that's all I need! I'd definitely come back here! Great food and great place to try Omurice, but also don't skip out on the Udon Carbonara!

Yelp
It appears there are more cooked options than sashimi/ fish. I got salmon and hamachi sushi rolls and plum wine and had a good experience. It's close to where I live, and they close late.

Yelp
I quite enjoyed Ojiya! They have a really wide menu selection for all types of Japanese food, whether niche or well known. Definitely comfort food for sure! The ladies there are also so sweet! During lunch hours it can get busy but they're very attentive regardless. I will note that tables are a little close to one another so it can get a little loud and you can overhear conversations easily. I recommend for a casual date, but might be difficult for them to make space for a big group. I ordered a 2 choice combo bento (sashimi & chicken teriyaki), the fried squid, and tanaka fried rice with chicken cutlet. The bill for all of these + hot tea was about $60. A little bit on the pricier side so I had to knock off a star but if you have the budget for it, I would definitely go. We have even had leftovers to take home, so there's another meal!

Aimee A.

Yelp
We arrived at Ojiya after several places we intended to go (closer to us) were closed by 8:30pm on a Friday. But, it was meant to be, because we knew one of the servers as soon as we walked in. Great Japanese "comfort food" and a little of everything...noodles, bento boxes, sashimi. It is a small space, so with many people it was LOUD, but we were tucked in a booth, and it worked out. Nice servers and quick. Would go again.

Roy L.

Yelp
Ojiya is a small restaurant that serves pretty authentic Japanese food. It's pretty small but they pack the tables close together, and there's something about this restaurant that makes it really loud. So expect to have a hard time hearing others if you're not seated in one of the booths. The food was really good, but you definitely pay a small premium to other cuisines. It's more expensive but worth it. I got the bento box and it was loaded with all the good stuff (see pics). Overall, this is a one-and-done for us, but still worth trying if you like Japanese food.

Yelp
Decided to come here after an escape room.. Known of this spot but never have had the chance to try it out. but i am definitely glad we did. We were seated right away. From the outside it looked busy and that we would have to wait but we were led to a back room that had plenty more seating. Everything that we ordered was excellent. The beef tongue was tasty, the udon carbonara was delicious and creamy. we also had a baked lobster roll and the takana with medium rare beef on top.. loved all the food..

Grace X.

Yelp
Came here for lunch at 11:30 on saturday morning right when they opened. We were the first ones there and were able to secure a comfy booth seating. The restaurant is pretty small but they have a very extension menu. We got 4 dishes and it was just enough food for the two of us! Service was fast and very attentive! 5/5 - Hamachi Kama This was pretty standard, can never go wrong with this dish. The fish was rich and melt in your month, cooked perfectly. 4/5 - Eel over rice This was good, but not mindblowing. It's just a very classic homey dish! 5/5 - Soft shell crab tempura This was the best item we got. Sometimes when i get soft shell crab, the shell is not actually soft. But the texture of this crab + tempura batter was perfect. It wasn't overly battered, and I can still taste the shell. 3.5/5 - Agedashi tofu This was ok, I think I'm spoiled by the agedashi tofu at Raku in New York. I wish the tofu was bit more crispy and had more flavor in the sauce. But it was still good and hit the spot!

Yelp
[Review #792] 2023-079 Food Order: UDON CARBONARA (with bacon & mushroom), AGEDASHI TOFU (fried tofu in seasoning soup) Ojiya is located in Towne Centre Plaza near the busy intersection of Hawthorne & Torrance Blvds. The restaurant has a familiar feel that I might have dined here years ago when I worked at TMS. I had a carbonara craving, Ojiya popped up in my search. Interesting... since it's a Japanese restaurant; instead of pasta, it's replaced with udon & the sauce sticks to the noodles rather well. The flavors are all there; however, it would have been a better plate if the udon water was drained better because the last few bites was slightly diluted. Although the udon doesn't have the absorption like spaghetti, it has a good QQ chew & perfectly cooked. While the agedashi tofu was delish dipped in tentsuyu (seasoning broth), its crisp shell was dampened by the condensation. I really loved the tofu's silky texture. Towne Centre Plaza has plenty of parking, but they're also home to several restaurants so lunch & dinner rush may impact availability. And multi-lanes Hawthorne Blvd. doesn't have street parking. The dining room is somewhat small, but they have a makeshift patio for outdoor dining. Ojiya has a loaded menu of straight-forward Japanese dishes: appetizers, salads, sushi, sashimi, meat & fried dishes, noodles & porridge, onigiri, rice & rice meals, even a kids meal (for the 10 YO & younger set) with moderate price points. Its style is more of an izakaya (居酒屋, which means "stay-drink-place"). From the looks of the diners & their orders, this definitely looks like a spot to grab a drink, settle in, & get comfortable. Service was excellent: polite, friendly, & efficient. My order was packaged neatly, with the broth of the agedashi tofu packed separately. Both dishes were quite warm by the time I drove back to the office. Great little gem of a place in my 'hood... will definitely be back! Recommended: Udon Carbonara (if you're a carbonara fan, you'll love this variation) & Agedashi Tofu.

Yelp
One of my favorite little shops in Torrance. The ambience is bustling and the service is attentive. Even on a Tuesday night, the restaurant is pretty full so you know it's a crowd favorite after work. My must order: Takana fried rice with hirekatsu (5/5): delicious runny egg on top of flavorful fried rice mixed with mustard greens. The hirekatsu (pork tenderloin) is very juicy and pairs well with a dab of mustard and tonkatsu sauce. My top favorites: Mushroom risotto: very interesting dish that is lighter and more watery than a traditional Italian risotto. It has more of a porridge consistency with chunks of mushrooms that add a crunchier texture. Miso carbonara: a heavier dish that is fun to share. Large pieces of fried bacon with a creamy carbonara sauce and chewy udon noodles is always a tasty choice. Una ju: thick pieces of yummy eel on top of rice. It's a little on the sweeter side but the eel is extremely tender and not dry at all. Honorable mentions: Breaded fried oysters (kaki fry), fried tofu, and Kaarage chicken I've been here multiple times and it always scratches an itch that makes me come back for more!

Yelp
This little spot, really hits the SPOT. If you want authentic Japanese food this is the place to go. If you want authentic Japanese food with a a modern twist, this is also the place to go! The udon carbonara, I've never had it before, nor have I heard of any place offering this deliciousness. The sauce is creamy and full of umami flavor. It had bits of bacon, which made it that much better. The chicken curry, never had better to be honest. You will just need to go and try it! Finally, we got the matcha Mont Blanc, and let me tell you, I regret sharing it because I LOVED IT (also it's very small) I've had Mont Blanc before but I have to say matcha has been my favorite. I am not sure if the dessert is seasonal, but they should really keep it! The service wasn't exceptional but it wasn't bad either. The waitresses were respectful and did their job. If I remember correctly, we discovered a small call button at the edge of the table. I believe it is used to get service, next time we may use it!

Yelp
Incidentally we came here bc we had foolishly tried to visit the popular Inaba restaurant a few doors down without a reservation (I wonder if Ojiya naturally gets a lot of spillover traffic in this way lol) Regardless, this is a solid casual spot for Japanese food that spans noodles, soups, katsu, and sushi, among other dishes. Tempura was surprisingly good, as were the fried squid legs appetizer. Bento box is a good value for hungry guests. This is a good place to share a few items as their menu is pretty expansive. But it's not the cheapest, with many non-entree items costing $16-18. Service was decent at the beginning but trailed off at the end when they forgot our dessert order and to go boxes for a good 15min and we couldn't easily flag down our waitress.

Lauren T.

Yelp
Food was great! My favorite part of the meal was the salad & dressing: it is so good! (They also sell it in bottles to take home) The spicy tuna was good- but not as fresh as it could've been. Inside seating is limited, so if you go around dinner time then you might have to wait a bit.

Yelp
I've known about Ojiya for a few years now. I love Japanese yoshoku, and I always knew that Ojiya had yoshoku dishes such as carbonara udon and omurice. I decided to come here for a date with my wife. This restaurant is quite a drive for me, being in Torrance, but it was definitely worth it. Ojiya is a very small hole in the wall style restaurants with only a few seats. I'm glad my wife called for a reservation. Shortly after we were seated, there was a wait list to get in. We sat at a small table. The owner preferred to speak in Japanese, but can also speak English. I actually liked that the staff spoke Japanese as I could get a bit of practice in. Everyone there was super nice. I was craving yoshoku, so I did not order any sushi or tempura. We shared a carbonara udon, takana (pickles) fried rice with egg on top and a side of hire katsu, and also mont blanc for dessert. The carbonara udon was just the right consistency for us - creamy without being too greasy. Mushroom and bacon are a Japanese adaptation to carbonara, but we loved it. This was my first time having takana fried rice. I loved the pickles and fried rice, which meant very little if any soy sauce was required for flavor. The creamy omelette on top was a nice addition, as was the hire katsu. The entree came with miso soup which was hot. The mont blanc dessert was awesome. I love mont blanc, and this was my first time having it with Japanese purple sweet potato. Overall amazing Japanese restaurant in the South Bay area.

Jae L.

Yelp
Really really good authentic, japanese izakaya style food in Torrance. Highly recommend calling to make a reservation to avoid waits esp on the weekends, but seemed like they were taking in walk in customers as well. Their prices are very reasonable. 5/5: beef tataki 5/5: takana fried rice with hire katsu Will bring friends and family here all the time:)

Barbara W.

Yelp
Very nice and cute little restaurant. Popular for the locals. Nice food and cozy. Food came fast

Constance L.

Yelp
Best udon carbonara I've had! Detailed breakdown below: **Service, 4/5** Friendly service! Take out was missing utensils and napkins though. **Price & portion, 4.5/5** Udon carbonara ended up being about $17 -- not bad, but portion didn't fill me up. **Taste of the food, 5/5** I haven't had an udon carbonara better than Ojiya. The sauce is savory without being too heavy, the udon noodles are always cooked perfectly, the mushroom adds an interesting layer of texture, and the pork belly is jam-packed full of delicious fatty flavor. All together, a perfect bowl of noodles that beats out almost all other traditional pasta dishes I've had.

Kelly N.

Yelp
OjiYAY! This is a delightful mom n' pop shop and hidden gem in an older strip mall. The Takana rice had a perfectly fried egg with soft fried rice below and came with a topping (e.g. tonkatsu). Also got the chicken katsu curry. Although the cutlet at first looks manini, it was thick and a satisfactory portion. Curry had a nice mild+ spice level with great flavor. Both dishes come with miso soup and mixed green salad with superb ?soy-ginger dressing. Servers were attentive and kind. There were 6 or so tables of 4, but we only had to wait 5 mins for a table for 2 at lunch hour on Sat. Will have to come back to try the omu rice and udon carbonara (it has BACON!)! Protip: this strip mall has one way roads and slanty spots, so be careful when turning in.

Kimberly C.

Yelp
Portions are on the smaller side but everything tastes very high quality. The udon carbonara is one of their most popular dishes here and is very creamy and tasty. It's similar to the Miso Carbonara from Marugame Monzo in Little Tokyo, but less saucy and has less of a yolk flavor. It was so good but I wished the portion was more filling. My bf ordered one of the Tonkatsu sets and enjoyed his meal. Our friends tried ordering a popular appetizer dish but it was sold out. We visited on a weeknight and the restaurant seemed pretty busy.

Reyna P.

Yelp
I recently (today) got an order from through Uber eats. The driver was very careful but mentioned my order is leaking. I noticed there was a large puncture in the container of grilled chicken which makes sense of the leak. Everytime I pick my own order it go to Ojiya there is care. But when an Uber eats person delivers an order from them it's leaking or all over the place.

Yelp
If you want hearty and comforting Japanese food come here! We got 7 dishes and they were all very tasty and comforting for the soul (and stomach)! 5/5: Salmon Sashimi - Melted in your mouth and tasted very fresh. They gave 5 thick and fatty slices of salmon sashimi. 5/5: Tako Wasa - This is marinated chopped Octopus with Wasabi Stem in a wasabi sauce. Very unique tasting and def would recommend even if you don't like octopus or wasabi (me). The octopus was very fresh and had a light bite with a hint of wasabi citrus sauce. I usually don't like wasabi but the sauce went so well with the fresh octopus. 4/5: Beef Tataki - Seared beef steak sashimi with ponzu sauce. They gave a lot of thinly sliced, medium rare steak in this appetizer so well worth the money! It was drizzled with a fresh house made ponzu sauce. 5/5: Agedashi Tofu - Fried Tofu in Seasoning Soup. Their fried tofu was so soft in the inside drenched in their umami seasoning soup, while the outside still had a crisp bite. Eat it with the soup and it was so hearty and comforting. Can't go wrong with this basic. 5/5: Una Ju - Eel rice bowl. Also can't go wrong with their eel rice bowl. They gave two big slices under a bed of soft rice and miso soup to go with it. A staple to get if you like eel. 3/5: Udon-Carbonara Noodle - Thought this was okay and nothing was special about it. Heard a lot of reviews this was one of their best but tasted like normal pasta with salty bacon on top. The udon noodles had a good bounce though. 3/5: Grilled Beef Tongue with Garlic Oil Sauce: This dish was okay as well since I do enjoy eating tongue (lol). It was a bit tougher than usual and a little bland/just salty even with the garlic oil sauce. The salad underneath was refreshing to eat with the beef tongue.

Wan L.

Yelp
Extensive menu with tasty offerings. Ordered: ~Udon Carbonara: udon was bouncy and chewy, topped with mushrooms and bacon strips in a creamy sauce. Must try. Small restaurant with limited seating. Plenty of parking.

Ted F.

Yelp
Wish Yelps would let me rate 4.5, that would be dead on balls accurate. Can't drop a full 5 here, but this place is quite good. Clearest signal: most everyone dining in there was speaking Japanese and getting hammered and having an awesome time. Udon Carbonara was the real deal, and the Tonkotsu Ramen was quite good as well. A+++ broth, A pork, B- noodles (which was weird). Had a few nigiri that were excellent as well, but I'd say most of the diners weren't eating sushi so my take was this is more Izakaya style. You won't regret this one - highly encourage!

Jamie C.

Yelp
This place was recommended to me by a Torrance local, and it did not disappoint. We ordered the clam chowder croquette for our appetizer, which was really new to me (the concept of fried soup lol) but it was so yummy. We also got their famous udon carbonara and classic tonkatsu curry rice. It was hard to not get curry because as soon as you enter the cozy restaurant, the smell of curry is irresistible in the best way. I think this is the best tasting udon carbonara I've had? The udon noodles were chewy and the mushrooms in the dish were umami and had a smoky flavor. The carbonara was better than the one at Marugame Monzo in Little Tokyo LA, which is what they're known for.

Amanda A.

Yelp
If you're looking for an authentic Japanese place. Come to Ojiya! It's your typical hole in the wall , small, Japanese restaurant but everyone here is so nice and prepare the food well. When you come it's like you're in Japan. This is time to practice your Japanese with the waitresses like I did! I love sushi and Japanese food. I usually get Omrice (if they have it) and a sushi roll when I check out any Japanese restaurants. Ojiya stuck out to me. The spicy salmon roll was good and filling! There's no stinginess with the salmon. The sushi was built perfectly and didn't fall apart. Its better compared to other Sushi restaurants I've been too. The omrice portions were huge and delicious! I couldn't finish mine and took it to go. It's a bit pricey but I think it's so worth it. I recommend this place out if you like Japanese food. We came in the evening and it wasn't too packed and we didn't have to wait that long for our food. I know during lunch hours it's busy. This is a good place for dinner. Check it out!

Bill P.

Yelp
We enjoy Ojiya every so often Whenever we go all the tables get filled or are filled before we get in Recommend their sashimi platter and Ojiya salad to start. Or, get their box set which can include a nice variety. Otherwise anything on the menu is good.

Irene W.

Yelp
We got seated fairly quickly at the bar since we didn't have reservations on a weekend night. Everything was fairly clean and service was quick. The variety of dishes is as you'd expect from any izakaya, I think the carbonara udon had some really decently sized pieces of bacon but the dish is a bit heavy so best paired with some other appetizers. The takoyaki was good and crispy and the fillings weren't skimped on. In terms of price, it's a bit lower than other similar restaurants. Parking was also good, not too many spaces during peak, but spaces are available a couple rows over. I'm not sure if I'd come back, it's a good location but it's somewhere you go for a chat and not really for the food.

Karin K.

Yelp
I love this place! Honestly, we ended up here the first time because the other place in the same strip mall was too busy and we couldn't get in quickly. Oh, but how lucky we were! Atmospherically it's maybe not as good, I guess. But also not as expensive. But everything I have eaten there (and I've been back multiple times without even paying attention the the availability of anywhere nearby) is amazing. Also the service has always been lovely. There was a time I was trying to meet people for lunch based on when meetings were supposed to be done and there was about 20 min of waiting and then also suddenly I get a text they are on their way and now we also need another little table added because more people wanted to come. And our server was wonderful and rolled with it all. If she was annoyed by our taking a ton of time and extra tables she didn't indicate it at all and was just lovely (don't worry, we tipped well in the end). It's now my favorite lunch place and I happened into it accidentally.

Mary L M.

Yelp
Went here for lunch on a Thursday right when they opened at 11:30am, which meant we were the first ones there and got seated right away. The restaurant is on a smaller side, but still a good amount of seating, plus it looks like they also have outside seating available. I got the beef tataki set, which is seared beef with ponzu sauce, rice, and miso soup. The meat was perfectly cooked to my liking and bursting with flavor. It paired so well with the rice price was also very reasonable. Definitely coming back here and trying some other stuff on their menu! Recommend

Eugene P.

Yelp
General Description: A small, cozy Japanese restaurant. The good: - Carbonara Udon was surprisingly good. The bacon and mushrooms compliments the rich creaminess of the sauce. - I normally don't like Japanese style ramen because it's too rich, but their main ramen has a nice clean taste to it. I can't really describe the flavors. You have to try it out for yourself. The bad: - Limited hours. They open during lunch, then they close for a couple hours and open for dinner. - Their sushi rolls could be more fresh. I felt like I was eating 2 day old fish. Overall: I don't think I would wait in line to try this place but given the opportunity, I would eat here again.

Noba N.

Yelp
This place's menu option is intense. I truly suggest Going with a large number of people so you can try a variety of foods. This time I just went with my husband so I decided to get an entree more than tapas type food. I got the Taka a fried rice and it was amazing I added steak to it since I wanted some protein with it. Husband got the hire katsu AP. Both super amazing. This was one of my recs for big parties but after this experience now I know I can enjoy entree with smaller parties! Truly recommend

Dylan D.

Yelp
Overrated as fuck Food took 20 mins to come while there was only 1 other family in the restaurant Guy was nice who served us though Food was really mid Wouldn't recommend Overpriced

Alexis C.

Yelp
Came here on a weekday for dinner party of 3 and we were seated within 10 mins. Due to how busy it was we were seated in the back next to a large party that was eating and drinking so they were quite loud but honestly that's not uncommon at a good Japanese place. The food was solid, not the best I've had in Torrance though, and came out in a timely manner. Next time I'd want to sit in the front section so that my family and I could converse without having to raise our voices to be heard.

Jenny S.

Yelp
I come here to get their Broiled Eel over Rice. Their Eel is so soft and melts in your mouth. It is a small restaurant but when we went, there were always tables available. Highly recommend if you are looking for Japanese eel in town.

Yery J.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING! I would 100% recommend to anyone who enjoys Japanese cuisine. The store is a small, cozy restaurant. Felt homey but also gave Izakaya vibes. I came into this store not expecting much but I left excited, wanting to come back to try more dishes! This place offers AUTHENTIC Japanese food - my mom who left Japan 20+ years ago said this is the closest thing to delicious Japanese cuisine she's had in the states. Here's a list of what I've tried so far and what I thought of them: - Beef "Tataki": SOOO good. It's rare meat so if you're not into that, I suggest avoiding it. Also, I recommend getting it as a set menu (Rice and Miso Soup for extra $5.20) because the dish by itself can be a little salty. - "Yaki Gyutan" This was also good but the portion was a lot smaller compared to the Beef Tataki. Similar taste to the Beef Tataki but it's fully cooked. I personally would say to choose the Beef Tataki over this one. - Curry It's just your average curry. Still good but their other dishes are far more worth trying - "Takana" Fried Rice My mom was looking for Takana for 20+ years and she almost shed a tear when she had it here. It's extremely yummy and I would recommend to those who want to try a new type of fried rice. - Mushroom Risotto I had many suspicions of ordering this but to my surprise it's not greasy at all - it's actually very yummy and if you want porridge or something softer, I would recommend ordering this.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come here for years and was not disappointed. The restaurant was cozy, the food was very comforting... dessert compliment/contrast the main dishes well. Next time I'm in the South Bay I'm coming back. **also first time I tried stingray fin. Very tasty.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a Saturday night, all of the tables were full when we arrived but we were able to get seated at the bar instead. Parking is pretty simple since it is located in a plaza. The menu has a variety of options from rolls to noodles to rice dishes, and countless side dishes as well. We tried a bit of everything, takoyaki, octopus, natto roll, fried garlic, and for the main dish, katsu and also the udon carbonara which everyone seems to recommend. I think most of the dishes were alright, most of the appetizers were good asides from the fried garlic which felt more like a boiled garlic, the texture was just soft and there was no crisp to any part of it. The Katsu was okay, I didn't feel that it was anything special and the pork felt a little bit dry. The carbonara was definitely a unique take, but extremely heavy. With the sauce and the bacon and the thick noodles in between it definitely had a bit of weight behind it. Overall the meal left something to be desired, I think it's a good spot if you are in a mood to try a lot of different kinds of Japanese food, but if you're going for one quality item I think there are better options.

Yelp
Service is very bad today. They asked if we wanted table or counter and we said table. Then she said to write our name down. The counter was open at the time but we wanted table. After about 15 minutes of waiting she said that the the table is no longer available and if we could take the counter. She did tell us the table would be available in about ten minutes when we first arrived. Then after going back and forth to the manager she finally put together a table for us that was actually there all the time. What a hassle! We like the food but definitely not worth the back and forth arguing about getting a table. We shall see how the food is.

Yelp
when you get hit with the urge to eat omurice, ojiya is THE spot. we called about an hour before arriving to make a reservation since we were tight on time and trying to get an early Saturday dinner in. we tried - seared salmon belly nigiri - this was a special and pretty good! Salmon belly was fatty and sear was light - omurice with tonkatsu - my mouth is watering just thinking about this omurice. The pork cutlet was so perfectly crispy without being too greasy. The egg was delightfully fluffy and the rice had a nice subtle ketchup flavor. Loved the gravy it came with too! Really tied this whole dish together - side of curry - I wanted omurice... but I also wanted curry.. turns out you can have it all! The side of curry was SO good, very homey and went perfectly with the omurice - clam chowder croquettes - loved these! So fun! Basically fried soup! Would rec if you love clam chowda - yuzu sorbet - a bit more like shaved ice with yuzu shavings but it was the perfect meal finisher without being too heavy. Super light, not too sweet, and perfectly citrusy. It was also a nice small scoop that was perfect to share! Service was great and parking so plentiful in the lot just in front of the restaurant. Can't wait to eat this omurice again hehehehe

Yelp
Ojiya is located in Torrance where many Japanese restaurants thrive. This place looks really humble from the outside and offers enough seating inside. We went there on a weekday evening and we were seated straight away. It looks like the customers here are looking for that cozy casual dinner and Ojiya is the perfect place for that vibe. There are many things to choose from their menu! I am honestly spoiled for choices - from bento to sushi to curry katsu rice to omu-rice to udon and many other appetizers and side dishes. Wow, I didnt know what to pick. So in the end, we ordered: 1. Agedashi tofu: This deep fried tofu drench in dashi flavored sauce is such a heartwarming appetizer and way to start our main dishes! Very delicate and delicious. 2. Curry Omu- Rice: I love their Japanese curry rice - the chicken is crispy and curry is not overly thick nor watery. Definitely well executed and I love this one really well. The rice itself is tomato based, not my cup of tea but it goes really perfectly with the dish. 3. Omu-Rice: their omu-rice egg is so fluffy and so soft. The rice itself is a seaweed based rice and this is my favorite rice! 5. Yaki Gyutan: I was really excited to try their gyutan (beef tongue), but it is not as good as I thought. It is not so tender and I had a little difficulty chewing it. Also, a little salty - I was really thirsty after eating a few bites. Overall, I really enjoyed Ojiya. I would come back here to try their other stuff in the menu. Very promising. Ambiance is really chill and cozy and service is so good.

Yelp
Hole in the wall establishments are a staple in Torrance, so Ojiya is no exception to that. Eat here some dozen times if you can. Anyway, enough of my rambling, let's talk food. Udon carbonara is a nice fusion dish to start off with. From there, maybe add on some omurice or rice dish, while you're at it, get some sashimi and izakaya dishes too. I, for one, am a sucker for squid so can't not get that. Oh, right sorry, I assume you have room in your belly for all of the mentioned dishes above, otherwise I guess having a friend or two join you isn't a bad idea either. So all on all, great dishes, great vibes, and great experience.

Yelp
The dishes we ordered are great, especially the beef tongue was delicious! They also have a good collection of desserts. We ordered coffee jelly and yuzu sorbet. They were so good!

Yelp
The food is really good here, and the udon carbonara is soooo good, service was good, if you are ordering pick up call in because the weight will be about 20/25mins.

Yelp
Service was good, ambiance was cozy, and food quality was okay. The cuts of pork in the katsu we ordered were good quality. However, the soba noodles broke pretty easily.

Yelp
Dinner and date night after a night out at Astra Lumina. Can't go wrong with Japanese food. Went with the Alaskan roll and some gyoza. Service was friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
I came here for dinner with a friend early last week and we had a pleasant time here! There's a good amount of parking in the plaza, you just have to be a little careful going in and out since some pathways are one way and vice versa. I could tell this place was loved by the locals since it was pretty packed and when we left, there was like 10-20 people standing outside waiting to be seated! When we were sat down, I looked through the menu and I saw the carbonara udon which I knew I had to get. I love creamy udon so the carbonara sauce was the perfect sauce for me. The udon was super chewy and cooked really well although I will say it's not as good as Meiji's Seimen in Costa Mesa but it comes close! There was also a generous amount of bacon and mushrooms which really complimented the dish and provided some great flavor and texture! They have quite an extensive menu with various Japanese foods so there is gonna be something for everyone to get! All the rice bowls and fried dishes looked quite tasty in the menu. Don't hesitate to try something new! My friend got the pork cutlet with steamed rice over egg and that looked delicious! He thoroughly enjoyed his dish and said he would order it again! It looked quite filling as well. The ambience felt pretty cozy as there were many locals around and the décor albeit feeling a little dated reminded me of being in a restaurant in Japan! The service was great and the waiter was very accommodating with any questions we had! If you are in the Torrance area, you should come by for some delicious Japanese food!

Yelp
Food is great, straightforward & quality. Choose this over it neighboring restaurant because it was pretty packed which meant to me the food is consistently better. *However* If I came again I would not under any circumstances get seated in the far back. It's down a hall past the kitchen. It's both hot & has a loud refrigerator whining so I couldn't really hear my friends speak. I would have rather eaten at the cheaper place with okay food not to sit in this spot.

Yelp
This small Japanese restaurant has such a large selection of fusion and traditional Japanese food: Beef tataki (5/5): Seared beef with ponzu sauce and lots of garlic and green onions. The beef is very tender, and the umami flavor of the beef is enhanced when you pair each bite of beef with garlic and green onions. Takana fried rice (4/5): The egg is fluffy, and the fried rice is fragrant. We topped the dish with two pieces of tonkatsu. Bowl of clams (4/5): A fun side dish with clams steamed in dashi and sake. The soup is very refreshing.

Yelp
Really good food. Been here a couple of times and I'd go back again for more. They have a bunch of options and I'm sure they are all good. I got the grilled chicken (Mexican style) and I gotta say it was pretty Mexican. they were like fajitas but even better because you know it's healthier. I also had the baked lobster roll which was really good. My gf got the ramen and said it was tasty. Not the best of all time by any means but she enjoyed it. In addition I got plum wine and the sake sampler and it was a good complements to the foods we got. The vibe and service were also top notch.
