Simple, Japanese eatery with Osaka-style okonomiyaki street food, plus outdoor seating.
"There are plenty of tables outside at this Japanese spot in Brixton and there are also plenty of reasonably priced, tasty options on the menu. From okonomiyaki, to prawn and kimchi yaki soba." - jake missing
"Sure, time flies when you’re having fun. But it has a way of dragging like a four-hour root canal when you’re meeting up with that friend of a friend of your friend’s cousin, who happens to work in the same industry as you. That’s why you should head to great little Japanese spot Okan in Brixton Village. Not only is lots of the menu under a tenner but they’ll also feed you quicker than you can say “oh look! We’re finished, better be heading off”. When it comes to your order, get involved in their signature king prawn and squid yaki soba, the pork belly okonomiyaki, and a cheeky glass of plum wine. Job done. " - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak
"Brixton Village isn’t lacking good (or good value) restaurants, but Okan is one of our go-tos. It’s a little Osaka-style Japanese restaurant where everything, from king prawn yaki soba to pork and kimchi okonomiyaki, is under £10. Pints are cheap too, coming in around the £5 mark, and although seating can be a little hard to come by at times, the hit-the-spot plates and excellent value make it worth the wait." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, eileen twum
"Okan has a couple of locations: in Brixton Village and on Coldharbour Lane, and both offer generous and delicious Japanese food at decent prices. Their spot in Brixton Village is walk-in only and while neither of the locations of this Osaka-style Japanese restaurant have a tonne of room, they make up for it in pork belly okonomiyaki, thick yaki udon, and excellent signature king prawn and squid yakisoba. Both are open until 10pm or you can swing by and pick something up to go instead." - jake missing
"If you like big portions of tasty yakisoba and small prices, you’ll like Okan in Brixton Village. This Osaka-style Japanese spot doesn’t have a lot of seating, but what it lacks in space it makes up for in pork belly okonomiyaki, thick yaki udon, and its excellent signature king prawn and squid yakisoba. Everything here is under £15 and comes with a proper serving of bonito, seaweed flakes, and Japanese mayonnaise, so it’s perfect for a quick sit-down situation or to takeaway. If you’re able to grab a table in the evening, get involved in the sides and the plum wine too, and enjoy the buzz of the open kitchen." - Heidi Lauth Beasley, Jake Oliver, Eileen Twum
