"Can’t afford to indulge in the exquisite sushi at Omakase? Consider heading to its next-door little sib, where the fish is still top-notch (it’s all sourced from Japan) but the atmosphere is more laid-back. Okane draws lots of nearby Adobe and Zynga employees at lunch and big groups at dinner, all sharing bottles of sake and making the most of the small-plates menu.Sushi is, of course, a must: the nigiri is pristine and delicious, as are more Americanized rolls like the Harajuku (filled with shrimp tempura, avocado and salmon and topped with tuna, eel sauce and lotus root chips). But don’t sleep on the non-sushi dishes—cod marinated in sake lees is grilled to perfection, and broiled salmon aburi with avocado and ikura is delicious too." - Michelin Inspector

Sushi Counters Across California Perfect for Dining Solo

"MICHELIN Bib Gourmand, Michelin Guide California 2019Two-MICHELIN-starred Omakase may be one of San Francisco’s best sushi counters, but Okane just next door, run by the same team, offers similarly excellent fish in a much more flexible environment. The counter is small, just a handful of seats, but the menu is wide with everything from hot pot nabe to a la carte nigiri." - The MICHELIN Guide

Food’s quality was excellent. Every dish was full of flavor and delicious. Servers and sushi chefs were both super friendly. Great place for a date or a bigger friends/family dinner. Sake and beer remains undefeated as a couple. Would go back if given the chance.

Google
Absolutely outstanding! The best sushi I’ve had in a long time — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish was a delight, the service was warm and attentive, and the atmosphere made it all even better. Truly the best of everything. A must visit if you're in the area!

Google
Fantastic sushi! Very accommodating for folks with gluten allergies. They only use gluten free soy sauce and the server was very mindful for my allergy. Fish was great quality and my group enjoyed the vibe!

Google
This romantic lil sushi spot made the perfect birthday dinner to celebrate my boyfriend. The staff was attentive and welcoming and sitting at the bar to watch the sushi master delicately prepare each item added the perfect experiential element. For a place that only serves fish imported directly from Japan, it was amazing to walk away spending only $150 total (for two people) while feeling absolutely full. The prices felt very reasonable (for SF, of course) but the quality and creativity of each item was top notch. Favorites included the chicken kaarage, temaki hand rolls, and Rainbow Roll. We ordered the Roppongi Roll after seeing it all over the reviews here (it’s the one wrapped in cucumber), and while it was fresh it was a bit underwhelming compared to the other rolls — I’d probably opt for other rolls next time we go. The staff was attentive and made us feel so welcome — they even brought us a bit of complimentary yuzu sake and a gold-dusted strawberry matcha dessert. Wow! The sushi chefs were mesmerizing to watch work, and they were friendly with those of us at the counter. They answered questions about the fish they were preparing and offered recommendations. It felt very intimate and cozy, really elevating the overall experience. Overall, this was the PERFECT choice for a romantic birthday dinner, and I can’t wait to come back.

Google
This place is the walk-in version of "Omakase" restaurant next door (same owner), which is more formal and requires a reservation in advance. Okane is certainly one of the best high-end sushi houses in SF. Everything is super fresh, and they serve A5 wagyu from Japan. The service could have been a bit faster though, especially for the last 2 items in the omakase course that I ordered. To be fair, they were very busy, so it's understandable. I took all the upgrades on the menu and ordered the A5 wagyu as extra. They like to spray edible liquid gold on some menu items, which was great! It was a fantastic overall experience. Very clean place and friendly staff, and paid parking was also in the same building and very reasonable. Super convenient!

Good food, authentic yet innovative. Love the fish roe udon - creamy and tasty with amazing texture. Great vibe, very casual. Drinks are interesting too - SF brewed sake is actually pretty good.

Google
I want to say that first the food is amazing but there's a reason why this isn't s 5 star review. We were a table of 5 and had a good time. I think one of us got the Omakase and the rest of us got regular menu items. Our server was wonderful and the fish quality was amazing on the Chef's choice. Townsend is also a top tier roll that I recommend. Only sour note was at the end we were charged 20% grautity on a party of 5. However on the menu they said they auto charge 20% on parties of 6 or more. So it's just kind of like confusing. It's not that they didn't deserve the tip, but the rule should be clarified for future customers.

Google
Wow! Great sushi alternative to the more expensive sister restaurant next door. They have Omakase and a great selection of sushi, sashimi and nigiri. Spent my birthday here and loved it. You should try it too.

Yelp
We walked in without a reservation around 5pm on Friday. We were the only diners until about 6pm. The restaurant is dark and a bit intimate if it wasn't for the dance club music. For a moment I thought I was in a gay bath house or at circuit party. Staff were friendly. We ordered the following: crispy rice with spicy tuna, soft shell crab, 3 omakase temaki hand rolls, Okane roll and a yuzu sorbet for dessert. Crispy rice was great. For the omakase temaki hand rolls we got: salmon/squid, uni/scallop and tuna. A good deal at $7 for each hand roll. I've yet to have a bad soft shell crab anywhere. It's the same anywhere from my experience. I did have to ask for the spicy mayo because we got ponzu instead. The Okane roll was overly sauced. The yuzu sorbet was perfect to end the meal and a palate cleanser.

Yelp
Located in north San Francisco, it's a very small shop and tables fill fast. You can make reservations but not when they are super busy. We ordered a bunch of nigiri and sashimi but the highlight was the beef sukiyaki, one of the best I have ever had. Salmon sashimi 10/10 Yellowtail sashimi 10/10 Uni nigiri 10/10 Otoro fatty blue fin tuna 10/10 Soft shell crab sushi 5 rolls 10/10 Beef sukiyaki 15/10 Agedashi tofu 10/10 All these items for two came out to about $182 with sake. Kind of expensive but a nice treat.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this little spot. The fish is fresh and we got a mix of classics and unique servings. Would highly recommend the Okane roll and getting the omakase options. The handrolls especially were served beautifully and a delicious surprise. Gotta go back to try the full omakase and then their flagship, Omakase ;)!!

Yelp
Nice place in the Design District. It's quite pricey, but the food is pretty decent. The Hamachi Kama was really good and the Temari Omakase stood out as well, everything else was pretty standard, good quality sushi. They gave my dad a free scoop of ice cream for his birthday.

Yelp
I love everything about this spot! The staff is so friendly and the food is super fresh. Their sake selection is fantastic and I loved the ambiance. I love hole in the wall spots and we found this place randomly on open table. I felt like the meal was worth the price and they even gave us complimentary sake because we couldn't decided between two. Will 100% be back whenever we're in town.

Yelp
OkaHas a Michelin bib to this restaurant but it was the most disappointing sushi restaurant I've been to. Everything was overpriced and quality wasn't much different than a lower end sushi restaurant. Hamachi carpaccio: what you'd expect normally Beef skewer: lowkey tasted like a meatball lol but the sauce was a good compliment to it. Happy spoon: probably my favorite. A little pricy but there's so much going on at once and everything just blended together. Sashimi- very fresh, too fresh? The toro did not have texture and was way soft. Don't listen to everything Michelin says!

Yelp
Okane offers a nice change of pace from its Michelin-starred sibling, Omakase. Located right next door, Okane provides a more relaxed vibe for enjoying Japanese comfort food. Think shareable plates, creative rolls, and other Asian specialties. The restaurant itself is intimate, with limited indoor seating, including bar stools. It creates a cozy atmosphere, perfect for a casual date night or catching up with friends. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, to avoid a wait. Our server, Yui, was fantastic. He was attentive and friendly, even taking the time to chat with us about the menu and the nigiri as he was preparing them. We opted for the nigiri combo, hamachi carpaccio, uni nigiri, and Wakadori Karaage (crispy chicken). The hamachi carpaccio was a bit underwhelming - the slices were thinner than we expected. We also had to request ginger (after our first few dishes), which seemed like an oversight. The star of the show, however, was definitely the nigiri combo. Our 10 pc. nigiri combo included - 1. Hirame 2. Shima aji 3. Hamachi 4. Salomon belly 5. Kurodai 6. Ikura 7. Maguro 8. Hokkaido scallop 9. Japanese baracuda 10. Toro with caviar Each piece featured generous cuts of fresh fish. My personal favorites were the kurodai, salmon belly, Japanese barracuda, and the splurge-worthy toro with caviar. These were melt-in-your-mouth delicious! On the other hand, the uni nigiri was a bit of a letdown. At only $18 for two pieces, it felt like a steal, but unfortunately, the uni itself wasn't as sweet as we'd hoped and had a bit of a fishy aftertaste. The Wakadori Karaage was decent but a bit dry and could have used more sauce for the amount of chicken. Okane is a decent choice for a casual Japanese dining experience. The fresh fish in the nigiri combo was excellent, especially some of the premium cuts. The service was friendly and attentive. However, a few minor stumbles with the hamachi carpaccio, uni, and karaage kept it from being a perfect experience. If you're looking for a more relaxed take on Japanese cuisine with a focus on fresh fish, Okane is worth a try. Just keep in mind the limited seating and make a reservation!

Yelp
Recently went back for dinner and there were changes to menu and quality. Menu updates included sashimi orders decreasing from 5pc to 3pc, more roll options and more hot plates. We got chicken karage, a few sashimi orders and rolls. food came out very slowly, rolls were sitting at the counter but server didn't bring to our table until we asked if that was our food? And sashimi was oddly room temperature and not the usual fresh taste as in the past. The restaurant itself is unchanged in the layout and has the same moody vibe with low lighting and relatively quiet music as before *TLDR-- would recommend other sushi places in the city for the price and quality*

Yelp
Excellent sushi spot with a wonderful chefs choice nigiri. We loved all the unique fish on the Chefs Choice and also tried the A5 Waygu Tataki. Finished with a couple hand rolls as well as the Townsend Roll and everything was super fresh and flavorful. Definitely be back to to the chefs special again.

Yelp
Truly blessed to live so close to this place! The fish here are some if the freshest and reasonably pricesld ive had in sf. The service and the ambiance of the place make this a great date spot, we will definitely be coming back for that unagi don!

Yelp
One of if not the best sushi spot in SF. My favorite roll is the Shinjuku Roll. I tried the Shibuya roll for the first time the other day and really enjoyed how light it was. The Ginza Roll is also a roll I order every time. Service is always great. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful with suggestions. I also enjoy how intimate the setting is. Some other sushi spots in SF can get pretty crowded and noisy and I like this place because it's not too many people inside.

Yelp
Looks like they changed up the menu since I was last here since I didn't see any of the items we had ordered the first time around. Still very delicious. Dishes are on the pricier and smaller side, but they use fresh, quality ingredients. They incorporate shiso leaf into their rolls, which reminded me of the sushi rolls I had in Japan. We had the mixed tempura, ultimate deluxe roll, and mentaiko udon. The ultimate deluxe roll comes with ikura and two different kinds of topeko on top of a roll filled with three different kinds of fish. All of it was very delicious, but as mentioned before, portion sizes are on the smaller side, so still left more to be desired. If you're looking for quality sushi though, it's worth checking out.

Yelp
Food was 4+ stars Service was barely 3 stars and thus the avg 4 stars We asked if we can sit at counter. They said they are full but there was room the whole time we were there. Bizarre. We ordered nigiri but didn't get any wasabi or ginger. When I asked for it, the waitress said oh do you want some? Ah. Yes since it usually comes with nigiri. We also had to ask for low sodium soy sauce. It feels like this place has high quality food but forgot that service need to be on par Now to the food - agedashi tofu was yummy 4 star - seared wagyu beef roll. 5 stars - toro nigiri 4 stars - ikura nigiri 5 stars - gomae 3 stars - Hokkaido scallop special roll 4 stars - hamachi carpaccio 4 stars We probably will try it again but hope the service will be better next time.

Yelp
My husband and I decided to come here for an early Valentine's Day date. We went to omakase the year before for my birthday but wanted to try their rolls. Service was very quick and our waitress was very attentive and gave great recommendations. Our server Simin recommended the Uni nigiri, Otoro-nigiri, and the Shinjuku nigiri 10/10. The uni was creamy and had no flavor of the sea. The Otoro was so buttery and flavored deliciously. One roll I regret not getting two orders of is the shinjuku rolls which has snow crab, avocado topped with a A5 wagyu beef and a dipping sauce that made the dish much better. Neo Tokyo roll was 7/10. It was one of their special roll made with crunchy spicy blue fin, topped with zuke toro, creamy mayo, and yuzu tobiko. Personally felt like it was bland and for the price of $26 I would skip. My husband ordered the crunchy hamachi roll. I'm Not a big fan of fried rolls but he enjoyed it. We also ordered yakitori and a salmon avocado. The yakitori was very juicy and a great palate cleanser to end our meal. Good fish quality but a little on the pricey side the other establishment. Still recommend people to try.

Yelp
Disappointing. The service is not good at all - we felt ignored most of the night. Nearly impossible to get the staff's attention without directly asking the chef. Meal took two hours (5 dishes), all of which came out at completely random times. During the dinner, there were several times our order was forgotten about and we had to remind the staff. Flagging down the waiter to get our check was another problem. Most of the sushi was not as good as I remember, though the service experience was the biggest reason for our sour visit. Don't see myself coming back again.

Yelp
Came with a group of friends! There's a decent amount of street parking in the area, and a lot on the same block of the restaurant. We were able to make a reservation via Resy the day beforehand. We ordered a bunch of rolls to try, and each were good - however, I feel like Okane falls into the category of sushi restaurants that are delicious and expensive but not particularly filling. . Karaage: Juicy and crispy without being too oily, wish it was a larger portion though! . Agedashi tofu: Also pretty yummy but the outer layer of the fried tofu had begun to disintegrate into the broth and become mushy by the time it reached our table. Not the best I've had but satisfies the craving. . Ginza: The torched hamachi is the star of this roll, and this was definitely the crowd favorite among our group.
google avatar

Doris D.

Yelp
Really cozy and nice environment. The waitress is friendly and the chef would say bye to us on the way out. The food portion is descent and tasty, the only thing I would add on is their Wasabi changed and not as good as before in my personal taste. Would go again and explore more options from the menu!

Yelp
Came by for lunch the other day and it was a decent experience. Located in the Design district, Okane is in the Michelin guide as a Bib gourmand and is part of the Omakase restaurant group, including Dumpling Time, Rosemary & Pine, and Niku Steakhouse. Parking is available on the street or in paid underground lot next to the restaurant. Front of the house staff had a couple Asians while behind the counter, they had an Ang Moh and Asian sushi chef which was different. The Asian sushi chef seemed to have a forced Japanese greeting while the others remained silent in the restaurant that played 90s English hit music which was also different. Started off with the Shinjuku roll which was good. There was snow crab inside and it was topped with torched A5 Wagyu beef, definitely a treat. The flavor of the rice was decent although it could have been a touch sweeter. The level of rice was perfect. This did feel Americanized... Moved on to the mixed tempura which was $16 on the menu and $18 on the bill. The mixed tempura featured 3 huge pieces of shrimp, green beans, squash, carrot, and lotus root. This was a huge portion of tempura. Quality was decent, nothing like a tempura Michelin spot in Tokyo though... Staff was available and checked up on the table once all the food came out. ~$55/head after tax, gratuity, and 6% SF mandates for lunch.

Yelp
This is my go-to spot for sushi whenever I'm in the area. Food is consistent and the fish is always fresh. My favorite (and can never go wrong) of their specialty rolls is the Akihabara: salmon, avocado topped with unagi and tobiko. It sounds basic but is always ordered. The apps such as the poki salad and the hamachi carpaccio are great starters. I must say that the chef's recommendations are what shines. A solid choice is the Ebodai (Japanese butterfish), which melts in your mouth and you're left with craving another. Shima aji (striped jack), hamachi belly, and pretty much any belly attached to their name are also solid choices. And finally there are dessert options available (off menu) after all these years! I had the tempura green tea ice cream since they were out of the black sesame option. It was good but nothing to write home about. I hope, in time, the dessert menu expands. Another reason to visit is that parking is easy to find in the design district, and you're not circling around for 15-20 minutes. Service is usually friendly and walk-ins are welcomed.
google avatar

Addison L.

Yelp
I have visited this spot several times, and the highlights are consistent: fresh fish, pleasant service, and a wonderfully warm atmosphere that juxtaposes cozily with the more sterile Design District just outside its doors. This is the sibling restaurant to Omakase - I recommend focusing on the rolls here (particularly Akihabara and Harajuku) for the best bang-for-your-buck. This place is about the classics: good fish + white rice + a few basic ingredients. So while you won't be discovering any particularly innovative flavors here, you may find contentment with their freshly-ground wasabi and shockingly tender karaage. If you are here with a friend, I suggest ordering two rolls and an order of the karaage if you're hungry. If you aren't that hungry but want dessert, swap out the chicken for an order of the fried matcha ice cream. Overall, this place hits home for anyone looking for a cozy date night and some no-frills, high-quality sushi rolls. And if you're hoping for something even more fish-forward and upscale, there's Omakase right next door.

Yelp
Food - immaculate. Booth seating - splendid. Service - caring. Can't wait to come back and try more dishes. Their creations are incredibly unique compared to other sushi spots so keep an open mind and hungry belly. Also their phone doesn't work but you should be able to drop by and get a spot :)

Yelp
I rarely ever give restaurants such a low rating but this is probably the most overrated, overpriced sushi place in the city for what it is. There are so many better options. Sure the fish is fresh and it's slightly better quality but it's not so much better that we should pay $250 for what would be $150-175 somewhere else. I'm all for an elevated sushi restaurant but this is not it. We live nearby and have been a few times but we're taking this off our rotation list.
google avatar

Yelp
Came with a friend and ordered: sea bream and zuke toro nigiri, harajuku roll, bacon wrapped scallops, and yellowtail collar. The nigiri was fresh and the toro absolutely melted immediately. The harajuku roll was also great with a good combo of textures with the shrimp tempura inside and the lotus root on top. The collar was super solid too, well cooked. But, our absolutely favorite was the bacon wrapped scallops. They weren't too salty and were extremely well balanced with a sweet sauce outside and the scallops inside being perfectly cooked. The service was pretty good, they were very attentive and prompt. Good experience, nothing much to add. Nice cozy environment that was great for a dinner. Overall, the food was super solid and service and environment were good. For the 5 dishes it came to about $150 total, which is pretty steep considering that two of the dishes were just nigiri. But, would come again if looking to order a good roll or two.

Yelp
Sushi was fresh; overall, a nice experience! What we ordered: - Agedashi Tofu (5/5): one of my favorite dishes here. The outer shell is not crispy but oddly, that's what makes the agedashi tofu so good here; probably the best I've ever had. Soup was flavorful and tofu was silky smooth. - Hamachi Carpaccio (4/5): great starter, well balanced and yuzu was on point - Lotus Chips (5/5): loaded with crunch and flavor especially when dipped in the wasabi aioli. - Harajuku (4/5): special roll was well made, contained fresh fish, crispy lotus root added a great crunch! - Beef Sukiyaki (5/5): dish contained rib eye, tofu, mushrooms, veggies, vermicelli. Very flavorful, great comfort food, perfect for colder days - Chef's Selection (4/5): fish quality was great but not the best - nothing special here. Out of all the amazing dishes, the agedashi tofu and beef sukiyaki stood out to me.

Yelp
Standout nigiri item was the ika-uni (squid and sea urchin, middle two in the photo). The uni was so buttery and smooth while the squid was just the right amount of chewy and charred, the whole combination was amazing! I would've easily been happy with several more orders of just that. The cherry blossom nigiri was also excellent, and a great seasonal special (left in the photo). The striped jack was good, but probably the least special of the three. All the food was extremely flavorful and fresh. Service was pretty slow, it took us quite a while to have our orders taken, have our food served, and to even just get the check after our plates were empty. Staff was very welcoming and nice, I just wish they were a little more prompt. We were sitti g at the bar area, and it was cool to see the chefs do their thing right in front of us. It was a little disappointing to not have the food served directly at the bar (our food was still prepared in the kitchen and served to us). Overall the food quality here is excellent, and i would highly recommend!

Yelp
Okane reopened recently with a new menu. We ordered a couple of miso soups, the Salmon Oyakodon and the Jalapeno Popper. The salmon was nice and fresh, and I enjoyed the rice. Not sure how the rice is cooked (in dashi?) but it had a subtle flavor. The jalapeño poppers were very good and not spicy as you would imagine! The staff are friendly and we went during lunch so it was not busy nor loud in the restaurant. There was also no wait for walk-in. I'm deciding between 3 and 4 stars for now as I do miss the old menu that had the sukiyaki and daily specials. Overall, I'm happy Okane is open again!

Yelp
This is a quality sushi place. The Okane roll is probably one of the best. Good if you like crab.

Yelp
FYI: try the items on their chefs menu! they're there for a reason, trust me WHAT WE GOT: zuke toro*, hamachi belly*, cobra roll*, quail egg tempura, agedashi tofu, fukubukuro*, wakadori karaage, saba, yuki masu*, ebodai* *item was on the chefs/daily specials menu PROS: the fish here is super fresh and honestly, any sushi item you get will probably be delicious. the husband and I think it's probably because this restaurant is connected to the omakase place (appropriately called Omakase) and aside from sharing the occasional chef, they might also share some of their fresh fishes of the day (like maybe the pieces not good enough for omakase services goes to okane?). Either way, everything we got from their specials menu was amazing and honestly, made the items from their regular menu taste just sort of okay. They were still good but easily forgettable in my opinion. Instead, we will be remembering the ebodai and yuki masu nigiri pieces we ended our night with. Oh my lord it felt like I was at omakase again with those two. Amazing flavor with the right balance of richness to lightness. We will definitely be back. CONS: ok I think this is just cause of the unfortunate placement of where we were seated but the amount of small gnats (those small, tiny flies) on the inside of the window was distracting and a little gross. We were at the table right at the entrance and the husband said there was just a whole swarm of them by his leg. A few of them crawled up the window and were eye level with us. At a certain point, I started pushing them off the window with the menu. They didn't land on any of the food but their presence there was just a bit too much for me

Yelp
The first sushi restaurant I tried ever since I moved to the Bay Area. Okane did not disappoint, and I look forward to trying its sister restaurant Omakase. Make sure to make a reservation to either restaurant though. I got tempura quail eggs to start us off. It had novelty since I've never seen eggs coated in tempura batter before. I would skip it next time and eat more sushi. The specialty rolls are delectable if you're looking for some specialty sushi rolls that are more original than just a variation of a California roll. Their daily specials are delicious and contain a lot of fish that I have never seen served as sushi. I highly recommend the specials written on the board above the sushi chefs' heads.

Yelp
Great sushi place! The ambiance has a small dive appeal. Service was very attentive. The food was good. Nothing incredibly special but definitely a solid sushi restaurant. Shinjuku roll is topped with wagyu beef, but oddly lacked flavor for me, the snow crab and rice mixture didn't have a impressive flavor in combination with the wagyu. My favorite dish were the sesame green beans.. really great flavor! Matcha crepe cake was light and fluffy. Not an overpowering flavor but a light end to the meal. Street parking was easy to find and I was able to be seated at the sushi bar without a reservation on a Sunday night

Yelp
The sushi and food is excellent. The fish is super fresh and the rolls delicious. The restaurant is immaculate. One of my favorite places for sushi in the Bay Area that serves high quality fish. Price is on the expensive side, but for the quality of the fish and food, it is fine. Service is average, but the food makes up for the service quality. The only real downsides are that the location is in an awkward part of town and the restaurant is too small for big groups and occasions.

Yelp
This. Place. Is. So. Freaking. Gooooood! We were lucky enough to receive a gift card and stopped in for dinner before a performance at the symphony. Absolutely everything about our experience was immaculate, from the service, to the ambiance to the incredible food. We ordered a wide array of items because they had so many of our favorites to choose from, especially multiple treatments of uni and kanpachi. We savored every bite, each dish was so savory but light with umami off the charts. We literally have nothing bad to say about any aspect of our meal and will 1000% be returning as soon as we can. Do yourself a favor and stop in!

Yelp
maki rolls were delicious especially the wagyu beef with snow crab roll (although the crab flavor was quite subtle bc it was so finely chopped). loved the sweet unagi sauce. the nigiris were good too but quite expensive :") the hokkaido cream mille crepe cake was disappointing it was hard and brittle and the ice cream was icy

Yelp
WHEN: Thursday at 5:45pm TIP: the restaurant building is right next to the Adobe building on Townsend. It was a walk from 4 n King muni to Townsend. We made it just in time before HH menu ends. There are plenty of small apps and drinks that has HH deals. We were so happy to made it to try out some apps. SERVICE: excellent!! The host put in our HH orders right before the tock special ends online. He even warned us to order before 6pm to ensure we get the special deals. Our waiters were very friendly and attentive on our needs. She came by a few times to check on us. WHAT WE ORDERED HH Yakitori it was 2 skewers, my skewer had shells in it. It was very odd. The other skewer did not. Chicken karagee Very tender and crispy chicken. Big pieces as well, it was very much worth it. Not HH Beef Sukiyaki app It was a lot smaller than I expected. It feeds 2 ppl, it doesn't come with rice though. The broth was sweet and warm, the ingredients are very high quality Waygu soba egg roll We thought it was soba noodle, but it came in egg roll form which was v interesting. It was very tasty, just didn't expect soba to be in a different form lol. Very tender waygu as well, it came with a dipping sauce. We didn't expect as soon as we walked in, Okane was Michelin guide restaurant in 2021!! It was definitely my first Michelin guide experience. Overall it wasn't very expensive either considering it's in SF tech area, eating apps were enough for 2 ppl. And the sushi chefs were sooo friendly!! They greeted us on our way out.

Yelp
- Outstanding food - Great service - Good ambience We began with edamame and lotus chips. The edamame were good, the lotus chips came with wasabi mayo. They were good as well, but a little too fried. We then got the salmon sashimi (excellent), amberjack nigiri (which was my favorite), and the salmon nigiri (again excellent -- the salmon was especially fresh). For rolls, we got the Ginza (which came torched Hamachi -- it was delicious), the Harajaku (which came with salmon, avocado, shrimp tempura, topped with a thin fried lotus root chip. This was very good as well, but my favorite was the Akihabara (which came with salmon, avocado and topped with unagi). We also got unagi avocado roll (which was outstanding) and the Okane Spider (which was good, but not exceptional). We also got the sunrise roll from their specials, whch came with blue fin tuna, mango, and salmon (which was good but probably my least favorite).

Yelp
Ah, as I quote the famous Michelin guide "if youre on a bit of a budget and don't want to get Omakase next door, try out Okane!" This place is SPECTACULAR and exceeded my expectations! Price point - Reasonable and ~$150-200 is definitely enough for 2 people assuming you don't get sake and you're okay with a light beer Service is amazing. This is by far one of my favorite seafood restaurants up in San Francisco. It's located in a cute little restaurant that's right next to Omakase, and can be confusing to find at first. We almost walked into Omakase and got confused lol! All the fish and seafood was amazing quality. I'll always come back :)

Yelp
I'm honestly in shock about how good and fresh this place was! My family is really picky about our sushi, so I didn't expect us to like it that much. All of the rolls were really well thought out with components that all go together really well! ~ Lotus chips: 3/5 This was okay, I liked the wasabi aioli sauce ~ Hamachi carpaccio: 5/5 I loved the pickled onions and piece of radish on it. This carpaccio was unique because it had a lot of parts to it but it was so good! ~ Lantern roll (special menu): 5/5 This roll was soo good, it had scallop and a small tomato on it. ~ Shinjuku roll: 5/5 The wagyu was so tender and the snow crab was sooo good too! ~ Karaage: 4.5/5 The sauce for this was yummy and chicken was cooked perfectly. I would give all the nigiri that we tried a 5/5, the cuts of fish were perfect and all the fish was super fresh. I would definitely come back to this place again. Sushi is a little on the pricier side but you get what you pay for. This restaurant was really amazing and our server took really good care of us!

Yelp
This is not the same Okane since it closed and reopened with a new chef and new staff. The wait times are much longer and the food is no longer worth the price. The shrimp nigiri is basically a tiny cooked shrimp you could get from Costco for a couple bucks to dip into cocktail sauce. 72 dollars for a set of sashimi... you can get a much better chirashi bowl from another restaurant for 36 bucks with bigger better fish. The specials menu does not exist anymore, it was removed. Menu is also significantly different with less options. Wish I had photos to show the difference but I didn't take any photos since the food has not impressive. Okane used to be our favorite Japanese restaurant in the city, we're no longer going back unless the previous ownership or chef returns. Staff were nice, but food is just not worth the price.

Yelp
Found this spot right next to another one of our favorites (New Burma). We tried some nigiri, a hand roll, and 2 specialty rolls. While the smaller dishes came out right away, the specialty rolls took 40mins+ to get to our table. This was unusual because the restaurant wasn't even full. The host apologized for the delay and gave and ended up giving us one of the rolls for free. The rolls themselves were very delicious and were ultimately worth the wait I guess. We enjoyed both the sunset roll (a special not listed on the regular menu) and the ginza roll. We will be back to try Omakase, the sister restaurant next door!

Yelp
My friend and I went here the day after New Year's Day (before going back to work), so we wanted to celebrate with sushi. This place is part of the Omakase group (on my hit list to try). And this place has some a la carte options, so I wanted to go here for a more casual dinner. The sushi chefs and servers are all very nice and helpful. My friend and I got the chef's choice 10 piece sushi which was SO good. But 10 pieces is never enough for me, so we ordered a bunch of extra fish which is delicious (but price adds up quickly). They have the rice tea here (genmaicha) which I love, and our server refilled our teas throughout the night (after one request at first), but then she kept refilling for us. :) Both the sushi chef and our server made a couple of recommendations of fish, and they were ALL so good! Would definitely come back here. My only advice is if you have a large appetite and don't want to spend a ton of money, maybe get a cooked dish or two to try to fill up faster. Otherwise, focus on the fish because they're all so good!

Yelp
We were finally able to eat here. We had plan on going here for my daughter's graduation lunch but they had a sewer break and we ate at their sister restaurant, Live Sushi. Now it was my daughter's Birthday so another lunch we did. It was really worth it. There isn't much parking on Townsend but we found parking on the next street, King. Not a bad walk and the weather was perfect out. Our reservation was for 11:45AM and we got there and we were the first people in the restaurant. They didn't have our reservation which was weird. I booked through OpenTable. I showed it to them but the place was totally open and he sat us near the window. Funny they use empty bottles of Hibiki for their water bottles. Kind of cute but must be hard to clean them every time. I asked for recommendations and he said on the board above the sushi chef was the daily items not on the item. I saw that they had barracuda which I have never had. So we got that. He suggested the Akihabara roll and the Tiger roll so we got both of them. He said he had an wagyu roll to . So we started with that and of course my wife got the Agedashi tofu. We all had water but I knew I want to try one of their sake. I picked the Iwate Meijo "Dragon of Oshu" it was amazing and loved the flavor. The barracuda or Kamasu was amazing and melted in my mouth. It was so yummy. The Akihabara was so good and lots of flavor we had to order another one. The Wagyu roll was not very good. I was expecting a lot but the flavor was not there. I would not get it again and don't recommend it at all. The Tiger roll was great to. By the way my wife said that the Agedashi was the best she ever had. I tried it and it was so smooth and yummy. A plus since she is the Agedashi Queen. MY daughter got the beef sukiyaki and boy it was so good. A definite dish to get. We loved it. I wish this place was closer to where we live but we will be coming back. It is expensive but worth every penny. The sushi is so fresh no wonder it was on the Michelin Guide.

Yelp
Great sushi spot in SoMA. Very unassuming ambiance but the sushi and fish/seafood are super fresh. Recommend to order the daily special for sushi & sashimi. My favorite eats: Uni nigiri Amaebi nigiri Happy spoon- which is a raw oysters topped with ikura, tobiko and Uni

Yelp
I love Okane. Fish mostly coming from the Tsukiji market in Tokyo, is still at the core of the experience. Enjoy toro ($20 for two pieces, $40 for five pieces of sashimi); halibut or hirame, aji mackerel and Mirugai, giant surf clams are all extremely fresh. Specials on one visit included both salmon and hamachi belly where the fish drapes over small pads of rice totally hidden by the generous, fatty slices. The sushi chefs also offer nine or more specialty rolls that range from a filling of bluefin tuna with cucumber and green onions to a complex layering of salmon, tobiko, snow crab, rice and smashed avocado ($25). We also ordered a few cooked food including the agadashi tofu and chicken karage, both excellent.

Yelp
We really didn't enjot the food for the most part. But what really bothered me was that the server charged over 10.00 extra for a plate then the price on the menu (28.00 instead of 18 for the dynamite salmon). We are both servers and it is very unlikely that this was some system error with a 10.00 price difference. He most likely wrote the item onto the bill with a 10.00 upcharge using the POS computer. We also were charged some 6.00 "mandatory" SF fee. Oddly enough we went for dessert right next door at Niku (same owners) and we're not charged that very same "Mandatory" SF fee. We also used a $25 coupon only to find out we were charged for the full price when we got home. Way too many coincidences, we will absolutely never be going back.

Yelp
A great, underrated Japanese restaurant. I went there a few times and the menu is somewhat small. Everything was good. They are a sister restaurant of Omakase next door so that speaks volume. - Sunset roll (special menu): great but can be spicy - Akihabara roll: my favorite since it has eel - Agedashi tofu: very good

Yelp
Very disappointed in the new menu / food after the reopening - they hiked up price 30% and reduced the quality of the food by 50%. The rolls have become generic and forgettable. An old neightborhood favorite turned into just another overpriced and bland spot. At least the staff is still nice.

Yelp
We finally got to try this place. My husband has been wanting to come here to try this restaurant out. It totally did not disappoint!! We only wished this place was closer to where we lived. Food was so good!! We ordered the Tiger, Shinjuku, and Akihabara roll. All the rolls were very good. Fresh! I thought the Shinjuku was on the plan side. It was rice and wagyu. Loved the Akihabara roll. The mix of all the flavors were very good. I really love the Agedashi Tofu. I think this is the best Agedashi tofu I've ever had. The soup base was very flavorful and the tofu was silky smooth. The tofu was lightly fired perfectly. The Beef sukiyaki had a lot of flavor. Really, really good! The beef was tender and veggies were good. If this place was close to my house, I would eat here everyday!

Yelp
Made a reservation and came here on a weekday night. I've actually not been going to a lot of sushi restaurants in a while, so this was definitely a change. The restaurant is small and, maybe because of that and the setup, the atmosphere feels quite intimate. We ordered a couple of appetizers to share and we each ordered our own main entrée. I really liked the chirashi bowl and the mixed tempura and the price was very reasonable. The waiter was very friendly. We also ordered the seasonal cherry blossoms mochi, which was good but not mindblowing. Would definitely come back if I'm craving chirashi bowl :)

Yelp
I'm on a roll with these sushi restaurants. The atmosphere and service here was amazing. There was something wrong with my reservation but they were able to work magic and fit me in anyway. Rolls were delicious and loved the food, wished I could have tried more sushi/sashimi Rolls took a very long time to make.
