How Restaurants Name Their Menus | Eater

"Two sections—“Salo-Salo (Eat Together)” and “Para Sa Mesa (For the Table)”—sit side by side, offering what the menu presents as communal experiences; the labels, however, “sound like similar experiences,” which can blur the distinction between different scales of sharing even as they try to invoke cultural language and invite diners into a shared meal." - Jaya Saxena

Google
First Timer, Nicely decorated/themed I ordered a Matcha Milk Tea , Sumo Size, with strawberry and boba. The matcha milk taste just smooth not strong not light, I added strawberry flavor came in form of jelly inside cup walls, it was sweet on the strong side, not my liking that sweet but it was my personal mistake, the boba was not small in size but not big, just medium size. Overall good milk tea, just how I like it, reasonably priced. Perfect amount of ice cubes, on the light side, giving the milk tea protagonist presence.

Google
Love that this place has so many sizes of drinks to choose from. I love the huge OD size! It is huge and under $9. The Okinawa tea is so good. Will give you coffee vibes! 😜 The brown tea in it with the added flavors are worth the try. I'm hooked! Love taking pix in the fun house mirror while I wait for my drinks! The decor is so fun! I shared the OD size pix. Enjoy!

Google
This is a great place to go for dessert and drinks after a meal. They have excellent Boba choices, mine happens to be the oreo. They have indoor and outdoor seating, giving reasonable time to hang out. It does get busy at.times.but worth the wait.

Google
The design is so adorable and cute! Very tasty and fresh drinks. You can also order herbal tea and moshi. There is a wish tree near the wall on which you can leave your wish. The staff is friendly and the prices are affordable. Recommend!

Google
This is one of my favorite tea spots!! I love all their teas. My favorite is the honeydew tea with 25% sweetness. The drinks are super easy to customize as well. Definitely recommend this place !!

Google
Insanely delicious boba - some of the best I've had. The Okinawa Black Milk Tea with boba hit the spot perfectly. I visited about an hour before closing. Would return in a heartbeat and recommend to those who appreciate whimsical storefronts with tasty treats.

Google
The place is quiet which was nice. Mochi is only available on the weekend. The lady working the register and making drinks was very friendly

Google
Such a delicious cafe! The drinks were a lot of fun and the service was great! I forgot to take a picture but I got two strawberry fruit sandos and the woman who worked there offered to make me fresher sandwiches which was really kind. They had so many drinks to choose from, I look forward to going back and trying more exciting flavors!

Yelp
All the employees are nice:) Cute theme inside. Just the drink I got (banana strawberry smoothie) wasn't that good

Yelp
This was an interesting concept for the interior of a boba place. There is a lot happening within a short amount of time of just stepping into this place. I was confused to begin with. Service was great for it being a one woman show. She was getting through making the drinks as fast as she could. She was very responsive and patient. Drinks: I ordered the mango milk ice with boba and a strawberry milk ice with egg pudding. Both drinks were SUPER SWEET. Almost unbearably sweet. I'll come back here again, but look into their boba milk teas instead. Food: I bought the fresh strawberry sando.

Yelp
I love this place. There Boba Teas are the best! This is a family-owned business. Their dog is their mascot. He is so calm and friendly. This place has a WIDE array of flavors. You just can't go wrong. They are located in the heart of Gardena, in the Asian shopping center. You can either sit outside and chill or sit inside and chill. I love the vibe. They play all kinds of music. Today, there were playing Disney songs. You will be greeted by a smile and people very interested in taking your order and making you smile. And, please be patient. Each order is custom made. Small businesses are hurting right now. So, PLEASE stop by the place and give them some support. You won't be sorry.

Yelp
We like this cute spot! They have cute 2-D decor and they play good music! I enjoyed writing a note on their well wishes tree! Also, their piano works but there's a note that roughly says if you don't know how to play the piano then don't! Haha! Luckily while we were waiting for our drinks a guy knew how to play and he was pretty good! We ordered Strawberry Matcha Latte and Iced Kumquat Oolong Tea.

Yelp
Oko Cafe is located in the same plaza as Tokyo Central & Main, specifically next door to 88 Pocha. This tea house is dog friendly (inside and out are leashed dogs allowed). My husband, our little girl dog and I came here on a Sunday afternoon, around 3:45 pm. After looking over the menu, I ended up purchasing: Large Almond Milk Tea, (made with black tea and 25% sweetener), $5.75 prior to tax- I thought my drink was still on the sweet side, even with 25% sweetener. I would probably consider ordering at 0% sweetener then. But I did like the drink though. My husband also ended up purchasing a large drink, that I do not recall what he got, but it was $5.75 prior to tax. ------------------------------ (Total= $12.68 after tax) Service was friendly. The employee who took our order at the register (whom I suspect is the owner) actually took a dog biscuit from the dog treat jar from the counter and offered it to our little girl. The cafe itself inside is decorated like a comic book, 2D and makes for some great photos. Overall, we had a positive experience and would consider coming back the next time I am shopping at Tokyo Central.

Yelp
Cute interior. Love the fake 2D look and they really got the feel of the trains in Japan down. Layout is kind of weird and there's a lot of noise in the surroundings. They also seem to be in collaboration with various pop up shops in their space so it's kind of confusing especially having another tea shop in your tea shop but you make their teas for them also? We've popped in from time to time over the last 10 years. It's typically one of the last places open. Staff is always nice and helpful so no complaints there. I've always felt the drinks aren't great but decent and just over sugared. This last time I did a peach lychee oolong tea which is my staple at some other tea places but here it came out really bad... maybe the tea flavor was not my usual oolong or I needed a lot more sugar to bridge the gap (I did 50%). Tried to finish it but had to give up. Next time I'll just go for something safer like a peach green tea.
google avatar

Leslie A.

Yelp
I love the aesthetic of the place! It's really fun and i love the music!! The staff is always super friendly. I usually love the taro/blueberry smoothie with boba, and they have a great variety of flavors and fun sizes to choose from. They also have moshi moshi teas, which come in lots of varieties that you can smell to help you pick the one you want to try!! keep in mind moshi moshi is only on the weekends! They also have Tonghulu and other snacks! The cute decorations inside make the atmosphere even better. I definitely recommend checking it out if you're a boba lover!

Yelp
Oko Cafe is a sweet little cafe. To be honest, I remember coming here before, but not the drinks I got! I have pictures, so I do know. However, I will undoubtedly remember my most recent visit! We ate dinner in this plaza and I was in the mood for a drink afterwards. We wandered inside Oko and I noticed the Sakura Cherry Blossom & Moshi Moshi stuff. TIP: To order from the Momoko x Moshi Moshi menu, you must use the kiosk. You cannot order at the counter. When you step inside, you'll see that the furniture and decorations are all black & white. Like the artist drew all the lines with a black Sharpie! There's a train complete with seats & handholds for standing passengers. Too cute! Previously, there was a family of ducks that once graced that wall. There's also a guitar, telephone, computer, and a portrait of Albert Einstein! I love the functional piano named Hammond! They even provided a music book! It's neat that they change up the interior from time to time. This black & white drawn theme continues to the counter & the restroom! Parking is free at the Pacific Square Shopping Center. The two items I wanted required me to use the kiosk. I got the Sakura Cherry Black Milk Tea with Kikkoman Organic Soy Milk & Sakura Honey Boba ($7.65) - I loved this drink! The tea bag is left in the cup. The drink itself was quite ambrosial! What made this drink a notch above was the Sakura Honey Boba! They were absolutely amazing and more than worth the 90¢! I don't know if this is permanently on the (kiosk) menu or not, but I need to get some more! I was a little bit sad when I finished my drink! [ https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/oko-cafe-gardena-3?select=HDhM2qA-BfKUOVKaOJZ_Mw ] Interesting fact: Momoko x Moshi Moshi offers 5 different Milk choices - Kikkoman Organic Soy Milk, Oatly Oat Milk, Stratus Organic Milk, Califia Almond Milk, and Hokkaido Non-Dairy Creamer. We also wanted to try the Fresh Tama Strawberry Sakura Cream Sando ($5.50). It took a while for this sando to come out because it is made fresh. It looked like quite a work of art! I must say that eating it was a feat in itself! I tried to cut my half into bite-sized pieces, but everything oozed out from the bread and made a mess! I ended up eating it as a deconstructed sandwich. In a way, it reminded me of a Strawberry Shortcake. [ https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/oko-cafe-gardena-3?select=cirXq4KbQYoaVXiTA6FjPg ] It was worth the extra time it took to get the drink & sando because they were made fresh while we waited! Looking back at my pictures, I've been here three times with a 2 year gap between each visit. Wow! I can assure you that I will undoubtedly return this year, not two years from now!

Yelp
Great coffee & customer service! The shop setting is super cute, lots to see especially the wishing tree... you have to see it to understand. Can't wait to bring my kids!!
google avatar

Kim C.

Yelp
I didn't see food options. The beverages are always a hit! The service is always good and we love the ambiance. The black and white is really cool and love that they change it periodically. They also have what I call them tree of thoughts - a wish tree. You find yourself (at least I do) praying for those you don't know, and laughing/smiling at some of the comments. Overall, it's a nice place with reasonable prices!
google avatar

Cody P.

Yelp
This cafe is cute! It has a unique paper doodle art style featured in the decor, such as the subway wall with real hanging handles and the paper piano. The drinks themselves are just ok to me. I got 70% sugar and it was still quite sweet. I also didn't taste much tea. The boba was a little chewy, but I would have preferred softer. I like that you can choose your own flavors to mix into the milk tea though. The workers are nice; the older gentleman let us pet his dog. I... might come back... I heard the sandos are good so maybe next time.
google avatar

Reina Y.

Yelp
My sister love their strawberry fruit sando. Definately getting more fruit sando since my sis hugged me after she took a bite. And I do like their tiny boba. But not much fan of their flavored tea drinks. Most of them taste very syrup sweet flavors. This place is usually not crowd but they take time to take your order. Not the best service. White and black popart themed interior. Some loves it some thinks it is too much.
google avatar

Erin T.

Yelp
I haven't been to Oko in YEARS and my friends and I randomly decided to try it for dessert tonight. I used to be a regular at Oko and I remember that their boba was always super soft. To my disappointment today, the boba was pretty hard and chewy. Maybe it was because we went later at night. I got the signature milk tea, regular size, 75% sweet, and added boba. The milk tea had pretty good flavor! It was a bit watery and could have been a bit stronger, but overall was pretty good.
google avatar

Lourella M.

Yelp
Been coming here for over 10 years and have gone through all the changes even with their ambiance and drink menu. Still just as good as I remember it. When I went I got the OKINAWA BLACK SUGAR ORGANIC MILK with honey boba. Soo yummy. The boba was fresh and delicious as well. The woman who took my order was friendly as well. Brings me back to my early twenties memories.
google avatar

Rachael I.

Yelp
Hidden Gardena gem! I love their Thai tea and matcha tea when I don't want to crash from my beloved iced coffee. The boba is spot on and had the right amount of texture and wasn't chunky grainy, my boba peeps know what I'm talking about! The service is ok, I never had an issue. There was 1 really friendly worker 1 time but I didn't catch her name. You can order at the pos screen or with the workers but you can tell they prefer you to order at the pos screen on the side right when you walk in. For some reason I just love the black marker vibe they have going on and they even have a piano you can play with in the corner. My favorite part about this cafe is that you can write a wish on the paper provided and hang your wish on the pink tree. This gives people hope which is lacking nowadays. I will be back thank you!
google avatar

Jocelyn M.

Yelp
A cute and creative looking cafe!! Love love the piano that they have there it sounds absolutely amazing. And the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable when it comes to what is tasty! It was first time stopping by, I usually go to Tokyo Central and saw that this cafe was the last place open so I said why not check it out. I enjoyed the drink that was suggested and it was affordable. Will I be back again! Absolutely!

Yelp
Dessert after dinner in Torrance, Los Angeles, California... Is boba tea a dessert? Well... It's something sweet after dinner! I actually ordered a Mojito with Blue Curacao and Club Soda (instead of Green Tea - because I want to go to sleep soon... LOL!). I was going to get watermelon, but, I thought that I should get something different. Blue Curacao Mojito had a hint of mint in a lightly citrus, bubbly drink. It was refreshing, pretty (those shades of Dodger blue!), and not too sweet, but just right! This was a cool place - like being in a cartoon! The drawings on the walls made it seem like we were riding the Japan railway. There were handles hanging from the ceiling - the kind that you hold on to while the vehicle is in motion. Very trendy! There's even a cute wall mural on the way to the restroom - and a squiggly mirror for amusement purposes! The best part was when one of the customers started playing the real piano. I could figure out the first song, but not the second. Wow... He was really good! After and before the live concert, the music was on the loud side. We just texted each other instead of yelling... LOL! Thanks to the patient cashier for taking orders from the three of us. She knew exactly what to ask: what size, any boba, what flavor, etc.

Yelp
They have a collab with Moshi Moshi and currently is serving tanghulu and some fruit sandwiches. My boyfriend suggested that I try it since we were in the area and bought me one since I've never had it fresh before. The strawberry to sugar ratio was perfect and surprisingly more delicious than I had expected it to be. It is a bit sticky to eat and I had to be cautious to not get poked by the sugar shards as I was chewing it. The strawberries were juicy and sweet on top of the pure sugar coating around it.

Ann M.

Yelp
All drinks are hand made to your order preference. Fresh strawberries and mango sandwiches Cute 2D interior! Staff were super friendly Great place to hang out! Ordered red bean smoothie w red bean 9/10 Brown sugar milk tea w boba 7/10 Strawberry and Mango sandwiches 10/10!!!!!!!
google avatar

Francis V.

Yelp
This place is so cute they put a lot of work into their decor. They have a variety of Boba drinks, slushes and deserts. I had a guava slush with Boba and it was good. We also had a Strawberry sandwich which was different. It had huge strawberries with strawberry cream, the inside was delicious the white sandwich bread was definitely something different that I'm not used to. We didn't eat the bread because it wasn't sweet, it did not go well with the inside IMO. There was a couple of people in front of us, but it took a while for drinks to be made. I thought it was pretty funny that the lady taking orders speaks over a microphone while you're standing right in her face. There's a large parking lot with plenty of parking right out front
google avatar

Damaris C.

Yelp
TLDR: top TIER playlist, the drink was honestly too sweet. I've ordered the Okinawa Black Sugar Organic Milk before, and it usually never fails to disappoint. I went last night, after a long night at work, and was super excited to try one of my favorite drinks. It's usually top tier, but for some reason the drink was just a little too much (I used some water I had to dilute it & make it a bit less bitter; seemed to do the trick). I do have to say, their playlist is GOOD. It's a good place to chill and chat at, and the workers are really quick with the drinks. I would come back and try a different drink.
google avatar

Taylor Z.

Yelp
Cute cafe with some interesting drinks. They were more on the gimicky side than really tasty.
google avatar

Jenny K.

Yelp
Cute place Had simple boba Really cute place right next to 88 Pocha in Gardena Friday night was busy and would come back
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Girlfriend wanted a smoothie and it was next door to the restaurant we went. Interior is very fun! It resembles a sketch as if you're inside a giant sketchbook. Awesome and creative interior. This strawberry smoothie is exactly what I was looking for. No bananas or other funny ingredients. It was very delightful and fresh! Service was good too as staff were efficient and friendly. I'd come back again! Although 5 stars, the strawberries inside the fridge has some fuzz on it, and displays inside has dust. Hope the staff cleans the store regularly!
google avatar

Akiko N.

Yelp
The reviews all said not to get the drinks, so I got the strawberry Sando. It was so delicious! Just the right amount of sweet, it was almost like a thicker strawberry yogurt filling with strawberries inside of it. I personally think it's cute, with a nice theme and a wish tree! I just wish there was more selection.

Cindy O.

Yelp
Everything went well! I always get the same thing , Smoothie with up to 3 different toppings. Mine is Grape, Watermelon, Strawberry!
google avatar

Maria F.

Yelp
We have been here a few times and find that service is often slow-ish or a longer wait than anticipated. We decided to try again this visit as it has been a while and they were having a collaboration with Moshi Moshi Tea Shoppu. To order the Moshi Moshi options, you have to order from the Kiosks. When we were ordering, a surprising number of options were sold out. We ordered Moshi Moshi drinks and snacks: Decaf Earl Grey Milk Tea Sakura Cherry Milk Tea Strawberry Mochi When we first ordered, my drink was not listed as Sold Out. We got all the way to the payment window before we were informed the item was sold out. Be prepared to have to order two times. Once the order was submitted, we waited at least 15-20 min for our drinks. There was only 1-2 parties ahead of us. The drinks were ok. My spouse's drink tasted like Robitussin milk tea. My Earl Grey drink had a weird aftertaste. I don't know if it's due to the non-dairy creamer I chose. The mochi was fine. It may be a while before we try this place again. The new drinks with Moshi Moshi look interesting. Unfortunately, we chose the wrong drinks to try. You may have better luck! Enjoy!
google avatar

Victoria C.

Yelp
Love the overall vibe of the place! I feel the drinks are on the sweeter side, but you can always adjust the sweetness. Would definitely come again if I'm in the area.
google avatar

Paul L.

Yelp
Oko! Love the decor. I've heard of these kind of 2D decor... but the first time seeing it in person. Ordered the following. Taro milk tea - Good. Standard fare taro milk tea. Tastes as expected. Got with boba, and the boba was well made. Matcha green tea - Good. Again taste as expected. Nothing crazy exceptional but good. Passionfruit peach oolong tea - idea sounded good but I'm wondering if someone forgot to put the sugar. I ordered 25% sugar (my standard) but this felt like no sugar was added so it tasted super watery. I'm hoping it was some kind of mistake bc it was way off. The other two drinks were fine. The taro milk tea was at 25% too and tasted fine. So to summarize. Cool decor. Decent drinks. One big mistake.
google avatar

Monica W.

Yelp
Been to this place before they did this full makeover and I must say this is a nice go to boba spot In Gardena. I love the concept that you can custom your drink with any flavors that you want . I forgot to take a picture of mines and my husband's drinks but I got two drinks 1 was black tea with mango , watermelon and strawberries the other one was black tea with pineapple mango and peach . Both were really good . The service was really nice and helpful I wish they had crystal boba but that's ok . Will be back again

William N.

Yelp
Ordered Thai milk tea, Okinawa milk tea and plum tea. The milk teas were hard to drink because they both have after taste of Coffee Mate creamer. The plum tea was very tarty and less plum like. The larger sizes offered were a red flag for us as the drinks were very cheap price wise. We didn't try the signature drinks, in which is probably better than the milk teas. I don't recommend the milk teas unless you like coffee mate flavor.
google avatar

Wendy G.

Yelp
Interesting concept. I got all sumo sizes.! The OD scared me a bit soo I decided to go one size down. They do have alternative milk such as oats milk for the dairy free option. Drinks: signature milk tea w/boba and substitute milk w/ oats milk, signature milk tea w/ boba and Thai milk tea w/ boba. All 100 sweets. Next time I'll go with 75% sweet. The drinks are on the sweeter side. Its perfect for individual with a sweet tooth!
google avatar

Aida R.

Yelp
The Boba was good and so was the service. However I do have to mention that they do not have popcorn chicken like the Yelp page says. They told me they took it off a while ago which I was sad to hear.
google avatar

Julianna M.

Yelp
I do love the bubble tea they have. Unique flavor, stands out. The drink sare really good. Everyone here is super friendly. The place is relaxing, sometimes I'll come in and get a drink with the neice and soak up the vibe. Reasonably priced too. Its worth checking out!
google avatar

George S.

Yelp
It is the bomb! I could always try anytime with this cute tiny place how what so ever. I'll give that a very good 5 star review. At your services an outstanding delightful business running so well.
google avatar

Zach Z.

Yelp
I ordered OD size and paid extra boba ( written as 2xB) but look how much boba is on it? Barely! Even ask the staff and she confirmed it's already extra boba! Imagine if I didn't pay for extra boba??? So sad!
google avatar

Erik A.

Yelp
The pastry are good and so are the drinks. Friendly service and great people that work there.
google avatar

Yushi H.

Yelp
Such a great late night boba shop! Love the theme/vibes here. I visited with friends and was surprised to see how many options they had on their menu! I enjoyed a Oolong milk tea with matcha and boba. My friend let me know that the drinks are on the sweeter side here, so I adjusted the sweetness to 25% for my drink, and it was still decently sweet but I liked it. Definitely visiting again soon!
google avatar

Olivia C.

Yelp
this plaza offers a lot of fun and yummy options but oko is my favorite for their cute interior designs and their strawberry sando! very fresh and not too sweet, their boba is very good as well. can't wait to go back and try the trending tanghulu

ChrIs G.

Yelp
The girls that work here stand around talking and not taking your order. Even after you order it takes forever to get your drink! They only see you standing in line waiting to order and they will still stand around yapping and not helping the customers. Worst part is they want a tip on top of it and that's how they be treat customers! Won't be back.
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
I ordered two mochi, after 15 minutes of waiting I asked for a refund. They then went straight and got them, and didn't even offer an apology, and wouldn't go through with the refund even though I decided I didn't want them.
google avatar

Andrea J.

Yelp
Still delicious! Still warm and courteous customer service! My son loves the slushes, and I love the milk tea! One of the only places around that does a coconut flavored milk, tea! The best!

Khoa N.

Yelp
Milk tea was good but the amount of boba was lacking. Wish they add more. My drink only had two layers of boba.
google avatar

Marjorie U.

Yelp
This is a fun place to have Boba. They have outdoor seating, and they are open late at night. They have this sumo-size Boba and two other sizes to choose from. You can customize your Boba the way you like it. They also offer non-dairy for your drink or for your Boba. Plenty of parking spaces.
google avatar

Lani M.

Yelp
I've been a regular at Oko since I was in middle school!! It's a nicely decorated and welcoming boba shop with a huge variety of great drinks, like milk tea, slush, etc. One of the things I love about Oko is the atmosphere. It's the perfect place to hang out with friends. My friends and I often pick this place as a hangout spot when we're in town to catch up! The decor is black and white like a cartoon, which adds a really fun and playful touch and makes it perfect for photos. I love all the drinks here! I've tried tons of different milk teas and slush drinks. My favorite drink is the vanilla milk tea at 25% sweetness with boba. I appreciate that you can adjust the sweetness level to your preference. The service has also consistently been great. It's never too long of a wait. I highly recommend checking out Oko if you're in town. Super cute decor, great atmosphere, and amazing boba drinks!
google avatar

Emi B.

Yelp
Came here for the 2D interior. It looks great from far away but looks a bit sloppy when you're near it. I really liked the Lupicia tea collaboration going on, but you do have to order them from the machine in the front of the store. Got a little sample Lupicia tea, which was great! Service was pretty fast.
google avatar

Aimee A.

Yelp
Okay, wow, have never reviewed this place after coming a gazillion times. They have lots of drink options (boba, smoothies, slushies, etc), and have updated their interior and exterior spaces. Very nice service. Also, it is situated in a plaza with lots to see - there's a BookOff, Tokyo Central, -8c rolled ice cream, and other drinks and eateries. Enjoy!
google avatar

Hyeonmi S.

Yelp
such cute interior theme is a black and white subway/train station!! made my own slushie drink and it was surprisingly pretty good. i'd come here whenever i'm craving something refreshing

Yelp
With so many boba spots in Gardena, you gotta differentiate yourself somehow and Oko Cafe serves nothing but mini boba. Their regular boba is their mini boba so you might be in for a surprise if you just want regular boba. I'm personally not that big of a mini boba fan but they have other toppings to suit your style. I got the Okinawa brown sugar milk tea and thought it was good. I appreciate the number options for cup sizes. It might even be worthwhile to get the super large size and share it with someone if you want the same flavor. You can even mix a couple flavors if you're feeling adventurous. With so many different combinations and sizes to choose from, Oko Cafe does a good job of making the experience to your liking. I just wish they had regular boba.
