"Ol’ South is a Fort Worth staple—you might have ended a few nights here with a big group of friends after a Friday night football game, when you could eat stacks of pancakes, chicken fried steaks, and fries smothered with chili and cheese without worrying about the acid reflux in the morning. This was a great place to eat! Our waitress was great and so was the food! I got the French toast, fried eggs and bacon and it was delish. I tasted their famous German pancake with strawberries and it was so good, she added the toppings and folded it up at the table. Others with me got the chicken fried steak, the omelet with pancakes and the steak and eggs and they were very happy with their choices. We will definitely eat here again.

Looking for a breakfast spot with mouthwatering pancakes? 🥞 We’ve passed this place countless times on our trips to Fort Worth—and finally stopped in. Now we know why it’s always packed! If fluffy, delicious pancakes are your thing, this spot delivers. — Mr. S’s Travel Quest Host on YouTube Travel Channel

Google
We got served by a robot which was such a fun and unexpected surprise! It definitely added a cool, futuristic twist to our dining experience. Our human server was also incredibly kind and made us feel right at home. The food was really good overall, and I have to say, they serve some of the best pancakes I’ve ever had super fluffy and extremely sweet, just the way I like them. I’d definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in the area and looking for something both tasty and unique!

Google
Super nice staff! Large menu with too much to choose from, well, just hard to decide. It all looks so good! I got the skillet with a little bit of everything, just had to get some extra gravy. Tasted my daughters chicken and waffles. Very good! Freshly breaded and fried chicken cooked perfectly! Great place to take the family!

Google
Great place to eat. Open 24 hours. Many choices including breakfast all day. The German pancakes are delicious. Keg tater tots are large and served with ranch. Sweet tea was good. Anaya was our waitress, very efficient polite and friendly. Very clean and food was served hot

Google
First time here after reading good reviews. The restaurant has a nostalgic country feel upon entry. However, the host who seated us was not very welcoming which set the tone. Our server, Nayela, was kind and accommodating, which made up for the initial impression. I was surprised by how busy it was for a Friday morning. To eat, I ordered the breakfast tacos with turkey bacon, which were just okay—nothing special, and a bit sloppy in presentation (6/10). I also tried the Dutch baby pancake, which was delicious! It had a spongecake-like texture but was more moist, with a sweet and tangy filling. One was just enough (9/10), though the presentation could have been better. Overall, the food was decent, but the lack of a welcoming atmosphere made the experience less enjoyable. Glad I got to try it, but likely wouldn’t return.

Don't underestimate the south. Some of the absolute best food that has ever graced my mouth. These aren't IHOP pancakes, these are reel with grandma's love pancakes that'll have you wanting to sleep right after. Every bit of my meal was immaculate and the service can't be compared to anywhere else. Brylie is the best server I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Google
Ol’ South Pancake House is one of my absolute favorite spots in Fort Worth! I always get the German pancake — it’s a must-try if you’ve got a sweet tooth. It’s perfectly lemony, eggy, and just the right amount of indulgent. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, and has this nostalgic, old-school diner vibe that makes every visit feel special. I love bringing out-of-town visitors here for breakfast because it’s such a fun and welcoming spot. Great food, friendly service, and a true Fort Worth classic!

Yelp
Best pancakes in the world this place is amazing. Kitty was great amazing personality great waitress.

Ashlynn H.

Yelp
Kitty was our waitress and she was AMAZING!! The food is delicious, I loved their jalapeño cheese sausage (so order that if you can). The wait was worth it, but if you can make a reservation I would.

Cathy P.

Yelp
the food here is always good. our server today was kitty!! she is so so sweet, honestly so refreshing to be met with such hospitality. she seemed to be really great with all the tables around us as well :)

Kathy M.

Yelp
Husband and I saw this place on a YouTube video (pancake challenge) and since we have family in Texas we decided to try it! We came for breakfast and it DELICIOUS! The portions were the right size and very filling! I had the breakfast sandwich; the meat was cooked to perfect and savory and everything just blended so well together! If you're in the area and you love breakfast, I definitely recommend you try this place!

Yelp
Be very wary of ordering online. My online order had gone through, my card was charged, and I had an email to wait for the confirmation.... 15 minutes go by and I call because I never received a confirmation and I'm trying to pick up food for my 3rd shift team. I'm then told that the system is down, my order will be kicked back and the charge will be kicked back but I need to reorder through the phone. Food is reordered, card is charged again. I go to pick up the food and reconfirm that I will get refunded for the original charge. Food itself was good. Everything was freshly made and packaged well. Later that morning I get an email confirmation and text that my order is being processed... the one that I was told would be kicked back. I call immediately and explain, then recieved a cancelation text. A couple of days later I check my card statement and there is still 2 charges..... mind you it's over a hundred dollars for each charge. I had to call yet again to have them look into it and refund me. Overall food was okay, establishment was clean and had plenty of seating, but was it worth the hassle? Absolutely not.

Yelp
I almost always come here whenever I'm in the area, and every time, it was always crowded, so be prepared to wait (especially during lunch/brunch time). After about 30 min wait, I was shown to the table. Then, it took another 15 min (at least) to get orders taken. Maybe they're understaffed, but it was borderline unacceptable. The food is not bad. Portion is fairly generous, and price is cheap. It's a standard breakfast/brunch place. The place is loud, so it's definitely something to keep in mind. The floor feels sticky, and overall feel is kinda dirty (this time worse than before). I am not sure if I'll be back next time. I think part of the reason why I keep coming back is nostalgia. If they can improve service and cleanliness, I'll definitely keep it in my rotation.

Amanda M.

Yelp
The place just feels dirty when you walk in. The set up is very crowded. The food is mediocre at best. The German pancakes are good but definitely not worth the trip. The service was also mediocre. Our server had an attitude and was snarky with our son telling him how loud it was in there and he needed to speak up so she could hear him. She could have asked nicely. Trying to pay and get out the door is a mess. As people are crowded together in a tiny space in front of the register. This crowd is people waiting to pay, people waiting for a table and people trying to get a table. Just not a good layout, ambiance or experience. This is the kind of place that just wants to get people in and out as quickly s possible without any real service.

Traci R.

Yelp
Had a wonderful lunch at the Ole South Pancake House Food was Awesome and Kitty our server was amazing love the Chicken Fried Steak and if you don't get a German pancake then you're really missing out Oh and the BOB is amazing as well

Aaron W.

Yelp
Nice casual diner. Good comfort food. Patty melt is delicious. Pancakes and french toast is the best. Service is prompt and gracious.

Linda U.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. Especially the German pancakes. If you haven't tried one you at least need to try one in all its glory. The lunch food looks like a typical restaurant, I don't really see anybody diving in for lunch. The breakfast here is to die for. And you can have breakfast here all day long.

Tom L.

Yelp
I was referred to this diner by a friend, historic 24 hour restaurant nearby TCU campus and a good place for late night food and if you are looking for simple eats. Traditional eggs, bacon, toast, hash browns, nothing totally special. The best part of the dish is the crispy bacon, they have the bacon on lock, very good salty crispy bacon. The hash browns, ehhh they were nothing special. Somewhat bland, no flavor. Dry. I think what was missing was more moisture, needed better and more crispier exterior. Toast needed more favor, nice added whipped butter. Salt was missing from everything. Eggs were perfectly cooked.

Ian W.

Yelp
Wow!! What a sad place to visit two omelets ordered at the table one was half the size of the other. Let's not get started about the oatmeal, taste like it's been sitting in a warming pot all day where's the brown sugar that was suppose to be on it? Tater Kegs should've ordered more those were delicious. Doubt I would ever visit this place again!!

Matt K.

Yelp
I visited Ol South Pancake House for breakfast, looking forward to sampling their renowned offerings. The experience was a mixed bag, with some dishes hitting the mark and others falling short. A standout was the sausage biscuits and gravy. The dish was hearty, flavorful, and comforting - everything you'd want in a classic breakfast staple. The gravy was rich and well-seasoned, complementing the freshly baked biscuits perfectly. The scrambled eggs were another highlight. They were cooked to a fine texture, avoiding the large, chunky pieces often found in less carefully prepared scrambles. This attention to detail in cooking made the eggs particularly enjoyable and a cut above the standard fare. The German Pancake, while good in flavor, had an unexpected texture that didn't completely win me over. It was impressively large, and in hindsight, a mini version might have been a better choice. The pancake's spongy texture was a bit off-putting for me, although the overall taste was pleasant. In summary, Ol South Pancake House serves up a decent breakfast with some dishes standing out more than others. The sausage biscuits and gravy, along with the finely scrambled eggs, are worth trying. However, be mindful of the portion sizes and textures, particularly with the German Pancake, which might not suit everyone's palate. Overall, it's a solid option for a hearty breakfast, though it may not exceed expectations.

Robert W.

Yelp
Ok my daughter has recommended this place in Fort Worth. It didn't disappoint. The food was great and so was the service. Not to mention the prices were very reasonable. I would recommend the German Pancake sampler. They were skimpy on the ice for some reason. If you're ever in Fort Worth give them a try.

Pam D.

Yelp
Super long wait for our food to come out. MY steak was fantastic. My husband's plate of eggs, not so much. His food didn't look good, like it was thrown on the plate. We ate here a year ago on vacation and it was good. This time only one waiter, angry hungry customers and poor food. To make it worse, hubs came down with food poisoning. Hopefully they can get it together here. It could be a great place.

Shrelle T.

Yelp
The food was ok. My omelet wasn't quite an omelet. I thought an omelet meant that everything goes inside the egg not just piled on top. The biscuits were delicious. I would go back to try the pancakes or French toast.

El K.

Yelp
I think Ol' South is a must visit if you are in Texas. I enjoyed their German pancake since it's different that the regular ol' pancakes I had. Being brutally honest, i could careless about the fried steak; it's dry and tasteless. Totally would go back for their German pancake.

Yelp
Just a solid and nostalgic Fort Worth staple. I have gone here for forever with my family and then with my friends and college and it's a great spot for some classic American breakfast! Also it's always open which is super nice and doesn't take too long at all!

Steven B.

Yelp
Tried for the first time and last couldn't even finish my TikTok video. Eggs were undercooked waitress was really bad. Had to actually get up and walk towards the kitchen to get refills on our drinks. When they seen I was upset the door man with glass just stares me down and until I told him something and he backed off. I suggest go somewhere else if your hungry.

Lori P.

Yelp
I grew up close to Ol' South and try to go whenever I'm in town. It is good solid diner type food. The food is well cooked, fresh and good. Nothing fancy. Just good. Great service. Just don't go during TCU home games.

Lore L.

Yelp
When it's open 24 hours a day, you know it's gotta be good! The wood panel walls and wall mural are indicative of the 80s when it was opened, but that just adds to the ambiance of the experience. I was looking forward to a Dt Dr Pepper but they only had Dt Coke but that wasn't a deal breaker. The home style pancakes were great and my husband said his eggs Benedict were amazing, as well. Our server came by regularly to check on us and our food was served quickly. Check it out! I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Azelia L.

Yelp
I'm writing this review because my brain is melting from looking at reproductive anatomy and it could use the break from recalling the delightful experience we had at Ol' South. Automatic points for being open on New Year's Eve!! We flew in from Chicago and this was one of the few places open. It felt like it was run by family in there. We were handed kazoos and there were balloons waiting to be released on the ceiling. At 12:00 am, a young worker was parading around with a child on her back counting down the night and released said balloons. Our waitress was also very friendly and happy which really rubbed off on us. Chicken and waffles - VERY GOOD HIT THE SPOT 9/10 Tri-Fit Trainer Omlete: dare I say it? Too much turkey bacon. I loved they were generous but it was so salty and there wasn't enough egg to pair with it. 6/10 Felt cleaner and more homey than any Denny's or IHOP, give it a try if you have late night munchies

Vic V.

Yelp
Super great staff service! Our waitress was very accommodating & gave us enough time to decide & our order came promptly within 20 mins. Coffee is continuously poured! My wife had the banana stack pancakes, her Mom ordered the vege omelet & I had the steak, eggs & hash browns. The dining area is clean & roomy. Great for family or large parties. Everything came hot & cooked to perfection! We're definitely coming back. Thank You

Justin N.

Yelp
Not great. Expected more and got way less. This place way busy. And based on reviews I figured that and was ok with that but thought I'd get a great breakfast. This was not the case. The only reason for one star is that the staff was very very nice. But very very busy. Everything is a bit old and a bit overcrowded. Didn't like that much but there was still enough room for our group of 5 and surprisingly got seated very quickly. The food was very very disappointing. Eggs were over cooked. Bacon either way under cooked or over cooked. I am not even sure how to describe the pancakes besides very dry and yellow. Why were they so yellow. Sausage was like eating jerky. We ordered a big Dutch baby. Not good. Not good on any level. Pretty much everyone at our table agreed it was not worth the trip back. Can get a better breakfast at an ihop or Dennys.

Chickenleigh F.

Yelp
Southern at its finest!! Lovely and unique! although i rather crackerbarel! but food was nice, and service was...something?

Joanna L.

Yelp
I came here for Dutch babies and I'm happy to report that I'll be back for more. We got the Dutch baby sampler which comes with bite sizes of 2 original, 2 strawberry, 2 blueberry, and 2 apple. The sampler was nearly the same price as a 2 piece of the regular plate so that was a no brainer for my first time but I think my favorite is still the original. The strawberry one was really good too. The blueberries liked to roll too much and the apple was a bit too sweet and overpowered the Dutch baby. I shared this and I'm not gonna lie I was pretty content after this. I'm not sure I needed an entree too, but it was already ordered. I got the chicken fried steak with Mac and cheese, fried squash, and cornbread. I really enjoyed all of it, but I have to say that I had a bite of the chicken fried chicken too, and I think I liked that one better than the steak! They were both fried up so nice and crispy crunchy. That batter is just yum!! I like my Mac and cheese pretty plain so this was perfect for me. No breadcrumbs or fancy cheeses for me lol

K L.

Yelp
Always amazing food with reasonable prices BLT especially good . Plus sign up for the app for free baby

Jade G.

Yelp
The food here is really yummy and perfect if you are looking for a homestyle breakfast. The German pancakes are great, especially with the apple topping. Stacy was great and very attentive. Highly recommend this place!

Elizabeth T.

Yelp
Oh boy. Where to start. I heard about this place though a friend. They said it was good and it's open 24 hours. Maybe I was expecting it to be really good or I ordered the wrong thing. Tbh after this experience we'll probably stick to ihop. Either that or I don't understand what the difference is between southern style breakfast or not. I'm glad I came here with good company though. I'd say it's a great spot if you're there to hang out because it gets crazy busy and long wait times. At one point it was getting crowded they opened up the rest of the dining area. It's nice that they're doing well for themselves. I saw that it was getting a bit out of hand but someone came over and took charge and got it under control so that's good. Our waitress was nice and took our order from memory. What's crazy was that my friend wanted whipped cream but forgot to tell her and then good news was that she did end up putting whipped cream on it so win win. When you're ready you pay the bill at the counter when you get your check. As far as food, I wouldn't come here for the food. Nothing that I tried really stood out to me. I'd probably have to try other food but it came out lukewarm at best. The fruits I added for the pancake had a weird texture. So I'd probably stick to fruits that don't have as much variable like banana. My friend was very nice but I assumed she didn't like some things because she left them untouched. I don't like to waste so I ended up taking my pancakes to go and eating them for breakfast at home the next day which somehow tasted better with my warm syrup and after microwaving the pancakes. But yeah we probably won't be back but it was a good experience to give it a try.

Mick R.

Yelp
On our last visit it was plain to see the Ol' South is living on a past reputation. Service was OK, but the food was barely mediocre. Sausage gravy was from a package, with old, overcooked sausage dumped on top. The place could also use a good steam cleaning.

Alan M.

Yelp
9/19 - Updated review. I tried this location again and I have to say my review above is pretty accurate. The waitress was extremely polite and attentive, I was seated quickly, my order was taken and the food arrived promptly. I think the issue is my expectations. It's the little things in relation to the food. For example: I ordered pancakes. They were so dry they crumbled into tiny pieces where I struggled to get an actually bite that wasn't crumb. Eggs needed a touch of milk to fluff them up. Bacon was dry, typically this is from being precooked and sitting on the side of the griddle. They didn't serve real butter as standard just fake butter flavor something. I did ask for butter and the waitress said she'd have to find it. She eventually found me some of which I was appreciative. The issue here was the manager. He was a jerk. He demeaned waitresses right in front of customers. He openly talked about how disgusting people were and even said that because one man stunk, he doesn't belong with humans. It got so bad the waitresses told him "this conversation is over. Walk away". The manager admitted he was from Dallas, which could be the issue but without a doubt, he was pathetically rude. In the end, a facility is only as good as it's leadership. For me, my expectations are just too high for this restaurant. I hope that staff complains to the owner and they get rid of that manager. There's no justification for demeaning people in front of customers.

Jo Jo P.

Yelp
Still no change to this place; I fear the owners must be in good with inspectors but also goes to prove a restaurant doesn't need to be clean to serve so called edible food. I breakfast (again) with a professional group and had eggshells in my eggs another lady found cockroach head and legs in hers all while discussing where else can we have these meetings in the future because NO ONE at the table wanted to come back to the Ol' South Pankcake House again. How are they still open? What "connected" family owned this filthy place? And doesn't get shutdown by the health department.

Sig L.

Yelp
My friend told us to go try this famous breakfast place. We order the skillet and biscuits my friend love it. The pancakes were okay typical old style diner food. Glad we tried it.

Kimberly W.

Yelp
I've been coming here my entire life. The food, the service, always excellent. This place is huge and can easily accommodate large groups. It has a traditional pancake house vibe. The German Pancake is the best!

Sarah T.

Yelp
Great food, friendly servers, good price. The German pancake is definitely a unique menu item that you have to try- but would be good to split amongst the table to sample and then order your own brunch! Can't go wrong with this menu.

Sammy J.

Yelp
Look, im not gonna sugar coat it...the food is great. Amazing pancakes. Worth a stop. BUT...the interior? Call me Rosa parks cause I felt like I was back inna 60's. I walked in and I was hit with the "what do you want here boi" like "don't be causin no trouble here boy" "your section is the in back BOUY" they put the WHIP in whipped cream pancakes. Remodel the place. But I love it. 10/10 (This is a review based on decor, and the food. The people are very nice and friendly 10/10. All of this is pretty much a knock on the decor. I just like to make a humorous review instead of something boring. Not meant for anything serious.)

Valerie F.

Yelp
As a first time visitor I was excited to try a new to me food experience. I love diners and all things Americana when it comes to breakfast, and I cherish locally owned, non-corporate owned restaurants. Ol' South PH lived up to the hype! When we arrived we were a little dismayed, the wait was standing room only, but we were happily surprised to get a table in less than 15 minutes. I had to get the German Pancake, and I'm so glad I did, it was delicious! Our server was so friendly, she showed me how to add the lemon juice to the pancake, and did a whole presentation on the folding of it, by the way, it was huge! My husband got the blueberry pancakes with the vanilla batter and we both had leftovers to take home. The food was delicious, and our crispy bacon was perfection! We will definitely be back, I can't wait to take others there for a late night breakfast!

Megan G.

Yelp
Okay, so we found this place on yelp. Now, hear me out. We were trying to go to Waffle House, but had a bad experience and it was closed. It was just after 12am, we just left the Metallica concert and we were starving. Finding this gem was a blessing. The pork chops were recommended by the sweet server- she was so cool. They were DELICIOUS. The pancakes my husband ordered were so sweet and fluffy. The food was fresh and HOT. The bacon was that good oil burnt bacon- my favorite and that sausage was delicious as well. I asked for toast and grape jelly- it was sooo satisfying! A very welcoming place, a little busy but so worth the few minute wait. The only complaint, while it is super cute and cozy. It's very dated. But, in a good weird way. I guess the saying is right- "if it's not broke, don't fix it" I honestly can't wait to be back in this area.

Nicole M.

Yelp
Delicious pancakes! Great service and fast accurate orders . Will definitely be bringing my whole family to give them a try.

Evangelina P.

Yelp
Always open Fort Worth pancake place staple. Ordered a Dutch baby. My meal was good. Nothing fancy, no frills. Service was simple, nothing less nothing more. Went here for a late night snack after coming from the stockyards. We had a great day and ended our night very early in the morning- found this local jewel for our late night munchies.

Jay T.

Yelp
Our waitress gave us phenomenal service. Naylea was terrific. I look forward to returning.

Nancy ..

Yelp
Love this place great food. Family atmosphere. All the staff make it feel like home. I always look forward to seeing Kelly at the register. If Ft. Worth dinners need a mom, she's at Ol' South.

Mandy R.

Yelp
I was a server there.Never late ,always on time, kind, excellent, a trainer, a very hard worker, And got fired.

Cheryl B.

Yelp
I went there for breakfast and had their German pancake. It was delicious nice place nothing fancy and they're open 24/7 which is incredible so that's a big plus plus! I hear this place has been around for a very long time which these days longevity is a good thing in a restaurant. I hope when I'm in Fort Worth again very early in the morning I'll have a chance to try something else on their extensive menu. I have no doubt that it will be delicious too !

James W.

Yelp
First time here and we were impressed. Inside is way bigger than I had anticipated. It stayed busy but no one ever had to wait to be seated, there was plenty of space on both sides of the restaurant. We sat, got our coffee which oddly wasn't bad at all for restaurant coffee. They stayed on top of keeping the cup full as well, it never went all the way to the bottom of the cup. Wife ordered the Belgian Waffles w/combo, the combo adds eggs and bacon or sausage, your choice. The waffles were thick and really good. Can taste the buttermilk in them. I got the German Pancake that it seems is an egg based batter than is made in the oven rather than a grill top. They bring it and fold it up for you with the butter, powdered sugar, and lemon inside, plus whatever else you may have. It was really good. It's sweet but an acidic sweetness. Really hard to explain. Were I to get it again, I ask for less butter and way less lemon. It's sweet enough you don't need syrup. Really nice breakfast place, old setting, looks like it's been at this location for some time. Definitely worth the stop.

Andy R.

Yelp
Our experience at the Ol' Pancake House in Fort Worth was outstanding. Despite a busy morning rush, we were pleasantly surprised to be seated promptly, a testament to their efficient service. The staff was quick and incredibly friendly, adding a warm touch to our visit. Upon recommendation, we decided to try the German pancakes, and we were not disappointed. The dish was a delightful blend of flavors and textures, a perfect balance of sweetness and fluffiness that satisfied us thoroughly. The Ol' Pancake House takes pride in its quality of food and service. From start to finish, our experience at the Ol' Pancake House was exceptional. The swift service, friendly staff, and delicious food made it a memorable morning. We look forward to returning to explore more of their menu.

Patti S.

Yelp
They were shut down in July 2023 and March 2024 for insect infestations. Google Old South Closed and you can read the reports. They didn't learn their lesson from the first time they were shut down and the problems continue.

Stephanie A.

Yelp
Great food and Stacy gave top notch service, she was kind, attentive, friendly and got everything right! Would love to come back and have her help us again!

Phil J.

Yelp
Wife and I had breakfast there last night. It was fantastic. Pancakes were absolutely amazing. Home fries were great. Eggs cooked perfectly. Wife had fried chicken which had the best batter I've ever tasted. Service was exceptional and friendly, ask for Laura. We will be back.
