Old Fashion Pizzeria

What an incredible neighborhood pizza spot. It’s truly humbling to catch the owner passionately serving up pies and great subs. He’s such a nice guy too. Places like Old Fashion are what make New York City special. It’s not just about the food, and the food is great, but there’s a neighborly quality to the rare spots like these. I got the grandma slice. So delicious. I can’t wait to come back.

Having tried A LOT of pizza places throughout the city, I will now be adding Old Fashion Pizzeria to one of my top spots. I decided to stop in and try a plain slice and a pepperoni slice and both slices were awesome. The issue I have with most pepperoni slices is that they end up being very salty. That was not the case here. Both slices were flavorful and well balanced and it makes me wish I lived closer to this neighborhood. If you're in the neighborhood, stop in! It's worth it.

Jimmy - I just walked by and saw the windows all boarded up. I can’t believe you retired without telling me! Thank you for all of the delicious slices over the years, especially the Hawaiians with olives (even if I had to go buy the ham sometimes). You are truly a legend and one of my favorite parts of this city. I hope you have a great retirement my friend.

Went here on a Saturday night for a quick casual pizza dinner. Ordered the penne vodka, lasagna, and a couple of margarita pizza. Perfectly hot, delicious slices! Also service was so kind and personable. Would recommend if in the area!

DO NOT GO HERE. I eat pizza 5 days a week and my go to is usually Joe's pizza for a solid, quick slice. I recently decided to take a visit to Old Fashion Pizzeria and found a metal brush wire in my meatball slice! STAY AWAY! Food safety issue. Plus, this pizza is incredibly expensive for the quality, might as well go to dollar pizza around the corner on 14th st. The pizza is not crisp, theres a huge chewy crust, and two slices (one margarita and one meatball was $12!!!!!)

place is really beautiful (old but clean and well decorated) and Jimmy is amazing. He takes care of his clients. Very good pizza. Very cozy place. During the winter break mainly locals go there so it is not crowded in the evenings (December 2022).

You can sit down at a table with friends, relax, and enjoy the exceptional service. EXAMPLES OF GREAT SERVICE (A) Passed by with my dog late at night once. Asked from the door if they still had slices. Guy said sure, invited me in, warmed up a slice. When I went to pay, he said "Don't worry about it, on the house." Register was probably closed but he wasn't gonna let me go hungry. (B) Another time, asked for a cup of water after I ordered a slice. "We don't have cups of water, grab a bottle." When I tried to pay for the water, he wouldn't let me. "It's cool, take the bottle. We didn't have what you requested." Stellar staff 100%.

A quaint friendly pizzeria with awesome service and delicious slices. I recommend the buffalo chicken slice and the margherita slice. Both are quite delicious.

Came here around 10:30PM on a Saturday because me and my boyfriend were still hungry after our meal. The man at the register, who also was the only person working, was so friendly. Customer service was great! The pizza was amazing: the crust held, there was no flop, and for this late at night, the pizza was fresh and did not taste like it had been sitting, which is very common for late night. 10/10 from me!

Solid neighborhood spot! What we really like here are their rolls - the ones that you can fill with buffalo chicken, sausage & peppers, etc. They really load them up and they're SO good. The owner is the nicest guy ever too! We usually call ahead for takeout and he's always so friendly and helpful - a super gregarious guy that we enjoy chatting with whenever we pick up our food!

The owner is super friendly and helpful. He will make things to order for you. The pizza is great, the slices are a bit thicker than Joe's (I'm not a thin crust fan). The lasagna slice is my favorite.

Tried for the first time tonight. Very good pie with nice crust. We ordered the meatball pie and loved it!

They don't have many reviews here but there's a good amount on Google as well as Slice and the people there knew the owner so I believe they were added recently but they probably been around for at least a little bit. The guy in front is very friendly which almost startled me compared to a lot of other spots. I got a plain slice with mushrooms and the guy showed me the fresh mushroom (button I believe) before cutting it which was a nice touch. Pizza was fresh with a good amount of acidity from the tomatoes and there was a good amount of cheese but not too much. The bottom lacked grease also. I got a drink with it and it came out to around 6.70 or something similar which is pretty reasonable for the area for a good slice with a topping. I'm presuming the slice itself was maybe $3.50 or so plus maybe a buck for a topping. They were playing light rock such as Arctic Monkeys and related which is a nice change also. 4 but a quality 4 for the price.

Jimmy is great. I loved going in there and talking with him and eating fantastic pizza. This place is underrated and is one of the best pizza spots I've ever seen in ny. However, it's a good thing I like Dua Lipa because Dua Lipa's "Love Again" was played on repeat for the entire 30 minutes I was there.

Solid grandma slices here! I opted for the one with pepperoni and it was descent. The only issue is that I wish the pizza came out hotter and the cheese was a bit hard. I will try it out again. Hopefully it will be better next time.

Absolutely a wonderful place. The food was incredible. Like drop-dead incredible. I got 2 plain slices, a chicken-bacon-ranch slice, and some wings, all were extremely good and came out quick/fresh. Jimmy's also a great guy and really made me feel at home, not to mention the place is really quaint and well decorated making a great ambiance. I don't live too close, but I really think I might come here at least once a week from now on.

Hits all marks of a classic New York slice: thin, crispy crust; just the right balance of fresh cheese and fresh made tasty red sauce by the friendly owner ranks it above basic. I'll be back.

Great slice. The margherita was thin crust, great ricotta and perfectly piquant sauce. The owner was Albanian and talkative. My kinda NYer. 10/10

Love this place. Came in on an empty night and tried the buffalo ranch pizza. The worker Jimmy was great and I ended up loving the pizza! Not only did it look good, but it tasted good. He has so much hospitality. Come on in if you are craving pizza! 10/10. It has a cute area with few tables, but the vibe is amazing!

The Buffalo chicken pizza was amazing! The owner, Jimmy, is so awesome and just loves providing people with amazing service. Would highly recommend!

I ordered the lasagna and chicken bacon ranch slices. We shared both. Very tasty a ton of toppings. I liked that it didn't have the corn meal bottom. This had old fashioned flour. The crust was perfect with the slight crunch but did not crumble. The slices were foldable . Very enjoyable. We would definitely go back

Came here late night at 1am and the only available slices looked like they had been sitting there since this place wasn't old fashioned. Sorry but way too high a rating for a place serving old, cold, stale pizza.

Some of the worst pizza I've had in NYC. They used so little cheese it barely covered the slice. These cheese itself tasted disgusting. Like what you get on an old frozen pizza. They also used the wrong toppings. Arrived cold. The 5 star reviews are fake. You can tell just by reading them. They got their friends to leave all the reviews. Should be banned from Yelp.

Let's cut to the slice: Old Fashioned Pizza is some of the best pizza in all of New York City. Don't believe me? That's fine. But if you're curious, definitely pop in for a pie. You will be thrilled you stepped out of your pizza comfort zone to give another place a go. This is a big city, and there's plenty of space for makers and tasters of the best pizza in the world. You feeln' me? At Old Fashioned Pizza, there are no frills, no schticks, and no framed celebrity photos. Just good ol' fashioned (classic, tried and true) ingredients, recipes, and craftsmanship. And 5 Star Service. If I may, I would describe the crust and dough on an Old Fashioned pie to be lean and crispy, but full of flavor, soft chewiness, and a lightly sweet golden hue. A dusting of cornmeal helped it slip along the from the board, into the oven, and into your box, all intact. The sauce, to cheese, to toppings ratio (for example, on a Supreme pie) is evidence of an experienced and precise chef's hands and achieve true pizza equanimity. Ingredients are fantastically fresh and of the highest quality, and as such, flavors and textures merge into one of the most sublime slices you'll ever taste. My pie was cooked to perfection, with the onions, peppers, and mushrooms all maintaining their vivacity: another indication of a detailed, dedicated, consistent craft at work in the kitchen of Old Fashioned Pizza. Sure, try a slice, but if you can, get your hands on a whole pie. It'll bring you the promise of new pizza love. And who could ever have enough of that?

Uncle R has it right. Everything comes together (crust, sauce and toppings) in a way that shows real care and thought was put into elevating this slice above others in the neighbourhood. The crust, while firm, gives way with a satisfying crunch and isn't going to cut the rough of your mouth. The sauce is well balanced between sweet and tart. And the proportions of it all let each facet of a "plain" slice really shine through. Elegant in its simplicity it's to be savoured ... but at these prices it would still fill that post-bar drunken munchies fix.

I don't mind at all walking the 3 avenue blocks over to this place, even though there are 2 or 3 hoity-toity pizza places right across the street from me. This has got to be the best pizza in the NW East Village/South of Union Square area. Such care and artistry. Ask for a veggie pizza and the guy will run through the veggies he's got on hand and ask you if that's okay. Are you kidding?

This place used to be 5 stars but the pizza has changed so much and now taste like frozen pizza.

I'm on a pizza rollll these past few weeks. Found a bunch of hidden gems but unfortunately this was not one of them. I was craving pizza today so I walked into Joes to get my usual but I changed my mind and felt like exploring a bit. Found Old Fashioned Pizza close by and went for it. It was the most bland, greasy, less than average margherita slice I've ever had :( also it was more expensive than a Joes slice... I'm not a fan of their prices not being listed inside either. Just don't come here

Hard to believe the previous reviews are real. I have lived in NYC for more than quarter of a century and I know NYC pizza. This is pure garbage. Seriously tastes like frozen pizza. I didn't know why these guys would open a pizza joint around the block from Joe's Pizza, which is one of NYC's best places. I thought that maybe they thought they would get the overflow when Joe's was full. One night, I wanted to go to Joe's, and the line was so long I decided to try this place. Next time Joe's line is long, I'll remember to just wait on line.

The pizza here is SO GOOD. Native NYer here, so I'm PICKY. It's just a good NY slice - thin (but not too thin), crisp (but not dry like a burnt brick oven cracker). The sauce and cheese are just right. And it's a small business! Family owned! Feel so good supporting and getting some GREAT pizza. Better than everything else in the area (Joe's, sauce, artichoke, dollar slice places - all gross).

Best pizza in town! Thin crunchy base. Great value for money. It is open until very late on weekends.

We live around the corner and got one of their menus from the lobby. Were walking by today and thought OK we'll share a slice to check it out. Looked like a regular joint and didn't expect much except the basics. BOY WAS THAT A GOOD SLICE!! What a surprise! Delicious sauce - something different and tasty and the crust was thin and crisp. The cheese tasted like GOOD cheese. Loved it. The customer service - OLD SCHOOL!! Free drink because we were first timers (thank yoU!!). So nice and welcoming. I think we found our home-pizza place! Looking forward to ordering up a pie!

These guys got five stars reviews from their friends. This place is terrible. The pizza has no taste, frozen box pizza tastes better. I also tried their attempt at eggplant parm hero, what a mistake. For $10 bucks, what I got made Subway sandwiches look like gourmet food. Look at the picture of the pathetic sandwich, four thin pieces of eggplant that tasted like it was soaked in vinegar for weeks, no cheese, no sauce. A picture is worth a thousands words, you be the judge. Don't waste your money or time or risk an upset stomach or hours on the toilet. Go elsewhere.

What a great new addition to this neighborhood! The pizza is great, staff friendly and such a cute feeling inside. Also LOVE that they have a TV with football playing. Great variety of slices - will be our new neighbors spot

Pretty good! A nice neighborhood shop worth trying. I ordered a margherita slice which, for the size, was a little steep at $4. But it was fresh out of the oven and I watched them sprinkle fresh basil on top right in front of me. The crust is thin and chewy, not really very crispy. Wouldn't compare it to Joe's, it's just different. I'll be back!

Great pizza! I live right in the area and I'm so happy this place opened up. The staff is very friendly. My favorite is the Margherita slice which might be comparable to Joes. Definitely worth going to!

Lovely staff, warm atmosphere and delicious people. So happy they have opened on my street. I got garlic knots and a Sicilian slice, both were delicious.

Crispy and SO good. Had the buffalo chicken and I'm going to crave this in my dreams. The crust is a love child of joes and Bleecker. It's not soft but not as crispy as Bleecker. Which makes it a perfect combination of the two. I'm so happy I fell into this place.

Love the look on the inside of the pizzeria the pizza and is awesome the staff is nice and friendly definitely will be back everyone give it a try

This is the best pizza we've tried since coming to the East Village. The food was fabulous and the owner delightful!

Love this place. Great pizza for delivery and it's the only pizza place in the East Village that feels like a true neighborhood joint. The owner is super nice. I like that they sell big 1liter bottles of soda too. You don't have to get a ton of cans.

Truly, this is the East Village/Gramercy new pizzeria. The fresh quality and ingredients that added for each pizza are incredible! The owner and his son are vibrant, down-to-earth, and simply old fashioned-nice. This quaint, pizzeria is worth it!

Disappointed it wasn't open on a Tuesday but if you want dessert you should check out the cookie bar across the street. A good effort though. Similar to The Little Bakery out of Niagara Falls, NY

The best pizza whether you get a buffalo slice, a lasagna slice, or a plain slice! They all have a great and unique taste! Great sauce and crispy crust! Beautiful atmosphere inside! Also the pizza on display are beautifully designed and laid out like no other place!

I live across the street - I have tried my fair share of pizza spots in Manhattan and Brooklyn - this place has a friendly staff and the pizza is very good
