Amazing food, service and atmosphere!!! Hubby fell in love with the Opa's German sausage and I fell in love with the German pancake!! Our food was hot and fresh. Our waitress was helpful, friendly and so sweet!! Steady stream of customers coming in to eat in the restaurant and pick up take out orders, and to get an order of their yummy pastries!!! This place is excellent. 5 stars all the way around!!!

Good food and great service. Little breezy sitting at our table, but overall, a nice atmosphere. Omelet and crepes were nice. Coffee cup stayed full and the bakery items were tempting. Extremely busy! The wait line was non-stop. Overall, a nice experience.

Heads up- this place is busy, so make sure your entire party is present or you will not be seated. The food is excellent. In my opinion, this place has the best German food in the area. I had schnitzel and then a German pancake for dessert (FYI get it with the lemon and powdered sugar). My husband had the sausage plate. My brother had the bratwurst place and my sister in law had the bratwurst sandwich. The German pancake was amazing too!!!!

WOW! The Old German Bakery & Restaurant ROCKS! We had a wonderful breakfast and loved Rebecca who doted on us the entire meal. She is amazing. We had the Schnitzel and an unbelievable German pancake. The pancake was a creation in between a traditional pancake and a crepe. Thin, moist and spongy. I topped it with butter, syrup, powdered sugar, cinnamon and lemon. Yes, lemon! It tasted more like lemon curd, sweet and tangy. Mind blown. I highly recommend the Old German Bakery & Restaurant when you are in Fredericksburg, Texas!

The food was excellent. The service was amazing. Stopped here on a road trip. Did not disappoint. Small town charm. World class destinations. Highly recommend.

I tried a few pastries from the bakery! Freshly made and very good! 🤤 I visited right when they opened. The Old German Bakery and Restaurant was established in 1975 and Lutz Henschel has been the owner since 1998. They serve true German food by using traditional German recipes to make all food from scratch. The decor is Old World Berlin with a friendly family atmosphere. They serve breakfast all day. 🥐 🥮 Authentic German breads and pastries. 🇩🇪 Danke Schon!

Food was awesome, we ordered Omas breakfast and Opas breakfast, both phenomenal. We went on a Saturday, showed up at 9:55 and sat down at 10:35am for reference. There were probably 20-25 parties before us. Service was very quick! Worth the wait. There’s a walk up counter for pastries with a short wait!

Enjoyable casual German restaurant. Very busy during the winter holidays. Hearty and tasty German dishes. The potato salad that comes with many sandwiches is particularly good. Hurried and efficient service. Pay at cashier counter, with 3% extra charge for credit cards. Street parking or scattered free parking lots along the street.

On a rainy Sunday, we stopped in for lunch. There was about a 15 minute wait for a table, but once we were seated, our food was out quickly. I liked my bratwurst plate, but the brats were just a little dry. My husband really enjoyed his Jägerschnitzel, especially with the red cabbage. I ate about half my plate and saved the rest for later and it was NOT good reheated, so I recommend sharing a plate if you have a small appetite. We also got some items from the bakery to take home. Our families absolutely loved the danishes. I didn't really enjoy the meringue, I thought they were a little stale, but everything else was tasty!

We stopped by last Saturday for dine-in breakfast, and were seated after waiting almost an hour - it was busy. Our order took over 20 minutes to get to our table, and no, it was not worth the wait. The biscuit was okay, but the sausage (not really a sausage, more like a patty) was overcooked, as were the scrambled eggs. I have never had eggs as dry as those in my life. The coffee was mediocre, at best. So why three stars? Because we stopped by the following day, this time at their bakery counter, and the pastries we got were to die for. The jalapeño and cheese kolache we really wanted to try was sold out, obviously, so we got the pecan cookie and the poppy seed pastry. Both were spectacular. Had I not had such an abysmal breakfast on Saturday, I would have given this place five stars.

The German Chicken Salad was swimming in mayo. I have never seen so much mayo in any other chicken salad in my life. From my seat I watch the flies land in the uncovered bread on the shelves. Was told they only bake bread once a week so better check the date before you bring home bread that will mold quickly.

Husband enjoyed his Reuben sandwich. Sausages and sauerkraut on the sausage plate were good. The weinerschitzel and potatoes that came with it were incredibly bland, I do not recommend that one.

Stopped by Old German Bakery and Restaurant in Fredericksburg for a late breakfast, and overall, it was a lovely experience. We tried a variety of dishes: pancakes, scrambled eggs, a veggie omelet, and two types of crepes: the apricot (which is one of their popular picks) and the Nutella. Out of everything, the Nutella crepe stood out the most and hard to go wrong with. The apricot crepe, while highly recommended by others, didn't quite hit the mark for me. It just lacked that balance of flavor I was hoping for. The rest of the breakfast staples eggs, omelet, and pancakes were solid and satisfying, nothing mind-blowing but definitely enjoyable. What really makes this place shine is the ambience and location, right on Main Street, with views of the charming boutiques and shops around. The service was warm and attentive too.

Loved it! It's been a few years since we've eaten here. We arrived about 9:15 am on a Friday and there was a line outside. Fortunately, they take names and there are 2 benches to sit on. Our wait was about 15 minutes. Once we were called in, we were seated right away and our drink order was taken and delivered. We were seated in front of the entry door and the fan system above the door was blowing cold air on us. Our server, Lisa was amazing and offered to move us to a table in back, near the restrooms. Except for the restroom traffic, this location was perfect for us. Thank you Lisa! My wife and I each ordered a breakfast plus a German pancake to be brought out later. We had: - Country Benedict - Opa's Sausage Breakfast Both were excellent. I asked for my eggs to be soft scrambled eggs and that's what I got :) We ate about half our meals and packed the rest up for breakfast tomorrow. We were too full for the German pancake, so we asked Lisa to not place the kitchen order. When we paid at the counter, we ordered a sweet bakery treat to go. Thank you Old Herman Bakery and Restaurant and Lisa for a great meal with great service.

My first stop in Fredericksburg was obviously at the old German Bakery. It's a well preserved decades old architecture in the Main Street can't definitely be missed. We came during a long weekend and the wait time was 35 minutes. With all the hype, the wait time was totally acceptable. Once we got the table, we could see the ambiance has been well preserved as well and haven't modernized and loved that part. My order: Nutella banana crepe German pancake Cheese omelette Veggie omelette with biscuit Apricot crepe My favorite was the apricot crepe and it's something that I haven't tried before. Nutella banana crepe is something that could never go wrong. The omelette were well cooked. The veggies sautéed well. Love the amalgamation of the eggs and cheese and veggies. To top it off , the biscuits weren't dry nor hard. German pancake with maple syrup was something new that I hadn't tried before and it was different and way from the regular American pancakes. It had powdered sugar on top of it. Bakery was almost sold out so couldn't try their cookies and pastries.

Amazing!!! My advice is go early!!! Before the lines!!! Tried German Pancakes for the first time, so good! Definitely try it with lemon and powdered sugar I will have to come back and get some baked goods.

I could wrap myself up in a pancake! I have never heard of putting lemon and powdered sugar on a pancake! Best thing ever! Biscuits and gravy could have fed two of us and were beyond delicious! Pastries were just ridiculous! Every bit as good as they look! We brought 4 home!

Great place for breakfast or lunch especially on a Tuesday when the lines are shorter and they have reduced priced bread and pastries. I usually get the ham sandwich but everything is good and the portions are big. Reasonable prices. Servers are friendly.

This is a great choice for breakfast and bakery items. The location was t fair from the main shops and our wait time was minimal. People really get in and out of here promptly. The service was polite and friendly. We look forward to coming back!

Very busy and popular restaurant with a large line. They serve some standard breakfast items like eggs, bacon, biscuits and more. They have a few German inspired dishes like pancakes and sausages. I tried the Oma's plate with eggs sausage and a pancake. It was very good. They have some breads and pastries for sale too that you can order at a separate counter. It's not an authentic German restaurant. If you're expecting that, it's really an American restaurant. I'm glad we went it was a good choice.l and a cozy spot.

The bakery is located in a charming old building with a cozy atmosphere and friendly service. Be sure to arrive early, as there's often a line to get in. They offer a variety of baked goods at the counter, which are worth trying. Unfortunately, the breakfast items we've tried have been disappointing--especially the eggs Benedict. The traditional version had a bland hollandaise that is very thin and not at all tart, while their alternate country version with gravy and sausage was particularly unappetizing. The sausage had an odd appearance and flavor, the gravy appeared to be from a can, all reminiscent of canned pet food, making it inedible. I often have eggs Benedict, but this is the worst, so bad we returned the plate. That said, their take on a German pancake is decent though nothing at all special, in fact amateur using a banana with Nutella. Just fyi, their German pancake and crepe are the same batter, go figure! Overall, there are much better breakfast options available in the area. Not sure how they stay in business other than one stop tourist. They get one star for the ambiance and location.

Brunch food was good, I did like the german pancake so much. They have good selection of pasties as well, I did like the peach cream danish and cinnamon rolls. If you'd like to try the sausage roll, definitely ask to heat it up, it was hard and cold when we got one.

Had a 30-minute wait, but worth it. The service was excellent. Our server was fun, attentive, and gave great recommendations. We had the pretzel, turkey sandwich, and Reuben all were delicious and came in huge portions. (Had to take 1/2 home) The interior is super cute, adding to the cozy, authentic vibe. Plus, there's a bakery up front with plenty of treats to take home. I loved the sweat tea

We were in Fredericksburg on a Tuesday and this bakery closes on Wednesdays. I asked my family member to stop to grab the following items: 5/5: jalapeño and cheese Kolache (pig in the blanket)---- omg this kolache is LiFE CHANGING! I can not emphasize enough. I have tried so many kolaches in my life. If I go to a place and they have kolaches... you better believe I will order it! So if there is any such title of a Kolache Connoisseur hahaha that's me! What makes this kolache is the sausage! The sausage is thicker and it's ooowey gooowey cheese jalapeño inside is what keeps you addicted and biting for more! The bread is more bready but helps balance the sausage! Two was bought and I seriously have so much regrets not getting more! I will be dreaming about these kolaches and it's delicious out of this world sausage! When you eat it... you will know what I mean! You have to experience to understand! It has a kick of jalapeño but it's not spicy. Perfect balance of heat! 1/5 cinnamon roll: I felt like our cinnamon roll was old or something. It was bready and the bread was dry. The ratio of cinnamon and sugar vs the bread was not even. If you prefer a less sweet and more bready cinnamon roll... then this one is for you 4/5: cream cheese pastry and strawberry filled pastry: was good! Not the best one I've ever had but they are tasty! Service is great. It was a take out order. Do I recommend this place? Yes yes yes! Come try their kolache! So good and I can't wait to come back to get a dozen of the Kolaches Must visit bakery when you are in Fredericksburg!

I went for the wienerschnitzel and ended up taking the chicken fried steak. At the end of the day aren't they both about the same? Their chicken fried steak was quite tender and tasty. The wife had a turkey sandwich with potato salad. Coming from a German family she was expecting good things in the potato salad and felt it was a little bit disappointing and bland. We sampled a couple of selections from their bakery on the way out and while they were okay, they didn't knock our socks off either. For example, the chocolate chip cookie was just a plain cookie with some small chocolate chips on top. It's a cute place with good service but it doesn't live up to the name of being German as we were hoping. Having lived in Munich for a year, maybe our expectations a little bit different than others. On the other hand, maybe just a different part of Germany than we are familiar with.

This place was okay. It was very crowded, and the service seemed to be very stressed and short staffed. They were very particular about how quickly people were seated if they were on the list, but didn't communicate where people were on the list at all. It made it confusing to know when to have our large group all together. The food was good, but I've had better German pancakes and the eggs and bacon were just okay. Overall, it was good for what it was, but probably wouldn't go out of my way to go back here.

Every time I come to Fredericksburg I try to stop by the old German bakery but it is always sooooo busy but finally got there and was able to have a very very tasty breakfast! The food came out quick and hot! The classic Benedict was everything I hoped and more! To make the experience even better our waitress Rebecca was the nicest lady!!!!! We will come back next time we are in town!

A group of 6, 3 couples, met up at this Fredericksburg establishment to have a reunion of sorts. Childhood friends who had not seen each other for decades, shared a meal of Jagerschnitzel and memories! Back a few years ago, this German bakery was a place to eat breakfast because of their German strudel and other goodies. I must confess that its been many years ago when I visited this eatery. It was surprising to see the lack of pastries for sale there. However, it was after lunch and it was close to closing time. As for the food, it was average at best. The conversation was the main entree really! We were a big party so we sat on the bakery side, away from the main dining area. It was perfect! The service was efficient and the main dining area was full of people when we came in but it was almost 3 pm when we left and there were a few diners like us. We literally closed the place down. Overall, this place was great for our reunion and reminiscing about the past. The food was ok. The pastries, the jury is out. I have to go back in the early morning to find out but I won't do that anymore!

Stopped by Old German Bakery on a Sunday for a late breakfast and it was definitely a popular spot. The place was packed, and we were quoted a 45-minute wait for our party of eight. They ended up splitting us into two separate tables, which was totally fine by us, though the hostess came off a bit snappy and impatient--not the warmest welcome. That said, once we were seated, everything went pretty smoothly and our waitress was very kind. We made it just in time to order before breakfast service ended at 11am. I split the Oma's Pancake Breakfast and a side of hash browns with a friend, and it was more than enough food for the two of us. The German pancakes were delicious, eggs and bacon were cooked just right, and the hash browns had a great crisp. The restaurant was busy and a little chaotic, but it had that cozy, old-school diner feel that made it feel homey. Despite the rough start, it ended up being a satisfying and hearty breakfast. Would definitely come back, maybe just with a little more patience for the crowd.

Maybe the best breakfast I've had in a long time. Opa's SAUSAGE BREAKFAST - AN OPA'S SMOKED SAUSAGE LINK, SERVED WITH TWO EGGS, HASH BROWNS, AND A BUTTERMILK BISCUIT. Link was incredible, hash browns crispy, eggs were just fried but omg. Gravy was so good I ate the remainder with a spoon like it was soup. Pastries looked crazy but I was stuffed. Definitely try it.

If you travel near Fredricksburg , make this restaurant your stop!!! The sauerbraten is one of the best I've Eatin , and I've lived in Germany . It's all good, and then there is the bakery side , OMG !! Bring your own Beer if you are inclined, as they don't serve beer there.

My wife, a veggie loving, pork and beef avoiding epicurean, glanced at the menu and with almost prophetic warning, muttered, " I'm in a German-centric restaurant. I should order something German." Alas, if only she had listened. After I ordered the Country Benedict, which consisted of slabs of German Breakfast Sausage on buttermilk biscuits, topped with poached eggs and cream gravy, served next to hashbrowns, my wife ordered a veggies omelet. Service was quick, friendly, and competent and a few minutes later I was almost in Southern heaven. If only there had been some bacon on that plate. My wife, on the other hand, stared down at a slab of extremely overcooked omelet, covered with enough cheddar cheese to have participated in the previous day's Wine & Cheese Festival, and took a bite. A few minutes later, as she watched me scarfing down my fatty goodness. she conceeded one point. "The biscuits are good," she said politely. I'd struck out the previous morning too on breakfast restaurant suggestions, and as I paid our bill I spotted... an eclair. But not ANY eclair! Not some sissy French pastry delicately sitting on a doily, oozing lightly sweetened whipping cream. Oh no, mein herr! This was a GERMAN eclair! A blitz! Covered in dark chocolate, stuffed with Bavarian Cream and the size of Volkswagen! My mouth watered. My blood sugar rose just from looking at it! I turned away and even LEFT, driving all the way back to the hotel. But no! I couldn't resist! I drove back, purchased the monstrosity and despite a full stomach, took it with me as my wife and I began the day's adventures until it was time. Time to blow my upcoming A1C test to smithereens. I had to use a knife because a jackhammer wasn't available. I broke off a piece, nervously glancing at my wife who sighed at the inevitable. Then... Bavarian cream exploded in my mouth. Chewy biscuit. Dark hard chocolate and... "Too sweet," I managed to gasp. I winced. " Whoa " I said, feeling both betrayed and relieved. "Well?" My wife asked. I shook my head. "I'm not used to that level of sweetness," I admitted. "The biscuit is too thick and chewy, then you get the smash of Bavarian cream and the hit of dark chocolate. I feel..." My wife's look of concern was immediate. "Insulin shock? Hyperglycemia?" I shook my head. "Like I've been blitzed." I wrapped up the now slightly less than two pound confectionery. "You know, maybe the Americans do this better. Boston cream, chocolate frosting, nice donut..." "Eww, a Long John?" My wife demanded. I shrugged. It's not for everyone. But it is for me. I'm the Gourmet Goob.

Really hearty breakfast spot. Everyone at our table had breakfast tacos with side of hash browns, German styled fried potatoes, and a really good smoked sausage link. Attentive service so I would recommend while in town.

A crazy busy little restaurant right on the main drag in downtown Fredericksburg. On a Saturday morning at around 11:30 we waited about 30 minutes for a table. Five of us sat around a very small table. The waitress greeted us promptly and brought us our waters and Diet Coke's. We ordered a pretzel which was piping hot and very delicious. It came with spicy mustard and cheese sauce. We all ordered and waited for our house salad to arrive. The house salad was the size of Rhode Island! Our food arrived, and we all dug in. On a scale of one to five I rate the food about a three. Service was friendly and good. Overall, the food at the Alpine Haus in New Braunfels was superior. Good German food in Central Texas is hard to find.

Anytime my hubby and I explore a new place/ town, the first thing we look for is where to eat! Since Fritztown is a German town, we decided we should try at least one local/ German restaurant. This place was super busy, crowded and definitely worth the wait. Staff is hustlin and bustlin and you write your own name on a list at the hostess booth when you walk in. You patiently wait outside because there's very little room inside. There is however, a couple of benches right outside to sit and wait. My husband and I usually share our entire order/meal and we did that here. We ordered (the best) fried green tomatoes, perfectly breaded and so flavorful. They come with a side of homemade ranch as well. I ordered a croissant egg and cheese sandwich with home style fries. My hubby ordered a cheese omelette with spinach, mushroom and onion. Both were absolutely delicious! My favorite/highlight without a doubt was the fried green tomatoes! Oh and last but not least, we also shared a German pancake which is essentially a "crepe" flat (pancake) but packed with flavor! I told my hubby it tasted like a churro to me! Comes with a side of powder sugar and I drizzled some maple syrup! Yum! So delicious! It is a restaurant and bakery so they have a great selection of baked goods as well. Sweet and regular pretzels, danishes and more! Thankful for the great service despite how hectic and busy it was. It's understandable why the wait can be long but it's worth it when the food and service is great and prompt! Definitely recommend!

Came here for the weekend and wanted to try this place out. There was about a 30 minute wait but it wasn't too bad. The food was good. I got the schnitzel breakfast. The potatoes were bomb. It did lack seasoning but I think that's a German thing. My husband got an omelette and enjoyed it. They have homemade salsa as well. I got a German pancake since I've never had one. It reminded me of a crepe. Their bakery items looked fantastic !

If this is your first time like us, you want o go in and sign in your name and the number of people in your party to get started. The wait can take a bit, but the service for ordering and food can be quick. We ordered the meat loaf, country fried steak, bratwurst sandwich, and a Flatbread appetizer. The sides of the food like the red cabbage and the saurkraut complemented well with the main dish. The ambiance can get a bit crowded and loud, but overall it was a great experience.

Few things to know about the Old German Bakery & Restaurant: 1. The wait is long. You see all those people standing around outside? That's the waiting list. Trust me, it's worth the wait. 2. The wait may be long, but they do a really great job getting everyone seated ASAP. 3. Wait outside! The lady calling names is super fair. She will call your name a few times before moving on but you need to be there to hear your name being called. 4. Everything we ordered was good but I highly recommend the German Pancakes and the flammkuchen! 5. Service is excellent. Our server was super nice and I loved her attitude. They have really awesome staff here. You can tell they enjoy their jobs. 6. If you just wanna get some stuff from the bakery, there's a separate line. Just walk in and you can get helped much quicker than if you're waiting to be seated.

Totally worth it! I grabbed some snacks before heading out for my stroll. Even though the line was super long, these pretzels hit the spot. They were the perfect pick-me-up for the walk. Glad I decided to wait it out.

We were told about 25 min wait when we arrived & got on the list and it was much much longer. However, the service & food was exceptional. Food came out very fast. Everything was very very good. Lots of fresh pastries being restocked. Many customers were staying for long periods of time instead of eating and leaving lol which made for the unexpected longer wait times. We had a wonderful 10 year anniversary breakfast with them. Thanks for treating us. Can't wait to come back again. It was worth the wait. Also, clean bathrooms. Waitress, staff that seated us and mgmt all very professional & service oriented.

The breakfast was very good, long wait but worth it. The German pancake with the lemon and powdered sugar is amazing! Highly recommend and the country fried steak is one of the best I've tried. Taste homemade and full of flavor. The service staff was wonderful and even though they were swarmed our waitress made sure to make us feel welcome and comfortable. A wonderful southern hospitality

Sunday late morning/early afternoon Let me just start with this: the service was good. Everyone working there is kind and helpful. After driving past this spot for a year and always seeing folks waiting outside we finally stopped in. We waited the standard 30+ minutes for a table which is expected. The floors were covered in leaves. Looked like no one swept them since yesterday possibly and no one is planning on doing so while they are open. The decor was honestly depressing. It could be more inviting. While watching everyone busily run around we noticed that they could optimize the layout a bit. Where they keep the menus almost in the back should be closer to the front or at least the host stand. Alright- the food... I was deciding between the breakfast croissant and something else. Our waitress said the croissant is better so I went with that. It was ok, the croissant was very large and they make it in house, regular scrambled eggs, cheese that I'm pretty sure was craft singles, and bacon. It also came with breakfast potatoes. It left a lot to be desired. My mom got the biscuits and gravy and it was swimming and gravy. You could not even discontinuous a biscuit. My husband had the schnitzel with an egg on top which was more expensive than the one from Altdorf down the street and lower quality. The coffee was good. We also had the German pancakes and that was likely our favorite part of the meal. I don't think I'll eat here again... there are better options (though not many) around town.

We stopped by early Friday morning for breakfast. Our waitress was super nice. However, I had one of the omelets and it did not really have any flavor. I added salt, pepper, and hot sauce and that helped. The hashbrowns were crispy which was good. We also tried the sausage and gravy. It was okay. The danish that we ordered when we were paying was really the star of the show. We'd come back for that.

Food is outstanding. I love my german pancake with bacon and lot! Giant pretzel is also very nice. The sausages platter is good for me but not that great though my husband loves it. The schnitzel is just so so. Service - i would rate 1 for the system is not efficient enough to handle large crowd long que outside with HOT temperature. The thing I hate is we need to wait outside with hot weather drop me a lot and need to stand as not enough chair. I wish they can improve in the way they serve people like maybe accept order for people that are closer to get seated so the order will come out right away without us waiting too long for the waiter to come for us to order and wait for the food. It was such a non productive time/wasted time to reduce the queuing time. They are not efficient enough to run a resto with a long que basically. If i may suggest to handle que aside from taking order earlier, they may start to do the phone text message system so people can still walk around while waiting in the queue.

The quality of the food was out of this world. I can't stop thinking about the best pretzel I've ever had in my entire life. If you're there, definitely try the raspberry crepes and the Wiener schnitzel--both were absolutely delicious. The service was spectacular, and the location couldn't have been better. As a tourist, I loved how easy it was to visit nearby galleries and shops after our meal. Apologies for the lack of photos--we were so hungry and couldn't wait to dig in! Highly recommend this gem.

My husband and I have been coming here for years now. The food is always amazing and the service is great. We ordered the hackbraten and it was delicious! Also, our server Yadira was so sweet and helpful, she made our most recent experience wonderful. Definitely recommend this wonderful place!

Great service. Food was brought out quickly and prepared well. Great throw back feel, place was clean and plenty of eager customers willing to wait to get their seat. It was New Year's Eve and they close at 2pm on Tuesday's. I arrived at 1pm and they were willing to sit me and serve well past closing time. I was super appreciative of that. Because it was my only day in town and I want to have the taste of my German culture. Thank you!

Sorry, it is not very good German food. The place was packed with a waiting list to get in (on a Friday, mid-day). Service was excellent. The weinersnitchel was very dry and the coating on the meat wasn't great. The side dish of oven potatoes were very good but two of us had the snitchel and where disappointed with the meal.

Quick service - huge, quality portions! Hot coffee! Bakery goods are awesome! Plan to buy some to take to go!

Cute and affordable brunch restaurant in Fredericksburg! We came here on a Sunday afternoon, and there was no wait even for our party of 12. Their bakery has a selection of fresh pastries. I had the German pancake, which was $5.50, and I added another one for an additional $2.50. It came with maple syrup, powdered sugar, and lemons. These pancakes were filling, and I couldn't finish both. They were very good. I also tried my friend's nutella crepe, and it was delicious as well. The service was good.

Ooooooh my goodnesss! My 80-yr-old mom and I had breakfast at another restaurant but stopped by here to get a couple pastries to take back to the hotel. The restaurant was completely full and everyone was so happy and having a good time. The german pastries looked amazing; it was hard to choose just two! We got a sour cream - something and then a bavarian cream - something. Both were outstanding, a large portion and also affordable. They were both delicious! Highly recommend.

A popular spot on Main Street, Old German Bakery is the place to devour some great German inspired dishes and grab some pastries to go. Breakfast is the best time to go, but go early or brace yourself for a long wait. There's not a ton of seating in the dining room unfortunately. The bakery section of this eatery offers a second option for a quick grab and go. The klobasniky comes in two forms--with and without jalapeño. The apple strudel is huge with a strong cinnamon taste. The danishes and turnovers also looked delightful! Most of these are sold out by mid afternoon, so come extra early. I was able to make it here for a late lunch, which offers a nice brunch menu with some breakfast items as well. The hour wait was worth it. I chose the sausage plate with German smashed potatoes. Yummy! The warm sauerkraut and sharp German mustard accompanied the sausages beautifully, and the potatoes were scrumptious as well. My dining partner's schnitzel was disappointing and lacked flavor and a crispy texture. The German lentil soup was just okay. It was very simple and homey tasting. I'll be back one day to try that German pancake, which is one of their specialty items.

Out of towner here ! First time to Fredericksburgs and after reading reviews and have had many people throughout our stay recommend this place we had to stop by. We came here on a Tuesday at 10:10am hoping to get seated in time for their breakfast. Upon arriving we were prompted to wait 45 minutes... not bad considering the line/ popularity of this place. While waiting we decided to stop inside to get some of their pastries. Everything looked great ! We got a bunch of stuff and will be trying them soon. Luckily while picking out our baked goods a FRESH batch of hot salted pretzels. This was hands down the greatest pretzel I've ever had! Eventually it was our turn to sit ... we were seated right next to the bathroom. I mean chair right by the door. now I get it this place is popular so I bet they are trying to make as much space as possible . but No one wants to sit next to the bathroom... we would've tried to get another seating arrangement but because we had waited to long we wanted to go ahead and eat. Here's what we ordered ! - biscuits and gravy (gravy on the side) - German pancake - omelette - bacon and potatoes The biscuits and gravy was awesome! Buttery bacon accompanied by flavorful gravy. Bacon tasted a little funny.. but potatoes were good! Omelette was huge and packed with veggies and meat. But was just your average omelette German pancake was interesting. Best way to describe it would be a thick crepe .. Overall this place is okay/good. Ideally I would give them 3.5 stars . Service was good , food was good/ okay... I would stop by for the ambiance / checking out the baked goods. WOULD HIGHLY REC A FRESH SALTED PRETZEL!!
