Had a fun time watching Minor Fiasco play!!! Sound was great! Really like the bar atmosphere and the feel of the place. You could feel the nostalgia. Loved all the PBR stuff!!! Would have been 5 stars but needs a small late night menu. Christian was a cool bartender too!

Was walking around and stumbled in for lunch, best hamburger I have had in a long time! Great service and great old school atmosphere, give them a try you won’t be disappointed!

It's an older historic building, with an long narrow layout. It was a good place to get a beer and watch a show!

Went to a punk rock show here. It was super Fun! LandShark Go! #Fang #BonelessOnes

Really nice staff, taps weren't hooked up but decent selection of beers in cans. Enjoyed the bands playing.

The security guard Ian was super nice and made sure that people weren’t bothering us and checking in on us and others too. My girls and I haven’t had this courtesy at other clubs.

This is it! Trust me, Old Ironsides ranks with the best old-timey -- family run since 1934 -- establishments in America. A cozy dining room, a historic bar area, complete with snazzy red banquettes, great exterior touches (that sign!), and really excellent food for the money. Efficient, friendly staff too. I had a lamb sandwich, today's special, at it was primo. I love this place. Just GO! Then head about 50 yards to Beers Books -- it could be the best in Sacc'a'menna....

A great venue for Metal music in downtown Sacramento. Come check it out and support live music!

Yelp
Came here for a Brat night thing. Had a smaller crowd but it was so fun to be here with a few friends. We got there around 9? Left around 11ish for another spot. Drinks were decently priced.

Yelp
I had the honor of seeing Catbamboo perform here last night, and wow! This place has cheap drinks and plenty of seating if you're not bandside watching epic musicians play. Fun fact: This was one of the first bars to get a liquor license in Sacramento after prohibition! I'm lucky enough to know the drummer, so I had an elite experience, but the service from the door to the bar was exceptional. Convenient, well-lit parking is within walking distance, and it's cheap. The restrooms are awkwardly near the stage, so don't be shy if you gotta go! Just head for the exit sign, and you'll be right as rain in no time. It's California, so if you're a smoker be prepared to leave your drink with the bouncer before heading outside. It's annoying, but safe.

Yelp
Complete zero. It's Saturday and it says they are open, two hours ago. Not that hard to update your hours. They have had plenty of time. I wonder if they can tie their own shoes?

Yelp
Who doesn't enjoy a good dive bar with live music? Old Ironsides offers the divey ambiance with tons of live music from a variety of genres, which makes it an excellent spot to spend an evening whether you're looking to have a few drinks, listen to some tunes, or both! I visited for the first time a few weekends ago to see a friend's band play. I was stoked to see old friends, which made the experience immediately better, but the cover wasn't bad and I was happy to know that meant the bands were getting paid. The folks at the door were nice and paying was a breeze. They accepted card for the door cover - maybe a first for me! Definitely a welcome way to accept cover, because who carries cash anymore? Drinks were fairly standard, and what you'd expect for a dive bar. That said, while the bar was crowded and there was only one bartender, service seemed to move pretty quickly throughout the night. As for the live music, the stage area was also crowded, but there really wasn't a bad spot in the house. Space is limited so I'd recommend getting there early! But the bands sounded great! Looks like they have food here during the day, too! I can't comment on that, but if I'm in the neighborhood and they happen to have some music going on during the day, I'll stop by and report back!

Yelp
It pains me to leave a poor review for Old I but after tonight's experience I have no choice. I've been here many, many times throughout the years but tonight was something else. I've never had any issues here, but tonight the door person provided my friend and I with the worst customer service ever. We were denied entry in a very transphobic manner, even though we were on the guest list. He refused to acknowledge my chosen name even after I showed him proof it was me. I've never felt so discriminated against in my life. I didn't catch his name; it was the black dude with salmon shorts. Nobody should ever have to experience this type of treatment. It was beyond humiliating. I expected so much better from Old I. This behavior was absolutely unacceptable.

Yelp
Skateboarding and Punk Rock...Doesn't get any better than that! Had an Awesome night. I've been here for a few shows and always have a great night. Keep the old school punk shows coming to Sac Town!

Yelp
Go there often for the goth events, and it's always a good time. They have pretty cheap drinks, which are usually pretty strong. Nice bartenders, great djs. A little on the small side in terms of bathrooms but other than that a pretty great place to dance.

Yelp
Our boss bought us lunch today and wow it was so yummy.....I had the mushroom sandwich with portabella mushroom omg it was so delicious I hear it's under new ownership but let me tell you it isn't skipping a beat..:.. go enjoy

Yelp
I've been to Old I to see local bands play and have always wanted to try the food. So, today, I finally made my way over to pick up some lunch after seeing a Facebook post about their Mediterranean Lamb Burger. I must say it was delicious: a housemade Greek-seasoned patty with Feta cheese, spinach, tomatoes, and red onions on grilled sourdough plus a side salad. I let Sam, the manager, know how much I enjoyed the lunch and to let his cook know he did a great job. I love that this family-run business has withstood the test of time and am glad to support them during this shelter-in-place time.

Yelp
I've always loved this lil dive bar. It's got some old charm to it. They have the best bar food served late at night. Great drunk munchies like fries and grilled cheeses. Nothing fancy. They have the usual dive bar drinks, some well drinks and beers. They do bands some nights. Not sure if there is a cover when it happens, but I can't imagine it's too much. If there isn't a band, there's usually some great music to be played on the jukebox.

Yelp
Met my boyfriend and a friend here for some drinks after work on a Friday and it was a cool little bar. Service was quick and friendly and my gin and tonic was poured slightly heavy, but not too strong which I like (too much gin and I'd hate it) Crowd was a little louder than expected since it was only like 6:30pm when I got there, but everyone in the place seemed friendly enough. I really liked the atmosphere here and I think we'll be back again soon.

Toothless W.

Yelp
I used to come here a lot before the new ownership. Back then the drinks were good and the bartenders were great! But unfortunately now it seems as though it has gone downhill. I ordered rum and coke, which seemed to have no rum in it! Ordered about 5 of them through the night and had absolutely no buzz, which is unusual because I don't drink often. The bar had no barstools to sit on so we were standing and waiting to be helped while other people would walk up and get help right away. I don't know why you would have no barstools at a bar?! There was an event happening at the time, maybe that's why there weren't any barstools to sit on at the bar? Anyways, it's sad to see such a great place go downhill.

Hannah K.

Yelp
I went for one of their goth night events and Spencer made the best midori sour ive ever had!! He was also super sweet and understanding when i asked him if he could remake a drink for me because the one i got from another bartender just wasnt as good as he made it. This place overall is decently priced drink wise and the venue is nice as far as im concerned

Natalie C.

Yelp
I've gone to this bar for years, since the new ownership, I question their integrity. Watch out for the bartenders they will over charge and will steal from their customers. This happened twice in one night, second time we called them out, they choose not to make it right nor has their manager. They have cameras to watch their customers but not their employees, shows what they care about.

Yelp
The vegan bulgogi eggrolls were off the hook . I also loved the bacon cream cheese eggrolls. The sweet chili sauce was amazing. That they came with. Not sure if it was their regular menu but they need more of that stuff serving there. This place is right by my house. Now a new spot for quick bite with a beer after work. Great work. I found out that this menu was for an event of a local chef. His event was called Sacramento's EatsBeats.

Yelp
If you are a Sacramentan then there are a few places you MUST have eaten at: Zelda's Pizza, Jamie's Cafe, Cornerstone, and definitely Old Ironsides. In a 100+ year old historical building, this place does it all. Great breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, really fun shows on the weekend, a nice quiet bar for a beer after work with friends. Everyone is super friendly here. The menu has fun stuff like lamb burgers and beef stroganoff. The shows are cheap and super high-energy. Great Sacramento institutuion.

Yelp
It lives up to its lure... Everyone knows about Old I. We just do. It's a Sacramento historical landmark for food and booze. I swear I've been there before, but I honestly cannot recall when this could have occurred. I was 'pity invited' by the Parentals and Krystle R. to join them for lunch. I'll take any invite, pity or not. Since I had a meeting and would be showing up late, I was asked to look online and let them know what I wanted to order. After a quick glance at the menu, I decided to go with the Old I Cheese Steak. It was an amazing decision! The bleu cheese sauce and the brioche bun were what made the sandwich AMAZING! The thinly sliced tri-tip was really good too, cooked well, but lacked in quantity. Next time I'm there I'll order double the meat order, if allowed. Seriously, this sandwich was a game changer for me, I'll be back to order this. I devoured this sandwich faster than anyone ate their meal at lunch. The flavors of this sando are so good! Oh, their fries are good too. And they know how to execute extra crispy or well done fries. A side of ranch was exactly in order! I snagged a bite of my Mom's Meatloaf Sando, which was also very flavorful. It wasn't your traditional meatloaf flavor, it seemed to have tons of different (than normal) seasonings. I really enjoyed the flavor and the pesto mayo was a good choice by the kitchen. Even though the flavor was not what I was expecting, it was really good. I didn't know you could order a half sando, which is what Poppa Bear did. I didn't snag a bite of his lunch or Krystle R.'s, but everyone enjoyed their lunch and company. There are no frills about this place. Its kinda dank and dusty, but in a cool way. Not gross or smelly, just old school in nature. The seating is plenty, especially for the large lunch crowd that shows up. You are served beverages in those old school, large red Coke Cola cups. The server was sweet and always checked in on us during our meal. You can't beat the good 'ol foodie landmarks in your City!

Yelp
Old Ironsides is swiftly becoming a favorite hang out spot, mostly I must confess, because of Meatless Mondays every month. You really can't beat local folks preparing vegan friendly deliciousness that has included lasagna, seasonal squash bisque, and tasty salads. Additionally, this last time they were doling out fresh baked bread from a local bakery that included a gluten free option. On top of all this, there are also fun botanical cocktails called "shrubs" that are available. So far I've enjoyed the rhubarb and the watermelon, virgin or with a favorite spirit mixed in. Did I mention the drinks are $5 and the dinner plate is also $5? This is not where the fun ends, though, far from it. There are so many great things about this place and where it's situated on the grid. This is a quiet, unassuming spot in a nicer neighborhood with all the parking you could ask for. Street parking and a lot across the street. I like the décor and dim lighting, which both create a very laid back European effect. I like the large wrap around bar space, the tables, the cute little half moon booths, and the ample seating/dining area in the back room. The juke box is a nice touch. Great venue, great people, laidback friendly vibe about the patrons and the staff, awesome community involvement and yummy cheap drinks. C'mon down!

Yelp
Talk about an unassuming, delicious restaurant! I was sort of surprised to see how it is that old Ironsides has been one of our favorite little dive bar go to in the heart of Midtown for a while now. They've always looked quite busy at lunchtime, finally decided to try their food. Happily surprised! The owner is always very nice and friendly now that he recognizes our faces, he suggested a California burger. We were not let down. Thick slices of bacon, a good amount of avocado, delicious hamburger patty on a soft brioche bun, and Homemade french fries. They actually tasted like a thicker and better version of in and out french fries. Their burger came with a pesto spread on the side, the whole meal was very good! Looking forward to coming back to try something different for lunch.

Yelp
I have been to Old Ironsides a few times and I have always had a blast there as a fun bar to visit at night. However, after my last interaction, I will never return. Me and my friend, who is from Arizona and relocated to the area recently, decided to end our night at old Ironsides to have fun and dance to some of the good music they were hosting that night for the Daft Punk vs. LCD soundsystem event. We were told to obtain cash from the ATM while the bouncers held our IDs, seems fair and was totally appropriate. However, after paying the ATM fee and attempting to give the bouncers our cash, they explained that they have to "examine" my friend's ID further since they've never seen an ID with an expiration date dated for so far in the future. Although I have a CA ID, both me and my friend used to live in AZ and ALL of the IDs in that state do not expire for quite some time due to the state laws. If the situation was handled respectfully, we would've understood since expiration dates on IDs from that state can make them look wonk, however it was not. As my friend was explaining that AZ IDs have a much further out expiration date than CA IDs, the bouncer stated, "I'm going to make this simple for you, get the F**k out". If law enforcement was an option to have been called to validate the ID, we would've been more than willing to wait. However, we were thrown out AFTER paying the ATM fees simply because security doesn't have the ability to validate an out of state ID. If security cannot properly validate an out of state ID, I question their ability to regulate what type of people come in and out of that establishment to create a safe environment.

Yelp
Good food and drinks ! Lipstick Friday's are great nights for 80's music. They also host open mic nights on Tuesdays or Wednesday. Great place for a good gathering and a nice small dance floor. Lunch is serves daily

Yelp
This is my second visit to Old Ironsides, but I can't seem to remember the first time I came here! Shows how memorable this place was. This historical bar and grill is pretty standard and fits the dive bar criteria. Somewhat dark, somewhat gloomy with no interesting décor to speak of with a few TV's at the bar that features your only entertainment. I read that it was established in the early 1930's. They have a back room area that is used as a night club where live music, dancing and Karaoke happen on certain nights. That's how my boyfriend knew about bringing me here on a Thursday night. His brother-in-law "Jaco Moe" is part of an event called "Music Night". Anyone who loves to play music or just listen and enjoy can participate: http://www.yelp.com/events/sacramento-music-night-jam-old-ironsides When we arrived, multiple band members were playing and singing along to some old classics. People (young and old), slowly trickled in with their instruments from guitars, drums, bass, fiddle, organ, accordion, even a saw! Now that's entertainment! One of the women players brought some extra "easy to use" music makers for the layman to try out! There were shakers, tambourines, cymbals, wooden sticks, and flutes. I used the shakers and after a few drinks, was pretty confident with my musical skills! Ha! Ha! Well, I thought I was! At least no one seemed to give me any disapproving looks! We had 3 1/2 hours of music making fun. The bartenders were up beat and friendly and the drinks made our night even more enjoyable! I found "Music Night" to be an original form of entertainment and a great way for musicians to come by and show off their talents. I don't know when the next get together will be, but I look forward to going to the next one! In the meantime, I'll be practicing at home with my maracas, and maybe even get discovered.......

Yelp
Less Draw Since They Pulled The Plug On Fascination SITREP I'll be short & to the point: since Old Ironsides has terminated the successful Retro-80s New Wave DJ-Dance Event "FASCINATION", there will be far less incentive for me to stay in Sacramento on a Saturday night, and I'll be heading to the Bay Area for my New Wave fix instead. THE SET-UP Old Ironsides is still pretty good at what it IS, if you like dive bars with stiff drinks and some of the nicest bartenders in Sacramento - my hats off to them in particular. However with the monthly dance-event "Fascination" being terminated (typically had a history of being on 2nd Saturdays, and then Old I moved it to 3rd Saturdays), I doubt I will be coming here with any frequency. At least it was once a month, and some Monday-night chef challenge nights thrown in as well. But at this point, we'll see.. HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF It's always a pity when a venue kills a "Golden Goose", thinking they are going to find something better & more lucrative. That happened to The Library when it ended it's run of Flashback 80s - and now The Library is no more. The same with the Townhouse, which went bellyup and is under new owners now as Starlite. So many similar stories around town.... THE LOWDOWN I wish Old I the very best, but I won't be going through it's doors as much any more....
google avatar

Yelp
It's horrible between 4:00 and 6:00 so go somewhere else and stop sitting on my bar stool. It's the only bar in Sacramento that matters. Lunch is excellent, the people are great.... live music is loud...

Yelp
Accidentally left my tip and total lines blank and signed thinking things would be okay and someone added in a 10 dollar tip. When I brought it to the attention of the bar manager I was told "maybe I forgot I tipped" and when I requested a copy of the receipt I was given a picture of just the total part that someone else wrote in. They cut off my signature part because it was obviously written in a different color pen. Okay so I wrote my total in blue then switched pens to sign in black? I told the manager that wasn't my writing. All he did was give the bartender that was working that night my phone number and had him call me and basically guilt trip about giving him a bad rap. Not the smartest move on my part to not fill it in but I never would have thought I would have been stolen from.

Yelp
Old I. On the corner of 10th and S. Street parking and there's also an Old Ironsides parking strip across the street Inside there's two rooms. The bar: Aside from the bar, there's TVs, a jukebox, a couple high tables and booths. The next room has tables and a stage.. beyond this room, you'll find a doorway to the restrooms. They have different events, different nights.. you'll want to refer to their calendar if you want to hit open mic or karaoke, etc. They serve food and have daily specials but foodwise, I come for Meatless Mondays-- typically the second Monday of every month. Well, every Monday they have guest chefs come in and you can get a plate of food for $5 at 6pm until they run out. Now Meatless Monday's guest chef is the Burly Beverage guy.. So not only do you get a meal for $5 but he has his own sodas available that you can have solo or have it with liquor. So for me, that's a win-win. There's a Meatless Monday Facebook page that you can RSVP to and get a heads up on the menu. If you end up just going, paper menus float around for the evening's offerings. Across the left side of the bar is a window to the kitchen.. here at this window is where you'll pay your $5 cash (there's a tip jar, too) and receive your meal. Hang out and have drinks. It's a good time. Another plus is there may be an optional dessert vendor.. Sometimes it's complimentary dessert.. it's always different and it can be vegetarian and/or vegan. This is cool because you get exposure to these other vendors and talk to the proprietors. For Meatless Mondays.. I'm sure for any of the guest chefs.. they may run out of food, they may have excess leftovers. You never know so just go.

Yelp
1st time and last time coming here. Place was cool people were friendly and music was amazing all good except for the power trip security guard who gave us attitude from the moment my wife of 30 years tried to show him the tickets to venue on her phone. We were there for Kashd out show on thier whiskey n weed tour yet got kicked out for a vape pen. So you allow a show from the whiskey n weed tour but kick us out while the main group on stage. To make matters worse we complied with the no vape rule but while dancing the pen fell out wife's pocket which led to another lady picking it up and puffing it. Then out of no where I'm dancing having great time and I feel this hand of bouncer snatch me up by the arm and said you two out as in myvwife and I. The girl who hit the pen got to stay. My arm has a huge bruise now from being grabbed by this bouncer who obviously had it out for us. I will now tell all my friends and family to avoid this place unless they want to get kicked out. Not to mention I paid $180 for merch to help support the group. Also tipped bar tender well all night for she was amazing. Sucks how one guys power trip could ruin a special event like this. And oh yeah it was our anniversary too so ty for making it one we won't forget

Yelp
I've been to several 60s garage rock shows here since moving from L.A. to Davis and I really like this venue. The sound is generally good, the stage is low so you're right in the action, and the dance floor is big enough to cut a rug. Two restroom stalls for the ladies, and they were nice and clean the times I've been. Indoor temp just right - not too hot nor cold. I don't drink, but the bartenders were swift to fill my glass of water. The Old Ironsides neon sign behind the stage always looks cool in photos. This bar definitely has an ambiance I dig, and they seem to book plenty of good shows. I look forward to the next!

Yelp
I have had so many amazing experiences at this bar. I've seen shows that I will smile to recall for the rest of my life. But it was when I was in a band that I really came to appreciate Old I. They gave us a chance when nobody knew who we were. If we were willing to work hard and promote ourselves they noticed and rewarded us. The sound guys were always great. WE GOT PAID! We were totally wiling and eager to play anywhere, any time and didn't expect to get paid. It still pissed me off though if someone would offer money and then not come through (Press Club) but Old I always delivered. They told us the deal up front and they stuck to it. And if we were too amped from playing and left without our little envelope of money you could bet it would be waiting for us behind the bar the next day. I love Sacramento and Old I is one of the reasons why. Looking forward to many more great shows.

Yelp
It's a dive in the best sense of the word. Old Ironsides is one of the more popular bars of its kind in Sacramento and I can totally see why. No frills, just a cool bar, a centrally-located space and a large dance floor/stage that is great for up-close-and-personal views of quality local bands. While I'm tempted to knock off a star because the music sucked the last time I was there (really DJ, does this look like the hip hop crowd?), I can't discount the fact that this was the exception to the norm and Ironsides is usally pretty good about bringing in quality indie acts. One other gripe: the place can get pretty packed on a weekend, and I know that can sometimes be a negative for winos like me who like easy bar access. Consider yourself warned. :)

Yelp
This place is really cute. Looks like a typical bar on the outside, but when you come in.. it has a diner feel. Owned by a couple, the food has its own yummy character. Typical salads, burgers, and sandwiches. Nothing super fancy, but everything home made and fast to get you some food fuel. I ordered the terriyaki burger. A good size piece of salmon, glazed with terriyaki sauce (a bit too much) and grilled. Wedged between two pieces of bread and dressed with lettuce, tomato, and cheese? I ordered mine with just lettuce and avocado. Served with your choice of salad or fries. It was pretty good, but too saucy. I would've also liked my burger bun dry since I'm not a fan of dairy. Otherwise, the price is good. The service is great and the servers are really quick and good about checking up on you.

Yelp
Virgin Yelp review here... :) And a few other firsts as well - first lunch & check-in at Old I, and first photo posted to Yelp! On 3/4/13, Met the hubby outside my office & strolled a few blocks down to Old Ironsides for lunch. I was looking forward to eating there as I've heard the food is great! Walked in shortly before noon and there was only one party seated at one of the little circular booths. Hubby & I often sit at the bar when we go out to eat (faster seating) so we grabbed a couple stools at the counter, even though it wasn't crowded at the time. From the outside, Old Ironsides' building is very nondescript. Inside, it's got some character. Wood interior, a small coat closet right inside the door, small circular booths along one wall, and what I can only imagine - authentic, old school Pabst decor along the bar. If my memory serves me correctly, Old I holds the area's oldest liquor license west of Mississippi. I believe the menu states it opened in 1939 - how's that for a little local history? The bartender (unfortunately I've already forgotten his name) came right over to take our drink orders & give us menus. As usual, I had a hard time deciding as several options appealed to me, but I happened to see something on their Daily Special board that caught my eye... A Sunny side Burger - with of course, a Sunny side up egg on it, and fries on the side. Hubs ordered the meatloaf sandwich, and a cup of soup to start. We didn't wait long for our order. However, hubby's soup never came, but he was quite happy with just the sandwich as it was hearty, flavorful and quite filling. My burger was big, tasty and kinda messy - as one might expect due to the runny egg yolk. The crinkle cut fries were nice and crispy, just like I like 'em. I happily took it all down leaving nary a crumb on my plate. Our bartender was great. Friendly and attentive, but not overly so. Kept my glass full without me asking once. Found out he also handles bookings for the nightly entertainment at Old I, which is cool! The only downside to my experience was that it was a little bit of a challenge trying to take bites outta my big burger & not make a mess while leaning over the arm cushion of the bar counter! I will definitely be back again to try other things on the menu... Heard the garlic chicken sandwich is delicious, and a coworker friend told me she likes many of their salad offerings too.

Yelp
Yeah, Old Ironside hosts Meatless Mondays and for that, I commend them but after giving them five chances to win me over, I reluctantly pronounce the place, in the immortal words of Steve Harvey, "Ahh Hell NO!" Sadly, the meatless Monday food is bland, uninspired, and unrepresentative of quality vegan fare. But if you've only got a fiver and an empty stomach, it might be worth checking out. Personally, if you're light on cash, hanging DT, and have a hankerin for some meatless grub, I recommend heading over to Pieces or Dad's on S. A fellow vegan friend of mine intimated recently that, the food offered on at Old I on Monday evenings actually do a disservice to veganism because it's simply not good food. If a typical standard American eater wanted to get on the bandwagon of eating healthier and sustainably by trying meatless Mondays at Old Ironside for a quaff and a bite, they might be easily discouraged from maintaining the tradition. Let's just add that to the fact that Old Ironside looks like it could be a set replacement for a Horace and Pete episode. In other words, it's a sad, old-timey relic where retired barflies while away their fleeting golden years in pint after pint. The place is dark and smells like only a small dank bar knows how--of shhwetty crotch, stale beer, and cigarette ashes. Granted, if you're in the mood for a quick drink and are on a crawl, this place might just be the place you want to swing by but I can assure you that you won't see me there.

Yelp
I've been to Old I for group lunches in the past, but this week, this was me and my coworkers' spot to watch the World Cup semis during lunch. Mr. Bartender sells those daily specials like hot cakes, since 90 percent of the people order it after he describes all of the goodies in them. I'm not a huge fan of steak (that was the special for both days I was there), so I passed and ordered the Cajun Veggie Burger the first day and a Turkey Club the second. Both were flavorful and not extremely messy to eat. I haven't regretted asking for crinkly fries over salad. They're so crisp! Thank you Old I for provided necessary entertainment and great food in the middle of a work day!

Yelp
Just plain awesome for for live music and few drinks. Nothing fancy, but not a total dive bar from my perspective. The stage is right on the floor making for some really excellent and intimate performances. Lot's of great indie acts pass through Sac, and Ironsides is a great venue to catch a few of them. They have a full bar and a some decent local beers on tap (sierra, anchor steam) along with the obligatory PBR. They offer pitchers on draft beer as well so you can save a couple bucks if you're with a group. Most of the bartenders are pretty efficient even on busy nights, but I don't usually have great expectations when the place is packed. One thing to note, you will almost always be paying a $5-$10 cover after 9 or 10pm. They have live music or a dance-DJ almost every night they are open and can't recall a time I didn't have to drop a few bucks at the door.

Yelp
I don't think I have ever had a BAD time at Old I. Ok, scratch that...once...but that wasn't Old I's fault. The bartenders are great, the door guys are great and if the Secretions or Knockoffs are playing you are sure to have a good time ;) Support your local music scene - screw the dance parties - go to a show! ***UPDATE*** I felt the need to update my post after reading Chris M's review. They DO have shows at Old I - if I am not mistaking - every week. In fact they had one last night (Monday). So please readers, don't get the idea that this is only a dance club. Pick up an Alive and Kicking for more show listings.

Yelp
Just moved to Sac and went in to have a couple drinks, the bouncer there failed to believe my I.D was real just because it was from another state. When I told him I'd answer any questions that he wanted to prove it was real he told me "it's as simple as this, get the f*** out or I'll knock you the f*** out" I've never been talked to like that before from a "professional" and he was completely in the wrong. I wish I would have let that idiot hit me, but anyways, I don't even make yelp posts. This experience was THAT BAD. Stay away or fire the power hungry idiot you have bouncing.

Yelp
Great Dive Bar. Be read to adjust your eyes when you walk in, when they say dive bar they mean dive bar! Don't be intimidated, super fun and kind staff. $4.50 drafts or less and complimentary goldfish! Check it out!

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! Old Ironsides is one of my favorite lunch spots because it's not too far away from my office; the staff is friendly and wonderful; and I have not had anything on the menu that disappointed me. STAFF and ATMOSPHERE I've become a regular at Old Ironsides. I love the staff and how well they treat their customers. Sam, the mustachioed owner that runs the bar at lunch-time, is sweet, always makes me feel welcome, knows my name, and is fun to chat with while waiting on an order. The place has an older feel to it, a place where you feel comfortable and everyone knows your name. Lol... not Cheers. ;) FOOD The food is superb. I stuck with a few dishes at first but eventually worked myself through the various items on the menu. I honestly have enjoyed each one I tried. Their specials aren't listed as regular menu items, so look out for them on the blackboard. There are dishes that will blow your mind! *Hint: try the lamb.* ^_^ **Sam told me that they will be updating their menu soon! I'm excited to try whatever they dish out.** PRICE It's fairly priced for dining downtown. A meal can range from $6.50 to $13.00, depending on what you get. Burgers and big salads will be around $8. The higher-end meals are totally worth it! NIGHTLIFE I haven't attended their night scene, but they have live bands regularly. They also entertain parties if you call ahead and make reservations.

Yelp
I have not been to Old Ironsides in years. I use to be a semi-regular when it was a short drunk walk from my place. Good local talent and good company. Yesterday I went there for lunch with my co-workers. Now, I have not checked the previous yelps but I am sure this is in there multiple times. And here goes one more. The Rib-eye sandwich was not just bomb, it was atomic bomb. And I wasn't even hungry. I will not waste your time with descriptions, just go to lunch there and check it out. Of course, attentive staff. It was cool to go back, I'm sure it wont be as long between next time.

Yelp
I was enjoying the musicians and admired the courage it took for each person or group to get up on stage. However, by 11pm I had not yet performed but several folks who were behind me had been called up to perform. I was not at all happy that the host allowed people to change the order of performers even though we all stood in line to sign up but when I said something he said he didn't do it, that the people did it on their own - yet the sign up was in front of him the entire time. It was hard enough to build the courage to show up but I have a disability and having to wait until 11:30pm just because people and host chose to reconfigure original sign up sheet was really frustrating. I hope they can honor the signups next time. Being new, the impression was that you're not "in" unless you're in. Disappointing.

Yelp
Old I has an excellent Blue Cheese burger. Until they break it I will continue order it! They have a short window of 11:30 until 2 to serve food. All the locals know it and hightail it over there. It is not uncommon at all to wait for a table. This place has history predating back to before your grandpappy was born. If your grandpappy was born when this was built then dang you are old and maybe burgers aren't really for you....just saying..... Rich is the man, friendly bartender that after a while recognizes voices on the phone and can remember what your usual is. Its not hard for me, its the Blue Burger.... all d time.

Yelp
Chill scene with music venues that hit the spot, along with world-class bar tenders Louis and Gonzo... and can't forget security man, Abraham. All good! I'm hesitant to share the world-famous band members we ran into last week after catching the Black Keys LIVE for the second night in a row, but here's a hint... One was the Lead Vocalist and renown rock Guitarist, and the other was a tall, friendly, off-the-charts talented drummer. We were BLOWN the F'away when they walked into Old Ironsides and though I risked my life in the process (appropriately protective and terrifying BK body guards), we got a picture before they left. Go to Old Ironsides, often... It's a worthy venue for music enthusiasts and they serve tasty nutrition and adult beverages. Dan A. had a TALL glass of Maker's Mark, (handmade Kentucky whisky) and a Greyhound or two. Patrick stuck with suds -- we followed their lead. What an EPIC night!

Yelp
Awesome little hole in the wall! Didn't expect the food to be this awesome. Defiantly would come back here. The servers and service was awesome and friendly!

Yelp
I can't say much for the drinks. They aren't very strong and cost too much (except the beer isn't bad at all). However the place is great for weekly (Lipstick) and monthly (Vicious) dance clubs. The resident djs are great, there is no cover if you come before 10 on Tuesday nights, and the best place to run into hipster kids. The downside is that it does tend to be a bit of a meat market, but if you don't let that bother you, dancing at Old Ironsides is great. Haven't tried any of their food yet, so I can only judge it on its nightlife merits.

Yelp
Such a great place to take your date for lunch. The nightlife is really off the chain

Yelp
The calamari steak, Friday's only for lunch, is the best ever. Get there by 11:30 though. It's a popular lunchtime favorite on Friday's.
