Old Lady Gang Review - Castleberry Hill - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"When we want to pretend that we’re actually part of Mama Joyce, Aunt Nora, and Aunt Bertha’s fam, we head to Old Lady Gang. We can’t help but feel like kinfolk when a plate of juicy baked chicken doused in a thick brown gravy hits the table. This Castleberry Hill spot serves up other Southern favorites like hot cornbread topped with brown sugar and shrimp and grits with a vodka sauce that should absolutely be in every dish since it’s that good. While you may not see Kandi, who also owns Blaze, it’s not unusual to see an OLG member patrolling the casual dining room asking how your meal is. Just offer them a playful “bravo,” and then happily go back to eating and humming to the joint’s R&B-heavy playlist." - Juli Horsford

I recently visited Old Lady Gang restaurant with my mom, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. My mom ordered the fried fish dinner with mac & cheese and collard greens. She absolutely loved her meal, especially the fish, which was crispy and flavorful. The collard greens were well-seasoned and delicious, and the mac & cheese was creamy and rich. I opted for Kandi’s Honey Glazed Blackened Salmon with the same sides. The salmon was well-prepared with a nice balance of sweetness and spice, but I found the portion a bit small for my liking. The collard greens were a highlight for me as well, perfectly cooked with a satisfying depth of flavor. However, the mac & cheese, while creamy, was a bit too cheesy and soupy for my taste. Overall, Old Lady Gang offers a solid dining experience with some standout dishes. While there were a few minor issues, the overall meal was enjoyable, and I'd consider returning for another visit.

I've been wanting to go to OLG since the very first one opened, but I started hearing mixed reviews. If it wasn't for a friendly connection to this OLG location, I don't know if I ever really would have made a big effort to go. All that being said, I'm glad I went! My boyfriend and I ordered the lamb chops (medium rare), the shrimp & grits, 2 crab cakes, side of mac n cheese, side of collard greens, a sweet tea, and a strawberry lemonade. 3 cornbread muffins came with the orders too. We didn't alter the menu items at all and it was SO good! We've had Marcus Bar & Grill (which we LOVE), and we compared the food to that level. I really don't have any complaints, so to speak, but I did think the grits-- like just the grits; not the shrimp or sundried tomatoes-- was bland by itself, and I didn't like that the shell was still on the shrimp. I also wasn't a fan of the 18% gratuity already calculated into the payment, but it is what it is (Atlanta 🙄). Other than that, very happy with the atmosphere and staff. I don't know why the restaurant has a 3.5 star rating right now, but I do think they could improve ever so slightly on making the customer experience go a little more smoothly. For example, we were seated but not given utensils until after our appetizers came. Our cornbread also came out after we pretty much finished our whole meal. Those were little things, but we weren't caught up on that stuff. Just making note. All things considered, I would definitely recommend and go back.

I expected way more for it to be “a celebrity” establishment. Food: Very bland. Cornbread tasted like water. Sweet potato soufflé had way too much cinnamon. Salmon bites were ok. Some didn’t even have meat in them. Service: Excellent service! Atmosphere: NEEDS UPDATING! Bathroom was nasty. Chairs were from 1900 seemed like. Just didn’t feel clean to me. Music was enjoyable at the least. OVERPRICED!!!!!!!!

Regardless of the past reviews my cousin and I decided to go to OLG on Saturday afternoon. The server was great the entire time. I ordered the Salmon with mash potatoes and Mac &cheese. The sides were great but the salmon was small compared to other restaurants salmon and it was very dry. She ordered fish and she said it was pretty good.

Please bring back hand-held menus. What type of message are you sending to people with visual disabilities or those who may not carry a cellphone. Anyway, the food was very tasty, very good. However, the music was too loud, the server was slow to check back with us after we got our food, and the 18% gratuity on top of overly priced food was too much. I doubt I will ever return.

Our server was great! The host wasn't the most pleasant or prompt at seating us but the food and the music was the bomb! I'm not a fan of fried green tomatoes in general. However the way OLG makes theirs with the barbecued pulled chicken and feta cheese on top was delicious. I loved the grilled lamb chops, mac n cheese, and collards. 90's hip hop was playing. The vibe was cool. I also loved the carafe of mimosa!

While traveling with family to Atlanta Ga, we decided to have dinner at OLG! Our waiter, Justin was very professional and attentive to our needs. The food was delicious! I ordered the salmon, mac and cheese and collard greens, everything was fresh and well seasoned. My mom enjoyed her fried fish and sweet potatoes. Very impressed!

Enjoyed OLG for my daughter’s graduation. We got there earlier than opening time and the workers came out to make sure we would stay until opening. The service was greatly appreciated and made us feel welcome during our wait!
