I'm probably one of the last persons to try this funky market/cafe in old 6th ward. They really offer quite a bit, from a market, to a Cafe, gift shop, and resale of vintage goods. I visited during breakfast on a Friday where they offer coffee pastries and breakfast tacos. On weekends, they have brunch with larger breakfast plates, sandwiches and even tamales and boudain. That's also when they serve bbq plates. Weeknights they have daily specials like Monday steak night, taco tuesday, burger Thursdays and Sunday rack of ribs special.
Their 2 gift shop areas have a mix of vintage items and local goods.
The meat market area carrries 44 farms beef, 44 farms and RC Ranch jerky, housemade sausages and chorizo, and a frozen case with foods from local vendors.
They even have a frozen case selling Sweet Cup gelato and sorbet...and a Dapper Goat Dairy fridge selling their products.
Their cold case sells cokes, beer and wine similar to gas stations, but also houses local kombuchas, teas, flavored waters, local cold brews, margarita mixes, salsas, milks, fruits and vegetables.
Here, they truly sell local. Ask for Madison and she can tell you more about what they carry in the store.
I tried 2 breakfast tacos and a seasonal iced latte, lavender. The tacos are a la carte meaning they start at $3 just for the tortilla and egg, everything else is additional cost. I chose brisket, egg and cheese ($6.50), bacon egg beans and cheese ($5.00), and the lavender latte ($4.50). It's not a cheap breakfast, but it was all very good and high quality. The bacon taco comes with a full slice of thick bacon, I believe they use Wright bacon here. Their beans are actually pretty good as well....I was surprised. There is plenty of brisket on the brisket taco. Very flavorful and much better than a pappas brisket taco, for comparison, although that isn't saying much.
I originally came for the boudain since I heard the chef making it at the now closed Burt's Meat Market is making the boudain here. Burt's smoked boudain was the bomb and one of my fav boudains in the world after trying nearly 20 varieties on the Boudain Trail in Louisiana. At that time, imo, Burt's beat them all! Sadly. I wasn't headed back home after my visit here so I will have to return another time for the boudain.
