Old Street Malatang

First time having malatang! It was delicious! I got level 2 spice and think I should have gotten 3. The selection of ingredients was rlly great. The sauce bar was also great. It was very clean and organized.

Overall a delicious meal, thick broth, variety of selection. I don’t like the fishball and beefball though, they taste fake. Other things are fine. You need to clean your own bowl to the garbage bin so there is bare minimal service. Reasonable price.

Solid Malatang place to scratch an itch if you are near here. The soup base is actually really nice (better than some big names in town). The selection of ingredients can be better (not the essentials are here). They are so much cheaper than the other places ($12.99/lb vs other’s $14.99/lb).

Absolutely the best Malatang place in Seattle. Super clean ingredients, really flavorful broth, perfect doneness. Beancurd here is in great quality.

First tume experiencing malatang. Decent slection of veggies, fish balls, and meat varieties including lamb and chinese sausage. You can definitely get carried away line we did with wanting to try the different available items so ending up with more than 2 lbs of food during the weighing shouldn’t be a surprise to a noob like me. The instructions provided to us were simple and clear including a note about the use of dairy. Arriving at 2pm on a Saturday, there were enough seats that we didn’t have any issues with finding open seats. We both enjoyed our respective broth choices. Overall, no complaints.

Cheapest malatang place in Seattle with a good option of ingredients and tasty broth! If you like hot pot, you have to try this place. Malatang is basically an individual hot pot where you can choose what ingredients to put in and you pay by the pound. This place is the cheapest place to get it in Seattle at only $13 a pound! Even though this place is cheap, I think the broth is better than most of the other malatang places around. The broth is super rich and full of umami. It's smooth and creamy and balances the spiciness of the chili oil very well. I love getting a bunch of tofu skin and frozen tofu since it soaks up the broth well.

So good! I loved being able to pick all the veggies, meats, and carbs I wanted. There's so much variety - all the asian veggies, plenty of meat, and noodles too! I picked the beef collagen soup and it was delicious. I also tried the tom yum and signature broths and they were so good as well! SO much flavor, I didn't really need a dipping sauce at all. There's also an option to get your ingredients cooked as dry pot! But -1 star for how they display all the ingredients. They really need a different setup than the sliding door refrigerators! It was so inefficient, especially when there's a long line of people waiting to load their bowls. People end up reaching over each other to grab stuff, sometimes accidentally dropping ingredients into other ingredient containers, causing a mess and cross-contamination. At times, people have to stop and wait altogether for the person on the other side to finish grabbing ingredients because their side is blocked by the door! It's a hassle especially when people are waiting and hungry. The customer experience could be greatly improved with some alternative display system here.

I love me some good malatang, and this is some good malatang. Located in a central part of Capitol Hill, this malatang place catches your eye with their bright neon signs. The interior is large and clean and has lots of seating. They have different styles of malatang to choose from with varying spice levels. They offer unique broth flavors I haven't seen at other malatang restaurants, and there is a spicy dry mix option for vegetarians. There is a large variety of proteins and vegetables, which are all encased in fridges, so the food stays very fresh. This is probably one of the cheapest malatang places in Seattle, for $12.99/lb, which is an automatic win in my books. The staff are quick to make your food and then it's easy to bus your own table. A solid 4.5 stars and a great, cheap place to grab a casual meal in Cap Hill.

This was a good place for a quick mala tang fix. I still prefer YGf for the flavorful broth and variety. This place did not have a lot of choices of what could go into your soup. What we did like was the soup was not super salty and tasted homemade. I got the spicy and my counterpart got the bone broth. The spicy broth level two had no spice and was not that different from the regular bone broth. The service was quick but you need to bus your own table, so a lot of it is self service. It was quiet on the Sunday morning when we went. It's like a good place to help with a craving if you are in the area but not something I'd go out of my way for.

I come here more often than I probably should. It's a self serve, pay by the pound affair so at $12.99 per lb its actually pretty affordable for Seattle standards. The meat selection is limited to thin sliced beef, lamb shoulder and pork belly. There a lots of different kinds of meat balls though from beef, pork, shrimp, lobster, roe filled etc. I am pleased with the different kinds of mushrooms available. After weighing your bounty, you choose your broth and it is combined in the back and brought out to you for pick up. I usually go for the collagen bone broth which is rich. It is usually quite tasty but a little too lukewarm. I wish there was a way to specify that you'd like it pipping hot. The meat and veg is always cooked through. Further customization is possible with a serviceable sauce bar

There was a good selection of ingredients to choose from. There are only two fridges but they don't have duplicating ingredients. There were even some ingredients here that I hadn't seen at other restaurants. The price is cheaper than some other Malatang locations around at 12.99 per lb. There was lots of green onion and cilantro prepared for toppings. The food came out quickly.

My new go-to mala spot! This is your classic weigh-by-the-pound ingredients style malatang place. The ingredients are super fresh and several varieties of noodles/starches, vegetables, and protein! My take on the spice level: I got the level 5 because I wanted to hate myself but it wasn't too spicy for me personally. I love that you can garnish with green onions and cilantro at the self serve bar (along with other dipping sauces). The food comes out quickly and the seating is booth style (more of a casual spot). I'm sure I'll be back everytime I have a craving for mala spice!

I really wanted to love this place since malatang is such a great option to have nearby, but there were a couple of things that just didn't seem right. The concept is simple - you grab all the ingredients that you want and then bring it up to the cashier where they weigh the bowl and you choose the type of soup you want. I did like the variety of ingredients available and everything seemed quite fresh. However, I was a little skeptical of how they weighed it - while it says they tare the bowl, I'm almost certain they didn't. I've been to YGF before and when I was there I was told that I needed to fill up my bowl even more since there was a weight minimum. Here at Old Street, I definitely got less than the amount I got at YGF, but paid almost 1.5x as much. The scale was also 'tared' at 0 - shouldn't it be negative if the bowl weight is subtracted? Anyways, the flavors were decent and at level 3 spice I got definitely taste the mala. They also have toppings such as green onions and cilantro available for you to add. Just don't sit too close to the door, as it's quite cold even inside the restaurant itself.

This was such an unassuming dining spot. You can select whatever soup ingredients you want, and it ended up being so much more food than I expected! I got the bone broth because I can't handle spice. Broth wasn't too salty or heavy, which I really enjoyed.

Solid 4.5 star. Selection of ingredients are pretty good even though I went near closing time. The staff at the counter was very efficient and friendly. The store has a variety of booth, table and counter seating- food for groups of 4 or solo diners. The only infection is leafy veggies are a bit over done in the broth but that's kind of expected with soup based Malatang.

I love malatang but this place didn't wow me. The set up is very standard, go in and fill up your bowl, weigh it, and pay. The pricing is great and they have a decent amount of selection. However, the soup base lacked flavor and complexity that other malatang places have. My friend got the Tom Yum and it just had the sourness but not the other flavors. They also didn't cook it very well as half of the things were still very hard like the taro and potato. If you're in the area and can't be bothered to go further out then it's def an option but I would highly recommend YGF instead.

Second time coming here and really enjoyed it both times. The way it works is you come into the restaurant and grab a bowl and tongs and go to the freezers and grab whatever ingredients you want! I don't get to eat the fish balls often so I opted for a ton of those with a bit of beef and lamb. I get the tom yum for my soup base as I do not like super spicy malatang. The price is super affordable and the first time I went they have a free drink for getting over a pound.

The price is pretty good with a wide selection of ingredients you can put in it! I had the spicy Tom yum soup at the lowest spice level. You get the ingredients you want and put it in a bowl and they weigh it for you. The staff were nice. Doing their job. The interior was alright. There weren't a lot of booths/tables for groups of people. Mainly more of those bar seating types so it's difficult to chat if you go as a group. You bus your own table afterwards too. The neon lights decoration is nice though!

I'm so glad a malatang place opened in cap hill. It's got all the same ingredients as the bigger chains AND it's about a dollar or 2 less a pound. I really liked the tom yum broth and I want to try the dry one too some time.

Great place to get build your own Malatang. Convenient spot near Capitol Hill. They have lots of options, especially fish balls. The price is pretty on par with any other Malatang restaurant. The broth was pretty good. Decent amount of seating and I would come back.

Went to try old street on a Sunday afternoon. Parking was super hard to find but that's not new for cap hill. It is located at a pretty busy corner in the area and decorated with lots of fun neon lights. It was not very busy when we arrived, plenty of seating. This is really similar to YGF. It did feel "cleaner" but I noticed there were less ingredients (no mung bean noodle ) there's a variety of broths to choose from or you can get it stir fried. I thought it was tasty and the soup felt clean. For $12.99 per lb. it's a good deal if you're looking for an affordable customizable meal. I think I might enjoy YGF more since they have more ingredients but good for malatang if you're in cap hill! Friendly service and casual atmosphere - bus your own table at the end!

I'm so excited that this place popped up recently near my office. I've been craving malatang/hot pot and I'm excited that a single serving option is available for people on the go. Great value, tasty, and quantity doesn't disappoint! I knew exactly what I wanted and it came out to be $12! (12.99 per lb) compared to local competitors like YGF being 15.99 per lb is also another reason for me to choose Old Street!

Cap Hill finally has an individual, casual malatang spot! They have 1 vegetarian option, which is to get your toppings but no broth and do a stir fry. No vegan options unless you get your stuff raw, given I think they cook with butter. They do have quite a few options though for pescatarians, with the miso broth. The service was pretty speedy and the price seems reasonable too. It's pick your own stuff, weigh it, choose your broth, and go. I like that you can pick your spice level, but 2 wasn't really very spicy at all. Great spot for pescatarian or meat-eating folks.

Great value dry pot! I've only had dry pot here but I'm sure the hot pot is good as well. The service is self service really but they get food to you fast. The ambiance is cozy and I enjoyed eating food here!

Great portion sizes, great service! If you've ever felt stressed by over-ordering at hotpot, then this is the place for you. It's malatang and basically a build-your-own individual hotpot! Price is super reasonable and if your meal is over 1lb you'll get a free drink (harder than you'd think to hit 1lb). You pick your mix-ins and then can decide to get broth or sauce added for a soup or dry meal. There's a sauce/toppings bar with some extras as well! And free water even if you don't hit that 1lb for a free bev

I was super excited to hear about a new malatang place opening in Cap Hill. I really loved the decor, ambiance, and the free drinks! When you purchase an item, you can go to the drinks fridge and pick up a drink - there are tons of options ranging from soft drinks to bottled teas. As for the malatang itself, I thought it was alright. The broth wasn't my favorite, the tomato taste was too strong and I didn't think I got much mala. The toppings were okay too - had the basics but nothing too special. I was missing a variety of noodles (potato vermicelli, udon, etc.) and mushrooms, which YGF malatang has. I think that the price here is pretty good for the quality you get!

SO yummy!! Love the flavors, variety, and selection of this location. There's lots of seatings and easy take out or eat in options. Had a nice fish, meat, and broth selection with a dry version as well. Service is incredibly quick and the inside environment is very relaxed. Perfect for a nice chill cozy meal at a decent price.

Had the opportunity to try this place the other day and was really impressed by the value. Currently they charge $12.99 per pound and as I arrived with a party of 3, each of our individual bowls costed either right at or under twenty dollars. In this economy?? That's nuts! They offered a wide array of options for ingredients and their base beef broth was very flavorful. They are also doing a promotion where you get a free drink if your bowl weighs in at least one pound. I did wonder about the quality of some of the meat options they had available. There were a few times where some of the beef and pork cuts that I had in my soup were extremely chewy. Other notes that I had were that they have both bar and table seating available. I also remember the staff being quite friendly and checking in on us throughout our visit.

The ingredients are not fresh, the broth is worse, too salty. I don't know why they have high review. The topping selection didn't wow me, but it's reasonable for the price. It's cheapest Malatang in Seattle but I don't think it's worth even trying. Parking is hard and soup isn't good. I feeling like they mixed only salt, chili oil, and water in the broth.

I mean it's good and safe. Safe meaning, anyone can eat it. I was hoping because it's "mala" that it'd be spicy, so I went three different times to try to get diff levels of spicy, but each time it wasn't spicy even with the highest level. Everything seemed fresh and reasonably priced, but just the mala is missing...

Pretty yummy food! I've been here twice. The sesame sauce is a must-have..it is so good as a dipping sauce. The overall place was clean, they were wiping counters down frequently. I look forward to come here regularly.

Food was really tasty with various options to suit your taste and came in giant bowls! There's a drink fridge that's free with purchase. The service was really fast and workers were friendly. The restaurant is still brand new but the space is large and clean.

Service here kinda eh and the atmosphere is a little small. The price of soup is high because it's by the lbs however it's worth it because it's tasty and big. I would come back here and I recommend this place.

They offer a solid selection of fresh veggies, noodles, and proteins. We do wish they had fishball with roe since there was none. All the toppings cooked perfectly, and the spice level is adjustable. The portions were generous for the price at $12.99/lb. We'll definitely be back to try more broth and topping combinations!

Such good value! I've been maybe around 10+ times since they've opened and the value and convenience can't be beat! I usually get the original Mala base and enjoy it with the sesame sauce and a bit of vinegar. Pretty much all toppings/materials that you would want. They just opened not too long ago, so I'm excited to see improvements once they get more settled! I would love to see a tomato broth, bowls for the sauces, and a better way for customers to return their bowls.

It's nice to have a malatang place in cap hill. Decent selection for food items. Broth was a little underwhelming and not spicy enough. I think the items have been cooked slightly longer.
