The Best Restaurants in North Beach and Bal Harbour in Miami, Florida - Eater Miami

"Chef Herman Gonzalez adds new dishes almost daily to his Bay Harbor restaurant’s Peruvian menu, a meticulous melange of flavors he infuses with unexpected fun and whimsical touches. His list of ceviche options range from classic to grilled to vegetarian, and there are entrees of salmon tiradito in a passionfruit sauce, chupe de camarones, chifas, and seafood plates. Peruvian flavors also make their way into pasta, risotto, and Chinese dishes like kam-lu wantan, made with fried wonton, pear, chicken, shrimp, quail eggs, and tamarindo sweet sauce." - Juliana Accioly, Olee Fowler

One of the best Peruvian places I’ve been to in Miami. I love Octopus, but unfortunately not all places know how to cook it, this place definitely doesn’t disappoint. Ceviche had a lot of flavor as well. Tequeños we’re good and filled with flavor. Will definitely be back!

Google
O’Lima is outstanding! Located in a beautiful place in the heart of Bay Harbour , with an incredible environment that makes you feel totally comfortable and relaxed while you are waiting your order. We took advantage of it, drinking the spectacular Pisco sour, it was incredible delicious. As Peruvian, I can say that the food was totally amazing! Delicious in flavor with an incredible presentation 👌🏼. I highly recommend O’Lima for any event, or celebration you need to attend.

Google
Wow!! Just went for the first time and I was blown away by o’lima. We had the grilled octopus which was the best I have had and I love Octopus! It was garnished with potatoes and with a type of olive mayonnaise sauce that’s made with a Peruvian olive and I literally almost wanted to lick the plate. This was also the first time that I had the grilled ceviche and it too was delicious. We had the Taqueños de lomo saltado (wonton wrappers stuffed with beef) also AMAZING!! We actually got a little bit of everything so I’m including the photos. The owner you can tell is very passionate and the staff was very attentive. I’m so happy I found my new spot for Peruvian!!!

Google
Unbelievably delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner options! Highly recommend you make the time to visit this awesome restaurant when you are in the Miami area

Google
Ate here for our anniversary, food was delicious, beautifully presented. Service was very attentive, and when told it was our anniversary gave us the extra touch of writing that on the plate of our dessert. Unfortunately, dessert was bit too sweet for us, however I highly recommend this restaurant and will be thinking about once I am back home in Toronto.

CRISTINA was a wonderful waitress, very knowledgeable of the menu and attentive to my stay. Got the octopus appetizer which was AMAZING. And the seafood rice dish was delicious as well. :)

Google
If you love Peruvian gastrobars, check this place out. Delicious! One of the best Peruvian restaurants I’ve been to in Miami. A bit more on the pricey end (it is close to Bal Harbour so go figure) but still worth it.

Google
Delectable plates. We had fried causas, tiraditos in aji amarillo sauce, the grill pulpo w olivo sauce, duck chaufa, and tuna steak as dessert Maracuyá mouse. The service impeccable. The atmosphere match the well decorative space as well as service and food. They will see as back soon.

Yelp
We came to this little place because it was on the American Express website, my girlfriend is Peruvian we get there the place is empty, it's dinner time 6/7 pm on a Thursday, they had to our surprise the miami spice menu.. $60 each come with the whole thing from apps to dessert, So check this out .. my girlfriend orders the octopus appetizer from the grill , and I got the artichoke salad, really good but the octopus is the best I've had in Miami you know that taste when you start having orgasms in your mouth? Yeah So then I had the sea bass off the grill too again orgazum flavors !!!!! She had this seafood pasta thing it was good not as good as the fish So we are full and still have dessert , I don't speak Spanish and I don't know what these desserts are Girlfriend orders for us . One passionfruit moose And one Carmel something that just went perfect together, The Carmel was almost like a banana foster, the you take a bite of the passionfruit moose Omfg !!! I'm coming back I'm hard to please but for the $139. I'd pay more and still be happy .. but the only slimy sketchy thing is they charge you more to pay with a Credit Card , why ruin such a nice dinner by using sketchy card processors,, I felt insulted I'm not cheep but it's your business don't make me pay to process my credit card? ,, I'm still coming back cause the food was amazing!!!

Yelp
O'lima was a great gem as we were staying in north miami for the weekend. Food was great for the most part, service could have been better. We had food outside and had: Ceviche, lomo, tequenos and a few other items. I would recommend this place

Yelp
Excellent service !! Food is good only thing I definitely expected for the octopus to be better than what it was but other than that it was great can't forget the drinks were great and service aswell !!

Karla S.

Yelp
Best Pollo a la Brasa in town, that is only for take-out. Service very quick, nice ambiance. Prive of chicken very affordable. With two sides.

Yelp
Brunch is amazing!! Short rib Benedict, crème brûlée French toast and red velvet pancakes... all super delicious. And yummy passion fruit mimosas. Very nice attentive staff. Can't wait to try dinner.

Yelp
Miami Spice started very early this year due to the pandemic to help support local restaurants. I was searching around in my neighborhood and found out this place was participating and the dining room was actually at 50% capacity. However, the bar wasn't fully operational so they could only serve limited cocktails. I started with the Pisco Sour and boy I tell you. It wasn't watered down so I got another round during the dinner service. For the 1st course, I got the Pulp a La Parrilla. It was cooked just right. Not rubbery and loved the smoky flavor from the grill. For the 2nd course, I got Pescado Chutney with Tuna. The flavors were on point. Savory with a hint of spice. The fish was also perfectly cooked. Flaky and moist. The last course of course was dessert. I selected the 4 leches. Impressive. It looked so rich and super sweet but it was just right. I really enjoyed this dessert. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant. For $39, their Miami Spice menu is worth checking out. Of course, cocktails are extra but well worth it. The service was good too. My server was very attentive and knowledgeable. I just wonder why I haven't been here before because they've been open for years. Well, I just have to keep coming back to try their full menu.

Yelp
spectacular service and food! with the help of my server and the chef, i ordered an octopus and fish ceviche. WOW - out of this world. the chef also sent out extra sauces to make sure i tried all the best flavors for my dish. can't wait to go back.

Yelp
It's been a while since O'Lima opened its door in Bal Harbor and it has always been the type of Peruvian restaurant with an upscale level. However, I was happy to see last week that they were part of the Miami Spice with a lunch and dinner menu. We were there to celebrate a friend's birthday at lunchtime. As soon as we sit, the waiter brought us the menu but I requested the Miami spice one since I knew they were part of it (which I didn't like they just didn't add it when they brought the menu. If I wouldn't know already, I wouldn't be able to taste more options of their menu, that's the beauty of Miami spice). So from the Miami spice menu, I had the Papa a la Huancaina which was pretty good. It came with some Peruvian corn and queso fresco. My friends decided to get the Tiradito in the aji Amarillo sauce and the Causa (which in this case, the Causa was presented as a potato ball with chicken on top. Usually, Causa is made of a potato layer, the filling in the middle and the potato on top making it look like a little cake; however, she was surprised by the taste of the potato). As an entree, I decided to go for the Quinoa Chaufa which was a vegetarian and lighter option instead of the regular Arroz Chaufa (Peruvian fried rice). Arroz Chaufa with chicken was also part of the entree options and two of my friends ordered it and loved it! My other friend decided to go for the Mahi Florentina (in their regular menu they have it but with Seabass). My friends enjoyed that dish too although I mentioned that not a typical Peruvian dish. For dessert, we all had the 4 Leches and it was ok, didn't taste like made at the restaurant but bought from somewhere else. Now, this restaurant can get a little bit pricey; however, they have plenty of options with an extensive menu and are super-inclusive with vegetarians and it's a nice place. I'm just giving it 4 stars because the service was slow. We were the only table at the restaurant but they took a while to bring us the entrees.

Yelp
O'lima is a good representation of Peruvian food. I stuck to the ceviche on my visit and everything was very fresh and tasty. They had indoor and outdoor seating and both were nice. It was a little warm on the day I was in so I opted for inside. The service was very professional and quick. I was there for a business lunch and would go back anytime.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and fantastic food. Salmon tiradito with passionfruit was one of the best fishes I've ever had in my life (I'm a huge foodie so this is a big compliment).

Yelp
My daughter and I decided to try the Miami Spice menu at this eatery last night. It's a short walk from where I live. It was an awful experience all around. The restaurant had FOUR total tables that were dining when we arrived. It took a bit to even get the spice menus before we ordered. The entrees arrived an hour and a half after we ordered. I couldn't understand why we had to wait so long, but another table was having the same issues from what we could see. The waitress was apologetic the entire time. Poor girl was not at fault, it was the kitchen crew that was below average at best. I decided on this spot because it's always full on the weekends. That's when I take it the chef/owners are doing the cooking. I don't think either of them was there last night. My seafood pasta was almost inedible. They burned the sauce that goes with the pasta. It was brown and there was a distinct burned taste to it. The appetizers weren't much better either. The grilled octopus was tough and hard to chew. My salmon cortaditos were slathered in a heavy sauce where you couldn't even determine that there was actual salmon on the plate. A total disaster of a meal. The wait was inexcusable considering there were only four tables to serve to. I will not be back even though it's in my neighborhood. The only advice I can give the chef/owners is if you are going to make people wait that long for food on a weeknight, don't bother opening the business. The worst Spice experience I have had in Miami in the last five years. Take your money some place else and avoid this trap.

Yelp
Delivery fail. Made an order at the beach and the delivery showed up with no forks, knives or spoons. I had specifically requested cutlery in the delivery order (as if that's even necessary - when should food ever arrive without cutlery?! Never) so now we are all sitting on the beach looking at a bunch of tasty food that we cannot eat. C'mon O'lima, step up your game.

Yelp
Just finished a very nice dinner with many new and tasty flavour combinations . We started with the trio of ceviches to share. We are a big fan of ceviche and poke and these were excellent. My wife had the Arroz con mariscos and raved about it- although she said if we made this at home it would be enough to share. I had the lomos Gorgonzola. The sauce was amazing. The meat portion was large. Service was good. The room was pleasant and I loved the jazz music in the background , not too loud bu loud enough to appreciate.

Yelp
This place has a great breakfast! Staff is super friendly and food was tasty. I had the breakfast burrito and it was delicious and enormous. John has the eggs Benedict and he said best in town. We both loved our cappuccinos and will be back!

Florence L.

Yelp
The restaurant has the best service I have ever experienced. The food was very good. We had a spectacular time.

Yelp
Amazing eggs benny. Service was great. Peruvian and general american fare. A real hidden gem in this neighborhood. We live in north beach and electric scoot up here often

Yelp

Yelp
Yummy grilled octopus, got the appetizer size with hualquaina salsa, one whole tentacle for the app comes with a sliced potato, charred nicely, would be nice with a kick of chili if you like spicy. Came early for lunch.

Yelp
Exceptional Dinner... I will return for sure. Wild caught fish and organic chicken. The Passion Fruit Dessert.... yummy. Peruvian cuisine at its best. The service was wonderful!
google avatar

Moshe H.

Yelp
Terrible service. Took over an hour for the plates to come and messed up the whole order! Then told us the chef left so we will not get part of the food! Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Stay away.

Yelp
Overcooked Mahi on the Pescado a lo Macho. Order something else. Chef with a bad attitude, won't take it back. Oh well, Yelpers be aware :-(

Yelp
This place is definitely a nice gem to the area. Because I'm married to the most beautiful Peruana in the world, you know I have to have some Peruvian Cuisine! We had a little bit of everything here. The ceviche was excellent, as well as the starters which were tequenos de lomo saltado and pulp with Peruvian corn. As my entree, I had the skirt steak with ravioli cheese noodles. It was so delicious. The only downside to the night was that the service wasn't all that great. We had to wave down the servers way too many times and didn't order our drinks until after our appetizers came out. Although this was an oversight, I don't believe we will have the same experience when returning. I look forward to coming back to the restaurant when I am in the area.

Yelp
Best Peruvian restaurant that we have tried. Increíble unique flavors. Francesco is a young chef that surprised us with amazing Peruvian dishes. We love the Causa de Tuna, ceviche a la brasa and the octopus. We will come back for sure to try more. Ah. And I enjoyed the pisco sour. Staff is super friendly and very attentive.

Yelp
I ordered diet inka cola and got regular inka cola but that wasn't even the biggest problem. I paid $5 for it thinking i was going to get a 2 liter bottle and got a can instead. wow . First time ever ordering here to. crazy. The Jalea was alright but was expecting more or variety. I'm peruvian myself so it's not my first time eating jalea or peruvian food.
google avatar

Paloma F.

Yelp
I meeeaaan! Even the low lighting (romantic setting) couldn't make these pictures not pop! I am from Peru and when I tell you this place awakened my palette to a new level. The infusion of typical Peruvian cuisine flavors with French elegance, plus unsuspecting additions, made this place one I will always visit when in the Miami area. This would be the perfect place for date night or a family gathering as we had. I ate the slow cooked beef stew...O-Emm-Geeee! Just try it

Yelp
Horrible horrible customer service , no greeting Felt very Un welcomed here There was no one in the place and proceeded to ask if we had reservation they sat us and never came to our table , we waited like 15-20 min and then asked a lady for some drinks which never came we ended up leaving And going to good old Flanigans right down the road Much better service and we always feel very welcomed here , we live close by and wanted to find a Peruvian place close to us but service is a number 1 for us and they have much to be desired in that department I recommend going to 163rd to ceviche inka they have excellent service and their food is amazing

Yelp
Another great Peruvian restaurant! I have checked on this place for a while but I never had the opportunity to actually go there. Yesterday, I decided to finally visit the island and jump in. Parking is a little tricky... but it was not crowded for a Sunday night. We didn't have a reservation yet we were able to find a table. We were a small party pf 3 (2 adults one child). We were able a nice spot thanks to the fact that it was not crowded. We were greeted and welcomed. The server was very nice and eager to provide us with suggestions. We ordered wanton lomo, aji de gallina, lomo gorgonzola and a kids meal (chicken and rice). The food was just great! Amazing taste and nice service. At the end we close the experience with a 4 leches (which was a very happy ending!) The price was very reasonable. We paid $130 (tip included) we did not order drinks thou since they didn't have anything that we wanted. Normally we ordered chicha morada (which they did not have... boomer!!!) I recommend this place completely! Classy, good service, great food and affordable price. We will go back soon!

Yelp
My delivery ceviche go to. Ceviche asado is a weekly craving that must be taken care of. Their pisco sours are also lovely.

Yelp
My wife is Peruvian, so we eat Peruvian food all the time and all around the world such as in London, Spain, Italy, and even in Paris. The truth is most Peruvian restaurants in Miami are sub-par. They offer a good price for lesser quality ingredients and less than desirable service. There are very few that serve at a gourmet level which is a shame being Peruvian food is so renowned for it's cuisine. Finally, O'Lima is a restaurant that brings quality ingredients and a more gourmet experience with good service. We were delightfully surprised and look forward to returning.

Yelp
I walk pass this restaurant all the time and finally decided to treat myself to their advertised special. Unfortunately I came in the evening (because I was fasting) and was told that the special was only during lunch hours. Fortunately enough, the staff was kind enough to allow me to order the advertised special and honor the lunch price. What a blessing! The restaurant was very clean and comfortable (post the COVID reopening). The chicken was delicious!!! You can taste all of the juices and marinades in every bite. I would definitely recommend and frequent again.
google avatar

Sara L.

Yelp
Food is good and the wine prices are pretty affordable. We did find a piece of plastic in the food but they were nice enough to take it off the bill lol the place got really busy for dinner so service started to get really bad at the end.
google avatar

Daniel R.

Yelp
O'lima has fantastic food quality and they specialize in fusing Italian, Peruvian and Chinese to create something a touch out of the usual in Peruvian cuisine. The prices here are a bit higher than normal. Street parking is your only option at the moment. It bothers me a bit to rate it at 3 stars but there were issues with the visit and I can't overlook them. First there was no soap in the bathroom and no paper towels in the main sink. During a pandemic this should be kept after. On the plus side they did have sanitizer but only because we asked for it. Service was extremely slow. Even though our waiter did admit they were understaffed, I have seen quite a few complaints about this and certainly not something you would want on a weekend. It gives a bad impression regardless of how good the good is. Work on this before it becomes a major issue. Moving on to the food I had the fiocchi and papas a la huancaina. Both impressive quality and very fresh tasting. Standout flavours that are sure to impress. Menu is pretty extensive. Staff was very helpful with questions.

Yelp
I am a huge peruvian food fan and was excited to dine here with 2 other couples on a Saturday evening. They had outdoor seating and accommodated for 6. The service initially seemed promising but quickly proved less than stellar. We had to ask multiple times to order drinks, have drinks refilled, to order appetizers. They did not reveal they had a miami spice menu until we stumbled upon it which seemed like a strange thing not to mention. Ultimately we didn't eat from the spice menu since it really didn't seem to represent their best options. Our table shared both apps and entrees family style and while we ultimately were full when we left I cant say I was blown away by the food. To top it off the women's bathroom was disgusting and totally neglected in maintenance. That was a complete turn off. I will give one of the servers an A for effort after we asked for a cocktail they don't usually make but he looked it up and with what he had behind the bar made something pretty comprable which we appreciated. Overall, cant say we will be rushing back.

Tanya S.

Yelp
This definitely isn't worth the price.. we ordered two meals for lunch with an appetizer and was charged $94.. we got no utensils or anything. The sauce was spilled all inside the bag and the portion size was ridiculous. For $47 sea bass and $26 mahi we got more soy sauce than anything in the plate. Customer service didn't even try to understand or help it was a simple no no.
google avatar

Danila D.

Yelp
Solid 4+. Great ceviches, seafood pasta, and tiraditos. Cocktails are also spot on. A bit slow but during covid this is okay. We will come back again.
google avatar

Tamerlan G.

Yelp
Tried it for Miami,m spice appetizers pretty good , entrees were so so and the desert also good if you like Peruvian food and are in the area I would recommend stopping by for a quick lunch

Rene J.

Yelp
Awesome beautifully decorated Peruvian cuisines Try the espresso Martini made with Grand Brulot cognac espresso. The causa was awesome as was great and the parihuela innovative in its taste and presentation a improvement on classic

PL V.

Yelp
I've tried Peruvian food at several different restaurants in the Miami area being Peruvian. Went to O'lima for the first time since I had heard great things about it and I was not disappointed! Got the Ceviche Carretillero and it was absolutely amazing. It actually tasted like a ceviche you would get in Peru, which is hard to find here! Definitely will be back.

Lana ..

Yelp
The food is tolerable, but we left with a very sour feeling after we were charged 20% gratuity for a dinner for 2. The service was adequate, but definitely didn't deserve the full 20%, and what gives them the right to just charge us anything other than what we ordered? I would never return and wouldn't recommend this place.

Yelp
Thought I'd go and support a local restaurant couple of blocks from my house, You can tell by the one star how my experience was! We Sat there and fiddled our thumbs for about 15 minutes before they asked us if We wanted water. Since I could tell they were taking super long... Not like the place was busy on this post pandemic Saturday night. I asked for water called the lady back and also asked for a beer as she speed away, after waiting about another 10 minutes I didn't get anything. So we walked out! First impressions are everything or not recommend this place nor go there again

Nicole P.

Yelp
This restaurant used to be one of my favorites in miami. Have gone twice recently and never going back. New management is terrible. The waiters are terrible, service is bad they treat you disrespectfully, they forgot half our food. We waited until closing time without out half the tables food served and then they said the kitchen was closed when we had placed our order hours ago. Then on top of EVERYTHING they charged us 18% tip...not deserved at all after the terrible service and treatment we got. Several tables around us were very dissatisfied as well. Definitely should not come I will not ever go back and neither will any of the people in my party. MAKE SURE TO READ RECENT REVIEWS BEFORE GOING! WENT DOWN HILL RECENTLY WITH NEW MANAGEMENT!

Yelp
I discovered this restaurant through my job and was blown away. How did I not know of this restaurant? I understand that they opened a year and a half ago. The restaurant is on Bay Harbor Island--for those geographically challenged--it is between the North Miami Broad Causeway off NW 125th Street & Bal Harbour. Food: Not your typical Peruvian fare but a fusion of Peruvian and Japanese cuisine with a touch of happy culinary accidents. The result is very tasty dishes and seasoning that works. Try the tiraditos, ceviches or the lomo saltado inspired by beef stroganoff. Simply delicious! Service: Attentive, professional & well-informed in the menu & dishes. Don't you love when the wait staff comes to your table to refill water, clear dishes and bring the other courses at just the right time. Parking: Street parking is FREE after 6pm on weekdays, which is fine because they are dinner only during the week. Valet parking available on weekends. Bar: I don't know enough about Pisco Sour to comment with much authority but my Cielo Andino Pisco Sour was good (if you is sweeter drinks you'll like this). Overall I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Because I am tired of the same ol' Peruvian food everywhere else. And it's refreshing to try reinvented Peruvian classics.

Yelp
So, last night before Mother's Day , we decided to go somewhere local. We popped up in Lima. During our stay, I was offered wine from the whole bottle we ordered once only. We were poring it ourselves pretty much. Ceviche was salty , so that you actually feel it. Oh, then the bill. Had to call on another waiter to call our waiter for the check. Our waiter never came but the one we asked brought a bill with $100 more with things we haven't ordered. Finally , our waiter came since we told them the bill is wrong and they just placed the correct one including their tip already. For what service exactly? When I asked for the tip to be taken off, the waiter became rude and practically said don't come back then if you don't like it. No manager at dinner time or they lied there wasn't one when we asked. Horrible, horrible, horrible! For small community, don't know how this Business is still there. And ya, never going there again.

Jennifer P.

Yelp
We had such a great evening at O'Lima. The food was to die for especially the Peruvian Maki and the salmon with passion fruit! The more traditional dishes were amazing as well tallerin verde and limp Salgado are among the best we've had. Great service as well!
