Olive & Artichaut

"Originally from Nice, the chef moved back to the region with his Breton wife after several stints abroad. He showcases local ingredients in knockout recipes, inspired by the sea and the mountains: pissaladière-style wafer-thin tart with roast black pudding, braised chuck veal with creamy chickpeas and a chocolate and hazelnut praline pie to finish." - Michelin Inspector

Was quite excited that I could get a table at this place after hearing many glowing recommendations. Place is quite small, trendy dining type thing, and they got a mention in a recent Michelin Guide I ordered the 5 course taster because why not. The issue: It seems I picked my day badly because it was the birthday of the chef'sother, or something like that. A big table had been booked with 4 children ages around 8 to 12, who were yelling, running around the place, and in general just causing a ruckus. I don't believe these types of establishments should necessarily be kept child-free. Two other tables around me had children and there was no issue, but these ones were getting up every minute, running around the restaurant, yelling, getting in fights, etc. I spent about 3h in there and the ambience was reminiscent of a birthday party a chuck e cheese more than any sort of dining establishment you want to spend your time in. After an hour I wished I would have just ordered a single course so I could leave earlier. Since these were the chef's children, none of the staff seemed to intervene or tell them to just sit down and be a bit quieter. Whole thing costed me around $100 euros with drinks. I don't go out in this sort of fancier establishment too much, and I was ready to splurge for my night in Nice. Felt completely ripped off. Whatever the quality of the food, the experience was just downright unpleasant. I don't know how often this sort of stuff happens, maybe 99% of the time this is not an issue, but in my case my night was ruined and I felt like my $100-so euros was wasted Would not recommend, I would have been better served by any one of the overpriced tourist traps on the waterfront

Google
The mains tasted outstanding and from another world. Probably the best Risotto I ever had. The tuna tartar has also been a great starter that did not last long. Needless to say that I will recommend it to friends and family.

Google
We did a good bit of research on dining places in Nice. Olive seemed to be on everyone’s list. I can see why. The service was pleasant. The vib is cute. The food was wonderful.

Google
We chose the surprised menu design by the chef , to be honest, not really so tasteful and quite blend ,the fish is even overly done and slightly burned ! MAYBE we should have chosen the bib gourmand menu … The service is also quite cold except the guy is bit normal , the young girl is singing and whistle as at home and broke the glass 2 times ! No apologies and also not friendly , don’t take their job seriously I felt ! Later we saw the chef and he didn’t greet any of us just wondering around , I guess they maybe too proud to greet new customers!

Google
The restaurant is very small and usually fully booked for dinner. If you're looking to dine in, make sure to arrive early, as there might be some availability. Overall, the food was very tasty, and the service was good. However, the drink menu didn’t offer many options. The desserts were delicious, but a little more effort would make them as impressive as the main courses and appetizers. I wasn’t expecting to be asked for a tip, but it didn’t feel great when it happened.

Google
Visited this charming place for lunch today. I was able to get a last minute lunch reservation by luck. We had their lunch special for 39 euros. Amazing Deal! Had an appetizers, entrees and desserts. Not bad for a Michelin restaurant in Nice, France. One of my favorites so far on our 18 day trip around France. Literally a Gem!!

Google
Was lucky to get a last min / same day reservation. Had to seat at the bar to have a chance and try this Michelin star restaurant, but who cares. Rich in flavors, local/authentic sourcing, great atmosphere. Tried the set menu at quite an affordable price. Def give it a try…

Google
Abit of a let down by the service. No wine list offered and the risotto was slightly uncooked for asian taste. Service would have understood asian preferred their rice cooked well done not al dente. Guess Olive needs to learn these fine details to move up the level. That being said, the dishes were spot on. Chicken dish was excellent.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious, the food and service was great, I'd just recommend to sit inside as if you sit outside you will deal with lots of people walking by, my family and I got the 5 course meal and it was delicious and it's fills you up perfectly, I wouldn't say it's enough to make you "full" otherwise everything was amazing and I would absolutely recommend!!!

Yelp
Food was well presented. Server was cold, and acted like she didn't want to be there. Bathroom- (one small, unisex, usually a line) needed attention. No paper, not clean. As Anthony Bourdain taught us- if the restroom is bad.... But, the worst part is that in many years of traveling to France, this is the only restaurant that requests a tip on the hand held point of sale. Total faux pas in France. Service is always included! It's a law. Asking for a tip is considered rude by the French, and this restaurant knows that, but will try anyway. PASS. Too many great places to go.

Yelp
Small kitchen in a multiple Michelin Award winning old town restaurant. Lucky to get a seat at the bar. Should get reservations as line at door when it opened at 7:00PM. Did fois gras with fig and wife did eggplant appetizers that were delicious. We both did the Boulabaise fish plate (White fish/Scallop) with potatoes that absorbed the crazy good sauce. Fun watching the kitchen work as they are orchestrated in everything they do. Thanks to Le Panier for suggesting.

Yelp
Not sure if it rises up to Michelin star restaurant, food is ok, staff hygiene issue, they eat, they touch their hair, chefs touch the fish then touches other cooked food. Ambiance is simple. Wine pairing was not favorable to me.

Yelp
Food is 10/10, every bite was delicious. In the heart of Old Nice on a busy walkway. The braised beef is recommended.

Yelp
Michelin star restaurant. Came with a reservation for a weeknight dinner which is highly recommended. Service was friendly and timely. It is a small intimate setting inside. They have plenty of two person seating and bar seating. We had the bib gourmand menu for 33 euros which is appropriately priced. The salad, risotto and chocolate cake were all good quality and flavorful. Overall I would recommend trying at least once!

Yelp
Best food! We got the set meal. The chicken was the star and the risotto was killer. The staff were so accommodating and the place was adorable! 10/10 loved it !

Yelp
What a fun small gem in Nice! Thanks to our hotel concierge for recommending this for our first night out. The restaurant is small, with an open kitchen right as you walk in with 3 chefs cooking for the restaurant. We opted for the tasting menu which I would recommend, as this gives you a taste of a number of the menu highlights. Everything was delicious with seasonal ingredients and executed well. Standouts were the butternut squash veloute with croutons, chestnuts and foie gras, butternut squash risotto with hazelnuts and Parmesan emulsion, red mullet and scallops in bouillabaisse, and the pear 3-ways dessert.

Yelp
Cute little restaurant in the old town of nice. Food was amazing and service was as well. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
We had a wonderful meal here. Every dish was superb. Lovely interior. Great wine. You can choose the Bib gourmand menu items or a la carte but either way it's a great value. Desserts were incredible as well.

Yelp
Delicious restaurant that has a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin guide. This is both an affordable place to eat and a high quality meal. It's pretty down to earth here as well. I believe they change their menu up a bit to keep it fresh. The food came out pretty fast and everything we had tasted great. Located not too far from the beach area you will find this place, don't be afraid to venture off the beaten path to get here as you will enjoy your meal at this awesome restaurant.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. The owner is very hands on and I can't wait to return. One of the best in Ild Town

Yelp
Not sure there is a better bang for your buck anywhere. I'd definitely recommend reserving ahead, even on weekends. The open kitchen and tight space adds to its quaint ambiance.

Yelp
This was the best meal I had in Nice. It's situated in a small street within Old Nice, and had a daily special menu where you get an entree, main and dessert. I opted for this because the options included porcetta, braised veal and panna cotta- yes pls!! They were all incredibly delicious, and at 33 euros, very generously sized. The braised veal was incredible, but as I was eating, I could smell the seared steak that was being cooked nearby, and wanted to order that too! The staff are very friendly here, and attentive. The atmosphere is warm, cozy and just the right temperature, with none of the nonsense of loud, unmatched music that you often find when traveling.

Yelp
This is a small, quaint, restaurant located just outside of Place Rosetti in the heart of Old Town, Nice. We stumbled upon this place casually walking back from Castle Hill and feel very lucky to have found it that day. Apparently there is one day a year where 2000 restaurants and 2000 chefs partake in honoring French cuisine by putting out a tasting menu with French food only (Goût de France 2017). Top chefs like Alain Ducasse are included in the list of chefs that participate in the event. Somehow, we were able to get a reservation on this day. The place was loaded with locals and they all were nice enough to engage in conversation with me when I walked in earlier that day to make the reservation. Each of them swore this restaurant was the best in all of Nice. I really couldn't disagree. I don't even know what to call the appetizers, except that they reminded me of baby empañadas stuff with duck. Very good. There was a pork entrée that I wasn't as big of a fan of, but still good. The final entrée was lamb. As big fans of lamb, Talia and I both agree this was the best lamb we've ever had (yes, that includes Manhattan's Halal Guys). The side dish was basically a few potato chips inflated into eatable balloons. I don't know how they did it, but it was cool and tasted good too. The lamb sat on a bed of asparagus which was cooked PERFECTLY. Seriously, if this dish was meant to honor French cuisine than the French should be very proud. There were two Spanish guitar players who were walking around to each table playing and singing songs which was very fun and created a cool atmosphere. Finally, I told the waiter that my wife and I were recently married. The chef personally came out of the kitchen to let me play our wedding song throughout the restaurant via his Spotify account! Despite slightly embarrassing Talia, we got up and danced to our song in the front of the kitchen as the staff watched on and made us feel like this was normal lol. All in all, Olive & Artichaut was a great restaurant and great experience. Staff was super friendly, food was close to perfect, atmosphere was exactly what you'd expect from a small, family owned restaurant in the heart of the historic old town of Nice.

Yelp
The staff here is lovely and warm. Despite our error in showing up a day early for our reservation, they were able to accommodate us (reserve for lunch right at noon when they open!). We sat in the back at a lovely corner table. We had to pass on the full 3-course experience, which we realize is atypical in France at a restaurant like this, but we've been eating so much on our trip to Nice! We did order food and dessert, even though we were stuffed after the food, olives and bread :) The risotto was incredible. It was perfectly al dente and had a great sauce ratio on the bottom (not too much, just enough) to compliment the dish. The positive reviews are right on- I appreciate others' input to lead us here. The place filled up about a half hour after opening, so again, make those reservations, weeks in advance.

Yelp
While visiting Nice with friends we were looking for a nice dinner and explore local culture and this restaurant was just extraordinary. Let's begin with the atmosphere, the restaurant is small, but very cozy and decorations that make it feel just right. When we arrived there was one table free but I believe generally they recommend making a reservation. Once we were seated our server began a night of great service. Even though the menu is entirely in French and none of us spoke the language our waiter went item by item explaining the options and giving us recommendations. But the great service does not stop there, our server kept very close track of our glasses to make sure we were always ok. Other than impeccable service, the food itself was out of this world. We all ordered different dishes and each dish was perfectly crafted with just the right balance of flavors. In the end not only was the food great, but the price is also affordable for the quality you get. We ordered appetizers, main dish, digestive, a dessert and wine and it came to around 35 euros per person. Overall, this place is a must visit one of my best experiences ever.

Yelp
Really phenomenal meal. We dined here on our third night in Nice and had two great dinners prior to this, but Olive&Artichaut was the best. Great food, great wine, great service. We had: - beef tartare - excellent although it's very finely ground FYI - risotto with cepes mushrooms and au jus- unreal, maybe the best risotto I've ever had - chicken breast with potatoes and vegetables - sounds simple but was incredible - strawberries, raspberries, meringue, chantilly, and sorbet for dessert (unreal with the in-season berries) Nice was the first part of a 6 week tour of France for my wife and I, where food will be a major focus... I wouldn't be surprised if Olive& is near the top of the list (even with 3 weeks in Paris coming later.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this gem on our last night in France. Luckily we walked up as they were opening and was seated right away. Had we been 30mins later we wouldn't have been able to experience the great food and service! I would highly recommend and make sure to make a reservation to be safe Note worthy for the foodies out there: Michelin Guide 2018 Bib Gourmand: good quality, good value cooking: £28 / 40 € (IRE) 'Bibs' are awarded for simple yet skilful cooking for under £28 or €40. One word: Magnifique!

Yelp
Amazing meal here last night. First dinner in Nice staff was attentive and walked thru each dish. The cuisine was spot on and cooked perfectly. Would recommend highly to stop in.

Yelp
I had this restaurant recommended to me on my flight from L.A. to Vienna. When my seat mate found out I was transferring on to Nice through Vienna, she told me to make sure and have dinner here. This is easily one of the best meals I have ever had. I have been blessed to have visited every continent except Antarctica now, and have visited a plethora of different countries on those continents to which I have traveled. I can honestly say Olive & Artichaut is one of the most memorable culinary experiences I have had. Keep up the good work, staff. And I will be back.

Yelp
I think I just ate the best piece of meat I have ever had in France! Even better I shared it with my family... This place is really a gem in France, our waiter was great, the food was exceptional... We came here for my wife's BD and we will be back, I tried since 3 months to get the reservation match our schedule and finally for this event I got lucky, trust me I was not disappointed! Great place

Yelp
Awesome place to eat in Nice's old city. It's not your usual touristy place, this is filled with locals and normally packed. That in and of itself should tell you a lot. Incredible food, fantastic ambiance, great beer (try the craft beers from La Brasserie Artisanale de Nice), great cocktails, delicious wine and very friendly and patient service. Dishes are very well composed. The fish and the meat are fabulous, but the veggies are awe-inspiring. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Yelp
Under whelmed. Mediocre but not worthy of going out of your way. We had the foie gras and onion tartin with black pudding as starters. Both were good but went downhill fast with the entrees. We had the John Dory and veal. The veal was a bad cut- tough and way over cooked. Fish was okay, but nothing to write home about. We were uncomfortably warm as there wasn't any air conditioning or breeze at our table. Waitstaff was running around and busy, but seemed disorganized. We waited about 5 minutes just to be given a menu after sitting down and no one checked in after entrees were served. Waitress was sweet when she was there, but this was our least favorite dinner in Nice. We were anxious to get the check so we could cool off outside.

Yelp
My favorite place in Nice! The food is fantastic and the experience is amazing. We sat in the front and could see the chefs preparing and cooking our meal. Service is excellent! The place is very beautiful, but a bit small and gets booked quite fast. I suggest making reservations in advance!

Yelp
A fantastic little restaurant in old town Nice. I had the braised lamb shank, which was fall off the bone tender and intensely flavorful. My friend had the off-menu daily special, which was a lobster pasta... Mind-blowingly delicious! I only had two bites, but that is one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. Between the delicious (and giant) foie starter and my lamb, we didn't make it to dessert. But from looking at other tables, it looked great as well.
google avatar

Yelp
We had a great dinner here our last night in Nice. We got a great bottle of Bordeaux to start and ordered the house made terrine of foie gras. Literally, if you do nothing else, go to Olive & Artichaut for this terrine. It was the singular best thing we ate in France. The foie gras, plus the toasted bread, plus the fig and walnut compote was divine. For our entrees we got the pan fried sea bass and the grilled lamb. Both were very good, but seriously after the terrine, nothing could compare. One of the things about this place that I must note is the service. High quality service isn't the norm in France when dining out, but here, people checked in on us pretty regularly which was very appreciated.

Yelp
Unbelievable experience. All the staff were nice and Bruce the server was knowledgable, welcoming, funny, but not overbearing. I had the fixed menu- appetizer was raw tuna and a small salad. Main course was veal so tender you could cut w a fork and finely whipped and light mashed potatoes with veggies. Desert was amazing forgot the name, but delicious. Wife had the risotto with prosciutto. She also loved her meal. A++ restaurants like these are the ones that make me love trying to new things.
google avatar

Yelp
Another favorite of our trip- be sure to make a reservation, almost every night of our trip they were full and turning people away. Exceptional food, fantastic service. I loved being able to watch the staff cook behind the bar.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant tucked away in the Old City of Nice. Delicious French food with a modern twist, fresh Mediterranean vibes, and lovely people working there. I was there with a group of four and we spent the whole night arguing whose dinner was better, a definite place to go if you're in Nice.

Suzanne D.

Yelp
Great hidden cosy modern style gem in the old city of Nice. Way more than your average pedestrian restaurant in these parts. Food was incredible, which is cooked by chef in front of you from open kitchen. Was well worth the wait for the main course, a special chicken dish. Wine list superb. Plus the food is gourmet French......

Ingrid F.

Yelp
Our experience here was very enjoyable. The atmosphere was great, the staff superb, and the food even better. Highly recommend.

Richard B.

Yelp
Best meal in Nice! Friendly service and excellent food. Worth seeking out the somewhat hidden location.

Mari K.

Yelp
Super unfriendly waitresses. Issue is that they have a very tight time slot to finish the dinner, you need to finish starters within 15 minutes. We had to adapt our dinner time to their business time because new clients have a reserved table 1.5 hours after ours - how can someone finish a 3 course menu in a relaxed environment like this!! I wanted to have a steak and they refused because of the cooking and time. We were forced to finish our bottle of wine within 1 hour. Very disappointing and very unfriendly. Customer experience is not a business.

Yelp
Soup and fillet were splendid!!! Excellent place with wonderful service... I would like to point out the open kitchen which a delight to look into :-) exceptional place i recommend on dining in

Yelp
Everything was impeccable. I had the lamb twice in one week, which I never do. All the details were well thought out. Please make sure to make a reservation. By far one of my favorite restaurants. Please keep in mind I travel a lot and love to eat. This place is fantastic!

Yelp
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT! Nice quite little restaurant in old town nice, excellent food and service. I literally had the best chocolate fondant of my life at this place. AND I've had many in my life!! /Swedish chocolate lover
