The owner contacted me regarding my review and apologized and offered me to come give the restaurant a second try on the house. I asked to try the spicy honey, spicy mayo, and the chicken sandwiches. They were very kind and even added in bone-out chicken pieces, as well as a poutine. The customer service was great and the employees were attentive to our order.
The chicken sandwich was very good, the chicken itself was very juicy and a generous size/amount. The spicy honey was very good. While we got it on the side, it went very well on the sandwich and with the boneless chicken. Chicken tasted much more flavorful than the first time we went there, for all items. The first time we went, it felt like there was no flavour, but this time it felt like it was lightly seasoned, which allows it to go well with a variety of sauces and not clash. Both the spicy honey and spicy mayo paired well with the chicken. The chicken itself was also crispy while not feeling like there was too much of a breading. I am looking forward to going back to Olivia’s and getting a chicken sandwich with the spicy honey.
It's nice to see a business owner value the feedback of their customer and to make sure to provide customer satisfaction.
—> INITIAL REVIEW <—
After hearing about how the chicken here is amazing, I came here last week with my friend. I ordered two combos, both on one bill. Each combo is supposed to include a small side, a drink and the chicken pieces. Then the worker proceeded to say that they have no more small sides, for all side options, so we would have to pay extra to get a medium side. Why would I want to pay extra to get a larger version of a side that I don't want to, when the small one should be included in the price anyway? So we asked to make a deal where we would get 1 single onion ring serving to replace both our hypothetical small sides, and we even calculated the value would be cheaper than two single small sides combined. So she asked her co-worker (or manager? I am not sure) who hesitantly accepted and then when she finally did, she said to us "we don't usually do this" with some attitude. Excuse me, but usually when I go to a restaurant I don't order a combo and then have to pay additional costs to get a size upgrade of a side, that I didn't sign up for.
As for the food, the chicken is bland I wish it had some spices cooked into it. Not bad but just not flavourful or anything to rave about. The sweet spicy sauce that came with it was just ok. I did enjoy the onion rings, they are different, more breadcrumb style than batter style.
All-in-all, I'm not sure why this place is so highly spoken of.
