After a quick shopping trip around the Haight, my bf and I decided to come here for an early dinner. It was pretty quiet inside, but that was probably because it was 5pm. The Bollywood music videos on the TVs helped liven everything up. My only complaint is the faint sewage smell if you sit in the front room, the back room is a little better.
One thing I noticed right away is how good the service is. We sat at a table in the front room and my bf asked to have the seat further from the door since he didn't bring a jacket. Immediately, our server let us know that the back room was warmer and that she could seat us there instead. It was just a small detail that started the meal on a good note.
We ordered the vegetable pakora, paratha, dal makhani, butter chicken, and basmati rice. They brought us some papadums on the house to start, and it was my first time trying this. The light and crispy cracker was so flavorful and the variety of dipping sauces it came with were good. The butter chicken and rice was so good, the chicken was tender and the sauce was rich and comforting.
The paratha was good as a butter chicken delivery system as well. The veggie pakora was a huge portion, and it was so crispy and I really liked the flavor of the chickpea batter. It was not an expensive meal at all for 2 people, around $50 before tip with leftovers to take home. I'd definitely come back here the next time I'm in the area!
