My friend and I came to celebrate my birthday and Chef Lee made it a good and memorable experience. The 15 course meal was well worth its price. Each dish was fresh and prepared with skill. We even got additional Chutoro sushi after just because it was so delicious. The cheesecake basque was lovely as well. Would highly recommend. I’m definitely going back again with more people.

Google
Fantastic omakase experience. We went with the $49 Wed/Thu special (furikake edamame, 7 pieces of nigiri, 2 hand rolls). On top of that, we also got miso soup (made with a firmer tofu and also mochi to wrap up the meal. I got the spiced herbal tea (came with hot water refills) and it was absolutely delicious. The service was great. The meal was paced well. The staff was attentive. The food absolutely delicious. It’s not a big space, but it’s not crazy crowded. Tables are nicely space and the vibes are good. Not super loud so you can have a conversation. Didn’t feel rushed at all.

Had one of the best omakase experiences and I just got back from Japan! The quality was insane and for the competitive price, I was truly shocked. The manager Andrew was so kind and professional. The pacing of the omakase wasn’t too rushed or fast and the chef was so informative and nice. Cannot wait to go back! The best in Chicago if not the world!

Google
We got the $98 for 15-course (progressive) omakase and I would say it's pretty good. The flavor profile leans more intense and some of the combinations were unique (fermented bean paste + leek - this was a fun one). Chef Lee took care of us and he was very friendly and meticulous when he prepared our courses. I recommend this spot!

Google
Fresh and delicious sushi made in front of you. All the items are very delicious and the chef explains the ingredients of each sushi and wrap served. Happy hour is from 4:30pm to 6 pm.

Google
My partner and I went to Omakase Box yesterday evening and had an absolutely wonderful experience! The omakase was phenomenal (easily some of the best sushi I’ve ever had) and everyone was so warm and friendly. The way they describe themselves on their website (“elevated sushi, approachable vibes”) is exactly the experience you get, in the best possible way. It legitimately blows my mind that such a high quality 15-course omakase is only $98. I’ve had similar experiences of equal or even lesser quality for twice the price. Needless to say, this was the first of many visits to come! 😊

Google
The restaurant is currently BYO with a $20 bottle/$3 can fee. We enjoyed the A La Kase, which features 10 nigiri and a mini don buri. Presentation and flavor combinations were traditional, however we found balance to be inconsistent; some of the pieces with spice tended to overpower the fish with too much heat while the fattier cuts may have needed a little more soy or garnish to brighten the flavor. (Perhaps this is personal preference.) The handrolls had the perfect amount of rice to fish to seaweed ratio. Service is attentive. I expect the flow will only improve as they finesse some kinks. Solid overall experience.

Google
Came for the handroll happy hour which was a decent deal. It was good enough that we each got 2 sets of it. The only part we disliked was that the sushi rice was cold. Not even room temperature, more like fridge cold. Will be back to try the omakase.

Yelp
We had a great experience here! Our chef took the time to explain every course she prepared for us. It was my first omakase where each dish was explained so thoroughly. She even answered all our questions! Our favorite pieces were the nigiris with a smoky flavor. The last hand roll dish was also very memorable. I'd definitely come back again!

Yelp
Don't get me wrong, sushi is mid, but the price is not worth the quality. Pieces are small, and the hand rolls are also small. Lower the pricing by about 20% and it'll be a good value. Spent 200$ for three people and left super hungry.

Yelp
Serving seaweed on the side for the handrolls and the dropper of soy sauce was a gamechanger!! I feel like a lot of handrolls I've had got soggy fast but these were so delicious plus the fish was so fresh. I tried the toro, hamachi and spicy tuna and enjoyed them all. Nigiri were solid too- I didn't know it was customary to eat from lightest fish to more red ones, so that was fun to learn. Staff were exceptional and super kind, plus the prices were reasonable. We got their pre-fixed dinner for two this time but I'd go back to try their omakase.

Yelp
Social media advertising always gets me, and I saw an omakase deal from Omakase Box that I had to try out ($84/ for 2 people). Now I will say it wasn't actually omakase.....we got seated at a normal table (not the bar seats in front of the sushi chefs) and didn't actually see anyone making our food. However, the service was great (our server recommend their seasonal tea which was FAB), and the food was good as well. Sushi was fresh, although quite small. The hand rolls aren't the bigger cone shaped rolls I'm used to, so be warned if that's what you're looking for; it was basically just a piece of nigiri that you wrap yourself in seaweed paper.

Yelp
Ambiance - casual, modern decor, offers omakase counter and regular dine in tables Service - exceptional, our chef for omakase was detailed and timed everything really well Food - fish quality was amazing (love how innovative they are with flavors/toppings), some pieces were heavier on the wasabi

Yelp
We tried the 15-course omakase tasting as a group of four, and it was phenomenal. Each piece was perfectly dressed. Not drowned in sauces like some spots, and not left plain like others. Every bite hit that sweet spot of balance and precision that makes great sushi shine. After the tasting, we couldn't resist ordering a few extras from the à la carte hand-roll menu, and those were just as excellent. Fresh, crisp, and full of flavor. The chef was personable, funny, and engaging, taking time to explain the cuts and pairings, and the owner clearly knows his craft, bringing years of sushi experience to the table. For a 15-course omakase at this price, it's easily one of the best values in Chicago. The quality rivals higher-end spots, but the atmosphere is more relaxed and welcoming. All around, a fantastic evening. We're already planning our next visit to explore more of their à la carte offerings. Omakase Box is definitely joining our shortlist of favorite sushi experiences in the city.

Yelp
Upon a return visit, we were delighted to try the $84 Dinner for 2 (limited special) which allowed us to explore the menu. At our initial visit, we had the 15 course Omakase experience and as a sushi enthusiast, I nearly wept tears of joy at finally finding a worthy Chicago equivalent of my favorite LA sushi place. If you are looking for quantity, I recommend the AYCE Sushi Loop near Lincoln Square but if want a masterfully prepared, traditional Omakase experience brimming with exquisite umami, then this new & most welcome sushi eatery is your place. Service by the friendly, professional staff and engaging young owners/founders is exceptional. The serene & minimalist space is the perfect ambiance for a date/self care night. Bravo! It's definitely become my go-to sushi place in Chicago and I can't wait for future visits with friends & family to share the excellence that is Omakase Box.

Yelp
First review here!?!? Happy to set the tone then. My girlfriend and I came here to celebrate her birthday. They're BYOB until they get their liquor license and have a $20/bottle and $3/can corkage fee at the time of writing. If you're looking for your run of the mill maki or sushi roll experience, this place isn't for you, because they don't have them. They do have handrolls (taco style) and the ones we tried were amazing. The atmosphere is very modern with a touch of dark decor and elegance. The sushi bar is immediately to the right when you enter and is incredibly well lit, highlighting both the chefs and what I can only assume was a dry-aging box behind them that had many fish in it. They do all their omakase experiences here - which we wanted to book, but there weren't any more tickets available. We made due with a regular table and immediately noticed that instead of a traditional soy sauce bottle, they were using water droppers, which was a nice touch. FYI, if you're dowsing your sushi in soy sauce, you're doing it wrong! Now, when I say I know good quality sushi, I mean I can look at a cut of fish and tell you what it is (in both Japanese and English), what part of the fish it came from, and how many days it's been used for service. So when I say that this is easily the best, freshest, and most reasonably priced nigiri I've ever had, I mean it from the very bottom of my soul. The service was incredibly fast, yet perfectly timed. Everything was so delicious that I couldn't stop ordering nigiri pieces, and ended up ordering about 10 pieces total. The Hokkaido scallop and full fat tuna (Otoro) were absolutely to die for and I ordered both twice. They even took a special request for Hokkaido Uni (sea urchin) + Ikura (salmon roe) which was absolutely perfect. Everyone that came to our table was friendly, professional and showed us their best hospitality. Considering how great everything was so soon after a grand opening, this place will be a powerhouse in the neighborhood if it catches on. I for one, will be coming here as often as I can to see how they evolve with access to more seasonal sushi.

Yelp
Incredible quality fish and service! Was blown away by the different variation of fish, some I have never heard of

Yelp
LOVEEEE the wrappers on the hand rolls! Enjoy hand rolls fresh every time!! Love the soy sauce droppers as well. Makes eating enjoyable and seaweed will not be left soggy! Detailed menu and will return to try the omakase next time! It is BYOB at the moment and hope they will have their liquor license soon! Great addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
This place has such a cool ambiance. With it's black wood slats, it's so modern. The food and the service were beyond amazing! We had the 11 piece omakase each bite tastier than the last. It was almost as good as Kyoten Next Door, but for a fraction of the price. They gave us an eye dropper for soy sauce, but we didn't need it. We also got two hand rolls and I love that they have the nori separate so it doesn't get soggy. The Negi Toro hand roll is a MUST! So good! They have great saki's too. The service was wonderful. Desta was very attentive and knowledgeable about the food and drinks. We will most definitely be back soon!

Charlie K.

Yelp
Absolutely great experience! One of the best omakases in the city...right up there with Kyoten but at a much more accessible price point. Great chef who was friendly, offered great guidance throughout and very conversational. We booked again before this place becomes too hard to get into.

Shobha N.

Yelp
My new favorite elevated sushi spot. The omakase counter looked amazing, but they have the best a la carte nigiri selection I have ever had in this city. I've been to pretty much every omakase spot and many of the upscale sushi spots in this town and I would say you get pieces of nigiri a la carte that are the level of the high end omakase spots but you can just booking a Dining room spot and do it (and the pricing is so reasonable). Service is great, they are so sweet and fun. The ambiance is lovely. Not too loud or echoey, tables are private enough you won't have to hear everybody's conversation.
