The Best Ice Cream Shops in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Ome Calli, which means “two house” in the indigenous Mexican language Nahuatl, is a nod to the owners’ two homes: Oregon and Mexico. The Beaverton shop’s frozen desserts, then, blend the best of both, using Oregon fruit to recreate flavors sold at the founder’s Mexico City heladería. The shop’s mildly sweet corn ice cream, salty-creamy cotija, and delicate mamey are all standouts, but Ome Calli’s sherbets — velvety scoops of guava, chamoy, soursop, and tamarind-chile — are absolute must-orders." - Michelle Lopez

19 Beaverton Restaurants Making the Portland Suburb a Dining Destination

"This Mexican ice cream stop stands out on Canyon Road with its brightly painted exterior and Aztec mural, serving classic flavors as well as paletas packed with Latin American fruit like guanabana, zapote, guava, and mango. Pick from the menu or just peer into the refrigerated cases at the counter and see which frozen treat appeals. Ome Calli also makes a Mexican specialty, chamoyada: A styrofoam cup, rimmed with lime juice and chile powder, filled with shaved ice, a whole paleta, and a hearty dose of chamoy, a salty, sour sauce made from pickled plums and chile powder. Pulparindo, Tama Roca, and other tamarind candies come on the side." - Krista Garcia, Janey Wong

Google
Delicious ice cream friendly costumer service Their frozen bananas are delicious 🤤.

Google
I had a chance to go on a sunny day and try these frozen treats. I ended up ordering the cookies and cream and the mango flavor. And truly they were both pretty good. Definitely felt fresh and not processed. I’d say it was actually pretty creamy and rich. I want to say the scoops were generous with the size, but I feel like most places are that size of a scoop. This place is good, the flavors are tasty and it seems to be pretty clean. It’s just the pricing for me isn’t worth it. What you get for three scoop is what I could get at Baskin Robbins for a banana split with a whole bunch of toppings and three different flavored ice cream. I could also get one scoop of ice cream for The price that I would get a banana Royale which includes a full banana three toppings of your choosing and two ice cream scoops. My point is this place isn’t bad but pricing is just too high in my opinion.

Google
A very different ice cream place, with a Mexican flavor. You'll be a little intimidated with the choices when you walk in. Because other than ice cream, there are frozen drinks, popsicles etc. My daughter just wanted to get traditional ice cream. But my husband and I went with the spicy popsicles -mango chili and pineapple chili. I loved the spicy mango popsicle. I wouldn't want to get just traditional ice cream here but would love to try out more of what they have to offer. P.S. They also have little claw machines etc if that's your jam!

Google
I rated 3/5 stars because the service was kind ! But the Jello dairy free (lime and pineapple) were a little too expensive for it to not be tht good. The dairy ones were tasty I got horchata and caramel recommend !

Google
I really like the popsicles and want to try the icecream soon. The watermelon, bubblegum, and cookies and cream popsicles are great. The pecan and pineapple were just okay. They’re a little expensive at $3.50 each but they are a nice treat. Some had a lot of ice covering them since they are not in sealed bags.

Google
Overwhelmingly yummy treats. Got ice cream and corn even though I came for paletas. Sure there are dairy free options but when I read that their chocolate is a homemade dark and milk chocolate blend I was willing to pay the price. It was worth it. Probably getting 2 scoops next time (be careful though the scoops aren't small they fill the entire cone).

Google
Always a great experience. Every time I go I try something new and I’m never disappointed. Service is quick, even on busy weekends. Staff is polite. Love all the treats. Could maybe use more seating.

Google
Ome Calli serves delicious traditional Mexican treats and is located on Canyon Rd in Beaverton a few blocks from BG’s Food Cartel. I loved the Lime and Mango Chomayada with chili. A Chomayada is a traditional Mexican slushy drink that’s both sweet and spicy.

Yelp
Can be a little overwhelming (in the best way) so many delicious options. We were able to order quickly as there was no one in line due to the cloudy weather (my assumption). No sitting available/be aware of limited sitting. But it's close to the food cart area/max station. Bilingual family friendly patient staff. Limited flavor tasting (one per person). But all the flavors were delicious! Daughter got bubble gum, and horchata. And I got a chamoyada (delicious!!!)

Yelp
So I have always been a fan of Mexican "Helado". The ice cream is always extra creamy and delicious. I had previously been to the shop on Main Street in Hillsboro near Shute Park, but this place blew my mind. So I got the rum raisin ice cream in a waffle cone. It was really good. Honestly I would have been ok if it had a little more rum flavor, but it's a family establishment, I get it. So my wife and daughter both got the tropical fruit slush, spicy and non-spicy. Somehow they got flipped and my daughter got the spicy version. She wasn't pleased but she ate the popsicle that was dunked in it and she gave me the slush. My mouth was not expecting the flavor explosion that it was in for. The mixture of the fruity flavor and the not too spicy hit was amazing. I never had tried it before, but I was quite happy.

Yelp
Saturday 9/23/23 Was in the mood for some ice cream and decided to have Yelp help me find the best and closest spot to me which to led me here. They had a variety of flavors but I was only given a 1 sample limit which is definitely different but it is what it is. I ended up getting a 3 scoop cup of cookies n cream (which was the flavor I sampled) for $9.50. The cookies n cream was different than the usual and it wasn't very good as a result (just okay). Personally, $9.50 for 3 ice cream scoops is a lil more on expensive side. Maybe I got the wrong item or flavor but after my experience I can't see myself returning.

Yelp
Enjoyed this ice cream shop and all of its authentic Mexican offerings. My kids got a cookies and cream and we grabbed some fruit bars. All delicious.

Yelp
Such good treats! We got a mango and raspberry popsicle. We also got a delicious chocolate ice cream. Service was wonderful. I wish there was seating inside.

Yelp
Very refreshing and flavorful options to satisfy your sweet tooth. Interior was spacious and clean. There was benches outside so you can enjoy your treats as well. The service was friendly and answered all of our questions and gave suggestions as well. The only downside was that they only limited us to one sample per person. With so many different and unique ice cream flavors and being our first time there, it was difficult to decide what to order.

Yelp
When places some fancy ice cream places have lines out the door and all kinds of crazy stuff going on, it's nice to go to a good old fashioned ice cream shop. Plenty of choices. Friendly staff. Fair prices. And walking distance from the Bigi Food Cartel.
google avatar

Giovanna S.

Yelp
This was my first time coming here with my boyfriend. When we both walked in the service was top tier! They made us feel at home and the food samples were amazing!! (I know one person but I wanted to try everything haha!) The feeling of being in that place made me feel like I was back at home in Mexico. Ambiance was so welcoming! Will be coming here again and again!

Yelp
A lively, vibrant frozen treat spot that gets even livelier on a hot day. Lots of options from ice cream, to paletas, to fun drinks. Many unique variety for the ice cream itself. Sampled a few flavors and finally went with the Double Scoop of Corn and Strawberry in a Waffle Cone. A lot of their flavors sort of tasted just like vanilla (like the Corn and Toasted Marshmellow) but the creaminess of their ice cream is pretty great. The Strawberry was very refreshing. Their cone was also some of the freshest that I've hard; nice and crunchy. All in all, the ice cream I got were good enough for me to want to come back at some point. They also got fun sundaes to mix things up as well.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Delicious ice cream and treats. Cute shop. Definitely will try again when we're in the area.

Yelp
Sadly went in hoping to get my Mangoneda fix....But no can do. They have something like it but pretty much icee sugar water with tahini powder and they said chamoy or tamarind but I don't see either or taste either? Super disappointing but they did have some fresh fruit bars made in house so not a total failure and it was good!!

Yelp
Ice cream is great on a hot day. Whenever I walk into in an ice parlor it takes me back to being a kid. We went in to get a nice treat on a Friday afternoon, and the coolness of the ice cream did it's job. The selection is plenty, more than I expected. My staple is vanilla, you can judge any ice cream parlor by their vanilla. It has to have a thick, creamy old fashioned flavor. This one was almost there, it lacked the deep flavor that I tend to love. The other ice creams were ok, but more "icey" than cream. The sherbert had great flavor but also tended to be more on the shaved ice side than sherbert side. The customer service was par at best. You're not going to get that happy kid going out for ice cream feeling from them. It's business, what do you want and here's your cup. No frills. I tried to engage a little more to lighten the mood and could not get a smile from my server. Oh well, everyone has a bad moment. I would say it's a good stop if you're in the area.

Yelp
Soooo darn good! I have been here about 10 times and I always walk away happy. They have over 24 flavors of handmade ice cream and unique Latin flavors you aren't going to find anywhere else. They also have handmade ice cream bars you can take home and put in your freezer.

Yelp
Ome Calli has become our regular go-to spot, and what keeps us coming back, besides the delicious ice cream (lime, horchata, nutella), is their exceptional customer service. Every visit, we're warmly welcomed, and they make sure we leave satisfied. It's proof that you get what you pay for here - a great experience every time!

Yelp
I was greeted with kindness, offered samples of flavors, and there are so many options, all of which have been well thought out and are homemade. I tried the cotija and Mamey flavors, but ended up getting chipotle chocolate in a cone. The ice cream texture was perfect, creaminess, density and with small inconsistencies that reminded me it was homemade. The chipotle chocolate had a nice kick and plenty of chocolate flavor. My mom got the lime chamoyada, which also had a lil kick, was crazy refreshing, and had a beautiful consistent texture. The store is cute, fantastic summertime stop.
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
My hubby just recently took me here and WOW is it delicious! So many unique flavors you won't find anywhere else! All the ice creams are creamy and delicious (and homemade!), but they also have sherbets, gelatinas, and popsicles! If you're in the area I really recommend giving this place a try!
google avatar

Jeanette G.

Yelp
They have some of the most amazing flavors at this place. My so. Talked me into the tequila flavored ice cream and it was so delicious and refreshing! Friendly service, too! We will be back!
google avatar

Xichen J.

Yelp
This place offers Mexican Ice Cream at a very reasonable price. Parking is available next to the store, which itself is located within walking distance from BG Food Cartel, which is a food cart pod. The staff are friendly and the selection of flavors is vast. They even have popsicles and milkshakes.
google avatar

Pauline T.

Yelp
The selection here is very unique and there are so many available options. I had a great experience and the staff was very friendly. I very much enjoyed by chamoyada that had so many extra toppings including a popsicle of your choosing! Fun fact, they have a tequila flavored ice cream. So... run, don't walk. Definitely coming back if I'm in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Everyone has their own preference on ice cream, and I can see the appeal of Ome, even if it's not what I prefer. The display cases are clean and full of many varieties and flavors. You are limited to one sample per person, so don't go in expecting to try a bunch of them. Some of the flavors are very non-traditional, as far as "American" ice cream is concerned. But this is not traditional-it's more adventurous. I had the mango ice cream and found that the flavor was subtle-not as strong as some other ice creams or sorbets I've had. The consistency is also a little different. Not bad, just...different.

Yelp
The first time that I tried this was at a Yelp Elite event, and after trying some of their signature items (ice cream and also a Chamoyada), I knew that I was destined to come back. Looking at some of these reviews, I have spotted that the less than 5 star ratings comes from people who feel like the flavor/texture is not what they expected, and this is slightly confusing to me. I love all sorts of ice creams, and know that "cream" is in the name, but as these are not "traditional American" ice cream flavors and methods, I am not sure why there is an expectation that they taste and feel the same. I love tropical fruit, and as someone who has had many a poor knock off of SE Asian fruits (mangosteen, soursop, etc.), I think Ome Calli does these flavors justice with their wide variety. This time, I got a two scoop of mango and chamoy, and we also ordered a couple of paletas as well (mangosteen and passionfruit). I thought all of these tasted so good. The sweet mango (with some real mango bits in it) with the spicy chamoy was a great mix of flavors, and the paletas themselves had very bright notes of mangosteen and passionfruit. The ice cream scoops are always a very generous size, and I am hard-pressed to find a spot that sells two scoops for how much they provide (I believe one "large" scoop at 50 licks was still more than the cost of the two gargantuan scoops they provided us here). I think this is a great place to get ice cream and paletas of many different flavors, and overall, for the price, you just can't beat it!

Yelp
Neighborhood win! Yay Beaverton! With a variety of unique flavors to choose from-- it's a slam dunk for me. Will be recommending it for people, kids, young and old to satiate the ice cream craving. I am definitely going to be a regular due to the wide variety of flavors. Hint - they also do churros! It appears that they have other prepared choices fitting for summertime. I was too enthralled with my corn scoop courtesy of Yelp to really give the spot a good survey. My bad. Thanks to the team. And what a win for Beaverton/PDX area!
google avatar

Clare Q.

Yelp
I cannot get enough of this place and their delicious paletas! Mango and chile, plain mango, passionfruit, guava, strawberry....they are all good. We had a nacho dinner and got an assortment pf paletas and ice creams for everyone to try. Huge hit with the kids and I had a delicious and perfect soursop cone that I refused to share. Mitts off kids!
google avatar

Celia L.

Yelp
The best ice cream in Beaverton, they have a lot of flavors and the employees are always really nice!

Stacey W.

Yelp
Cute atmosphere, super friendly staff, lots of flavors to choose from. Delicious!!!!

Freddy V.

Yelp
Hispanic owned local company made with variety of flavors involving different unique Hispanic traditional foods and flavors
google avatar

Mike R.

Yelp
We really love the selection here! My wife got a passion fruit paleta, my daughter got a scoop of cotton candy ice cream and I got the super chamoyada. The Chama Yatta is described in detail in my pictures. I love the flavor and it reminds me of my time spent in Mexico! On top of the quality and variety of treats here, the staff was very friendly and was very quick the day we were there!
google avatar

Ammara T.

Yelp
Cute store with tons of flavor options! I brought my husband and his friend along and we had a lot of fun. The guy at the front was friendly and welcoming and told us about the different flavor options. He also gave my husband more samples to try and he finally settled on the caramel flavor which is a bit stronger if you like that. I got the mango flavor which was subtle and sweet. We also got tempted to get the slushie with the popsicle and gotta admit it was a bit overwhelming for us since at first it was scour which the boys love but then it turned into a spicy tangy flavor and was just too much for us to finish. Wish they offered a smaller size option so we didnt have to waste half of it. Other than that cool spot to check out! They also had an Aztec mural in the back which was great for photos for the insta!
google avatar

Gabi K.

Yelp
Looking for a sweet cold treat? This is the place! They have a variety of ice creams, paletas and chamoyada. I got the Nutella ice cream and it was delicious. I like that the ice cream was creamy and not too froze like some ice creams can be. Really enjoyed it. Great prices and the gentleman that helped us order was friendly and very welcoming. Support your local businesses and come check this place out!

Ave R.

Yelp
Horchata ice cream is DELICIOUS ! Try if you will not regret it! I love the different flavors they have here they are all fun! Like the queso cotija ice cream. We didn't dare try but if you're a cheese lover I suggest you do. I had the horchata shake it was so good! First time trying horchata ice cream I am not disappointed!! Probably my new favorite. The Churros were bland, at first I thought they weren't cooked all the way because they felt gooey but then realized they had some sort of filling which we didn't know. 4 Stars because the service sucks the counter ladies are not friendly at all they both looked like they wanted to be anywhere but there.
google avatar

Tiffany T.

Yelp
My kids have been asking to get Paletas for months because we read a picture book called Paletero Man by Lucky Diaz. We went today and they have an amazing selection. The kids got chocolate and bubble gum flavors. They were ecstatic and enjoyed them very much. I had pecan or Nuez. I picked up a lime one for my spouse. They have icecream, popsicles, chocolate dipped bananas and more. The mural and art are fabulous. And the benches right outside are a good place to sit and eat sweet treats. The women behind the counter are very gracious and kind with us when ordering. Right around the corner from the Rose Biggi food cartel. Excellent desserts!
google avatar

Vina N.

Yelp
Came in with my family and were greeted by friendly and patient employees. All of the ice cream we had was delicious and we can't wait to go back. Price is great and you support a small family business!

Mary T.

Yelp
I love this place, their ice creams are great and they aren't too expensive. However, I am quite disappointed with my last visit. I decided to get 6 of their paletas and we got a free one, which was not the issue. The issue was that the packaging us unlabeled so me and my family were not able to tell which one was which- also, they forgot one (isn't a huge deal just made things more difficult). My family and I have continuously grabbed the wrong one because they looked similar. Because of this I grabbed rice pudding rather than coconut and just didn't realize cause I just assumed it wasn't a strong coconut flavor, and they had forgotten the coconut. Both me and the family member who has wanted the rice pudding we very disappointed. So please, if you could add labels to the takeout orders of paletas that would be great.

Yelp
The Best pumpkin spice ice cream through my lens! Amazing chocolate covered bananas! Nutella popsicle is delightful! Visiting Beaverton? It's a MUST try!
google avatar

Matilda N.

Yelp
Variety of ice cream and popsicle flavors. My favorite has always been the corn and cotija cheese.
google avatar

Andie B.

Yelp
Finally stopped by Ome Calli for the first time after always driving by and wow it was wonderful! I got the super chamoyada with a mango paleta and my mum got the guava sorbet, which I might've definitely eaten half of! Everything was so wonderful, tasty and fresh! Will definitely be back to try all the different flavours of ice cream and paletas! And definitely more chamoyadas!
google avatar

Arnab K.

Yelp
The place has an amazing collection of very unique flavors. There were a bunch of fruity flavors that were unconventional. Some of them were even tropical fruits. To summarize, a must visit place.
google avatar

Carol T.

Yelp
My husband and I took some time out of our day for an "ice cream" break. This was a 1st visit for us. My husband had 2 scoops - cafe coffee and coco coconut. The coconut was the best, very good coconut flavor! The coffee - was so, so. I had strawberries and cream - delicious, very creamy and good strawberry flavor. The scoops were generous. Lots of varieties of ice cream and most are Gluten Free! The shop has a Latino ambiance. Many choices one would see in Mexico. The place appears very clean and cared for, the staff friendly and knowledgeable. Out side there are 3 colorful benches. After purchasing our ice cream We sat out side since the afternoon temperature was pleasant. The benches are far enough back from TV Highway with some grass to take the edge off the traffic. I would recommend entering from the west bound direction off TV Highway, making a right turn into parking lot. Parking is along the side of the building, easy access. We will be back to try some different flavors.
google avatar

Carmela G.

Yelp
I got the mango ice cream, it was the worst ice cream I have ever tasted, very dry, and I crumbles wit every bite so it is all over my clothes (I was eating in my car because it was very hot that day!) despite eating very slowly and gently.
google avatar

Mariko K.

Yelp
The ice cream is icey, but has decent flavor. I tried eggnog, which wasn't good, but the marshmallow was yummy. I was surprised that it was full of mini marshmallows and they were soft--I'm not sure what kind of magic they used to make that happen! Service was good and the store was clean. As an ice cream snob, iciness is a deal breaker for me so I won't be back. I will say it's a very good value. Once scoop is huge and it comes with a free sugar or cake cone.

Loisaida S.

Yelp
Awesome every time! I would recommend the ice cream over the popsicles. It's great.
google avatar

Monica D.

Yelp
Always a treat. I love this place and I don't know why people stand in lines at other places when the ice cream is 100000x better here. I highly suggest the Cotija Cheese, (corn) maiz, or coconut however they have many flavors.
google avatar

Lonnie L.

Yelp
If you're looking for the rudest customer service ever and you want your little daughter to get yelled that and fear not going to there anymore these people are the people were rude and I will yell at your daughter
google avatar

Anna O.

Yelp
Visited Ome Calli and tried my first chamoyada, it was delicious! My daughters had ice cream and a paleta. The staff was very nice and helpful, I truly enjoyed the experience! I will definitely be returning. The only downside was the lack of seating.
google avatar

Kenya N.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream and a large variety of flavors. I love stopping by here with friends and family during the summer. I have nothing bad to say about this business, strongly recommend!
google avatar

CT T.

Yelp
This is a hidden spot!! They said they've been around for 5 years!! We just discovered it today! They make their own ice creams! I'm talking bout so many flavors and choices to choose from! And they have some other desserts! Mango and guava ice cream with chamoy and raisin was
google avatar

Stephanie M.

Yelp
I came simply for the paleta de Coco and I am so glad I did! Coconut popsicles are my absolute favorite & the ones they sell at the stores are never good so it's rare that I find a good one. This little store has so much goodness to offer their coconut paleta being one of them!
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
I wish I lived closer to this place! They have a ton of interesting ice cream flavors. I had a sample of the corn one and it was good! I'd definitely get ice cream had the chamoyadas not caught my eye. I got the super chamoyada and it was unforgettable! The girl who helped me was super sweet and helped me decide on which slush I wanted and which paleta I wanted. I chose the mango con chile paleta and it was perfect because I'm used to having a mango base in my chamoyada and none of the slush options were mango so the mango paleta got that mango element scratched off. I'd love to go back and try more stuff!
google avatar

Berenice G.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream, tastes like home country. Authentic and great variety of ice cream and popsicles. Would be great to order ahead if time for a kids soccer game or oatty even just take your cooler/chest with ice.
