"Tucked away in a cul-de-sac, this sushi bar is invariably packed to the seams (booking highly recommended). The chef at the helm, sushi champion of France, trained in several of chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s establishments, no less. Impeccably cooked rice, moist tender chicken, melt-in-the-mouth salmon, juicy red tuna, firm seabass, spicy miso sauce dusted with fresh garden herbs, last-minute grated wasabi and a knockout selection of sakés (the sommelier and partner knows his business). The omakase menu features a festival of flavours for a fine dining experience that can be adapted to suit the appetites and wallets of everyone." - Michelin Inspector

I cannot recommend this place enough for lovers of real sushi, a very pleasant surprise in Nice. This chef is incredibly skilled and I look forward to going back!! Without getting too wordy, the fish was cooked perfectly, the flavors were composed well, and even the sourcing was impeccable because the Nigiri was some of the best I’ve ever had in the world. (Please ignore the fact my pictures are a little bad, I did not put as much effort into taking them as I should have since I did not anticipate making a review… but the food was so amazing I had to support this spot)

We walked in with no reservation as a group of four and were able to get seats at the bar, which worked out great. The food was absolutely worth it — so good, especially since I had been craving sushi. The wagyu dumplings were stellar, and the crispy rice was unlike any I’ve had before. Overall, a delicious experience and definitely worth visiting.

Sushi was among my top 5 ever, including ones in Japan. We were a family of four and picky sushi eaters. Everyone really likes the sushi and rated it high in their experience. We’re from the US and I understand sushi in US is prepared differently than say in Japan. Either way, the experience was great and we recommend Onakaya restaurant. Location is great. Suggest making reservations in advance during busy tourist season.

Was looking forward to some great sushi after a week of traveling in Nice eating lots of rich French food, unfortunately our experience was disappointing. We opted for the chef omakasi and it was just okay. The salmon sashimi was fresh but the sauce was too sweet. The miso black cod and eggplant were too sweet, the miso didn’t come through at all and the black cod was over cooked. The beef tataki was very chewy. All the chef choosing was very basis, nothing special. When the bill came, we were overcharged by €30+. They apologized and said that this never happened before however I just read another reviewer saying he may have been overcharged?

Mediocre and inauthentic food. The set menu is quantity over quality and the quality of the fish is masked by strong sauces. What’s worse is that I informed the waiter at the start that I had an avocado allergy and we were served an avocado dish without being told there was avocado in it. It is very worrying that they do not take intolerances & allergies seriously

Might have been overcharged for steak here idk by accident or if it was because I’m American but the good and drinks were good - the salmon dish pictured was pretty delicious and would recommend

I’ve dined here twice. The bento lunch sushi is delicious and worth trying—you get to enjoy tempura, nigiri, maki, and sashimi all in one meal. The seasoning of the sushi rice in the nigiri was slightly stronger on my first visit compared to the second. The desserts are a bit pricey, and the quality of the tea was disappointing. After steeping for a short while, the whole pot became too bitter to drink.
