Onaka

"Tucked away in a cul-de-sac, this sushi bar is invariably packed to the seams (booking highly recommended). The chef at the helm, sushi champion of France, trained in several of chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s establishments, no less. Impeccably cooked rice, moist tender chicken, melt-in-the-mouth salmon, juicy red tuna, firm seabass, spicy miso sauce dusted with fresh garden herbs, last-minute grated wasabi and a knockout selection of sakés (the sommelier and partner knows his business). The omakase menu features a festival of flavours for a fine dining experience that can be adapted to suit the appetites and wallets of everyone." - Michelin Inspector

A truly exceptional gastronomic experience! The taco starter and the dragon roll were my favorites. The service was outstanding—they even accommodated us after we arrived a little bit late, also served us when the kitchen had closed. Definitely a must-visit if you're in Nice

We were at this sushi restaurant yesterday evening with our kids and really enjoyed it. The sushi was super tasty and very fresh, with a special and elegant flavor. The service was friendly and fast. We totally recommend this place! Even our kids, who had never tried sushi before, liked it a lot.

I found this place by chance. What a pleasant surprise. The dishes are delicious and have a slight twist from what you would expect. They taste amazing. It's a must-visit if you like Japanese food and are in Nice.

We walked in with no reservation as a group of four and were able to get seats at the bar, which worked out great. The food was absolutely worth it — so good, especially since I had been craving sushi. The wagyu dumplings were stellar, and the crispy rice was unlike any I’ve had before. Overall, a delicious experience and definitely worth visiting.

I cannot recommend this place enough for lovers of real sushi, a very pleasant surprise in Nice. This chef is incredibly skilled and I look forward to going back!! Without getting too wordy, the fish was cooked perfectly, the flavors were composed well, and even the sourcing was impeccable because the Nigiri was some of the best I’ve ever had in the world. (Please ignore the fact my pictures are a little bad, I did not put as much effort into taking them as I should have since I did not anticipate making a review… but the food was so amazing I had to support this spot)

I have been living in Asia and travel a few times to Japan and have been to various up scales Japanese restaurants. Even though psychologically I always think no any Japanese restaurants can beat the one in Japan but this one is different, kind of fusion that can give the sushi sashimi or any other dishes a breakthrough from Japanese traditional one. For me it is even better. I would go again but the bank account said I should hold on to once in a while. Staff are nice and well explained each dish.

The whole dining experience was amazing. Every dish we tried was so good and unforgettable. We had quite a few dishes. We had the Wagyu gyozas, the salmon Tataki, a couple of the rolls, the yellowtail crispy rice, the miso black cod and two mocktails. Everything was so delicious, but if I were to go again I would not get the wagyu gyozas, and just get chicken instead since the gyozas did not have flavour. If you can get a reservation here, I strongly recommend it and you won’t regret it!!

Sushi was among my top 5 ever, including ones in Japan. We were a family of four and picky sushi eaters. Everyone really likes the sushi and rated it high in their experience. We’re from the US and I understand sushi in US is prepared differently than say in Japan. Either way, the experience was great and we recommend Onakaya restaurant. Location is great. Suggest making reservations in advance during busy tourist season.
