Oncheon - Review - Koreatown - New York - The Infatuation

"Oncheon is a hot spring-themed Korean restaurant, which means it has large TV screens in each booth playing snowy spa scenes, and a water feature covered in fake snow in the front window. It doesn’t fully transport you out of Koreatown, but still—the room is certainly relaxing, and the beautifully presented Korean-style shabu-shabu is rich and seemingly never-ending. Broth options include signature doenjang and spicy, and they arrive alongside banchan, vegetables, thinly sliced meat, and freshly made kalguksu noodles, all arranged in stacked wooden boxes. Ask for a booth—they're high enough that they obscure the street and all your fellow diners, so that even just for a second, you'll feel like you’re at the snow-covered noodle spa. Food Rundown Bulgogi Gujeolpan If you get a starter, make it this one. This traditional Korean dish has jeon in the center surrounded by matchsticks of vegetables, egg, and bulgogi. Pile a chewy pancake with all the toppings and then dip it in the hot mustard provided. Spicy Curry Shabu-Shabu This thick, dark brown curry is laced with warming spices like cardamom and cinnamon, with just a hint of sweetness, and only a touch of spiciness. You’ll probably want to eat it plain, but don’t ignore your thinly sliced beef, and all of those dusted-in-flour kalguksu noodles. Beef Steak Chanhap Meal Box This steak over rice is arranged so beautifully it looks like a jewel box. Except instead of precious stones, there’s perfectly pink steak, a soft-boiled egg, raw onion, and more. Still, even though we like this dish, you should always prioritize the shabu-shabu." - Willa Moore

Absolutely wonderful experience! Food is so delicious and the amount that you get is worth the price and more. So filling and not as expensive as would seem for the quality that is plated. Our waitress was so sweet and helped us with everything. Highly recommend for people looking into Korean Hot Pot places!!

I recently had the pleasure of returning to Oncheon NYC after a few months with 3 others, and I have to say there were a lot of improvements from the last time I was here. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great dining experience. The menu had a few new exciting changes, and I couldn’t resist trying a few of them. We all got the Soy Sauce Sukiyaki and it was absolutely delicious, the staff had given us instructions on how it should be prepared since it was our first time getting this dish. It is clear that the they continue to deliver high-quality dishes with fresh ingredients and I must say their Yuja Makgeoli was great! What really stood out this time was the consistency in service and quality. It’s rare to find a place that delivers the same exceptional experience over time. Whether it’s the carefully crafted cocktails, the delightful ambiance, or the attentive service, everything was spot on. Thank you and we’ll be back again soon.

Oncheon NYC is a Shabu/Hotpot restaurant themed after a Hot Springs Shabu experience, with wonderful theming on the inside to immerse you in the experience. The waitstaff is amazing, and very friendly and attentive to the needs. We came here for our anniversary, and they provided us with exemplary service and also provided us with a free dessert on the house. The food was good, though not what we were expecting. The prices are reasonable for the portion, and for 2 people, we ordered actually too much. We were expecting to only get one vegetable platter, but each got one for ourselves which also gave us a ton of food we couldn't finish. The hotpot itself was good, as we got the Doenjang broth which went well with the dishes, but didn't have a strong flavor. The vegetables were all good, and the wagyu beef was thin and tasty and melted in our mouths. The Fish cake platter wasn't what we were expecting, as we were expecting Korean fishcakes and got them, but also got a range of other fishcakes we didn't really enjoy. We had a great time here, though maybe will consider doing one of the non hotpot options instead as we weren't entirely amazed by the hotpot.

Oncheon NYC is where you can experience savoring slow cooked Korean hot pot through Korea’s traditional hot spring culture. Step away from the busy streets of Koreatown and listen to the refreshing sound of hot spring water while you enjoy an authentic meal. Each bite from appetizers to hot pot to chanhaps shows how relaxing and satisfying the flavors are. Choose from four different broths and indulge in delicately arranged dishes inside beautiful square chanhaps that completely warms your tummy. Enjoy different kinds of protein and vegetables and pair it with their amazing cocktails for the best experience. Ask their friendly staffs for recommendations but there is absolutely no wrong choice. Stop by and feast on authentic Korean hot spring hot pot in the heart of NYC!

We were the only guests during off peak hours and we decided to try this spot since it is relatively new. Great service and extra attention since we were the only ones there lol. If you like korean food and you like hot pot as well, think of it as a korean fusion hot pot place! Their kimchi is soo good and I really like their Makgeoli honey drink! It seems like a great place to come in the evening for 2-4 people!

Friend recommended that we come here to try this out. I honestly don’t think it’s that great, food wise it’s like the traditional shabu shabu, with better presentation and higher price. The decors indoor are cheap material, not real plants. Food portion is small and side veggies are just regular vegetables one would get from any restaurant but sure they curved it and make it pretty for you. If you want bang for your buck, then place is not for you. If you want to have a cute date, sure, the ambiance can make it look and feel romantic.

Ordered a steak rice set from their brunch menu and it was very tasty! The steak was cooked amazingly and there were a lot of other flavors such as seaweed, kimchi, and onions to go along with it. Service staff was friendly and accommodating.

Our second experience at Oncheon was truly wonderful, thanks to the exceptional efforts of the manager, Brian. From the beginning, Brian, communicated with us thoughtfully and ensured that we received attentive and courteous service throughout our meal, answering all our questions. It was clear that Oncheon had taken steps to enhance the dining experience. The updated menus, which clearly displayed pricing, added transparency so that there was no confusion. Additionally, they also gave us a table extender, which allowed ample space for all our dishes, making the overall experience much more comfortable. The food was exceptional on both visits. The wagyu was incredibly fresh, and the uni on the beef tartare was the best we’ve ever had. The banchan offerings were all memorable, each dish being unique and showcasing a creative approach to traditional flavors. We also tried the yuja makgeolli and yuja ade, both of which were refreshing and complemented the meal perfectly. We left with a much more positive impression of the restaurant, and we look forward to returning in the future.
