Seattle Company Atomo, Which Makes Coffee in a Lab, Plans ‘Roastery’ Near Starbucks HQ - Eater Seattle

"Atomo, a Seattle-based startup, is opening a 12,000 square-foot facility to brew beanless coffee using leftover plant materials. The new venue aims to offer a sustainable alternative to traditional coffee production, which contributes to deforestation. Atomo's brews have been described as smoother and less bitter than Starbucks' in blind taste tests." - Gabe Guarente

Google
Cute little coffee shop. It uses Fresh Flours coffee and pastries. The pastries and coffee were delicious. I tried their Hojicha latte and it was too grassy/earthy for me. Ended up throwing it out and getting a chai which was much better. This place has a great vibe.

Google
Beautiful espresso. Fresh pastries. Great people. A lot of people on laptops. Children friendly, ADA accessible. Bathroom is amazing. Does not accept cash. 😬

Google
Very cute coffee shop with delicious pastries and breakfast tacos! I'm surprised I hadn't heard of this place before considering how much I enjoyed it. Wifi is good enough for work too. Definitely recommend coming here for anyone in the area!

Google
Ordered some beans for brewing espresso at home and we're very happy we did. Flavor profiles are on point and it's delicious. Love their mission as well.

Google
If you’re looking for a good coffee, like a Italian one, this is the place. Moreover, the bread and croissants are amazing. The location is not the best in town, but it’s worth going there.

Summer S

Google
Loved my London fog, matcha muffin, and double chocolate cookie! Everything was high quality and impressive. Great vibes and cozy place! Looking forward to coming back

Google
A nice refuge after a mini urban hike in the rain. People watching people lining up for donuts across the street. The outdoor seating is really cozy and relaxing. You can hear your thoughts, the rain, the cars and nearby conversations. Smells of coffee wafts in the cool air, delicate pitter patter of the rain, nice bright accents of yellow tables to brighten up the rainy mood of the day. Friendly staff and a well stocked clean bathroom for all your needs including a baby changing table and tampons. Will definitely come back again for a relaxed and focused work flow.

Google
I ordered an iced caramel latte with an extra shot, and the pecan current. I was a bit disappointed with the caramel latte in terms of the coffee. There was four shots total but it tasted like caramel milk to me. Wish there was a balance of coffee and caramel. Highly recommend the pecan current though! I would return again for their delicious pastries.

Yelp
I am not a coffee drinker but my cousin is and she was visiting from out of town and she tried tons of coffee in the Seattle area and Onda was one of her top favorites. She actually first tried Onda coffee when we were at Fresh Flours in Beacon Hill which I didn't realize was a sister business of theirs (which is super cool cuz i love Fresh Flours). She loved the drip coffee so much that I took her to Onda'a cafe on a different day. The cafe is super cute and cozy and it was busy for a Friday morning! My cousin ordered a drip coffee (it was a different roast than the one she had at Fresh Flours) and she said it was really good too. She ended up buying two bags of coffee beans to take home with her and they ground the beans in one of the bags for her. The barista was really nice and helpful and the cafe sells Fresh Flours pastries which is really good to know cuz Onda is closer to me than any of the FF locations!

Yelp
Decent Coffee - Cozy - Basic menu It's a to the point kind of coffee shop. Nothing too fancy, basic coffee menu, small on the inside, and has a cozy PNW feel. Right next to one of the best bakeries called the flour box. We came to do some work and this isn't the best spot for office style work, the music was a little loud and space was limited but we worked there for an hour and could get some stuff done.

Yelp
Note that they don't take cash, only card. Nice ambiance, fairly small shop but good amount of seating. Seats are all metal so super cold though. Staff were friendly. Coffee is solid, no pour over but their drip is solid! They dial in their drip coffee and use a rotating selection of specialty coffees. Tried a ham and cheese croissant, not bad. Super flaky outside, but the inside was not fully warmed up :/

Yelp
I was waiting in line for the Flour Box and my husband ran here to grab a quick drink to keep us warm. He ordered us a black coffee that we thought was super enjoyable. He was able to get in and out pretty quickly and he said that the service was friendly. Overall, I'd say this is a great place to get your caffeine fix.

Yelp
Really nice interior, but a bit small. I stopped by Onda a couple Saturday mornings ago to grab some coffee before heading over to Seward Park. I got the cold brew (4.50, I think) here which was a medium roast. I didn't love the tasting notes and I thought it was average at best. Overall, the baristas were very nice and I would like to try an espresso based drink and get a pastry if I'm ever back here.

Yelp
Good solid coffee!! I had the pecan something croissant with my Italiano and it was a perfect combo Staff was super nice n friendly and they even serve okazu pan (from umami kushi) - sadly they were out today - n tacos!! Baked stuff from Fresh Flours (same owner)
google avatar

Yelp
The coffee shop is good, but not for dining in due to its small size and high crowd. I ordered a latte with a warm plain croissant. The coffee had a good flavor and texture, and it perfectly complemented the croissant. The plan croissant is something I would recommend. It was warm and crispy. Service was okay.

Yelp
Phenomenal blueberry muffin. Exceptional. No notes. Beautifully light and soft, buttery but not overwhelming in the slightest, and perfectly moist. The blueberries are scattered in just the right amount and add gorgeous bursts of berry flavor. And the crumble on top was perfect for added texture and was pleasantly sugary. An absolutely wonderful start to my morning--it set me up for a day of success and joy. The coffee was good, too. I would add a photo, but I was too focused on enjoying my act of consumption. It was an enjoyment, indeed.

Yelp
Terrible customer by the first two baristas. Took seven min for them acknowledge me. I don't think I'll be back here again and I'd say go elsewhere in S Seattle for coffee.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! A new favorite roaster and coffee house in Seattle. Only tough part for me is location. Coffee is great. They have a good selection they source directly from small farmers. I haven't tasted all the blends yet, so I can't speak to them. But the single origins have something for everyone and every taste. Location itself is comfortable and inviting. I do with they had more on offer in the cafe, but they do rotate offerings. The baked goods are also top notch. Staff is friendly and helpful. The perfect Seattle coffee house, with a great roaster out back to boot.

Yelp
Love this coffee place. Service staff is so friendly and just amazing! They are always chatting and sharing some recommendations about the area with you. Excellent coffee and lovely space to work or just hang out. Love the big windows for lots of great natural light.

Yelp
I smelled their coffee roasting yesterday and knew I wanted to stop in. I bought some espresso beans and got a free coffee with bean purchase. I got an iced coffee and a few pastries (baked by Fresh Flours Bakery) and they were all good. They have indoor seating and a nice outdoor sidewalk patio. They are right next to the Flour Box donut shop. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Yelp
I don't come here often but customer service has not been serviceable the last couple of times. I didn't order my latter with an extra shot of bad energy.
google avatar

Parth S.

Yelp
They have really good coffee, and it's a great drink to have while waiting for flour box donuts as it's right across the street. They make them really quickly and they have seasonal flavors, such as butterscotch latte.
google avatar

Feridoon M.

Yelp
Sadly, the Yelp info is incorrect; only Service Dogs are allowed. No pets. I drove here specifically because I thought they were dog friendly. Not their fault, but a heads up to other folks.
google avatar

Yelp
Incredible coffee, phenomenal service! By far the best coffee and cafe I've been to in Seattle! The baristas are all super helpful and not pretentious (like other Seattle shops I've been too). They give $1 back directly to the farmer for every pound of coffee roasted and even had a couple coffee farmers in town for a meet and greet (so cool)! They also have a coffee club which is super affordable and comes with a really fun diner mug!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here to get coffee while my wife waited in line at The Flour Box. Minimal line on a late Thursday morning. Staff was very friendly. We tried the house latte and eggnog latte. Both were good and very smooth. The eggnog latte was too sweet (they use Smith Brothers). Prices were a little higher than some other places we've been too, but not unreasonable. Some seating inside.

Yelp
Cute little coffee house. The hubby and I had breakfast up in this area while visiting Seattle and decided to walk off the calories to the coffee shop. Onda is very much a community coffee roaster exuding lots of love which you feel the second you walk through the doors. I had a mocha while the hubby had a vanilla latte. Both were made very well and we enjoyed them while outside in their parkette seating area. We met a local and chatted with her for a solid 20 minutes before taking the walk back to the Link.
google avatar

Urba M.

Yelp
Great little spot for your caffeine fix. We got the mocha and their seasonal caramel apple oat milk latte. My husband really enjoyed his mocha. I wasn't a huge fan of the apple flavor in mine, but the espresso and the oat milk were creamy and delicious! Friendly staff, relaxed ambience and well-lit space. They had some beautiful local art hung up for sale as well. We'll be back soon for more. P.S - they have baked goods if you're peckish, and they also have Flour Box donuts across the street
google avatar

Emily P.

Yelp
My favorite baristas! Very knowledgeable and helpful, even when there are long waits. Excellent espresso and take-home beans. Can't get my beans for home brewing anywhere else anymore.
google avatar

Mariya B.

Yelp
I've never been disappointed in a cup of coffee here. The baristas are super knowledgeable and make a great cup of coffee every time (in particular, I think Sam has a fan club and he usually works the morning ish shift). The cafe has a great ambiance. I like to go there to read, respond to emails, or do really simple work. I l have a harder time doing serious work bc I tend to get distracted people watching. I have friends that do serious work from here though and they love it. Maybe bring noise cancelling headphones if you've got some time sensitive work to complete. I like some places for the coffee and some for the ambiance, but I like Onda for both. It's a great spot all around.
google avatar

Trisha F.

Yelp
They carry Sunrise Tacos, have a good range of pastries available, including really delicious looking pan (lentil, jerk chicken, and beef curry). The spot is warm and cozy, with lots of homey looking nooks. Parking isn't great around here, but I found something close to the cross fit spot nearby. Baristas are friendly, and the tea is great. I'm bummed they don't carry more alternative milk--just oat and hemp, which arguably are the least popular... Maybe they're the most sustainable?
google avatar

Jason R.

Yelp
A lot of places that are snobby about their coffee are also snobby about people. Not so here! Onda cares VERY MUCH about both its coffee and its customers. The baristas are rich in craft and in welcome.
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
stopped by and got a double shot and the beans they use for their espresso is so good! a very hearty and rich blend that is strong in flavor. the staff were so nice when i came in as i desperately needed a pick me up and helped me decide on what was the most caffeinated. would definitely come again to try their other drinks as well :) the inside would be so nice to catch up on work while the outside would be nice to talk with friends when it's nice out
google avatar

Yelp
This cafe is a hidden gem! Their coffee is rich and aromatic, and the cozy atmosphere makes it a perfect spot to relax. Service is amazing. Don't miss their delicious pastries too.

M C.

Yelp
Picked up a plain ole drip coffee and they had an assortment of pastries including a peach danish that continued to eye me. Was told it's baked fresh from scratch daily. The gentleman there recommended two pastries. I picked a layered croissant pastry with grained sugar dusted all over. It was on par! The coffee was incredible. I was handed some nostalgia a smith brothers carton (local dairy farm) when asked for cream. Friendly and warm baristas/baristos. This has inside and a nice little cozy box seating outside. If you can't stand in line, told that donuts were sold out, or can't get admission to the flour box period lol this is a hidden gem right beside it... It did not disappoint!
google avatar

Jeremy S.

Yelp
Pros -close to flour box -friendly employees -Swiss onion pastry is delicious -free drip coffee with check in -bathroom Cons -none
google avatar

Erika F.

Yelp
Thank you for my hemp milk latte! Probably the best I've ever had, in love with this place already
google avatar

Yelp
Went because of a friends suggestion and it was nice. Cute adjustment to these crazy times! Super nice and friendly staff! Convenient grab and go service.
google avatar

Yelp
Lovely little coffee shop! Stopped by for a Maple Latte and "The Jack" vegetarian taco. Delicious! Came with a mini verde and salsa sauce and it was made with corn tortillas - my favorite. I'll definitely keep this spot in the rotations and continue to support local.

Jay C.

Yelp
This is a really nice, small independent coffee shop. They make really nice espresso drinks, the real thing. Delicious. Nice servers. And they always have some nice pastries available. A chill vibe. This place is great.
google avatar

WorldTraveler T.

Yelp
The BEST local coffeehouse south of Seattle. I always order REAL maple latte in which I taught the baristas to use and they love it.

Drew D.

Yelp
Super cute and quite place on the corner! The americano was good and my boyfriend said the rhubarb was a 7/10. The baristas were friendly and seemed to know a lot of the people coming in. Good place to sit and wait for donuts next door!
google avatar

Ann Marie B.

Yelp
Our first time trying this cafe! And it did not disappoint! They have yummy coffee and pastries! And great service too! They also have a cute outdoor patio! I will be going here after every school drop off
google avatar

Michelle H.

Yelp
Cute and cozy cafe! The barista and cashier were really friendly and helpful. I ordered a cup of drip coffee brewed with beans from Costa Rica. I enjoyed the subtle acidic flavor with hints of mariposa plum and nut.
google avatar

Nick J.

Yelp
Love this little hipster spot. Ham bread thing was bomb. And barista was on point. Bomb mocha and macchiato.
google avatar

Diana X.

Yelp
I love the concept of using blockchain to track the origins of your coffee, and paying their suppliers above and beyond. Although I wish there was a bit more detail after navigating to the origin page, I think this is a great start and am all in for supporting such initiatives. The coffee is great, and the employees are super friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Coop S.

Yelp
I love this place. Excellent coffee. A business model and values I like participating in as a consumer. Perfect walking distance from my house. Kind and coffee-enthusiastic people. Always a friendly hello and treat (after checking for consent) for my dog. And did I mention great coffee!? And okazu pan (yummmm), other baked goods, and tacos. Plus check out this beautiful hemp milk latte they made me today. It inspired me to finally write this review.
google avatar

Allycen Q.

Yelp
A great little coffee place where the staff has consistently made me feel warm and welcome. Several vegan options for food and a solid cappuccino.

Yelp
PSA: Seattleites, Onda Origins has made it to Hillman City! Some background info: This is a Seattle-based coffee company that works and shares their revenues directly with their farmers. With their process of how coffee is made, it also benefits the community AND the environment. I mean, how great is that?! Walking in, the decor has a lovely modern touch to it with a cozy atmosphere. The place is pretty small so tables are limited. It was only their soft opening when I went so they didn't have a full menu up yet besides their specials, but you could still order what you usually like. I ordered a vanilla latte and it was perfect! It was creamy and the coffee flavor was nicely subtle. The staff is fantastic! So welcoming here. Street parking only, but should be fairly easy to find a spot. With an awesome purpose like that, come show them love during their grand opening! I'll definitely be back to try their Salted Caramel Latte.

Alison G.

Yelp
Best coffee in Seattle - highly recommend their espresso, served with soda water... the best Also, they have great beans to use at home, are dog friendly with a cozy but modern vibe.

Tyson M.

Yelp
Have been going here. Took a close friend from out of town because the coffee is good (Elite Yelper who has said he will not post a review). However, they argued with him about the size of drink, and put the wrong milk in, and argued about that, before slamming the drink into the trash. Hard to tell if Onda is racist or folks are just rude today... still got a tip, but we won't be going back to find out. I'll add that after all this, my friend thanked them, to which they did not respond.

Tina D.

Yelp
I'm from out of town and was waiting in the insane line for the flour box donut and wanted to hop over for some coffee. Amazing pastries. AMAZZINGGG I love their sausage pithiviers??? It's like a savory pie and it's so buttery and flakey. The ham and cheese croissant was so good as well. I wish I bought them all. really nice and sweet staff. Store is on a cozy corner. They do not accept cash. Give this place try!

Sam K.

Yelp
The coffee is decent. The bagels are horrible. They are very chewy and hard to eat. The staff was very nice 5* for the staff, 2* for the coffee and -1* for the bagel.
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
Just moved into the neighborhood and I gotta say, what an inventive way to maintain operations during this rough COVID-19 time. Always greeted with a smile and kind service, walk right up to the window (while maintaining 6 feet of distance of course) and order a yummy latte. Having a place within walking distance to get a latte during this difficult time is just amazing. I also ordered a okazu pan to go, placed in in the oven and it was delicious! I am excited to treat myself to trips over to Onda, sometimes it makes my day.
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
This is where I buy all my coffee beans. I Like it cuz it is right by my house and they let me bring my dog in. They sell a bunch of other random foods which I often buy. I really appreciate the fact that they sell milk. The coffee is outstanding. I am fully stuck up about coffee beans and for your money these beans are great. The baristas gives good advice about the beans and I often go with their recommendations. Sometimes they give me a free coffee when I buy beans. Make sure to tip big, these folks work hard and deserve it.
google avatar

Liz M.

Yelp
The staff here is friendly and aesthetic is nice but it would have been nice if the didn't forget my order and me have to check in on them 20 minutes later to get my latte.
google avatar

C C.

Yelp
I'm so glad this coffee spot is open again. It is under new ownership. The coffee is delicious and the new decor is gorgeous. Happy to be supporting this local business

Yelp
Stopped by here twice in my weekend visit to Seattle; first trip: cappuccino was really nice and you can tell the espresso they use is smooth and high quality. Second trip (since first trip went well and this was the only coffee shop right by my friend's place in South Seattle): iced mocha -- agh big mistake to order this! I originally wanted an iced salted caramel latte but they had no more salted caramel so I switched to an iced mocha.... my mocha wasn't filled to the top of the cup (3/4 filled with ice), but I didn't mind that. The issue was that the chocolate sauce wasn't dissolved with the espresso so I ended up with really chunky, almost powdery-textured brown milk My friend tried some and told me to just throw it out because of how bad it was, but I'd spent nearly $6 on it and didn't want to waste it. Ended up tossing out half because I couldn't stomach it. I'm giving four stars because my first trip was great! I'd recommend getting their hot drinks and not the mocha or iced ones, but that's just from my experience which I hope was a fluke! Love the sustainability concept.
